Since it's a different problem I open this new topic and copy my message from the other one.
I flashed yesterday SlimKat and backed up my SMS with Super Backup; after I restored the SMS with Super Backup I got the notification on the Messages app that I have 163 new SMS (the number of restored SMS) and there's no way I can remove the notification.
I also disabled the app since I use Hangout but the notification is still there.
It only disappeared when I cleared data from settings, but if I open Messages the notification appear again, and also if (without opening the app) I restart the phone.
Of course reading the SMS won't change anything
What should I do?
Nobody?

I am running SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.2 (Malanga)
It is nothing short of awsome. I just noticed that I am recieving two of the same messages sent to (phone#)@messaging.sprintpcs.com
I think this is SMS ... (not sure) any ideas? Messages sent from another phone come through correctly.
I also use handcent and it is also showing a duplicate message.
Can the stock messaging be removed?
I did install Handcent via CW from a .zip file from a midNIGHT ROM extras folderand it works perfectly, but i wonder if it has something to do with it.
Go into the stock messenger app:
Goto menu/settings and uncheck
1. Notifications
2. Receive automatically
3. and any other boxes that are checked..
And no if you remove the stock messaging apps it will break your mms, from downloading/sending...
I'm experiencing a very strange behaviour in my SMS widget. Everything works fine until you receive a SMS and delete it without opening. Then in the widget you still have a notification of an unread message and can't get rid of it, because you can't open the deleted message. I'm using ARHD 5.1.7, but I had the same behaviour in previous versions (maybe it started with Gingerbread). Any thoughts on this?
I tried to delete the data for the messaging app and widget but still no success (that didn't even delete my messages, so maybe they are stored somewhere else). Seems that the only way of geting rid of the notification is to do a full wipe, but I won't do it just because of this.
I had something similar to this, pain in the ass keep thinking you have a new message but you dont. It was just with the stock msg app, it eventually just stopped doing it after I deleted all my msgs. who knows..
I'm experiencing the same problem. I don't know if I deleted some SMSs directly from the widget without opening them (it's very likely). Anyway the widget says I have 2 unread SMS but it is not true! I have 0 unread SMS actually.
I'm looking for a way to solve this problem without deleting all the SMSs.

There are two people (at least) that I can't send text messages to. One is on AT&T and one is on Sprint so their carrier isn't the issue. And it doesn't matter which sms app I use.
When I use Chomp I get this result: "Unfortunately, chomp SMS has stopped."
When I use the stock messaging app I get this result: "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."
There is no existing thread with these people and their cell phone numbers are valid. When they send me texts everything looks normal on their end but I don't get the message.
I am bone dry stock.
Any ideas? This is very annoying and I probably will have the same problem with other people, I just haven't discovered it yet.
I've never heard of this issue before

I don't think so. How do I check? When I long press their names in the contact list I see an option to "add to reject list" which suggests they aren't blocked. How else can I check?
I don't think I've blocked anyone. Is there a way to check everyone I've blocked? And on a related note, what happens when I add someone to the reject list? If they call me will they go straight to voicemail or what?

Are you opposed to rooting and trying out a ROM? I honestly don't know what's going on, but if it's crashing your sms programs, it sounds to me somehow software or settings related (but I've never seen anything that could do that). Since it's most-likely software related, I'd bet a fresh install would solve it.
But that being said, it's a really bizarre thing to have happened.
I'd try erasing the problem contacts and re-adding them before going too far into it. Very odd problem though, thats for sure!
It does not sound like you have anyone Blocked / Rejected. Did you install any apps before the issue started?

Honestly, I have never heard of this before. Usually, I would never want to bother sprint tech, but I would go show them and see what they think. That is very odd. Have you tried a factory reset? (Backup everything first)

Sprint Galaxy S3 "Supernexus"
Whiplashh Rom
Look it up.
So I'm in a major bind. I realized that the problem was for anyone who I didn't already have a sms thread with. If I send/receive text messages with someone that has an existing thread, it works fine. If they don't have a thread send/receive text fails as I described.
I tried uninstalling Chomp SMS and that didn't help. So I figured there might be some corruption in my text message store so I backed up my sms & mms and then deleted everything. Now I can't send/receive text messages from ANYONE and when I try to restore my text messages it fails. I backed up with two different apps to be safe and they both failed.
At this point it seems like the only option is a factory reset. Does anyone have another suggestion to fix this?
Before doing a factory reset I'd like to back everything up but I'm not rooted yet and to make matters worse I'm on vacation with my Mac rather than my Windows laptop -- so rooting is not possible. I don't want to do a factory reset and lose everything but I can't be away for this many days without the capability to send/receive text messages. Especially since people who are texting me have no idea I'm not getting their texts. FML
Turn on Mobile Data. Update Profile & PRL, Turn off your mobile data.
Backup export your contacts list. should be like a
Contacts.VCF file.
And backup your SMS messages if possible
Go into applications / All Applications > Wipe Data for both messaging apps + Wipe Contacts list.
Turn off your sync for contacts.
Reboot your device.
Open up both messaging apps and tweak / change what ever you need in the settings for both applications.
Turn on your data and reset LTE/CMDA CMDA/EVDO back and forth once
Reboot your phone.
Import your contacts list.
Re-sync your contacts.
Then try messaging them.
If that doesn't work then I have no clue what'll help with your issue being non-rooted.

I tried this, it didn't work.
Now I have another problem. When I try to sync my contacts, after restoring them from the backup, I'm getting an error. The error says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Maybe it will be back shortly but in my experience with a similar problem with calendar syncing a couple years back, this is not so easy to fix.
Any suggestions?
Your firmware and base is updated to MD4 right?
EDIT:
Have you tried Go SMS Pro Using this method?
Download from Google play
Open application and go to settings
Click Advanced Tab.
Click MMS Settings
Checkmark Fill APN Configuration Manually.
Code:
MMSC
http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS Proxy
68.28.31.7
MMS Port
80
Force Close application, and then reboot it, and now try sending something SMS or MMS.
Yes, I'm on MD4.
I actually think MD4 may have something to do with this. The first time I noticed the problem was right around the time I installed MD4. It was within a day, either right before or right after. For some reason Sprint pushed MD4 to may waaaaay after everyone else got it which is why I just recently got it.
I tried your Go SMS Pro technique but got not joy. The stock messaging app still crashes. Go SMS doesn't crash when I send messages but nothing is actually sent. And whenever someone sends me text messages I still don't get them.
Hi all,
I have an HTC Dual-Sim (China version) running Lollipop 5.02 4.25.1401.6, rooted and TWRP; and have been using it quite flawlessly since I brought it.
Since the 28th, I have not been able to receive any text messages on both sims, though sender's phone for the text message will show as delivered and read. I can send text messages no problem though.
So I did a few tests, a full reset or changing to a different rom will resolve the issue, but after I restore data the issue will come back.
I looked at the permission manager and everytime a message is sent (from my one sim to the next), three apps will show up: messages, phone and google play services
and the phone app shows it has the permission to read, write and delete messages, cant set it as denied either.
3rd party sms apps like handcent doesnt receive anything either, the same with Hangouts.
Checked for blocked contacts but the lists are empty...it feels as if the phone gets the message but a specific app is receiving and deleting all the received messages.
Now the question is, any way of getting my phone working without having to build up my data from scratch?
It the same whether its a 4.4.4 rom, stock, 5.02. Once data is restored, I cant receive sqwat.
Not being lazy or anything but I rather not install everything from scratch, I forgot some of my credentials for some apps and some are registered on old phone numbers which I dont have anymore.
Any feedback is much appreciated.
Ok so for whoever that may run into this problem also, the issue was greenify 2.6 beta 3...
It somehow disabled the text broadcast and I dont even receive the text in the message app.
Uninstalling it doesnt remedy the issue, had to install 2.6 final, install xposed for lollipop and enable all the options I did before the issue occurred and now I can receive text messages again.
I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature in the Messaging SMS app on LineageOS 14.1, but there doesn't seem to be a setting to permit keeping old SMS messages anymore.
I was on CM 13 on my i9100 and just migrated to LOS 14.1. I used the "experimental" migration LOS ROM (which I had saved in February: 20170226) as an interim before flashing the 0412 "weekly".
After the update everything seemed basically OK. There were a few system settings I had to redo by hand, but that wasn't a big deal. I checked my phone call log, and everything was there, but then I checked my SMS history in the Messaging app, and it was empty.
I don't use SMS a lot, but what I use, I like to keep. I had the default CM13 (and earlier) Messaging app set to keep all old messages, no automatic deletions. Never had a problem before, even during upgrades.
Anyway, after I found my old SMS missing, I went into Titantium Backup (latest update) and did a restore from the TWRP Nandroid backup I did before upgrading, only the Messaging app data. Then I went back into the Messaging app, and there were my old SMS texts. Great!
Then the strangest thing happened. The messages started disappearing! The screen refreshed a few times, messages appeared as others vanished, and in a few seconds I was staring at an empty list. I checked the "Archived" list just in case, but it was empty as well. (Later I found this action was reproduceable: restore from Nandroid, SMS appears at first, then dynamically disappears.)
So I wondered about the "keep old messages" setting in the Messaging app, and went to check it. But it's not there anymore! The LOS 14.1 Messaging app appears to have a lot fewer settings than the CM 13 app: no maximum SMS or MMS, no "delete old messages" to uncheck, nothing!
I've tried using other SMS apps from the Play Store, as well as Carbonite "SMS Backup and Restore", but I can't seem to get them to recognize the restored SMS. Only the new LOS 14.1 Messaging app seems to recognize them, and only long enough to delete them.
I've been trying various things like setting the default SMS app to something else, but I haven't been sucessful in keeping my SMS. It's very frustrating, knowing that they're there, but I can't access them.
Anyway, if anyone has any advice on what I should do, and why the new Messaging app won't let you keep old messages, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Workaround found
OK, I managed to find a workaround. In my case it helped to have a second "spare" i9100 to work with, which allowed me to have one on CM13 and one on LOS14.1, but it should also work with a single phone, with a lot of overhead jumping between CM13 and LOS14.1 nandroid restores.
1) Restore CM13 with the working Messaging app, and all the old messages there. Install "Carbonite SMS Backup and Restore" and backup the SMS.
2) Go back to (or restore) LOS14.1, and use Carbonite to restore SMS.
3) Start LOS14.1 Messaging, and the SMS stays this time!
I'm not sure why this worked. Is the "delete old messages" setting gone in the Messaging app because the functionality is gone? Then why did the messages disappear when I did a Titanium nandroid extraction? It's all very confusing. At least now I have lots of SMS/MMS backups if something goes wrong again, about 500 messages in 1.5 MB.
Hope this workaround helps someone else in this situation.
I have the same issue now. Did someone find a solution as I don't have a CM13 to try the mentioned workaround?
BTW, I see the following messages in logcat, but I have no clue why the messages are deleted:
Code:
11-29 12:20:14.198 10203 10250 I MessagingAppDataModel: SyncMessagesAction: Updated local database (took 54 ms). Added 0 SMS, added 0 MMS, deleted 80 messages.

11-29 12:20:14.762 10203 10265 I MessagingAppDataModel: SyncMessagesAction: Updated local database (took 118 ms). Added 0 SMS, added 0 MMS, deleted 1000 messages.
11-29 12:20:14.914 10203 10267 I MessagingAppDataModel: SyncMessagesAction: Updated local database (took 33 ms). Added 0 SMS, added 0 MMS, deleted 544 messages.
Thanks in advance,

hey,
my comment will be a bit late, and apologyze for that.
As far as I can understand, you have a problem of synchronization when the backup application become the default message app. This is like you have zero message in archive and the system want the same on both side: archive and message store on your phone. It take long and progressively when there is a lot of messages.
Anyway, this is not a standard behaviour, unless you enabled a special option.
My best bet to solve it, would be to backup call and messages with SuperBackup, copy it on external storage. Then clean and re-install CM (or LineageOS).
If you use a Google account, let Google sync your messages and call log (Google messages backup is sometimes unreliable and archive uncomplete).
If you are not sure everything is here, just delete all call and messages. Then restore it from SuperBackup.
I leave all default parameters as is.
This is how I get it done.
