I am currently on stock unrooted 4.3 Canadian I747M (rooting it later on) and was wondering if I could flash any custom roms for e.g. PA, CM or Quantum? After rooting it of course. And if I could, I've read that having different bootloaders will brick the device so is there anything i'd have to do before flashing those roms?
Thank you.
Being on stock 4.3 you should be good to install any of the latest custom ROMs, as they all work on 4.3 bootloader/modem

I've been going all around the forum not being able to figure out what ROMS and kernels will work with T999v Wind version of the S3. I bricked my phone once already by installing the wrong kernel, so I don't wanna mess around again too much without knowing what roms and kernels are working. I've read around that we can flash T-mobile roms as long as they don't contain radio files. I also read on another thread that as long as the boot, modem and amss files aren't in the rom, we're good to go. Now I'm pretty new to the Android community so I'd like some help before I have another disaster on my hands.
Thanks.
*Disclaimer: I am not a Wind user so don't quote me on this but...
I don't believe any of the custom roms in the T Mobile dev forum come with radios. Except for the stock images made to flash with Odin. The main thing to remember as far as kernels go, if you flash a touchwiz rom you need a touchwiz (or stock) kernel. If you flash an AOSP rom you need an AOSP kernel or you will be stuck in a bootloop.
BTW, this rom has been confirmed working on Wind Mobile.
Thanks. Now I had a question about kernels. They still need to be for the T-Mobile version of the phone right? As long as that's true I shouldn't really have a problem using the kernel?

Yes, I believe you will be fine with any T Mobile specific kernels. Still, the important thing before flashing anything is to make sure you make a backup just in case.
That rom will work fine.

I'm on a Wind GS3 and I'm currently using FreeGS3 R5 with Trinity Alpha 19 kernel. Works great.
edit: Just updated to R6, still great.
guys i am a noob in android phones. i just want to clarify some things before proceeding of having a custom rom. my current gn2 version is android 4.1.1 and i want to install a custom rom (omega 8.0 preferably). what i want to clarify is that, should i update my version to 4.1.2 first before installing the custom rom or i can directly install it right away without updating my phone's version. thanks!
no, custom rods build upon themselves. they are their own update

I know there are a lot of threads already dedicated to firmware, bootloader, modems etc. I'm just confused since I see so many different ways to update. Some say just flash a certain rom, some say use odin, mobile odin. I am currently running an older CM10.1 nightly and I know that we need to update to the latest firmware to proceed with any CM10.1 or AOKP builds. My original bootloader is T999-UVDLJA, although I have flashed just about all the modems released. What is the best approach to getting everything updated so I can flash all AOKP / CM10.1 builds from here on out? Please be specific when explaining. I really appreciate any help. Thank you!

Don't need to update. But if you want to, flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282603
I have an AT&T Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4.2. I used Towelroot to root my phone and it worked really well. My only concern is about which ROMs to use. It looks like most ROMs for the S3 are for android 4.3 and not what I have. Since I used a root technique for an S4 does that mean I should use ROMs from the Galaxy S4 4.4.2 or try and find ROMs for the S3 4.4.2?
Any information would be great. I do not want to brick my phone!

Do you have a custom recovery on your phone? You can flash any custom ROM as long as the ROM is compatible with your bootloader, modem, and does not alter your existing bootloader. You can only use ROMs that are designed for the d2lte.
Hi,
Now I'm running stock v30c rooted by king root and hacer permissivo(one of the method available on xda). I've flashed twrp by autorec.
My question is:
Should I know something before flashing custom rom? I read somewhere that some of roms need v21c modem, and other have no information about it. But I'm not sure if I should flashing this.
Basically I'm thinking right now about custom stock based roms.
One more, I see that some roms supporting CTT(AFAIK it's something about keep the phone cooled, am I right?). Is it supported by every kernel? Including stock one?
I'm coming from G2 and there were quite easier with everything .
Thanks for every answer.

If you are planning to flash stock based roms you don't need to do anything else including flashing the baseband. Only aosp based roms need 21C baseband. So if you flash a aosp based rom remember to flash 21C along with it.
The ctt mod works on most kernels including stock but you don't necessarily need to use it until when you feel uncomfortable temperature.
