1) it only works for English US at the moment
2) its on a slow roll out, having the correct up-to-date apps is not good enough, Google have to have selected you to have the feature.
If I didn't get it wrong, LGs own search function is killing that feature in G3, so "Ok Google" works just in case Google search is active in foreground.

"of the launcher" is not what the OP was asking. The new Google update allows for "OK GOOGLE" to be used from any app, anywhere on the device.

ok so this is awkward.... seems google has released the new Google Search and Google Experience Launcher for all handsets running 4.1 and higher..... with Google ripping the forefront of KitKat out why move to it?
Lets get a list going as to what KitKat brings to the table behind the scenes....
1)better memory managment
2)Smoother UI experience(butter+)
3)built in printer support API!!! I love printing from my phone now!
For those that want to try the new Search and Google Experience Launcher here are the links.
Download Google Search 3.1.8 APK
Download Google Experience Launcher APK
yes this turns on "Ok Google" from the launcher and also allows Google Search to talk/ask questions back to you.
I still think we need KitKat as I have been running it and it is very smooth and seems to be snappier than the stock rom.
FYI the launcher will NOT work on our stock roms!!!
It is working on other phones with 4.1 but not our phone and stock rom(with stock kernel). You can use some modded 4.1 stock roms that replace the kernel. As I believe it is a kernel based issue there will likely never be a fix as no-one is going to put in the time or effort.
Well, the Launcher still needs to be side loaded even after the Search App updates, so it is a little different there. I like having hangouts handle sms. I also like the little things like the touch sounds and such. All of these things can be emulated, but it still takes work and a little knowledge to get a kit kat experience on a different stock rom.

This is true but the launcher will be on the play store and it has been reported that a card in now will popup asking if you want it.
For a stock rom you get the stability over most other roms but I must say KK on ours has been a really big surprise.
I sideloaded the new now on KK and the feedback is pretty sweet, no more hunting to find the right number to txt or call it will ask you and you simply talk back.
For me it's all about consistency in the experience. It drives me crazy to see a stock dialer or stock messaging app when I am trying to create an AOSP experience. That's why I generally go for AOSP based ROMS. It's just jarring to have the settings menu come up with a white background. OCD

Were you (or anybody) able to get this to work properly on ZVC? Tried the above, plus looking to get a potential lib, keep getting "Google Search" FC.

opppsss forgot to add that blurb. The launcher doesn't work on the LG OG stock roms. other 4.1 roms do work so it has something to do with the stock rom.
I'll add that in. The new Google search(Google Now) should be fine.
OP updated!!!!
Launcher didn't work for me on optimus 4.6 the OK Google feature worked but when I tried to add the search widget, OK Google went away. I don't know how to get it back yet either
Edit: turns out it went away cause I switched the language. OK Google command now works again

Just seen that there is an update for the english language pack that needs to be installed.
slid left to Google Now
scroll to the bottom
hit the three dots
select settings
select voice
select offline speech recognition
for those in the US ensure that English shows up and it is vers 28. For all others ensure you have downloaded your language.
BTW KitKat ROM users... this is NOT for you as it is all setup!

Here is a quick tutorial:
I get an error trying to install this over the stock google keyboard.
Try this.
This is the one which was available in Google Play Store, but was removed...
You don't need to uninstall stock keyboard, just install it as another app...
The guy who posted it on the google play store who got it removed because it was the actual stock android L keyboard and thats not allowed, posted it on amazon's app store. This one can be alongside the google keyboard with no problem.

I've been facing some problems using that keyboard since 3 days ago (before that it worked flawlessly.) Every time I press on a text field the Google Voice Input screen appears. I had to uninstall it so I could use the normal keyboard.

That maybe an issue with your rom... then again I don't really know. I have never had issues so I can't really tell you.

Hi, my one m9 is 2.7 weeks old , I setup a lockscreen password and then smartlock , I realised that on body detection is missing .
I waited , just because play services might update itself,
but nothing happened.
HTC one m9 should support it as it has an accelerometer
Tell me what the problem is , is it that I'm using a topic old version of play services , if that's the case , could you advice me as to which one should I install . My current play services version is : 7.0.99(1809214-448)
Just for the info ,my one m7 has on body detection
Thanks in advance ,
sishirbaid
EDIT
it now works!
all you need to do is update google play services to :- Google Play services 7.3.29 (1866531-448)

i think its there.. (it is on mine)
based on this article
http://www.androidcentral.com/smart-lock-body-detection-now-rolling-out-lollipop-devices
under Settings/Security (set a lock type first) then under trusted agents select Smart Lock
I had it on my m8 with 5.0.1 sense 6 but not on my m9. Used it well. Need it back. ?

I can confirm that the feature is on the M8 but not the M9. It was a useful feature.

Weird. I don't have it on my M9 but you do? I had it on my Nexus 5 but I think I assumed it came with 5.1 because they happened at the same time.
HTC support informed me that the developers decided to disable it in Sense 7. No information available on whether it will return with a future update.

well, that cant be true AS on- body-detection is a part of google play services , htc cannot modify google play services. well , the innitial release of play service which shipped with our phones could have been modified but i tried installing the exact same version from apkmirror and it still lacked the feature
so it certainly is not blocked by htc. idk what the real problem is , i hope someone gets it quickly, im dying to use it again. :crying:

It may be part of Google Play Services, but might Google provide a facility for Sense to disable it? HTC Sense skins the Android settings, so perhaps they just didn't give users a means to enable it. I'm not an Android developer though. Is this possible? I don't know which I'd rather have control here. With some things, Google is responsive and fixes issues quickly. With other critical issues, they are still present 6 months after being reported!

A new version of google play services is rolling out . Let's wait and see what that one does for our phones.
It is version 7.3 and our device specific IE 448 isn't yet available on apkmirror , will post as to what it does in reguard to on body detection .
NOTE do not install just any version of play services on your device . Install only the following
X.xxx(xxxxxxxxxx-448)
Working NOW
okay, i can confirm, on-body detection is working with the newest play services. namely 7.3.29 (1866531-448)
ill post a link to the file in the original post
So Google rolled out the Google Assistant feature for our HTC 10, and I've got to be honest, I don't particularly care for it, seems to have less functionality compared to Now On Tap.
Anybody else have any opinions or commentary regarding the new Assistant rollout or know how to switch back to Now On Tap?
Cheers

If the Now On Tap you're referring to is the old function (press and hold then Google page pops up) then that's what i want
Sent from my HTC_M10h using Tapatalk
I like the new one better. never used old one much to be honest. new one seems to do more though, on the old one when I told it to open a app or something else, most the time it would just bring up google search. assistant actually will open and close the app.
I think you can go back by uninstalling google update?
There's a build.prop option you can change to revert to Now on tap...
ro.opa.eligible_device=true (Change to false to disable Google assistant)

You might be thinking of the previous Google Now, like back in the KK days?
I use Nova Launcher, and I custom mapped a swipe up gesture on the homescreen to pull up Google Now. Seems to be an easy workaround for the functionality in the "good old days" lol.

It may take me some getting used to. My biggest criticism, is now having to talk to your phone "Siri style".
I personally found the contextual screen scanning function in Tap to be very useful, a major step forward, as opposed to now having to talk to, and ask your phone questions.

It was in the RR nougat rom I was using.
Used it for a while now too...
You could try adding that line to it in hopes that it still works.
If anything, try setting main language to English (US Virgin Islands)
Use flar2 button mapper and have both assistant and now on tap.
I would like to know if there's a way for us 10 users to get the U Ultra sense companion
I saw somewhere that soon it will be available, but dont know where....
I can't stand the assistant. I use google now all the time to search for things by typing them in. I'm also a big fan of the cards showing me weather, travel, sports, stocks and news all on one screen. The assistant that replaced it only allows you to interact with your voice, which is something I have zero interest in doing. The most I ever used the Now on tap voice controls was to set alarms or reminders.
I uninstalled all updates to the Google app and it returned to the classic Google Now functionality. If they ever try to force the assistant on me more than they already have I might seriously consider an iPhone.
I remember reading about Google enabling Lollipop devices to start using Google assistant but it's now mid January and my device still has bupkis! I have tried the unofficial ways to get it but they all fail on my stock, un-rooted T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I get the Google Assistant Launcher to install but after I do, a reminder it says device is not supported. I have the Play Services beta and Google Search Beta and still nothing, what the heck?
They recently updated Google to this crappy new style which removed the hamburger menu and puts everything on a disappearing bottom bar like iPhones, WTF?! Also it moves all personal items to this weird button that looks like a pimple art demo and the mail Google feed simply shows news? I would rather have my personal Google (scores, travel times, shipping info, etc) on my main page and click a button for the news.
Why does Google always fluck with sh!t? Does anyone know how to enable Google Assistant on the Note 3? Thanks in advance...
It's now almost April and still nothing? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance...
I've seen the app floating around the Play Store, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with Lollipop 5.0 since I'm running 8.1 via Lineage 15.1 (haggertk), but it's worth a try I guess.
Can't post a link as I'm still considered new despite being here for 4 going on 5 years now... RIP
