I have a problem
My SMS inbox total is 6867
My SMS sent items total is 7230
Im running a Dopod P800W (HTC3300) and Windows Mobile 5
Is there are limit to SMS counts ?
When I restart my phone, my SMS in my Inbox "forgets" all the SMS for that day as if I received none. Same applies for my sent items folder.
As long as I restart my phone, I would lose all the incoming SMS for that day and regardless how many times I restart, it would reset to that amount.
Sometimes, I get lucky and it "remembers" the SMS's but another restart would just delete them all. Its as if changes to the SMS database are not saved.
I have all the SMS's but newer SMS's are not remembered from yesterday onwards.
Any idea?
I think it's an annoying BUG as I have the same issue..
the work around is to make sure the message application is closed when you have finished with it as this sort of saves them...It would seem that if it's running when you restart/reboot phone it looses all unsaved messages so new messages must be seen as unsaved some how.
hope that helps..

what i managed to find out that a few SMS messages were bugged when I deleted them from the Deleted Items list
this was a few days ago..
I restored using SPB Backup to a date BEFORE deleting those messages and choose not to delete them (for the sake of this bug)
So after a few tests and restarts, I dont have this problem anymore
Looks like I have 2 leave these messages in the Inbox
I have had the same problem, but now, I cant save any thing and every time I receive a text message my ppc restarts after a while.
this happened after I deleted a message from the deleted items folder
(i have 13000 text messages in my inbox and 14000 in my sent items)
what should i do?
hei , this thread is still around
anyways, i did the same thing which got me into this problem
i cant really remember but it was to do with a corrupted SMS in the deleted items folder
the thing is that deleted SMS in the deleted items cannot be deleted forever so i decided not to delete it but just move it back into the inbox (13001/14000) and it worked again
Wow.. thanks jcsy... I did the same thing too
1. Identified the SMS that is bugged (somehow, this SMS appeared multiple times) which I deleted previously
2. Restored it from the deleted folder back into my Inbox
3. Restarted my PDA
Voila! It doesn't give any more errors.... my SMS are all in tact!
The question now is - would this 'bugged' SMS harm anything in our phone? Is it a virus?
i think its an SMS which should be corrupted somehow in the database since its a big one, which we maintain
thousands of SMS's
well, i didnt bother about it and now all my SMS continues to save as normal
glade that solved your problem
but ive got a new problem now instead, which is killing me...
I keep getting a notification from all the different SMS apps I have tried that is called "Hidden Sender Address". When you click on it, it takes you to the app but not to a message. Chomp SMS indicates it is an MMS message. I cant find any unread message in the stock app or any aftermarket ones.
Regardless, I cant find it to delete and it wont stop showing up in the notification bar. Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of this?

OP, have you been able to fix this issue? I just received the update to Jellybean and am currently suffering from the same issue. I have tried deleting all messages and clearing the app cache but haven't been able to get rid of this notification.
I'm actually receiving the same false notification and it started today for no reason other than opening an mms. On galaxy s3 CM10 preview
Nope...havent found an official fix. If I use Chomp, it doesnt appear. GO and Handcent and it shows back up anytime I receive a new message.

If you're using a 3rd party messenging app, disable the auto-retrive MMS. Go to Stock messenger and enable auto-retrieve MMS.
I use Chomp and this fixed the problem for me. Hope it helps.

Yes this is how I got around it but I couldnt find the options in Go or Handcent to disable MMS retrieval. So I am stuck with Chomp which is not the best of the three IMO.
Just started getting this today as well on GO SMS. Easiest fix- Option key, More, Mark All Read. Cleared them out for me and the notifications thay wouldn't go away are gone.

In handcent you can go to "receiving message settings" and disable auto retrieve. My sister uses handcent and hasn't received any MMS problems since.
Hey guys. I had this pop up last night after receiving 2 MMS in a row. Setting the auto retrieve off did not fix it but "mark all read" did. Just to let you all know.
I am on Motorola Atrix CM10 4.1.1 using Handcent
I believe there is a feature to mark certain contacts/conversions as secret. That I'd what that notification is. Look in your settings for something that refers to that. Those messages don't go to inbox but separate folder. Think you might have to password them to access.

I think what you are talking about is the private inbox. Those still come up and go away just like normal text messages except they bounce to the private box. That is not what we are talking about here though

Just wanted to say thanks for this. I have a Galaxy S III and started getting this as soon as I got 4.1 on my phone, drove me nuts. Just googled hidden sender address and found this thread.
Hidden Sender Address notification !!!FIX!!!
I was having this problem the other day after installing a jellybean messaging app. It worked fine for a day or so then I started getting "Hidden Sender Address" all the time and then wasn't even able to delete my texts. I would delete the entire conversation and it would still show that there was a conversation there, but it was all empty.
I contacted at&t to see if they had any ideas and the only thing they could come up with was factory reset. Screw that I knew there had to be another way. I'll never trust them completely!
I contacted the creator of the app and this is what he had me do and it did work:
If you have root you can clear the DB by deleting this file (apparently):
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Of course that will delete all your SMS and MMSs, but you can
(hopefully) back them up to gmail and restore them afterwards using
SMS Backup+.

Why cant he just update the app to fix this issue?
Any news on this fix by the developer?
FIX!!!!
OK Everyone. I have resolved this issue on my Galaxy SIII and your are more than welcome to replicate this but beware, you may lose your SMS history.
First you can either delete all SMS. I didn't want to do this for obvious reasons.
Second, scroll all the way to the bottom of all your SMS. If like me you have oodles of them this might be annoying and take a while. At the bottom I found a sender called 'ANONYMOUS'!!!! Sounds ominous doesn't it.
I deleted this thread and since then I have nto had this message appear. ALTHOUGH.... i lost all my SMS as a result.... LOL whoops. bug time!
Please note. I also disabled auto download MMS, cleared badgeholder cache (which temporarily works), readded SMS icon and disabled google hangout from picking up SMS and neither of these permanently resolved the issue but feel free to try these first as you probably should do as they are non destructive.
:good:
is anyone else having issues with sms badges not deleting after sms messages have been read? if there a fix? if i reboot it seems to clear it, but wanted a better solution.
anyone have the same issue or found a resolution?
i have this issue. this doesn't happen (most of the time) if i check a new message by pressing the "Messaging" icon. if i view new messages using the notification bar, the badge (number indicating new messages) doesn't go away.
Since it's a different problem I open this new topic and copy my message from the other one.
I flashed yesterday SlimKat and backed up my SMS with Super Backup; after I restored the SMS with Super Backup I got the notification on the Messages app that I have 163 new SMS (the number of restored SMS) and there's no way I can remove the notification.
I also disabled the app since I use Hangout but the notification is still there.
It only disappeared when I cleared data from settings, but if I open Messages the notification appear again, and also if (without opening the app) I restart the phone.
Of course reading the SMS won't change anything
What should I do?
Nobody?
At random times, I see duplicate text messages coming in (I use Messenger). I haven't figured out any pattern to this, but it is more than a little frustrating. Anyone else seeing something like this?
Not this exactly, but Go SMS will show duplicates my outgoing messages. However I've asked someone I sent them to and they said they didn't get dupes.
Stick to the stock text messaging application, and don't tamper with the network settings if you don't have to. If you flash, make sure you let the ROM boot up once before rooting and such.

here it is 2019 and this is happening to me...uuugggghhhh
I get this as well from time to time on LineageOS when I do a reboot, when OS starts, I get a bunch of notifications of previous messages. I think this has to do with permissions of the stock messaging app. When you install a different messaging app, it is suppose to disable stock notifications. But I got to looking at the stock messaging app settings and you can't disable notifications, that option is greyed out.
