Changing Nav Bar Icons (SOFTKEYZ) - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would one of you rooted G3 users mind giving the Softkeyz app a try to change their nav bar buttons?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.janis605.softkeyz&hl=en
While I impatienly wait for my pre-ordered G3 to arrive, I'm trying to build a list of the tweaks I want to make to it immediately. One of the critical ones is to change the stock nav bar icons to the Android "L" nav bar icons. They look great on the Nexus 5 and I want to see if that Softkeyz app works in changing them on the G3 as well.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Here are the Android "L" nav bar icons, in case you are wondering...

g3 tweakbox has that option and is a much more guaranteed working tool for g3

Softkey Z doesn't work.

Tried it and it doesn't work.
And also I can't find option to change icons in the g3 toolsbox.

If you go to the second post in the tweakbox thread it tells you how to do it and gives you 2 links for some to download.
FAQ:
How can i install and use Navigation Bar Themes ?
1)Download the themes
* HERE Thanks to @AyDee
* HERE Thanks to @slewi
2)Install them ( they are apk files)
3)Open System Settings------------->islay------->Front Touch Buttons-------------->Color and choose your theme
4)Done
How can i remove the AM/PM from the clock on the status bar ?
You have to use a custom html style to remove it:
1)Theme Tweaks----------->StatusBar--------------->Clock Style------------>Custom HTML Style
2)Then click on custom HTML format and enter without quotes:
----------------"hh:mm" (if you want 12h)
----------------"kk:mm" (if you want 24h)

Thanks for all the info guys. After doing some more reading this morning/last night it looks like I'll be using Tweakbox to make any adjustments.

I use Softkeyz on my Nexus 5 right now and love it. Has anyone contacted the developer about getting it to work with the G3?
Nevermind, I contacted the developer janis605 and linked this thread.

Hey there,
SoftKeyZ and all the button packs were designed to work with the AOSP implementation of the SoftKeys. LG modded theirs *a lot* and finally they aren't compatible anymore at all. LG uses like three images for each button in different situations and is just completly different from stock Google code.
BTW in case you are asking: all mods available for the G3 that allow to change the Nav Buttons probably just change the way the SoftKeys are handled to the AOSP way to work around LG's stuff.
Samsung and LG's soft buttons won't work with SoftKeyZ. It's like asking someone to change the wheels of a boat, just because a boat is also used for transportation.
The image I've attached shows that LG is doing things ( a bit :silly: ) more complicated then it has to be (AOSP stuff)
... and that's only the home button.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply to my PM. I hope there's something we can do in the long run, or at least once this thing has some roms on it. I L O V E Softkeyz.

Yep. That's my plan as soon as the T-Mobile variant gets root.

I have a G3 D855 I have root and changed the nav buttons via xposed installer there's a mod that changes them to L style.

Hello guys, since today i also got a Huawei Ascend P6 and i really like it!
Ofc first thing was to root and install another launcher (Apex) and all the other customisation which was needed.
But now i'm stuck, im trying to make the background colour of the onscreen Menu buttons black but cant find anything decent on the net.
Anyone tried it already or has found something which doesnt require major coding skills?

The easiest way the change the color of the nav bar is to install a different navbar from the playstore and disable the stock one (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1)

Hi could please elaborate on this procedure. Thank you!
Nevermind. I edited the build.prop.
On the other hand, I'm using GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys for awhile now, and looks like that's what this is all about. I want to change the Huawei navbar to black permanently, and instead of just hiding it.
Thanks again.

I want nothing just the symbols and no grey or black background, it just looks plain ugly. Why Huawei does this don't know ...
Make a list of addition, changes or fixes to be done on the Emotion UI 1.6 and send it to here:https://www.facebook.com/Huaweiemui
and hopefully they would forward it and make changes in the upgrade. :cyclops:
I also want to have a transparent soft keys background when i use another launcher.I don't want to be able to hide the soft keys bar.I just want it to be transparent like in the stock launcher. No luck so far.

I want the same....but don't find solutions.
The only method for this,is installing xposed with which can quit the default navbar and put one different (transparent, more small,etc...).....but if you do this disables the modifications on status bar of your current theme.
yes

After install xposed, you must install the app "xblast" ...into xposed there are several modules and one of these is xblast which change navbar and more.
Can someone tell me if my following thought is wrong?
So when we use stock launcher the system uses a transparent soft keys background. When we change the launcher ( Nova for example ) the system is giving the command to use a gray background.
1) Is this grey background a png picture or a color code?
2) If it is a grey png where it's located in the system?
3) If it's a grey png and if i am rooted , can i just find the grey png and replace it with a transparent png with the same dimensions?
4) If the grey background is a color code in which xml file is located in the system?
5) If it's a color code can i just replace the code with a code for transparent color?

If you are using a rooted device, then my suggestion would be to install Gravity Box, and then Ultimate Dynamic Navbar.
The first allows you to disable to navbar completely, while the second creates its own, that can appear via tap, swipe, and be as configurable as you want.

Yes, as I said: you need the first (G2 Xposed works also) to disable the navbar or you will get two bars. Just a word of warning: if you are using any version of stock KK on the G2, then disabling the navbar will break the Weather Widget. This behavior does not occur with 4.2.2 on the G2.
I have not tested this on the G Pad since the screen is sufficiently spacious for me not to be concerned with the soft buttons. On the G2 I had to choose between hiding the navbar or having the camera LG promised, but that only modders delivered. I went with the camera as in my sig.

Sadly not. I know it is possible and works, since my preferred ereader Moon+ Reader Pro automatically goes into full screen mode when reading, and only activates the navbar when touching the screen to activate the options, and of course all video players do this. There are other apps such as GMD Auto Hide, which comes with a notification bar icon that you can enable or disable at will.

Hi,
another guy told me i can set immersive mode per app in 'app settings' xposed module.
I tried it and It works on all the apps i need to be in Immersive mode. However it doesnt work well with tapatalk. Also on calculator, all the buttons seem stretched. No probs i can live with that.
I used to use GMD Auto Hide, but it stopped working after Kitkat update. I'll give Ultimate Dynamic Navbar a try..

Navigation Bar Transparency
Hi guys,

My only issue is that the navigation bars appear to go transparent when I open the notification window. Is there any way to keep these black, as per stock, but keep transparency in other places?

Almost no chance it will be looked at by Rich. It's not possible making this app compatible with all Xposed mods. So please keep compatibility problems with other Xposed modules out of this thread.
first thx for the great app
just wanted to report 1.2.5 also works without problems on a "HTC one mini 2" with rooted 4.4.2 stock rom
cant use all features cause of write protected kernel and still no s-off availability but any other options, not depending on these are working out of the box

Great Modul.
It's it possible to at next alarm to show?
cannot shut down/reboot phone properly
I'm on a VZW HTC One M8, CleanROM 3.0, and Android 4.4.4, and have been running Xtended/Xposed for a while now without issues (thank you!), and recently upgraded to Xtended 1.2.6.
Since doing so, I can no longer long-press my power button to bring up the shut down options screen: long-pressing power from the operating phone sends me immediately to the boot splash screen, whereupon the unit hangs and only VOL+PWR reboots. I fixed this once by enabling, then disabling, then enabling and mucking with APM module settings (from the Miscellaneous Settings tab of the Xtended GUI) - this allowed the custom APM settings to appear and restore functionality to the power button - but since then I went back in, adjusted the APM module order and visibility, and I'm now back to being unable to shut the phone down successfully regardless of APM settings.
Please help? I enjoy the Xtended functionality but not being able to shut my phone off is an unfortunate experience.
EDIT 1 - On previous versions of Xtended I used the app's custom APM settings, and I can easily imagine that I did not deactivate/uninstall the previous version properly. If there's a cache that needs dumping or stock file I need to replace, or what-have-you, I could follow those directions... but I'm not sure what's really causing this behavior.
EDIT 2 - I think I can get the power button functionality restored when I use my previous version's APM settings, so I'm pretty sure this is a leftover fragment from a previous version caused by my deactivation/uninstall/new install sequence not being executed properly. How can I clean out the previous Xtended settings? Choosing to "restore settings to default" was not helpful... is there a legacy cache or file somewhere?

OK. i think i managed it now with G4 Tweakbox despite the free edition.
changed in tweakbox the long press action for the notification button to menu - then longpress to 0ms - in the stock setting added the notification button - reboot. voila the notification button now works as menu button.

Easier to just get rid of the navbar.
Huh?
If you're rooted it's a simple fix

No I use to root with all my phone's but I don't see to much benefits these days besides battery , CPU tweeks and ad blocking, I normally run into to much hassle with rooting especially with online banking
Navbar color is controlled by app. Switch to dark theme in system settings or light theme in xda app. Problem solved.

No? Yes.
If you're rooted you can manipulate the nav bar any way you want.
I don't have the nav bar showing at all. There's no pill and no shading at all. The left gesture is completely disabled so it's easier to use apps built in swipe menus. I have 3 swipe up gestures.
And there's plenty reason to still root phones.
You can control which apps can have access to your phone and when they run in the background. Apps like Facebook and TikTok are constantly running and sending and receiving data. I have them locked down so they can't do anything unless they're open.
And online banking is an easy fix too. You just have to know what you're doing. It can be a little bit of a hassle getting everything done but it's worth it when you see the end results.
A properly setup rooted phone is better and more secure than it's non rooted counter part.

While I agree with you, note that some bank's apps just can't be fooled.

Following this! On latest beta 4 here, can it be rooted?
Yeah the root guide here works. Basically download the beta, extract IMG, patch and flash

AOSP Mods - for this and other features, it's working fine on Android 13 Stable that came out two days ago. There are some features that the developers of AOSP Mods are still re-implementing to work on Android 13.

Works on rooted 13 flawlessly.
I confirm it's working like a charm (P6 Android 13 official + Root)
