Battery life and graphics performance should be better on the Note 3 Neo as it only has a 720p screen as opposed to a 1080p screen. Same amount of RAM for both phones, but the Xperia will have more free RAM because of it's lighter UI. Sound is pretty poor on the Xperia because of the water resistance that it has. But the build quality and looks of the Xperia completely eclipses that of the Neo.

Go for Note 3 Neo

Ask your friend to go for Note 3 Neo.
Hexacore, very smooth performance.
If he roots the phone then you can freeze the bloat ware.
Tweak some settings and get more out of the phone.
RAM :- 600 MB to 700 MB (rooted) without root (800MB)
With root you can Greenify almost all applications.
Games - Excellent, I played subway surfers, Tennis 3D , both are pretty smooth , didn't have any unpleasant surprises.
Graphice are nice. May be someone who plays games frequently can shed more light on this.
Sound - Speakers is bit low for me compared to note 2. With good set of headphones - volume is fine.
Antutu benchmark came as 32k which is pretty good.
Battery life. : - Now this is where it is awesome. Compared to note 2 this was so much better. I got 7 days 9 hours with 6 hours battery life with rooting. Now I am testing without root also. And the results are very good.
The only thing that is bothering me is the rooting method using chainfire will trip the knox. And I am still searching for alternative rooting method.
Other than that mobile is worth 25 to 26k.
Cheers!

Knox is a security feature that Samsung has come up with to give headache to users like us starting with Android 4.3. For IT Administrators, Enterprise people it is handful.
But for people like us it is serious headache as it will hamper our chances to downgrade or upgrade at will once you choose to go to Kitkat firmware. And there is one more thing. Along with binary flash counter you have Knox counter too in the download mode. Knox is 0 to begin with. But if you choose to upgrade to firmware any thing other than Samsung firmware or choose to root your phone with chainfire method then knox will be tripped to 1. Even triangle Away trips the knox to 1. If that is tripped to 1 then it voids the warranty.
With Note 2 I faced this. I upgraded to custom kitkat firmware and Knox triggered to 1.
Even on Note 3 neo I used chainfire method to root and it was triggered to 1.
Luckily I was able to get the replacement from flipkart as I complained them regarding screen issue I got lucky.
But I hope anyone new can take precaution and NOT root using chainfire method.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find alternative method to root my replacement phone
So yeah Knox is pain in the Head.
One more bad news is Google wants to implement this damn knox feature in upcoming Android L.
So if you want to upgrade your phone to Kitkat or any custom firmware please check if Knox is getting triggered. That is if you are under warranty.
But hey we got Xda developers. Developers here are brilliant and they can counter anything Samsung/Google comes up with.
Salute to their hardwork and brilliance. :good:
Regarding Mali T624 vs Adreno 320 I have read some posts online stating that it is slightly better. I will attach some screenshots for your reference. May be some serious gamers/experts can jump in to explain the comparison better but I haven't faced any heating issue even after continuous gaming.
you can check this site
One thing I can tell you, performance so far has been outstanding. It has exceeded my expectations and what reviews had to say.
Cheers!

No no it is not loss, it is just inconvenience.
If you have a Samsung phone which came with Knox enabled firmware and if you upgrade to any other custom firmware or root it using chain fire then you will trip Knox and Knox count will now be 1.
If Knox is 1 and if god forbid you got some hardware problem with your phone and you want to take it to Samsung service center for repair. Then they will refuse to do it. I came to know about this problem after reading many posts online in this site and also in other public sites. So as a customer we are at loss in terms of money and have to live with a defective phone.
Downgrading to older firmware will become tricky. Few people said they were able to downgrade but it is risky.
You never know things can go wrong.
Without Knox till Android 4.3 we were able to flash firmwares at will but now that is not easy any more.
Samsung made it very tough.
This is what I know so far and from my personal experience I can tell you it is a big headache dealing with Knox especially if you want to root your phone and flash any firmware you like.
Cheers!

meaning its your personal preference ... If you use it mainly for texting and web browsing and the occasional mod (like me) then its perfectly sufficient, but if you do lots of gaming then go for a better phone. Completely up to you, depends on how you're gonna use it.

I'm quite satisfied with the arc S after using Arconium ICS 5.0 and KTG anzu 1.52 kernel,
I suppose... unless you plan to unlock bootloader, the experience might not be as good, but you can always opt to stay in Gingerbread cause usually new phones are on Gingerbread.
Depends how long you will have the phone for?
One year, Yes I would have it for a year... The new phones coming out within the year look amazing...
Two years, No, Newer games won't support gingerbread forever...
But mostly, its personal preference.
i'm currently using arc s and i hope it lasts long for many years, i don't play games often

Up to 18 months of releasing a set they are bound to give updates! Do you know that?
Samsung is definitely better than other brands atm, hTC, Sony etc, for providing faster updates, but that's a different thing.

The difference here is that those operating systems are things you actually have to buy, whereas android is free.
But back on topic: OP you barely even given them time to react. It takes a while to develop these things, so they take at least a couple of months to release. I mean, look at the galaxy s2 and its ICS release, that was their flagship phone for a while and even on that it took months for ics to be released on it.

You surely know nothing about One Alliance protocol followed by all the companies who use Android OS for their cell.
Its a guideline stated by Google that OEM must support a device that they bring out for 18 months since the time of release.
Now this is a very good guideline as it helps us sort good brands from stupid brands..for eg- motorola
Also google cant force any company to release updates. The company is at fault if it doesnt and they are responsible for getting a bad name then.

As a user who uses both Apple and Android (Samsung) devices, I find that this is still quite a major flaw for android phone manufacturers. My father still uses an iPhone 3GS and that is still receiving updates from Apple, nearly 4 years since it was released.
This is the first time i've heard of the "One Alliance protocol" so hopefully it's a step in the right direction.
Other than that, I'm sure users of older phones can hopefully flash custom roms of higher OS releases for their phone.
Sorry if i sound like a noob
4.2 was released 3+ months back. Currently my nexus 7 is running on 4.2.1 and this week would be 4.2.2 . Now then why is wrong to ask a question that samsung has not been keen on releasing 4.2 updates instead of stupid increments on 4.1.x which have been a major letdown.
Battery life has gone down from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 while i was expecting the opposite. 4.2 has much more refined codebase for battery and performance.
Now am I being unreasonable for asking the question?
Who would buy the s4 if note 2 had 4.2.2 already
They would update the note 2 two months after they sell 20 million s4
If you want 4.2 for the dash clock ... flash aokp or Cyanogenmod rom

Android OS upgrades are completely unrelated to what you just described about Windows. I purchase my windows and get updates free of charge throughout its product life cycle which stretches to even a decade. Going back to topic its Samsungs obligation to support its devices sold and keep them up to date atleast while the phone is relatively recent. Its what consumers want its why most people buy the latest phones. I bought my note 2 not because of its hardware alone, let alone its cheap build quality, but also because i expect to get the latest updates soon and not when its outdated.
Sent from the rabbit hole.
I have 4.2.2 now what are you talking about?

Samsung Galaxy W I8150 vs Galaxy S Advance I9070

Hi,
I am a fully satisfied Galaxy Wonder I8150 user, however - since I found an offer for the Galaxy S Advance I9070 for about 200€ - I am thinking about changing my phone.
Is there anyone who also has the I9070 and can give me any suggestion?
I am a bit worried about development: since our beloved I8150 is much more widespread, there's a lot more here than for the I9070, but it's just probably a matter of time... hopefully!
Opinions and discussions are more than welcome, thank you very much.
I have a friend who uses I9010. Although it is good from spec, and bigger screen.. But well, XDA has only few devs. Seems it is a bit minus points since many of 'em were stock-modded.
€200 off-contract? Cheap..

I don't understand what you mean by "seems it is a bit minus points since many of them were stock-modded", may you please clarify that?
Re the price: 200€ off-contract, yes.
I've been watching this phone since last year and the best offers I found were 250€ at the end of November 2012, 230€ now in most of the shops. A local supermarket is going to sell it for 200€ in the next days.
So the price doesn't go down fast, but slowly it does!

Many of those ROMs were not pure AOSP/CM-based and just stock, with some mods/changes, so maybe you may expect 'bloatwares', including that useless apps etc. Well there is actually CM10.1 but it is not that reliable since mostly it is for hi-level devs (as you can see there are many bugs there including the Phone.apk (that is for the calls) so it is impossible to make calls), the BT, the Wi-Fi if I'm not mistaken. But well if you can stand that it's yours.
Also, I think the newest S4 will fit. Well its announcement is still on March 14th (15th GMT+7, if it is announced at evening in NY). And I don't think if the price would be another 200 Euros off-contract.
Again, it is your privilege to buy a new phone and leave the other. So, choose it wisely.
Maybe you can post this question to the S Advance forum so that the user of that phone can share their experience with you

I see, thanks for the info.
Well, surely CM10.0 is not usable at this development stage... but it will probably in the future, hopefully soon!
From what you write, I got the impression that Galaxy S Advance does not (and will not?) have so much development/ROMs/etc. as for our beloved Wonder...

Thanks for your suggestion, I did that already, just trying to get as much feedback as possible from both Galaxy W and S users.

Hi,
I am a fully satisfied Galaxy Wonder I8150 user, however - since I found an offer for the Galaxy S Advance I9070 for about 200€ - I am thinking about changing my phone.

Anyway a bugged cm is long way better than a stock Samsung rom. When you install a cm rom is like buying a new phone. Maybe w with cm is better than s stock...

actually I would recommend you to buy S advance.
with the JB update, the phone is really smooth even without any custom rom or tweak.
But the only big problem is there is not much special tweaks and custom rom available for S advance. So when you are bored of stock S advance, there's nothing you can do unlike our lovely W with so many awesome devs.
Both phones have their own pros and cons. It's up to you.
Samsung Galaxy W Vs Samsung Galaxy S Advance = DRAW :highfive:
I do not know anything about s advance but i'm so in love at first sight with my wonder. Surely Wonder has a lot more mods, roms, etc. available.
However, I also had a chance to try the S Advance and I must say it's much more comfortable just for the slightly bigger screen. The keyboard is easier, and the GPS works perfectly in Advance whereas in my Wonder takes ages to get the fix or loses it every minute....
All in all, if I had to buy a new phone, between the 2 I'd go for the Advance I think.
I choose wonder because wonder is my device

[Q]Worth unlocking bootload?

I am bored of MIUI 4 and current JB release for LB and was thinking whether it is really worth it. Do you get significant boost, bug free rom? As it voids the warrenty and sony gets a record of your phone or does relocking fixes it? Also what kind of warrenty is void? hardware/software/body?

Now 4.3 is already old. Discussion about 4.4

As we can see, Many manufacturers like Samsung, HTC have already updated their flagship with 4.3 which is we are yet to receive. HTC already announced 4.4 will be available in 90 days that's by Jan end. Can we expect it any sooner

4.4? Hardly likely. There'll be a 4.3, I'm sure, but I don't believe there's going to be a 4.4. The Z1 and, possibly, the Z Ultra, being the latest flagships, I feel, would be the only candidates for it.

From 4.2 to 4.3 officially there is no difference except for smoothness, and richer use gpu. As far as 4.4, wise battery usage, full screen mode in apps, richer gpu, better integration of hangout, well memory management. I don think Sony would give up on their phones in just 8 months.

Hi.
This may help people understand why the updates take so long:
www.developer.sonymobile.com/2013/0...-process-and-its-improvements-for-android-4-3
Btw, does the ZL still gets warm easily, like from 23°C to 44° C (73 F / 111 F), while playing games (NFS MW, or other "heavy tasks") on 4.2.2? (Mine is running 4.1.2)
It's quite annoying :/ I've heard the Media Server battery leak has been corrected, at least. Heard nothing about the warming problem.
I'm quite sure 4.4 will be available for the Z series. Isn't it supposed to be optimized to support even 512MB RAM devices?

Thanks for your reply. Can you specify if your ZL really getting hot is on 4.2.2? Have you tried any 4.3 based ROM?
Is there any? I'm about to update from 4.1.2 and I'm wondering if this warming issue is still there :/
Seems like the waiting is too long for some. Ha.
4.4 will be here for the ZL as Sony wants to get its goal to be the third biggest smartphone maker, if it wants it,
it needs to support its devices.
But, can we just have a bug-free Jelly Bean mean while? Dang. Any custom 4.2.2 ROM?
The new features of Kit Kat are really appealing, several of them, actually n.n

4.2.2 stock rom is not bad except that heating issue. Update is really improved performance. and for 4.3 you can try cm Rom for which you have to unlock bootloader. So I have not tried any. As per recent tweets 4.3 and 4.4 news will out this week. I don see any problem updating to 4.2.2. If you don't like it you can flash back previous Rom.

Thanks! I'll update to 4.2.2 in some hours... It's 4:15 AM here in Peru n.n How bad the heating issue is still present.
I may try a 4.3 ROM so I can see if it's fixed :/ It's possible to relock the bootloader. Don't want to try?
Yeah, some more days and well have news about 4.3 and 4.4. I hope Sony gives us dates for the oficial 4.3 updates and
positive news for us about 4.4. I've never been the updates fan, my Xperia Pro never got to ICS... It's running so nicely with GB til now.
But 4.4 does have several interesting improvements. Maybe I can update it to 4.4!
Does anyone know what does it take for a device to be suitable for 4.4 update?
As there has been words about 4.4 for older devices.
Maybe it's too son to ask n.n

What heat issue? 44c is pretty normal...
You're running a game on 1920x1080 without any active cooling in a closed device.
Heck the next gen consoles can't even run 1920x1080 on their platform.

It's an issue because not ALL (not even many) other smartphones like this one (full HD, no active cooling) have this heating problem.
Does the Galaxy S4 heats like this? Does the Xperia Z1, maybe?
I know the processor and GPU are working and are making use of energy thus some heat is normal,
but that the device goes from iddle 23° C to 37 and 44° C after not 20 minutes of playing is definitely an issue.
It even gets warm when browsing (Dolphin). This is annoying. Other than that, the device is excelent.
My Razr i only rarely used to get this hot! Actually, I can remember only 2 times when it got to 44° C
and I think it was because of a bug caused by Fuit Ninja, cause in 5 months of playing and using it dialy it never got hot
like the ZL on 4.1.2 and the latest 2.67 build. (As said coolrevi).
I used to use the Razr i proportionally the same as I use the ZL. So, no, it definitely something to look into. I hope official 4.3
and later 4.4 have this problem solved. Or, I don't know, maybe I have a defective unit!

Although I'm more a fan of stock/official ROMs, I'm about to flash this one

You must know it. It combines cm10.1, AOKP and AOSPA.
I'm going to try it as I read it's stable and good enough!

Reply: Been using this as my daily driver since the day I bought my phone. Works exactly as you would expect.
IR doesn't work on any custom rom so far and you'd have to use something like titanium backup to move apps to SD.

Have you tried DIRECTORY BIND in your ZL?
I don't have an SD card in the moment so I can't test, anyone
knows if Directory Bind works for the ZL in 4.1 or 4.2? Mine is running stock 4.2.
Let's go to the Sony Twitter acc and news room to ask for this feature in 4.3 and 4.4!

Pd: Looks like battery is draining in no more than 10 hours of moderate to constant
usage, no gaming, all staminas on and screen brightness at 15%.
Is this normal for 4.2 in the ZL or should I perform a factory reset
cause I didn't do it when I flashed stock 4.2 on my carrier's 4.1... Sorry for the of topic. I'm on the go!
