I have an AT&T Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4.2. I used Towelroot to root my phone and it worked really well. My only concern is about which ROMs to use. It looks like most ROMs for the S3 are for android 4.3 and not what I have. Since I used a root technique for an S4 does that mean I should use ROMs from the Galaxy S4 4.4.2?
Any information would be great. I do not want to brick my phone!
NO. You must stay within the roms for your device. Flashing anything else is highly likely to give you a brick.
You have already started out on the wrong foot; these forums are for the Sprint S3, not the AT&T variant. Look for your device forum and you can flash any rom listed, regardless of whether the rom is 4.3 or 4.4.2 based

Hey guys,
I am thinking to try paranoidkangdroid 4.2.2 ROM for galaxy s3 AT&T. but my phone is still running 4.1.1 and there is no update for the at&t yet for 4.2.
I searched whether 4.2.2 rom will work for at&t or not and got the ans saying NO but there will be soon.
so if they release that and if my phone is still running 4.1.1 will i still be able to install the 4.2.2 rom in my phone?
i tried finding the requirments but couldn't find one.
thank you.

Anyways as a matter of fact, all Custom ROMs for AT&T Galaxy SIII is in the Development section here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1705
I'm still not sure whether you need official Samsung/AT&T update to 4.2.2 in order to try custom ROMs. Anyways I'll flag the Moderator to move this Thread to AT&T Galaxy SIII section, so that people using this device can give you a better suggestion.

Your stock firmware doesn't really affect what you have to do with flashing a new ROM. I have the i747 as well (on 4.1.1 stock) and i flashed Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightlies (4.2.2) pretty easily. You don't need to worry about what you have right now. Just make sure you back up the ROM and follow all the procedures for installing a new one.
BTW AT&T (or Samsung for all that matters) probably won't release 4.2 at all. It's only out for the Nexus devices at the moment. The only way is to flash a new ROM right now.
and yes, you WILL be able to install 4.2.2, even if you're running 4.1.1 on your stock firmware. (Just make sure to backup in case anything goes wrong!) Your new ROM is not dependent on your old one
here's the thing
4.1.2 came out for S3 international ~4 months ago, U.S S3 yet have yet to have it
and there's no real date when they'll even release 4.1.2
so how long do you think we'll able to get an official version of 4.2.1? and then 4.2.2?

4.1.2 began slowly rolling out barely 3 months ago on the international variant. one of the features is the multi-view. as has been covered already, this affects the US variants as we have dual core phones vs the i9300s quad. we wont see a 4.1.2 firmware release.
i dont see any real carrier-published updates for the US models until the release of the s4

actually there will be 4.1.2 for U.S s3
it's just some features that you saw on international (multi-view, etc..) won't be there for us

So then it's not the same 4.1.2 release as people have been inquiring about. And I still say the US S3 won't see a major update until the S4

As the title states, I just picked up a AT&T galaxy S3. I am looking to use it on T-Mobile. Coming from a galaxy S1, the unlocking procedure is a bit different. It also seems that roms are fairly brand specific, so I assume I should be looking for i747 roms. There are so many options out there, could anyone point me in the right direction to get this phone up and running? Are there any special considerations I should be taking since I am using an AT&T phone on T-Mobile?

Before you do anything, if you want to unlock you phone so you can use it on another network go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033225&highlight=sim+unlock
You will probably need to change the apn numbers to match t-mobile which is easy.... as far as roms go, you should do some searching for t-moible roms in the development thread. Also not being familiar with AT&T and T-mobile you should check to see if they use the same band and also check which modem (radio) you need... I am sure there have been lots of people that have done this arleady.... search search search at least you asked the question before you started not after you had a wreck
Thanks for the link. I did the unlock procedure, haven't tested it yet since I still need to cut down my SIM card.
I also went through and did the CF-Root procedure with ODIN. So theoretically the phone should be ready to flash a custom rom.
I was under the impression that I should be looking at i747 roms instead of the T-mobile version (i999?) since my device is originally AT&T branded. You are saying this is not the case? Basically I should look at roms in the T-Mobile section? It might not matter anyway since some popular roms run on both.
UPDATE:
I installed Stockorama V2 on the phone and it is up and running on t-mobile. It is a multi-carrier rom, but I used the AT&T options when installing. Would I have better luck installing it as T-Mobile? Basically, can I install a T999 rom/kernel on a i747?

Do you have a custom recovery on your phone? You can flash any custom ROM as long as the ROM is compatible with your bootloader, modem, and does not alter your existing bootloader. You can only use ROMs that are designed for the d2lte.
Has anyone made any strides in a rom specifically for the SCH-R890 variant of the S4 Mini?
I've combed the internet and found nothing but roms for the international and sprint variants.
My stupid self lost my mobile network on my phone due to flashing a rom made for the i195 version since the root for that one worked I figured the rom would too.
I feel like until theres a rom just for this version my phone is worthless.
edit: seems my phone is serranolteusc and i flashed a serranoltexx rom, serrano3gxx roms do not work at all.
still working on a fix for all of this, ive probably put a combined 18 hours into this so far
Hello, name's Mike, have been in the android side for a while and it's my first time actually owning an US version of a phone, the N900T (T-Mobile Note 3) running 5.0 stock TW. (I don't live in the US)
So please, enlighten me!
ROOT AND RECOVERY
I have tried to root it and did it successfully, however when I tried to get a custom recovery on it, I only got boot loops so far, tried various tutorials, none of them have yet worked out for me.
CUSTOM ROMS
Are there any current custom rom development for this phone? I've seen lots of KK roms but I was looking to get a stable lollipop AOSP like rom like CM12 but without crashes or battery drain. Does anyone know any good roms that are stable?
PORTING
Also! How do you port a N9005 rom to a 900T? I've seen some methods by flashing a BT+Wifi fix or something like that but it seems outdated and I don't want to brick my phone just yet.
Please, please help me out, I am really out of it. Used to Custom rom on a Huawei U8650, Galaxy S2 and on my G2, but this is harder due to it being a carrier phone.
Thanks for your comprehension.
Did you download the right TWRP? Get the tar file and odin it.

Did you check the N900T development forum? There is quite a few to select from. I.E. Slim

Sorry can't help you with porting.
