Reboot into CWM recovery. Once there, go to backup and restore. In there you should see an option to create a backup. Select it and allow your device time to back itself up.

You need to boot into recovery and then select the option to backup and CWM will make a Nandroid backup.
Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery by holding down the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons until your phone’s screen turns on. Use the Volume Up and Down buttons to navigate between the options and the Home button to select an option.
Suggestion
If you have an SD card mounted, I would recommend you choose the option to backup to external SD card. This saves loading up internal memory and when stored on external SD card, your Nandroid backup is protected from wipes/crashes/resets (except for purposefully wiping or formating SD card.)

Is it faster to back up on internal rather than external sdcard?
I think in CWM recovery it can only make a back up to the external SD card.

No.. I updated cwn and I have an option for external or internal. Plus, there are those that do not have an external sd

After flashing many (understatement) roms, my sd card has become cluttered and unorganized. Besides the obvious things that I should backup onto my comp (nandroid backups, titanium backups, personal files), are there any files or folders that "must" be on my sd card?
Or should I just backup everything and use the "erase sd card" option in the settings menu.

beware partitions
I just wanted to add that I partitioned my 8GB card for kingdomEVOlution and I had to re-partition it to get the space back to use Synergy RC2

Thanx in advance.

If you switch to a touchwiz rom you can go to settings>storage, then unmount your sd and format from the phone

you can do it with touchwiz. Settings>storage. First listing will be external (sd card) which will have the option to unmount and format. Second listed will be usb storage which is your internal memory and will also have it's own option to format. Just press unmount SD card under external then it will highlight the option to format

After trying to restore from a backup I saved to my external SD is having trouble restoring. Does the whole restore process except it just sits on the Samsung boot screen. Is the ext SD the issue?

When I try to do a NANDROID backup to my external sd card, I receive a message that says ''can't mount backup path.'' How do I fix this problem?
Running OUDhs CWM Touch ReqOvery v1.0.3.3
Make sure you have your latest version of the recovery and reboot and make sure your external sd card is functioning properly that's one common issue so that might be it if that is the case then format it and it should be fixed and to make sure you can copy the cwm recovery folder that was created in your internal memory to your external

Try formating your sd card as fat32 instead of exFAT.

Hello,i did a cwm backup and i cant find it with root explorer or when i connect my phone to the computer. If i try to restore cwm recovery shows me backup in /sdcard/cwm/....
Why is that?
It's in internal sd card, not in external. Next time you need to choose backup to external sd card.

If you want to restore, just go to recovery and choose restore. Then you can choose one of your backups. If you dont have external sd card, then the backup is in internal memory. Your backup will have aprox. 1.5GB, I recommend you to buy an external sd card, because soon you will have space problems, specially if you perform more backups in CWM recovery.
