Microphone volume low in apps like Snapchat? - HTC One X

Hey Guys,
This seems to be a common issue across the board for all HTC One X users. Some apps such as Snapchat and Facebook, record video with really low volume audio on the HTC One X. Some have suggested it may be because of the multiple microphone's in the HTC One X (for noise cancelling or something?), and that these apps might be defaulting to the wrong microphone stream.
I've found many threads and the like around the internet, but no one has a fix. Apparently Instagram and other apps suffer from the same problem. It's quite frustrating as video is pretty useless without audio. The built-in apps of course don't suffer from this issue. I'm sure someone can find a fix, like disabling one of the microphone devices (my phone is root'ed).
I plan to get the Nexus 6 when it comes out, but in the mean time, I'd really like to get this thing fixed!
Cheers

[Q] HTC One X sound bug - A "Click" when sound starts/ends

Hello,
I just got my HTC One X a few days ago (white, o2-branded) and it has a quite annoying bug:
Everytime a sound (no matter if music, a game or just the volume adjustment sound) starts or ends, the phone makes a "clicking" sound. It sounds a bit like a camera shutter.
Hear for yourself:
(had to break up link because this is my first post, just remove the spaces)
youtu. be/thTyeud5foc
I contacted HTC's support and they told me it wasn't reported before and I should take my phone back to the store I bought it from.
Now my question:
- Has anyone else reported or read about that bug? Goggle couldn't tell me.
- o2 didn't deliver the 1.28 Update yet. Could it be a software problem? I remember some custom DHD kernels having similar issues. So should I just wait for the update?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Phil

It happens with poweramp ... When you open it !
Sent from my HTC One X
I don't have poweramp installed...
On my phone, it happens whenever a sound starts/ends, no matter which app it is
Update:
It seems equalizer (an app I installed) is causing it. I didn't realize I had installed it, it was auto-restored by google when I got my new phone. As soon as I deinstalled it and rebooted the phone, the problem was gone. That's sad, because I don't like beats audio but want to be able to slightly increase the bass for some songs.
Anyone know another good equalizer app, preferrably with preset-widget-buttons on homescreen?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
i have the same, sounds like the camera lense is tapping the plastic
Check if you have Any app installed that alters your Sound, like equalizer, poweramp or similar. For me the clicking went away after I deinstalled and restarted the phone. You should probably untick quickstart before restarting.
It can be caused by DSPManager, disable all the tweaks for the speaker and reboot, works a treat.

Also can be caused by the virtual room settings, I would leave that disabled too.

I have the same issue. Stock phone, no root, Tmobile.
Hey guys
I picked up a One X on T-Mobile UK the other day (stock, not rooted yet) and I get exactly the same thing. I've only noticed it when playing music through Play Music (sideloaded the app via an apk found here), but now I'm going to look out for it when playing videos.
Given the comments made about poweramp and other equalisers, I suspect that it's something to do with the Beats Audio gubbins that comes pre-installed. So much for "studio quality sound", eh?
Hi,
mine issue is somehow close to yours.
When I connect my HOX to external speakers there is some sound like click which is heard every time s sound is produced by the phone. This click i hear in the beginning and the end of the original sound (music, notification, etc.). It's quite annoying as long as the overall sound quality of the phone is satisfying to me.
Also I dont have none apps affecting audio quality. Only the stock player + sound cloud + pocket casts.

I'm having a similar problem to others in this thread. I haven't installed any sound-altering apps, and no other adjustments have been made, yet whenever a sound plays a slight audio click follows... If anyone has an idea of how to solve this, I'd be very grateful. I'm on T-Mobile. Thanks!

I see on the FAQ that I should "disable any audio effects/audio DSPs to reduce the vibrations of the DAC"...
How do I do this, please? And is this only relevant if you've activated effects already? Thanks.
Is this problem still ongoing for most?
I got this phone for my cuz. When i tested the camera i heard the sound and thought was a camera thing and could be off if the camera shutter sound was disabled
after handing over the phone to him he says he still hears the sound whenever he plays any kind of audio
It was a stock phone from Verizon so I can't tell if any other apps were installed
I'll check and follow the instructions here then let you guys know.
If I find anything else that i can share to help out will also share that
G
That click sound is because of our ****ty DAC ... So if you want to have bad sound quality for example uninstall all equalizer apps...if you want to have better, then keep it and live with it that it will click sometimes...after a while it should disappear

Ok cool ONEX Master I'll see if it does go away.
Thought it was in fact a hardware issue.
Cause right now out of the country and have no simple way of just returning it.
Will upgrading the ROM or rooting and changing the ROM help?

it won't help normally as most EQ/DSP are producing this sound...it's because the DAC is forced to end sound so it will produce that click sound, but after a while it should be gone

Click during Youtube with handsfree speaker

Hi guys,
i've installed OTA 1.29.401.11 on my HTC One X but now, during reproduction of a youtube video, i hear many "clicks"...it seem like the very old cd burners when they aren't capable to extract the tracks.
Someone has the same problem?
Thanks
Exactly the same happen to me!
Sounds good to me that the problem isn't only mine.
I don't know if the issue depends on the last OTA.
I had this once and rebooting the phone cured it. It affected all audio for me including videos in the gallery
Don't have that problem. But a reboot of the phone might help or check if the youtube application needs an update...
do you have the same problem when using a headset?
I thought it's somehow related to the YT app itself. It's the only one I'm getting these audio clicks and stutters in. The problem gets especially crazy I have Audio FX Widget turned on (absolutely no problem in any other apps that play audio).

Youtube Ticking Sound

Hi,
I have 2 HOX, one for me and one for my girlfriend.
When she listen to YouTube she have weird "ticking" sound which drive us crazy.
ITs mainly while using the speaker.
I've searched and some people suggested restart, is that really that bad design by HTC ?
Yes this is a very well known issue unfortunately, also happens during listening to music too; speakers or aux-out to car.
Youtube is more likely however "cropping" while mp3 is during data state change from 3G to H, which does happen just all the time.
Really annoying.. One fella said that he got rid of it with JB update so I'm waiting. Otherwise, to service. its just not bearable

Quiet microphone in Snapchat

Hi there
When recording videos with Snapchat, the sound is way too quiet. When using other apps like voice recorder or the camera app, it works fine. I also recently replaced the battery cover
I suspect the issue is something regarding which microphone Snapchat uses. Maybe the the mic doesn't function properly without the noice cancellation mic, which Snapchat may not utilise etc.
Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone know how to fix it?
heres some more info on the problem: snapchat only records audio with the top mic on this phone, which is probably supposed to be used for noise cancellation. this issue is not apparent in all non-sense roms, like cm10.2 and aosp based romps; the mouthpiece mic is used to record audio so the audio works fine. but then in custom roms the camera profile is different, so it is not possible to record 10 second videos in snapchat. it stop recording at about 6 seconds. heres more info on the 2nd issue: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-2343.
Thanks

Heey .. I've the same problem with my HTC ONE X ... this is what I dislike about Android in general, each phone has its own running kinda system, yet all android apps are the same in every device despite the differences.

Unless you own a Nexus, GPe, or soon a "Silver" certified device. Something maybe to consider when purchasing my next phone

Random issues with my pixel 2 xl

I have had a pixel 2 xl for awhile now (Verizon version sadly) and have had very few big issues with it but lately there have been things that have been bothering me.
One issue is that applications like YouTube, Amazon music, and even my e book reader I use to listen to audio books will randomly pause for no apparent reason.
Another thing that has been happening to me recently is that when watching videos or listening to music my volume will sound significantly lower itself and sound muffled. As far as I can see there is no visual indicator the volume is lowering. Then after a couple of seconds or two it will go back to normal.
The only other issue is that it doesn't connect very well to my PC. I have used several cables and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Not sure how a Google phone can have issues like these.
I thought they would be sending out updates to fix these types of issues, but since they haven't and seem incompetent when you ask them about issues like these, I figured I would ask you amazing people.
Thanks in advance for the help!
My sound was going way low while listening to podcast - I noticed that do not disturb was on - perhaps it lowers the sound of what you're listening to in order to alert you during do not disturb?
Hmm I'm not too sure I usually keep it on vibrate but I don't think it's ever on do not disturb but I will be sure to check next time. I'm probably going to factory reset to see if it clears up any of the issues.
