Stupid question time (sorry), but I may already know the answer!
I have CWN recovery installed, but a couple of Roms I fancy trying say they need TWRP. Is it as simple as copying TWRP zip to SD card and then flashing with CWM? Would this then remove CWN?
Thanks in advance
You are correct.
Thank you Sir (I did hit 'thanks' also!)

You don't flash TWRP or CWM via zips. They are img files. You either flash them via fastboot from PC or you can you use an app like flashify after putting the img file on your SD card. Once you flash either of them, the other one gets automatically replaced
Or install flash image gui.
Thanks to the both of you - going to try using flashify now

Hey guys
I wanted to update my rom before, never had any problems in the past. I have flashed many roms.
I flashed a new hboot (cm7r1, worked fine) but when i go to CWM to select the rom zip, no files are found.
I have re formatted my sd etc, the computer see's the zip file but the phone wont
Anyone?
Thanks
Do you search for zip via normal flash from SD card or via the update.zip-method?
Have you tried re-flashing CWM via ROM Manager ?

@OP: DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER! It's a horrible software which causes more problems than it solves.
A re-flash might help, but then do it via fastboot (according to your signature you are S-OFF, so you can use fastboot).
thanks guys
managed to sort it by wiping the sd through cwm
getting a new 16gb card today anyway
thanks for the help

Ok thank you for saving my phone is currently reading page which I wrote a very interesting
THANK YOU
I used TWRP and was good but now shifted to PhilZ and really like it so far.
I did read the "similar threads" and read them.
I am wondering If I wanted to replace TWRP with CWM what is the exact process. Also is there a way to have a dual recovery so you can choose which one you want to use?

You can over write TWRP with CWM by flashing CWM with ROM Manager. Or Terminal Emulator. You can not use 2 at the same time because recovery resides in a specific memory slot that can only contain 1. There is nothing stopping you from quickly flashing back to whichever recovery you want though. These instructions will show you a way to switch back and forth at will. It works for both TWRP and CWM. You just need the appropriate recovery.img. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170635
Thank you

This is exactly the information that I have been wondering. Thanks for the quick reply and link. Peace.:good:
Keep in mind that backups are specific to the recovery that they are done with. If you backup with CWM you must restore with it also. If your latest is with CWM and then you funk your phone up, TWRP will not help you restore unless you can find a flashable CWM.
Another option?

I keep flashing CWM with ROM Manager but TWRP still shows up on my Recovery, and i'm not confident enough to use the Terminal Emulator option. Is there another way to go?
Flash CWM from TWRP. Just make sure you find a version of CWM that is flashable.
Here is a link to the tar version of Philz that I use: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att

The terminal method is quite simple and a guarantee to work. You only have to type exactly what you see in the instruction. I understand you may be nervous about using codes to change the inner workings of the ROzm but believe me as long as you type it correctly its not possible for something to go wrong.
As the title said, I just flashed a custom rom into my device ( CM11 kitkat 4.4.2)
Its the first time i root and flash my device
So now, goo manager told me that there is an update available for my device, i follow the instruction of it by downloading it
after that it pop up saying that my device need to have an open script recovery, (I searched youtube, they usually use twrp to update the CM custom ROM), so press yes and it started to download + install
There's a small pop up that saying I have installed twrp on my device, but when i press on reboot into recovery, it shows CWM recovery, even I try reboot into recovery by using ROM Manger.
How do I solve this ?
I just want to install TWRP and uninstall CWM as they said TWRP works better with CM version ?
and one small question, can i delete the zip file that i use to flash the ROM in my external sdcard, and the zip file that i have to use to update after flashing them or updating them ?

Cause you need to reflash your recovery. If you downloaded a zip file boot in CWM and flash the recovery zip file.If you downloadeded .tar.md5 file you need to put your phone into download mode ,open odin on your laptop and flash the recovery file (you need to transfer the .tar.md5 file to your laptop).Well you shouldn't delete your current ROM zip file to be honest you should have atleast have one ROM zip file (with the appropriate add ons needed ) just incase you run into trouble you can always flash the ROM from scratch (incase you don't have a back up of it on your sd card) I always keep one touch wiz ROM and one CM11 ROM zip file along with zip files of philz touch and twrp recovery (i don't do nandroid backups-personal choice) on my sd card.

Correct, that's how one replaces their existing recovery with another recovery. At end of flashing the zip file ,go back to main menu and click on "reboot recovery" ,You'll see your new recovery

Thanks you really helped me a lot
sorry for late reply as my replies are limited because im just new to here
By the way, one more question is is there anyway i can flash back to my stock rom but remain rooted?
and what if i want to unroot it
because i found this ROM quite buggy as in the camera app, i am a person that will take picture everyday, panaroma is quite important to me
i found this camera is very very very poor haha
furthermore, whenever in a skype call, i will hear nothing if i plugged in my earphone o.o
so i will probably flash back to stock rom but remain rooted is case of flashing other more stable rom
SO... DO we want to flash stock lollipop and then flash custom roms... It is abselutely not needed now.

Btw will it wipe internal storage?
Does this zip comes with any 64bit recovery or do i need to go to fastboot mode & install 64bit recovery?
Is it compatible with philztouch recovery?
Also, what happens when this zip is flashed?
Before flashing a Rom & if i'm in recovery, will my internal memory be shown in PC when i connect yureka via data cable?(should i copy CM 12.x Rom to internal memory before flashing this zip? )
-Sorry for asking so many qt's all at once... But would appreciate if u can answer all of my queries to get rid of my worries
works like a charm, first boot on blisspop was really smooth, no lag and glitches like stock cm12....got blank screen when i tried to get into recovery(which was obvious) but from second boot, i was stuck on the YU boot logo....It was because of the 32bit recovery...flashed 64-bit CWM through fast boot and again i successfully booted
PS- It doesnt wipe your sdcard

Any 64 bit recovery will work. In my openion I recoment TWRP recovery. It is a touch recovery and has many options like file manager, backup compression etc.
Sorry for the late reply my school reopened so I didn't get any time to read this thread....
Anyway I am going to make an another zip file for flashing recovery within 2 days. Both 64 bit and 32bit....
Both TWRP and CWM.

So.... It does not wipe your SDCARD when following this method. Its safe. Only thing you have to do is flash 64 bit recovery.
Any way data backup is highly recommended. We ate playing with firmware know? Any thing can happen!

It actually has some of modem files, 64 bit partition details, fastboot(BIOS) for 64bit. You can go ahead and exact the zip file and read the script inside it. It does not have a 64bit recovery so you wold have to flash a recovery of your choice with fastboot. I hope you got your doubts cleared. If you have any further doubts feel free to reply:good:. i am planning to merge recovery flasher into this zip stay tuned!

Yes you can. If the ROMs rooted already then you can use the app Flashify to flash the recovery (I guess your phones booting up)
