If you want to flash a custom recovery, then why did you use towelroot in the
first place, towelroot is for people who don't want to trip the knox counter.
If you are one of those people who don't want to trip the knox counter then
you cannot flash any custom recovery at all, flashing any custom recovery
will trip the knox counter..
So, if you don't care about tripping knox then why not root and install custom
recovery in the time proven way?
The time proven way is to first odin flash cf-autoroot and then odin flash twrp
custom recovery.
Here are the links to the odin flash cf-autoroot and the twrp recovery.
When you unzip cf-autoroot you will find cf-autoroot*.tar and Odin.
To make it easy for you, unzip cf-autoroot into an empty folder on your
computer's desktop and then copy the twrp tar file into it too.
CF-autoroot: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/CF-Auto-Root-hltetmo-hltetmo-smn900t.zip
TWRP custom recovery: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
Good luck!

well I tripped knox with superuser and busybox so I went past all that do I just put the recovery tar file in the PDA box of ODIN?
After Towel Root download TWRP and Term.apk then install Term.apk and use 'dd' to write the recovery image to the recovery partition.
dd if="recovery.img"of="/dev/block/mmcblk0p15"

Put the cf-autoroot TAR file into Odin's pda slot.
After you flashed the cf-autoroot let the phone
reboot and then go into download mode again
and odin flash the twrp recovery TAR file in odin's
PDA slot.
Good luck!
The device is already rooted so Chainfire's Auto Root is not necessary. If the device does not yet have a root manager (SuperSU, SuperUser) then one should be installed, but that can be done either before or after writing the recovery partition.

Make sure you have the correct TWRP for your Android version and device.

True, and the solution is to flash one of the acceptable recoveries for your Android version and device; stock, TWRP, Philz.

I cant get a single recovery to flash into my phone not TWRP ot CWM. I am no youngling with flashing but I am stumped. Any help would be appriciated. I am on 4.4.2 build does it matter?
figured it out I had to flash it twice. thanks for the thoughts
Does stock recovery succeed and does it clear the SEAndroid warning? If yes, yes then I can only suggest that you are trying to flash an incompatible custom recovery. I don't use Windows so I can't check your use of Odin. Try writing the partition with 'dd' as I described earlier.

That also suggests that you somehow got the wrong TWRP. If your device is the SM-N900T and it is running Android 4.4.anything then this is what you need:
https://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
If Odin wants a zip instead of a tar then this instead:
https://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-hltetmo-4.4.zip
Those are in the official TWRP repository.
Now that you got it working you probably want to leave it as it is, but while you have that procedure fresh in your mind is probably the best time to try to get the right TWRP working.

Okayy ive searched around and looked through ALL the threads and guides on rooting this phone and even followed some but im still stuck. Yes ive read and searched before asking so now im asking, is there any thorough guide or youtube vid maybe that shows how to properly apply full root to the T999N version of the galaxy s3 on metropcs? Im updated to 4.3 btw. Please no sarcasm/smart remarks
Did you try Root66 4.3 version ?
Best if you can flash a Custom Recovery via Odin and then flash SuperSU package through that Recovery.

Make sure that Recovery is compatible with your phone. Second post the complete odin log for that process.
I have it rooted now, just have to figure out a way to update twrp without removing root

Take least TWRP and Flash via Odin.
Where can I find the MK7 kernel, that's the only way I can get wifi to work.
Could someone please direct me to the latest AT&T stock image with root access? I flashed another one last night, and I'm not happy with the results. I can't flash CWM and SuperUser doesn't work, I will flash the latest AT&T stock with Odin. Thanks.

If you have the 4.3 bootloader on your phone, you cannot use Odin to flash a stock AT&T phone as it may brick it.
What bootloader is on your phone? How did you try to flash CWM?

I'm not sure. When I'm in Download Mode, this is what I have:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 1
BOOTLOADER RP SWREV: 2
SW REV CHECK FAIL: Fused 2 > Binary 8
When I plug my phone to my PC, it doesn't recognize it. I can get into recovery (CWM) though. I flashed CWM with Odin.
You have the 4.3 bootloader; therefore, you cannot use Odin to flash a stock image because AT&T did not release a full 4.3 stock ROM. The 4.3 ROM was made available as an OTA update.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486

I tried that but the installation aborted in CWM. When I plug my phone in to my PC it doesn't recognize it. I have to take out my SD card to load files into the phone, which obviously isn't working. In CWM, when I "choose zip from internal SD card" I see this:
- 0/
- legacy/
- obb/
When I select '0', I see all the menu choices. Did I eff up or lose my internal storage? I can't load files onto it. Can flash files to my internal via command prompt window?
Can you get into download mode? If you can, use Odin load the latest tar version of Philz Touch from here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att
hey guys,
I need help asap! I tried using the video on this website to root my tmobile S4. I downloaded Kies, Odin 3.07, ROOT_M919UVUAMDL.zip, and CWM as recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.2-jfltetmo.tar, I did NOT install triangle away( i forgot). I went through the steps and passed in Odin. then, when I pulled the battery and booted in CWM i couldnt find the file so i went to the store to buy a sdcard. when I came home i re-ran through Odin and found the root zip on the external sdcard. I successfully installed the root zip and clicked reboot. my problem arose when it showed a "KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING" in red, and a "SET WARANTY BIT: KERNEL" in yellow. it seems to be frozen in this screen and i can only use the CWM and Download mode. I have tried re-using Odin .
Please help!!
That's an old root method. You can either
1) flash a custom ROM and go about your business
2) Odin back to stock firmware and root with cf-auto root or towelroot

1) You can find tons of Custom ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/development
You usually flash them to your phone via a Custom Recovery such as CWM or TWRP. Or, is some cases you can use ODIN. Read, Read, Read, Read before your flash. It is very easy to do, but you need to understand what you are doing. All Custom ROMs come pre-rooted.
2) You can download a stock ROM from here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Or, you can use Kies to download and install the most recent firmware for your phone.
TowelRoot is a new option for rooting stock ROMs that are version 4.4.2 (KitKat). This method of rooting doesn't trip the Knox flag.

Thanks for replying however, you do not flash custom ROMs via Odin, you need a custom recovery like twrp or cwm.. Stock firmware you do flash via Odin.. And their Knox flag is already tripped, wouldn't matter

Thanks for correcting me that most of the time you flash Custom ROMs via a Custom Recovery on the S4.
But, if I'm not mistaken you can flash Custom ROMs via ODIN as long as in the right format and you select the correct partition.
However, most of my Custom ROM history is with a HTC device, so I may be mistaken.

It is possible but 99% of custom ROMs are not made to be flashed with Odin, in the past two years I've only seen about 1. And it is also inconvenient
Confused about rooting with T999UVUEOH1
ok
If the phone is running a stock 4.3 Samsung ROM, the phone will have knox. Best thing to do would be to run OTA updates until the phone is running the latest ROM. This will ensure that the phone has the most recent bootloader and modem.
Once updated, you can easily root the phone by flash TWRP for the d2tmo via Odin. After installing TWRP, you can flash supersu 2.45 or 2.46 via TWRP and have root access.
Note that flashing TWRP will trip the knox counter.
Ok
The method I recommended should not cause any loss of data. To be safe, always backup before flashing anything.
Is there any warranty left on the phone? If not, tripping knox isn't going to matter.
Any attempts to downgrade the bootloader may result in a bricked phone.
Looks like the root66 method involves flashing a prerooted stock ROM. If you want to try the root66 method, just make sure the root66 ROM's bootloader and modem are the same or newer than the phone's version. If the phone has oh1, I would not use the root66 method.
Ok
Flashing TWRP and supersu from TWRP is the easiest in my opinion.
Just make sure to get the tar version of TWRP to flash in Odin.

Nahh!! The easiest way is use TowelRoot
Only need to press a button! I'm using that firmware so I CONFIRM that it's working
I guess it depends on the rom. It wouldn't work on stock 4.4.2 for me.
The kernel was patched against Towelroot in 4.4.2. We were never updated past 4.3 so it should work fine.

Hi guys.
I'm wondering, if I flash stock ROM to my note via Odin, do I need to re-root ?
And only recovery is back to stock one right?
Thanks!
Yes you will need to re-root. But it's really very easy. Just flash TWRP after stock ROM and then install SuperSU.zip.
Depending on the phone model and stock ROM version, you may be able to root by using cfautoroot and Odin.

No. But you can use eclipse (flash via TWRP) if you want the feeling of stock ROM.
Sorry guys guys for late reply.
I was using Kingroot before but I cant run flux or cf lumen using with its root access.
I tried using the CF autoroot, flash using odin, its all good no error and "Passed".
After rebooted, I try to run the SU and get this error:
"there is no su binary installed and supersu cannot install it. this is a problem"
I then installed latest TWRP using odin and installed latest SU using recovery but the error still persist.
What should I do? Thanks!

I have always had success with cfautoroot.
Just double-check to make sure you used the correct version of cfautoroot, Odin 3.07, and the original Samsung USB cable.
Did you flash a stock ROM after kingroot failed? If not, this may be why cfautoroot didn't work.
