Hello,i did a cwm backup and i cant find it with root explorer or when i connect my phone to the computer. If i try to restore cwm recovery shows me backup in /sdcard/cwm/....
Why is that?
It's in internal sd card, not in external. Next time you need to choose backup to external sd card.

If you want to restore, just go to recovery and choose restore. Then you can choose one of your backups. If you dont have external sd card, then the backup is in internal memory. Your backup will have aprox. 1.5GB, I recommend you to buy an external sd card, because soon you will have space problems, specially if you perform more backups in CWM recovery.

I have looked over and over. And I see articles mentioning how to backup your device before Flashing ROMs. They even show how to do it. One of the articles said it could be done and how to do it. I did it and just like the other ways I tried the backup is stored on the Internal Storage.
I have all this room on my SD card available. My internal storage is almost completely filled with me not being able to store games or any apps for that matter on my SD card. Right now I have about 4GB left for my Internal Storage. After the backup I had 1GB left (I deleted the backup on the Internal Storage).
Is everyone else just storing the backup(s) on your Internal Storage? Your computer? SD Card?

Well you can backup to the internal sd card a d once you made a nandroid you can move the folder "clockworkmod" to your external sd card. And once you need to backup just move it back like a storage kind of thing. Tbh I'm not sure if you can make a backup to your external but I would always save it on your computer if anything happened to your phone

Thanks. I think I am going to go ahead and do it the way you said. Have a good one.
I do it this way but would prefer to backup directly to the sd card.
TWRP can do nandroids on the external sd.

I had to look up what TWRP was. LOL
Anyway, I looked it over, decided to try it and it worked! I now have my device backed up on the SD card instead of my internal memory.
I want to thank you and the other person for the helpful info. Each of you helped point me in the direction I wanted to go. Have a good one.
My cwm automatically backs up to external sd card. I'm pretty sure most versions do this now but can't verify. Also when I flash zips it will look in external unless I choose install zip from internal sd card

Doesnt work with the newest version of cwm. It worked with the 5.5.0.4 one though.

i was trying to do a nandroid back up to my external sd card, but it said
Code:
No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
why is it not detect my external sd card as a form of storage for the nandroid backup?
Not sure what that msg means but it is normal.. And not sure what it means because cwm doesn't backup your external sd card so not sure why it checks..
But it's a normal message and won't affect your backups or recoveries

sd-ext isn't your external sd card, but rather a partition created on an external sd card that can be used as internal memory. It was more popular when the phones had little internal memory and was a way to install apps on the external card. Our phone has a much larger space for /data, therefore it isn't needed.
Hope that helps.
This version of Clockworkmod will see your external SD card :

thank you all for your responses. I decided to switch to the CWM 5.8.45 Touch through adb install.
but it was still giving me the same response.
although, like morphous said, i guess it doesn't really matter.
thanks once again
I get the sd-ext not being relevant as I am not using that kind of partition...
...but how about the not backing up applications part? Is that normal as well? Was I misreading the line "skipping backup of applications on external storage." thinking it meant:
"not backing up applications TO external storage"
where it actually means:
"not backing up applications that have been installed to external storage" (because I have none installed there)
? Thanks for confirming.
Newbie question lol I have cwm and I want to create NANDROID backup to stock with root.... No idea how can somebody help me?

Reboot into CWM recovery. Once there, go to backup and restore. In there you should see an option to create a backup. Select it and allow your device time to back itself up.

You need to boot into recovery and then select the option to backup and CWM will make a Nandroid backup.
Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery by holding down the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons until your phone’s screen turns on. Use the Volume Up and Down buttons to navigate between the options and the Home button to select an option.
Suggestion
If you have an SD card mounted, I would recommend you choose the option to backup to external SD card. This saves loading up internal memory and when stored on external SD card, your Nandroid backup is protected from wipes/crashes/resets (except for purposefully wiping or formating SD card.)

Is it faster to back up on internal rather than external sdcard?
I think in CWM recovery it can only make a back up to the external SD card.

No.. I updated cwn and I have an option for external or internal. Plus, there are those that do not have an external sd
I want to format my internal Sd card so that flashing roms becomes less buggy. I use the newest CWM recovery. What steps do i need to take to format internal sd but still able to flash a zip from CWM recovery. Thanks everyone

Yes you can flash from internal sd card. Same procedure as if flashing from ext sd card.

Hi there. You would in cwm touch choose install zip from internal instead of install zip from external sd card option. Cwm touch is pretty straight forward. Follow the choices. Also make sure you do your nandroid backup before flashing anything. You would want to save that backup to your external sd card when you get it to save device memory. A few backups on internal storage will eat up ALL your internal storage space on the phone so sd card is important to have. If your using cwm you MUST in settings specify for backups to go to EXTERNAL sd card other wise by default they go to internal storage.word of warning this will quickly use all your device storage so make certain once you get your sd to fix the settings so it will go by default to EXTERNAL sd card rather than internal device storage. Hope this helps you out. Best wishes
