I know I can go to the the recovery and make a disk image backup to the SD card. But I want to run the stock recovery and anyways I would prefer to have more of a backup of just the app data... is there anything like Titanium Backup Pro that can make the backup onto the removable SD card?
Why not just use titanium backup then if that's what you want?

I want to backup to the removable SD card. When I try to set this as a backup destination in Titanium it says the destination is not writable. I've even gone into terminal and chmod 777 the directory but it still says the same.
If you search on here you will find how to make the sd card writeable.

I keep searching, page 38 right now of topics, but I haven't found info on how to make SD card writable to apps on rooted HTC One M8 from T-Mobile yet.

Sorry, I know this has been asked before but I couldn't find the post/thread about it.
I'm swapping to a 16gb card from the original 4gb, does the following look ok?
1) Nandroid backup
2) Copy Nandroid backup to PC
3) Put new card in
4) copy backup back to card
5) Nandroid restore
6) Profit?!?
Is there anything else I need to do/know?
Thanks

Phone ROM uses NAND location, not SD card. Therefore you can swap SD card for a new one, and you'll only lose your apps and app data (assuming you use A2SD+), but not the phone ROM itself.

I swapped to a 16gB card myself and this is what I did:
1) Made full nandroid backup, including SD-EXt using ROM manager
2) Copied ENTIRE contents of SD card to PC
3) Swapped in new 16Gb SD card
4) Booted phone, cried as everything was missing. Downloaded ROM manager
and used it to partition card.
5) Copied backed up contents from PC to new 16Gb Card.
6) NAndroided the backup
7) PROFIT!
Thanks chaps!
Quick question:
I want to give my phone a clean up and want to know if it's safe to do the following;
1. Get in to recovery and do a backup
2. download back up to pc (full SD card copy to PC)
3. Format SD card (here's where i need help, what do i need to put back on the SD card from my back up? i.e Titanium backup anything else?
4. flash new ROM CM7 nightly
Anything else? whats the best way to format the SD card?
Thanks
James

So thats how to erase the sd card what about the other things i listed?
Are they the correct procedure? What do i need on the SD card after the new ROM is on?
Thanks
J
I'd:
1. Backup apps you want the data for using Titanium Backup
2. Copy the contents of the SD card to your PC
3. Format SD card in PC using card reader
4. Copy back the data you want from original SD card backup to the clean SD card
5. Flash new ROM
6. Restore data from Titanium Backup

This is what i would like to get confirmation on, What do i need back on the sd card? Titanium Backup i assume, will the phone put what ever it needs back on if i format from the PC rather than the phone?
Thanks
J
I don't understand what you mean. If you copy everything from the SD card to your PC and then format the SD card you'll have a clean SD card. Then copy back the folders you need (Titanium Backup, photos, music, etc). The phone will then create the other folders it needs on first boot

I find that I am running out of room on my SD card in the Evo. I can't figure out what is filling it up so I want to reformat and start over. After a year of apps, ROMS, downloads and such it just seems to pile up. A bunch of it, I have no idea what it's for.
Assuming I do not install apps on SD, move all my Titanium backups, and nandroid files off the SD......what will happen? Everything that needs a file will just reinstall onto the card and I will be good to go?

Or, depending on your rom, go to Menu-Settings-SD & phone storage, select Unmount SD card and then select Format SD card. Also, you can go into recovery, especially if you're using amon RA v2.3, and then go to the wipe menu and then select WIPE SD CARD or while in recovery, go to the partition menu and select partition SD card. All of the available options are effective.
Thanks to both of you.
I'm running CM7 and RA recovery. I'll just send my "keeper" files to Dropbox and or Cloud Drive then format in RA.

OK, mine is working fine, try this...
From preferences, select Backup Folder Location, hit the back arrow twice until you get a listing of folders; "emulated", "sdcard0" and "sdcard1" (this is your external SD), select "sdcard1" then create new folder, create the new TitaniumBackup folder and you should be good.

Thanks again Ripper but I did that already, it did change my backups to sd card and shows that in titanium under backup directory however it does not show my sd card at the bottom of titanium. It should be system rom then internal& media and then ext sd card listed. ext sd card is not listed

The only time I saw this was when I could not write to the external SDCard, once I fixed that mine is showing correctly. If you can write to your external SD, you may have another issue.

TB is the same for my G Pad with a Samsung 64GB card. Sure you can specify the external card as a backup location, but presumably TB can't automatically identify it as the external card. I imagine TB needs an update for the G Pad memory architecture (path naming).

I do not move apps to the SD card. I have no need or reason to. My TB overview screen does not show the external card. Those things do not prevent me writing to the card - it is writeable. Maybe I do not understand the problem. For me there is no problem.
EDIT - OK, now I think I understand - TB does not see the external card so it cannot report on its status and cannot move apps to it. In all other respects the card works as one would expect. As I said in my first post, it seems like TB needs updating in order to discover the card as mounted by the G Pad. Either that or use some sort of folder mount app to mount the external card where TB can find it.

CORRECT.... thanks for answering my questions
I noticed this also yesterday when I was on Stock ROM with TiBU. I thought my device was bad but on CM11 TiBU works as normal with the external SD. LG ROM is wonky.

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling it was LG's ROM
I've been looking more deeply into this, but I don't have the skills to come up with a solution. However, I have a feeling the problem stems from Android itself and while some manufacturers may have implemented their own workarounds it seems that LG has not. Here is an article which outlines the basis of the problem (if I am right).

No help to offer other than to share my experience - I stuck my SD card in the G Pad to restore my app data and have no problems with it. TB restored them from the SD card. I've also been using TB repeatedly to back up and restore Injustice Gods Among Us on my SD card (30 times a day) with no problems.

The problem has nothing to do with backups and restores. It is the inability to move apps to the external SD card. TB gives no clues to the problem - no helpful messages - but other app2sd type apps complain about the way storage is arranged, saying that external storage is emulated. Clearly that is nonsense, because the external SD card it's a very real physical storage device, but I think that multi user support has screwed thing up, as per the article I linked to earlier.
FWIW I have managed to get TB to show the external card on the overview screen by creating a folder in /mnt and using foldermount to point the folder to the external card, but it does not survive a reboot and does not overcome the problem with moving apps to external storage. Maybe foldermount could be used to move large data folders to the external card for apps such as offline navigation or games, which should free up some space from the internal storage. As I have no need to do that (yet) I have not tried.
Hello,i did a cwm backup and i cant find it with root explorer or when i connect my phone to the computer. If i try to restore cwm recovery shows me backup in /sdcard/cwm/....
Why is that?
It's in internal sd card, not in external. Next time you need to choose backup to external sd card.

If you want to restore, just go to recovery and choose restore. Then you can choose one of your backups. If you dont have external sd card, then the backup is in internal memory. Your backup will have aprox. 1.5GB, I recommend you to buy an external sd card, because soon you will have space problems, specially if you perform more backups in CWM recovery.
