LS980 Roam Only Help - Sprint LG G2

I would like to know how I may roam exclusively on my Sprint LG G2 LS980. I tried roam control, but does not seem to work on the LS980. I tried that app on two different phones and the screen remains black. The reason for the request is that I would hope to roam so much data that my provider will have to cancel my cantract/service without an ETF as Sprint can modify there contract and the customer must accepted it or cancel their service.
It would be great If I can modify my PRL to roam verizon's network. for data and voice.

[Q] G2 on AT&T?

Hey guys, new to Android and T-Mobile. I got a G2 last week, and I live and work in kind of a fringe area for T-Mo coverage. AT&T has good coverage out here, but the G2 doesn't roam over to ATT, I can't even register on their system when I select it in the mobile networks settings. My question is- how can I set the phone to roam onto their system when I lose T-Mo coverage? (I have heard that T-Mo can roam to ATT on EDGE). Thanks!
As far as I know, the only way to use AT&T on the G2 would be to SIM unlock the phone and use an AT&T SIM with an AT&T account. The TMO SIM won't just allow you to roam because they don't have a reciprocal billing agreement --- though I am no expert on this.
I believe, though I could be wrong, that the G2 does not have the ability for 3G (UMTS) data on AT&T. As you stated, if you could connect to the network, Edge should work.
One solution would be to switch to an AT&T SIM and use the Samsung Vibrant, which has the ability to connect to one of the two AT&T 3G bands. Of course, if you want to use AT&T regularly, getting an AT&T phone would be a better solution. So, for you, unless you want to switch to AT&T, wifi might be your only solution.
Ugh! That is exactly what I was hoping I wouldn't read lol. Well, I do really want to stick with tmo, just wish my phone would auto roam to att when I lose the tmo signal. Thanks for the reply!

I asked around at work a bit, and there are cases where you can roam on AT&T's network. These cases exist in areas where T-Mobile has not, cannot, or will not build out a network. In these cases, they contract with AT&T to provide their customers with network access. Some phones will show roaming, but I think the software, at this point, has made it a seamless experience, and you don't even know you are attached to AT&T's network. For billing, purposes, if you have a national plan, you are not roaming.
This doesn't help you, but I wanted to clarify my blanket statement above.
Check out the coverage map (Select NO for Are you a Rep, then go to the Data Coverage Map):
compass(DOT)t-mobile(DOT)com
Unfortunately in your area of CA, there is no roaming partner.
The only roaming in CA is in some parts of N. CA up Hwy 1 and 101, towards the Oregon border, and in the 395 corridor.
I'm thinking of upgrading from my HTC Rhodium on ATT to a Desire Z (also on ATT). Is there anything I should be looking for to make sure it will play nice with the 3G network?
Thanks

You'll need to buy the Canadian version of the DZ (from Bell Mobility).

[Q] Is There a way to get a verizon prl to get better 3g radio signal

Where i work all my co-workers have verizon and they get a signal no problem is there a way i can improve my Epic Touch 4G signal by changing the prl to use verizons radio just for the calls ? Thanks
Yes, I have the Sprint PRL 11115 on my phone now that allows me to toggle between Sprint and Verizon.
OR you could go with the 00001 which is Verizon only.

My friend claims he used 00001 to get his service terminated so he could go to AT&T without paying the ETF fee. *Shrug*

What exactly do you mean "Toggle between verizon and sprint"?

Meaning he uses the app roam control (not available in the market) to force roam on Verizon's network when he so chooses.

Correct. And I'll be honest and say I find himself just staying on Verizon lately. I'm so sick of the SLOW Sprint data. What is the freaking point of "Unlimited" if it never works?
I'd rather have 3 or 5GB of data on AT&T that actually WORKS fast then Sprint's so called false advertising slow crap network. It's a shame too, I'm a 10+ year customer. The speed was good at one point then all the sudden it went to crap. I'm so sorry I renewed. Verizon is a little better though. I just leave Roam Control set to Roam Only until I figure out what I wanna do.

[Q] What Exactly is data roaming?

I know im going to sound like a noob right now but oh well. I Never understood what roaming really is, Can someone explain it to me? I saw some threads about people hacking the prl to verizon and people getting faster speeds?. I have the unlimited plan. Will sprint charge me for roaming? My sprint 3g is crap and we don't have 4g here where i live. I'm running CM9 alpha 2. How can i hack the prl to verizon on this rom.

Data roaming is using data from another cellular network, when outside of your service providers network area. Sprint allows unlimited roaming (as far as I know) with a catch, when a certain amount of data is exceeded they can terminate your account. A prl is a preferred roaming list, it chooses what towers your phone will connect to first which will determine speeds and service. If you install a custom prl to your phone, you may get much better service, but depending on the prl you may be roaming (some prl's your phone will alert you for roaming, others may not) if you are, and you use data a lot, you may get terminated.
Thank you so much. I went ahead and hacked the prl. if i get terminated will i have to pay a termination fee or what ?

I don't think so but to be honest with you I'm not completely sure what they do, as far as I know they just terminate your contract which is good if you don't like Sprint but you may not be able to ever sign up with them again. Are you getting better speeds now?

Roaming on an AT&T S3?

Do AT&T phones roam here in the United States? I'm new to AT&T and normally I always have signal but recently my company has me working in a new area where I virtually get NO signal. I'm always getting the circle with the line threw it, it seems like.
I just came over from Sprint because we have no LTE in my area and the 3G was a JOKE! AT&T has LTE almost everywhere I go and like I said, I normally always have full bars but in this one city I do not.
On Sprint, I could roam over to Verizon if I had no signal and it worked great.
I'm wondering if you can roam or force roaming on an AT&T phone the way you can on Sprints?
I do know that Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile all work fine in the same area I'm having issues with AT&T.
Thank you.
Yes they automatically roam to other compatible carriers who have roaming agreements with AT&T. However, your phone won't indicate you are roaming. There is no cost to nationwide roaming, so ATT feels it's better to just make it 100% seemless.
If you use more that 100mb of data while roaming you will get a threatening email, text and letter. They will then change your account so that in the future you will see a roaming indicator when you are roaming.
You won't roam to Verizon or Sprint because their networks are not compatible.

I wondered about the roaming data stuff. If you were to move to an area where you are not under AT&T coverage, and continue to accumulate, will they be willing to let you out of contract without the ETF? After all, you would not be responsible for AT&T lack of coverage in the area. I have looked at a couple of locations while in the market for a home that does not have AT&T coverage and I am only 8 months into contract. I don't want to tally up another cost if I don't have too. I am not intentionally moving there to get out of contract, but rather the prices and locations of the homes are right.

[Q] Any ROMS That Have Forced Roaming on EpicTouch

I'm sorry if this was covered somewhere else but I've been unable to verify which (if any) ROM allows you to force roaming. I'm on Sprint and go to the San Bernardino (CA) mountains every weekend where there's almost no coverage. My sons on Verizon and his phone not only works but also has data coverage up there. I have another 1.5 years left on contract (5 lines) so don't suggest I change to Verizon. That will come at the end of my contract.
I purchased Roam Control but the developer is not supporting the app and the program won't register to allow me to use it. I'm not the only one with this problem.
Does any of the ROMS developed for the Epic 4G Touch on Sprint have the ability to force roaming on Verizons network? My phone is stock but rooted. I have flashed different business PRl's to see if any of them would enable the phone to roam with no luck. Tried going where there's no signal, turn off phone then turn on to see if the phone would automatically connect to the Verizon signal once it see's that there's no Sprint signal but no luck.
We have no internet or phone service so wifi's not an option. I can walk around and eventually get a signal to make a call but have no data at all.
Walking around to find a signal is not always an option.
I've been a lurker on here for years and figured if you guy's don't know, then nobody will know.

Thank you. Roam Control now works. I'll try it out next weekend and report back so anyone who is following will know the results. Thanks again.
