[Q] Notification sounds problem - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi, I bought this device yesterday.
I have one (not so big) issue.
System can't see my notification sounds. I copied them as usual to "Notifications" folder, but when I try to change sound in preferences or in Gmail I don't see my mp3 files. When I copied them to "/system/media/audio/notifications/" then is OK.

[Q] Custom sounds are disappearing

This is starting to get annoying and I am hoping there is an easy solution. I have some ringtones and notification sounds that I like and have used on my last couple of phones. I created a folder called media on the internal sdcard. In that media folder I created another one called audio. I then put a ringtone folder and notification folder containing my audio files in that folder. Standard thing I have done on previous phones. I went into contacts and was able to assign one of these custom ringtones. I was also able to assign a custom notification sound as well. Everything seemed to be working. However, when I restart my phone, all of the ringtones and notifications I just assigned have reverted back to default and none of the custom sounds show up in the selection list. Anybody else experience this or know what it causing it and how to fix it. I have reset and reflashed my phone a couple of times and it is the same every time.
I have tried using root explorer and copying the files to the /system/media/ringtones folder and it still happens.
Problem solved. I was using the rescan media app to stop the media scanning so it wouldn't find the media files that I was using.

[Q] Add my own Notification sound without root

How can I add my own Notification sounds without root?
I noticed when changing your ring tone there is an ADD button. But there isn't one for notifications. I would like to change the sounds based on the app, different sound for email and another for texts and facebook and so on. Except I want my own sound I've created on my PC. I reied with Root Explorer but it says I'm not rooted so I can't ad to the notification folder.
I did a search and I've noticed the link below but I'm not sure how that helps. The notifications are deep in the folders in the storage not on the sd card.

You can download this app
http://apps.audiko.net no root needed just need to have open source. It let's you search for ring tones or notification sounds. If they don't have the sound you're looking for you can go to that Site on your computer upload the sound clip and it will turn it into the format you need for your phone, then click download on your computer, plug in your phone to your computer, open your phones folder, find the notification folder, drag and drop that sound file, close and check your notification sounds on your phone and its should be there.
This worked for me when I was taking a sound from my I phone and putting it on this phone. If the sound says, .caf just rename it to mp3 snd upload it to that site.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
1) Encode the sounds to the ogg format
2) connect your phone to your PC and open the phone (not sdcard) folder
3) If it doesn't already exist, create a folder called "Notifications"
4) Drop your new .ogg format sounds in that Notifications folder.
That's it - Assuming they are valid files, they'll now be available for selection when using the system's media picker for notification sounds.

why is my ringtone reverting to the default?

This is a strange one.
I have uploaded some songs onto my phone's memory (not SD card) and set one of them to be my ringtone for all contacts.
It works OK for a while, and then suddenly when someone calls me, I hear the default ringtone of the device (instead of the one I set)...
Then, when I go to the device's Sound & Notifications settings, I see that the ringtone that's displayed as the selected one is still the one I manually selected, but when i try to play it, it plays the default phone ringtone instead.
I can only get the real song to play after i remove it from the list and re-add it.
Any ideas?
I already turned the Ringtone ID setting off, and I have no SD card installed on the device.

It happened both when saved contacts and unsaved numbers called me.
Thing is that when I go to the Sound & Notifications settings, my selected ringtone now plays the default ringtone instead of the correct song. -:0
My selected ringtone is called "Stone the Crow".
When I go to the Sound & Notifications settings I see that this song is still selected, but when I click to play it, it plays the default device ringtone instead of Stone the Crow...

The songs are standard mp3 format, but I'll give it a shot and notify -
Ok, so I think the issue is solved, following your suggestion.
There are several possible reasons, in case any one else ever has the same issue.
My original files' extensions were in caps (MP3) and were transferred to the phone via Airdroid to the Music folder.
My fix was that i converted my MP3 to a FLAC file and saved it without caps. I also saved the file in the download folder instead of the music folder.
For now it has been over 24 hours without the ringtone being reset, so I'm guessing it was either the MP3 format, the extension or the music folder...
Thanks! -

Cannot change ringtone / notification sound anymore

Hi everybody,
I cannot change default ringtone or default notification sound.
Under both of these option is written "unknow ringtone". When I try to set up a new one, it's not saving. More over I cannot see anymore my ringtones saved in the "ringtone folder" of my SD card.
I've also tryed a third party app (Zedge) and why I try to change I got an error message "something goes wrong".
This morning, I noticed that the option to set a personnal ringtone for each contact have disapear...
Do you have any idea ?
Thanks

Talking of sounds i did notice there was a charging sound - ( sound to let you know the USBC cable is connected ) however this has never worked
I finally restored the phone to default settings.
There were a thousant of ".nomedia" files every where on the internal SD.

Cannot hear any notification sound in sound picker or from any app notification

I created a custom notification from a tiny mp3 file (Text Message voice to txt). Now, no notifications for any app. Even when you try to pick a new notification in the my sounds, or any of the others, it does not give a preview, almost like it is corrupt or silenced from playing. I can play notificaitons from file explorer ok. Other system sounds are working. Only thing I am onto right now is reseting phone or rooting it, replacing system sounds and trying it again. Any ideas? I have looked at everything!
