Xperia S /w unlocked bootloader bricked - USB not working - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hi XDA
I am using a Sony Xperia S with an unlocked bootloader and root. It is, as the title says, completely bricked and furthermore it isn't responding to my USB cables whether it be to my wall charger or to my computer(s).
I have tried doing a hard reset - both complete and just reboot. But It doesn't vibrate at all, and nothing happens.
I have tried connecting it in flashmode (holding volume button down and connecting to USB), still it doesn't react or show up on my pc.
I have tried using different USB cables (3 of the kind)
I have tried using different USB ports and computers.
I have tried using a different wall charger (still for the same phone though).
All of those things without it responding in any way. It was fully charged and in my pocket and when I was about to check it, it was completely dead. And I haven't been able to do anything. The only thing odd, was the heat just beneath the camera (Guessing that is where the CPU is located.)
If any of you brilliant minds have any kind of advices. I'd be more than happy to try them out!!!!

I am not sure what happened... But after being in the charger for 24+ hours and then getting plugged into the computer with flashtool ready (rubber band method). It suddenly turned on as it should, and when shut off it shows the usual charging screen!
Thanks for your help though!

[Q] Touch got crazy during USB connection Arc S

as it`s said in the title, my touchscreen in Xperia Arc S is getting crazy during USB connecting. sometimes it just doesn`t work, sometimes behaves like I`ve putted two fingers on it, but I`m holding only one finger, sometimes just some area on screen works and some not. is there any way to fix that? i`ve got bootloader locked, so i can`t get root. I found this problem in every bulid I`ve tried.
I think this is a charger or Voltage or usb-cable's problem. you can change a usb-cable to try it again.

and BTW I`ve not got any spare cable to try it. will try it tomorrow with my mom`s, dad`s and sister`s cables and let know is that ok or not
edit: I`ve tried with another USB cable and still got this problem. normal charging is ok but PC-USB charging causing problem.
HI, I have the same problem on arc S. Is there any solution yet?

If this problem happening only when phone is connected to pc and sd card mounted then I guess its app2sd bug something.
If only in charge mode then you cable is maybe "old"
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
I'm guessing it's internal current leak. There's nothing you can do about it, other than getting another phone.
Its probably because your laptop/computer has an "unearthed plug" (a plug with only two pins) whereas, your phone charger has earthed plug (3 pin plug).
The 3rd pin is to push out the excess current/voltage from your device to the ground and that is the reason you dont experience multiple-touches when you connect your charger directly to sockets. Simple as that.
Or because of capacitive touch screen nature reaction on different voltage ?
0-87809
ya it happens only through the power supply and voltages problem..
it happens many times often...
i noticed that problem in indian trains..that when i did charging in train.it happens
and sometimes the battery also gets severly damaged through it..
so BEWARE..!!
I found the best solution ever....... just sold my Xperia and bought HTC Sensation
but for other people, I just had pre-beta version of Windows 8, which has a looooooooooooooooooooooooot of bugs, I reinstalled Windows 7 and all problems gone. And ether USB devices was getting crazy as well, so that must be something with USB port, not phone.
Howdy guys,
I found that there was a small amount of "noise" on the 5v line comming from my charger. and that was causing the touchscreen to fritz.
i tested using my osciliscope.
you'll prob find that the 5v line from you laptop is dirty. and the arcs internals cant filter it out. i dont know if prolonged use can cause dammage tho but i would advise against it.
so charge it from a stable source.
Pvy.
The same problem happens only when I connect my phone via HDMI to a TV! And it's annoying!
i have the same Problem too if i charge my LT15i with the Charger from a HTC Wildfire. At First i thought it has something to do with CM7 but now , on Arconium its still the same.
Fortunately my phone charges normal on the USB Port of my PC in the Company
I would say that if you get this problem using the original charger in any wall socket, try another charger if possible otherwise have both your phone and charger examined at a repair center.
If you get this problem charging via USB from a laptop or connecting via HDMI to a TV, check if the same problem appears during charging through a wall socket.
Basically you will have to check if the grounding problem is located in the charger, phone or other devices like a laptop or TV.

And I tried now and I also have this problem when conected to TV. So my problem is connecting to TV and to PC, but not when charging over wall socket.

Yes I work at SE.
In that case it seems that something changes the ground in your TV and PC.
Do you have any problems when the phone is not connected to anything?
Because if it works properly when connected to the charger via wall socket I don't think it's a problem with the phone or charger.
You could try to disconnect some other equipment from the TV when you connect your phone to see if this might be caused by some other equipment like antenna cable, sattelite dish, DVD or Blueray players etc.

Big issue with USB

Hi everybody. I have had some strange issue. It is like if the usb entry wasn't working. The phone doesn't connect to the computer.
- If I plug it, it doesn't appear as connected.
- If I charge it it doesn't charge.
But here there is the thing... When the phone is completely powered off, if I connect the phone to the computer, the phone powers on, shows the bootlogo (in my case DoomKernel) and then powers off (without charging)
It is like If the USB entry was broken or something like that... I cannot flash other fw or kernel and I can charge it because I own a broken arc. I change batteries, charge, and rechange batteries.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

Have you got any Nandroid backups you could try restoring from when it worked?
I think it is a hardware issue. I would try that, but my nandroids are from other android version.
Currently I am using DoomKernel v22. If I restore a CM9 nandroid it would bootloop...
I have contacted with the service centre, and the warranty covers this, but I would be a month and a half without phone... I am trying to repair it myself.
That's a hardware problem. Probably with bq24185 chip. Without charger or usb cable connected, you can reboot your phone and check (via BBS) for a constant kernel wakelock called bq24185_watchdog_lock.
I don't know about Spain, but in my country, they gave me a new Arc S (they couldn't fix it) when this issue happened to me 6 months ago. Don't forget to flash stock FTF and relock bootloader (even if it doesn't restore the DRM keys) if you used official unlock method.

I bet your using a laptop.
I was in a hotel and only took my laptop a cable and my phone. then i had the exact same problem you are having. Turns out laptops usually only have 1 usb port inside. it hits a usb hub and then gets extended out to the ports you see on the outside of your laptop.
Laptops are all about saving battery life. so the hub takes some then after its all split up there isnt much to give your phone. so it never even recognises it. I was so mad. I thought it was the cable the whole time then i get home and the cable is fine. i went 3 days with no phone because it would not charge off the laptop.
Good luck.

Yes... that's why I think it is a hardware issue in the usb entrance to the phone...
EDIT: I have noticed, that when I try to get into flashmode, I unplug the phone, I press back key, I connect it and the green light appears for a milisecond, but I can't make it stand.... I can't get in any of the modes...
EDIT: The same with fastboot. I plug the phone while pressing menu key, blue light appears but suddently it goes.
EDIT3: I downloaded the rom I was using from the phone using wifi. I moved it to /sdcard. I rebooted into recovery and after wiping, I flashed it. I still cannot get in fastboot or flashmode...

[Q] Won't Turn On. Tried Everything

My phone won't turn on. I own a samsung galaxy nexus (verizon). I've had it for 16 months. I was talking on my phone then ended the call. Had it charging to the wall. Set my alarm for the morning. When I woke up my phone was off. I tried to turn it on. No luck. I did the 10 second volume down plus power button. Still nothing. I pulled the battery and did the wall charger no luck. I plugged it into my computer with the usb. It doesn't register it. The phone has no lights on it. The screen doesn't light up notifying me of it charging. The little flasher light on the bottom doesn't light up. Please help I'm out of options. I called verizon and they said i'm off warranty. I have no other options that I know of besides to get a new phone. I love my phone. I unlocked and rooted it. I have everything on it. I need to get it back on. Any and every idea will be tried. Thank you!!!!
Micah
Question: Did you use the same USB cable from the wall charger to the computer?
Could be a couple of things...if the answer is YES, I would change USB cables and see if that fixes it.
If the answer is NO, you could try to clean out the microUSB port. It's possible that some dust got into it, causing a small shunt or keeping the pins from connecting. I know my previous Galaxy Nexus had this issue...found out I had a piece of lint that somehow got into the MicroUSB port and kept the USB plug from seating correctly.

I used a different charger than the micro usb cable. in fact i used multiple different chargers. I also blew out my usb ports and cable. I tried again and again, using different usb ports as well. it didn't work. My computer just doesn't seem to identify the cable or phone like it use to.

If you have exhausted all possible means then the last resort for you is to try the USB jig. Usually it can wake the device up and put it to ODIN mode. If that fails too, then its a possible major hardware failure.

you can find the answer to this in HERE
Question , when you connect the charger, does it light up the battery symbol ?
Have u tryed to "center "the phone usb port with a needle or something like that ??
if not plz try this :
1) turn the phone off and take the battery out
2) take a toothpick, knife , pin or whatever will fit into the micro USB slot of the galaxy nexus.
3) VERY VERY slowly make it so that the little shelf like connector is in the middle.
4) connect ur phone and hope it gets back to life

When i connect my charger i get nothing. no symbol no lights no response. and the centering of the usb charger didn't work either. my phone has such a tight fit i couldn't even fit a thumb tack pin into it.
I've done lots or research on the USB jig. I'm going to try it. or find someone that has one. wish me luck!

TYPE C PORT broken?

Hi everyone,
Two weeks ago I charged my nexus 5x in my car via an 12v car adapter, the cable was USB-A to USB C, after about 5 minutes my phone reboot automatically then stucked at "Google" logo and fail to boot into marshmellow animation. Then I tried rebooting by pressing down the power button for about 20 second, but nothing changed (Still stuck at google). Then I pressed power button and volumn key down to enter the bootload mode, and choose power off. After that I could not start my phone or get it charged (with the original cable and adapter). My phone is never unlocked or rooted.
I finally resolved the issue by opening the back cover and unplug the battery, After the battery was pluged in again it finally come back to live.
Everything works OK until recently I want to copy some videos from my PC to nexus 5x, but nothing happen when I connect the phone to my PC (It works before), I could tell the driver is correct and the USB port work well as my Nexus 7 could be recognized just like normal. the USB configuration is MTP in developer options, but there just nothing change in device manager when the nexus 5x is connected. I've tried different PCs and other cables, the situation is the same.
Now I am suspecting the type C port is no longer able to transfer data but charging. I am planing to visit the nearest apple store and try if the original type C cable could work (I don't have any other PCs with typec port available).
Will update....

Actually I did not expect any warranty as I am using the phone in China, but nexus is never officially sold here.
I had my 5x turn off on me in the middle of the night while charging and refuse to turn on the next morning.
I had it unlocked, rooted running pure nexus ROM and had the surround sound and EIS mod though.
I tried other cables that I knew worked in the past too.
Maybe I had the same problem?
The phone was completely "dead" there was no red led indicator when holding the power button.
But software could be an issue I guess. I was running all of those mods for about 2 weeks however. No major drops or water damage.

Sounds quite similar!
So how is your phone now? Are you able to connect to PC as MTP?
Maybe I should try a factory reset first? But if the reset does not solve the problem it will be painful to transfer the data back from PC.
OP, does the cable you were using in the car have the proper 56k resistor? It might have partially killed your charging port if it doesn't and there happened to be a current spike.

I'm wondering if you meant 12 W, not Volt. Either way, I think I"m in the same boat. Been using an approved USBC-A cable with a 12w charger in the car, and now I've noticed that the USB debugging options will randomly show up in the notification shade when the phone is NOT plugged in. The only way to dismiss the notification is to plug the phone in. Additionally, the OEM charger no longer says "charging rapidly". I'm thinking the USB C port has taken a hit.
Any thoughts?

USB C just charging on one end when turned on

Hi everyone,
Something really strange happened to me last week (or at least I started noticing it last week)
First, when my HTC10 was turned on, it didn't recognize the charger at all, I tried different chargers and cables and the result was the same. If I turned off the phone it worked perfectly. I wiped the cache and tried again with the same result. I booted in safe mode and got the same result.
I hard reset my phone and loaded all my apps again and now the USB C just works when I plug it in a certain way when turned on(one of the two possible ways, impossible for me to know which of them). When turned off it works perfectly.
Does anyone has experienced this? I think maybe it's related with one app, since when turned off it works with no problem.
UPDATE:
I just hard reset my phone again and loaded NO apps but still the same behavior: when turned off USB C can charge the phone no matter which way I plug it, but when turned on it doesn't.

I just hard reset my phone again and loaded NO apps but still the same behavior: when turned off USB C can charge the phone no matter which way I plug it, but when turned on it doesn't.

Power phone up with it plugged in. Does it charge then? I get that problem often. I've narrowed my problem down to when I start my car with phone connected on charge (using car charger). Won't charge after that till I restart phone. I'm assuming it gets over or under voltage and safety circuit kicks in until restart. In your case it might be a charger or cable problem (or combination of both).

I think the problem was the cable I was using, after a while it started doing some crazy stuff like saying that I was not using a powerful enough charger. After I changed it everything is working like a charm
I'm experiencing similar problems, but this happened to me after my phone totally discharged, i repost my experience:
Hi guys! i'm occuring in a big problem, i was wondering if anyone of you had this experience with this or others phones, two days ago my htc 10 was totally without battery and died, so i put it on charge, but nothing happens, no led on, if i try to power on, no signs of life, unable to make it boot, even after hours of charge, i noticed that the phone anche the charger were cold, instead of hot like it should.... but after hours, even without led indicator on, i trying to recover it, with surprise, it was hot, i tryed to power on, no signs, i tryed combination of power button and volume buttons and it booted into dowload mode, and after a millisecond it re-died, and booted normally with 65% battery. BTW from that point the phone is unable to charge if i plug the cable into it, nothing happens, but if i put the cable, when is off, it charges even after boot, i tryed to recalibrate battery but nothing happens....
today, one day later, it seems the things are getting better, i'am able to charge it without having to put the phone off, but i always got the message that the charge is slow.
Clean the connector on the phone, make sure it's nice and shiny.
Give the cables a buff up, reboot your phone.
Allow it to boot, connect the official HTC charger in the wall.
Connect the official htc USB c cable into the charger and unlock your phone.
Connect the cable to your phone.
If that doesn't work, try a different wall socket.
Are you on stock? Have you altered any voltages? Any quick charge mods?

If you can reverse the modifications you've done to it I'd be tempted to say take it back to htc and get it sorted. Shouldn't be like that. Personally that's what I'd do.
