I checked my stock 4.3 rooted AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 for an update in the settings and it said an update was available so I think it's the 4.4 KitKat update and so I downloaded the update and tried to install it but then it took me to a custom recovery mode and my friend told me I needed to get stock recovery / download mode for it to work so I flashed it on with ODIN and I checked and it worked. I then went back into the settings to check for an update and it said something like "Current software is up to date, you can check back in 23 hours and 21 minutes" and so I changed my time and date for tomorrow to bypass the wait and I downloaded the update OTA and while it was downloading I used Triangle Away to reset the binary counter back to 0 and then I tried to install it again and it seemed to be working fine and I got to an AT&T logo and a blue loading bar under it and next to that it said 5% so I went out of the room to let it load all the way and then when I came back I saw my phone rebooting and then everything was still the same when it rebooted so I checked the Current software in the settings and it still said 4.3 and I checked for an update too and it said "Install interrupted, try again in 48 hours" or something like that and so I changed my time and date to 2 days ahead and I am currently downloading it again. What should I do?
bump.
Where did you get the stock recovery? Were you unrooted before installing the update?

Well, I searched on Google for stock recovery and I found it, I would link it to you in the comments but I'm pretty sure it's against the rules. I was not unrooted and have no idea how to unroot my phone..
I don't believe its against the rules to link to anything
The update needs the stock recovery. Are you able to boot into stock recovery? Can you wipe data and cache in stock recovery?
I've run into the same problem. I'm running completely stock aside from being rooted, I unrooted my phone but it still wont take the update. It gets to about 28% then reboots and says that it failed. I'll probably just go ahead and put custom recovery on and not even worry about the update at this point.

I also made it only to around 27% and it reboots and fails, all this with root and stock recovery. I tried the OTA update with custom recovery from the settings and it just rebooted without even getting to the loading screen of AT&T.

Just so I wont break the rules if there is one about links like on many forums, I'll put the file here. Also, yes I did boot into stock recovery but I didn't try to wipe data and cache since, I'm not trying to delete my files.

I asked because I noticed that my ATT Atrix HD would not take the OTA update because I had removed some of the ATT bloatware. I flashed back to a completely stock rom on my Atrix HD and it took the update.

So i update to the new Evo update and i get stuck on a black screen with an android guy confused as hell with a triangle...whas mean?
what state was the phone in before u tried to update. was it rooted, custom recovery, completely stock?
...another victim.
You tried booting into recovery, but stock recovery is no recovery, marked by the triangle and red !. If you're still s-off, flash a recovery, CWM or amon_ra, then flash a rom.

That's stock recovery
I would say pull the battery and leave it for 10 minutes or so. Worked for me once in the past. Hope that helps. Good luck!
it was rooted with the newest (nightly) of CM7, i booted into clockwork mod recovery cause i wanted to switch to stock so i could recieve new update. so i cleared all my data then performed a recovery that put me to the stock ROM (rooted) then cleared phone again to have a total fresh install and then searched for the update and downloaded it and tried installing it but its all like, HEY YOU CANT DO THAT DLFJOEIFJDKFJDF. Boot into the bootloader, turn your phone off, while turning it on, hold the vol+down key till you see a white screen with androids skateboarding. At the top you'll see either s-on or off; If s-off, reflash a recovery via PC36IMG, then flash another rom.
okay, i am s-off so basically find a stock ROM flash it then check for the update?

No...the rooted stock OTA roms aren't out yet. Probably by the end of the day. Just flash a rom and just coast till now; like I said, virus should have it by the end of the day.
Okay, I mean my phone works and everything I'm just on the stock rooted ROM (previous to the newest 2.3) I'm just a little confused as to how its not letting me update, I thought the fact that i was rooted didn't really matter cause it would just unroot and wipe out everything.
Triangle Update Error
I am getting the same triangle update error. I have a rooted phone using unrevoked 3. My buddie has the same set up and we both are getting the error. We are trying to un-root our phones to a stock rom but neither of us can find one that removes unrevoked root. Can anyone help. I am a web/graphics computer guy. I don't know much about roms.
Thanks,
Nick

Well if you're on aosp, you can't update, you'd have to be on a sense rom. And you should never accept an OTA while rooted, as it can brick your phone, or permanently use root.
i am on a sense ROM its the stock ROM and i just ran unrevoked.
Short history:
About 3 weeks ago I rooted my GS3 and installed the Jelly Bean leak (the one that didnt' require firmware update). An intermittent problem I was having before flashing continued and got worse, so I decided to unroot so I can take the phone in and have them see what is wrong. I used this post to unroot and return to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
I confirmed that when I go into download mode it says I am running Samsung software and not custom.
So I haven't gotten in to the store yet, but I got prompted yesterday for the Jelly Bean OTA update. I tried to install it, but it fails during installation with several error lines:
Assert failed apply_patch_check libdivxdrm.so
Error in /cache/eec955eb4a5b.update_SPH-L710_LI3_to_LI7.zip
Status 7
I tried it several times, and no luck. Anyone run into this and have a solution? Does this meant that aside from the flash counter there is something else on my phone that indicates it was previously rooted?

From what I've read, status 7 is recovery having trouble reading the zip.
Have you confirmed you have stock recovery?
If so, maybe a bad download?

This has been discussed in my thread like 5 or 6 times. The official OTA wont flash. Use CWM/TWRP and flash the modded OTA i have here http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr...fficial_update(modified_CWM_or_TWRP_only).zip. Its exactly what sprint is pushin out with the checks removed so itll pass. If you want your count back at 0 then reflash the LI3 zip you have and immediately follow with the link above.

Would this have worked even though I am not rooted? I didn't realize I could change my recovery while unrooted.
Regardless, I was able to get it by using ODIN to flash the LEN OTA ROM, and then taking the updates one at a time as the system prompted me. It took about 20 minutes total to get each update and reboot until I was at LI3. I then flashed the LI3-> LJ7 successfully.

Yes it wouldve its the exact thing being pushed out by Sprint. I just changed it to remove all of the checks that cause it to fail. actually kind of surprised that you were able to do it like you did I tried the same thing recently and the update still failed on full stock unrooted while all the ota's from LEN to LI3 worked fine. i even checked in my li3 zip to see wat was causing the status 7. That libdivxdrm file was there I don't know why it was failing. Glad you got it updated anyway
So I rooted my Note II but I left the stock ROM on the phone, and AT&T just pushed a big OTA update. What steps do I need to be able to install an OTA update now? After a bit of research, it seems I need to unroot? I've just never had to do this before because I usually just use custom ROMs, but on the Note I wanted to leave the stock ROM in place.

I used MrRobinsons' root injected ROM which was UCAMA4 (I think) and left the recovery alone, used the root access app that I bought to keep root. I did not remove any AT&T apps and was able to update to UCAMC3 without any problems. And the app that I bought kept my root access.

Well -ALL- I did was root, install clockwork recovery, and Super SU. So I'm wondering what I need to do to be able to install an OTA update now, because I currently cannot.
It is my understanding that you must leave the recovery stock. I have also read that you must leave the AT&T apps in there but I am not sure about that. So if you want the update go back to stock then update then change your recovery.

Well it's been a while since I've messed with this, so I just need to find instructions on how to return to stock.
Edit: Found a thread to remove root and factory reset, but my OTA update still won't install.
Edit2: Goes to the AT&T Updating progress screen and fails at about 25% and then reboots and starts up as normal.

No idea, it's a ~65mb update that just came up yesterday for me. I was looking to reset my phone back to factory anyways lately, so I just decided to do it now on account of there being an update. Since it's not working anyways, I might just re-root and flash a custom ROM, but then I lose S-Pen functionality, but I don't use the pen much these days anyways.
The update has two possibilities...
Either it's the latest UCAMC3 update for UCAMA4.....or...
If updating from the UCAMA4 to C3....and the update has an interrupt...or errors....it "can" complete the update process and show a finished status...but will prompt the user again later and download the update again....minus the updater files placed to cache....because they already exist...
I've had this happen twice in so many months as I returned to stock for various reasons...
The file size is roughly 65 meg.....while the complete update is 68.86 meg..
Just take the update...as it's the UCAMC3 minus the updater...g

if you would like to run a 4.3 stock ROM, there are a couple in the development section that you can choose from without having to run the 4.3 boot loader that contains KNOX. That way you don't have to go through the unroot process to accept the OTA.

Thanks. I think the preference is to accept the OTA. If we need to unroot, we'll do that if we can figure out how. Sorry for being a little vague. I'm trying to help someone else out.
ok, you can go here Restore to unrooted MD4 follow that and you're good to go
I was stock rooted with clockwork recovery.
Took the OTA without unrooting with no problems at all, just had to re-root when it was done.

Relax . You do not have to update. You do not have to lose Root. Check out THIS thread. It will explain a few things to you in detail about Updates, and how to stop the update nag. If you want to update to the latest TW 4.3 Stock Rooted, check out the thread HERE. Just make sure you read, and read again before doing anything. Also make sure to download the correct Rom. There are several versions on the thread.

Thanks for the answer.
I actually want to update to stock 4.3, and I was trying to achieve that by getting the OTA update.
And i was wondering if i can still do that?
If I simply can't then I'll just go to CM instead of getting other rooms since I used to have them with my old HTC.
Thanks again
If you want completely Stock Rooted 4.3, it's the second link I posted for you. It's the Stock, Rooted, Factory Rom, with Knox removed. All done by CNexus . Just be sure to read before doing anything. As there are several versions posted. I would highly suggest going this route instead of taking the OTA update. Once you take the OTA you will have Knox, and a different bootloader.

What exactly are you trying to do? Get the official update or flash a custom rom?
If you want the official, remove root and install the OTA (you can use towelroot afterward to root).

Tibu is my fav backup app, just make sure you don't restore system app/data. Just make a batch backup and restore once you've flashed KK.
Unroot can be done directly in SuperSU (app).
Yes you can go directly to KK (or any other version), just don't downgrade once you'll have the 4.3+ bootloader or you'll brick your device.
And yes, use Odin on your PC, mobile Odin doesn't flash bootloaders.
The entire process is fairly simple. Just gotta be patient

unrooted 4.1.1 won't update dead android
My AT&T SG3 was rooted until yesterday with stock 4.1.1. I unrooted, re flashed stock image and stock recovery. The phone status says "Normal" now so I think I successfully unrooted. When I try to do the OTA after downloading, it goes to a screen which says installing then updating with an incremental percent counter. When it reaches about 29%, it just reboots and comes back with "Install Interrupted The software update could not be installed". When I do "adb reboot recovery" from a command window, I see a dead android with a red triangle and I assume that has something to do with it or is some kind of symptom. Is there anything I can do to get the latest stock image installed? Did I miss something in the unroot process?

I spent several hours on this again today. I thought I had discerned the fix when I found a post showing the custom download count on the download screen and references to the yellow triangle program to reset it. I rerooted the phone, put stock recovery back, zeroed out the counter with yellow triangle, put the stock image back with ODIN, factory reset, and ended up with an unrooted phone with zero count. The download screen now says:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (in light Grey)
I thought that would do it but the OTA still fails and I still see the red triangle on the stock recovery page. The only thing I can think of now is that SuperSU is still on the phone. It is disabled but still has 12KB of data that I don't know how to clear. I used the stock image from the skipsoft Android Toolkit.
Any ideas would be really appreciated.
I would steer clear of the toolkit. Follow enewman17's how to update thread in the General section. Seems to have a pretty good success rate.

Unlock is "permanent". You shouldn't lose root but everything you do is at your own risk.

I did the same than you and also what n01un0 says but couldn't get OTA update to 4.3 or 4.4.2.
If you want the 4.4.2 in your S3, follow enewman17's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789917 Thread.
It worked perfect for me from 4.1.2 stock to 4.4.2. The final result is the same that you get by OTA (if OTA works)
unrooted 4.1.1 won't update dead android - solved

I solved my problem by a convoluted process that I could not recommend but will lay out as best I can in case anyone is that desperate. I had re-rooted and un-rooted a couple times since my last post and finally decided to try a different stock image. I found a link to one in an article
how-to-unroot-att-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747 (sorry - not allowed to post URL)
The link is to stockroms.net. Really slow download - it took a couple hours. After the download (and unzip),
I attached my unrooted phone via USB cable to my computer.
Installed it with ODIN and watched the phone reboot
It seem to get stuck on the Samsung splash screen.
I went into recovery mode and noticed that - at last - I did not have the red triangle and no dead android. I tried wiping the cache a couple times from the recovery screen but it still seemed to get stuck at the splash screen (not sure if I waited long enough).
I finally did the factory reset from the recovery and it finally came back to life and went through the whole initialization thing. I confirmed a couple times that the red triangle was gone and noted that I had gone from Android version 4.1.1 to 4.04. Maybe that was the key or maybe I had a bad stock version of 4.1.1. IDK. But I started going through a series of updates. I am currently at version 4.3 and downloading what I hope will be the last update.
Started with 4.1.1 and used outdated stock image to go back to
4.04 - small update but version still
4.04 - cleared data from AT&T Update App to get around the wait 24 hours - got the update installed to version
4.1.2 - checked for update and got upgraded to
4.3 - check for update wanted me to wait 24 hours and I could not see how to clear the data - so changed the phone's date to next day. Automatically started downloading a new update - I'm hoping its the last
