Hello, I recently just updated my Rogers SGH-i317M to 4.3, which then downloaded a system update which put it at 4.4. I was running Jedi X20, which is based on 4.1.2, when I first tried updating, I flashed the "4.3param_tz" file in odin, and was left with an error screen saying I need to recover using Kies, so I downloaded the official release, flashed via odin, and thats how I got to where I am now. I want to try the "Ditto Note 3" rom, "Sky Note Air 4.3", "Mean Bean" and "Beanstalk". My main question is, can I just start flashing these roms like I was before on 4.1.2, or do I need to use the specific kernel listed on their page? Before you needed a specific kernel to run a touchwiz rom or an aosp rom, so is it still the same? Or can I use my stock 4.4 kernel and try both aosp and tw roms now? If so could you point out the kernels I would need? And educate me on anything else I should know about before flashing 4.3 and 4.4 roms, (I'm not worried about warranty), this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time in reading this and helping me out, much appreciated!!
Regardless of where u are, I'd Odin to Rogers stock KK 4.4.2. Then Odin Twrp recovery, boot into twrp recovery and flash SU v.1.99. Finally choose your rom and flash away. This way you are on the lastest KK 4.4.2 Bootloader and KK Modem/Baseband.

I did all that except flash SU 1.99, so I tried flashing SKynote Air and it didnt work, upon restarting my phone it said no os is available. So I tried restoring from the backup I made of the official 4.4.2 Samsung rom in twrp, didn't work. Tried Odin, didn't work. Then I tried flashing the Skynote rom again and it worked. So I'm afraid of flashing any other roms now.
Okay, so my phone is currently running 4.4.2 Cyanogenmod right now, I had to find out the hard way that I cant jump back to 4.3 due to the bootloader but will it be possible to install the stock 4.4.2 safely once its released? Or is there a way to go back down to 4.3 that I'm missing..

Don't know how you got the impression you can't go back to 4.3 from Kit-Kat based CM. CM, like most stock ROMs, doesn't come with its own bootloaders but relies on manufacturer's bootloader to run. If you went to CM from stock 4.3, chances are your bootloader was unaffected and still remains at 4.3. You can check what bootloader your phone is on by going to settings and seeing what you have under baseband. If it's UCUEMJB then you have the 4.3 (MJB) bootloader and you should be able to use custom recovery to flash a stock 4.3 restore image.
If history is anything to go by, you would be unlikely to get the (newly released) 4.4.2 update OTA if you are not on a full stock (or stock-based) ROM. I would, however, not be in a rush for OTA as we can always trust the good guys in the development community to come up with a manual update process shortly. If you still want to revert to full stock 4.3, then you can follow the instructions in the thread below ...

Your right!
Used the process you gave me and it worked, I had been trying to use odin but I supose a simpler solution was better. Thanks again!
I just switched from stable CM10.1 to stock 4.4.2 this week. It sucks. Performance and battery dropped drastically. Will be going back to CFW asap.
Hi everyone I hope this is not a repetition of some old thread (I tried but couldn't find though).
I was using my note 2 (T889) on stock 4.3 which i previously flashed via odine. A couple of days ago i came by this good looking kitkat based rom ( eZKAT v2.0 ) and went on to try it. the rom flashed flawlessly and after flashing my modem i got the signals as well but the wifi was not working. tried using dr. ketans wifi patch but didnt get the wifi to working. Anyhow, I decided to go back to 4.3 via odine. The odine flashing completed successfully but i got stuck on T-mobiles boot screen for hours.
Is there anything called "you cant go back to 4.3 from 4.4.2"? If yes, then whats the way around? I really need to go back to the stock.
Thanks.

I had this problem on my Note also. Downgrading versions of Android requires a data wipe. You will need to reflash your 4.4 ROM then backup your data if you want. Save your backup to your computer then install the 4.3 image.

I already tried that but still the booting stuck on the t-mobile logo. I read somewhere that locked bootloader don't let you downgrade to previous version. Is this true?
In that case. Try finding a 4.3 rom that's close to stock.

The locked bootloader is always in stock firmwares i.e 4.3 for the Note 2 but not in custom roms meaning u can even install Lollipop custom on it & downgrade smoothly, i have done that many times. The problem is 4.3 stock firmware has locked bootloader hence downgrading still keeps u in 4.3 bootloader even if u remove all the KNOX files.
Stuck trying to downgrade from custom 5.1.1 to stock 4.3
Hi, i have a problem like this, upgrade to a custom 5.1.1 and then sell the phone, the new owner wants to have it stock, i try to downgrade to 4.3 but i cant, in odin i set the phone to flash it but seems like it doesn`t recognize the phone and i dont know why, so, i decided to try in recovery mode installing from the sd card but the sistem abort, so, i don`t know what to do, i`ll appreciates any help, sorry for my english, i do my best. (i have root access before upgrated to 5.1.1).
I went to downgrade from marshmallow to lollipop 5.1.1 pb1 and I'm stuck in a bootloop is downgrading not possible or am I doing something wrong. installed the pb1 stock kernel as well after it kept bootlooping, though that shouldn't be necessary when installing a stock firmware. Any thoughts?
I feel like a complete noob, just did a factory reset and whiped the cache and I was up and running.
Downgrade path
What method did you use to downgrade back to 5.1.1? I am looking to downgrade so that i can root/unlock bootloader/ flash recovery/ install custom fw.

Just flash the older rom in odin.
I've also noticed that after unlocking the bootloader the sd card used can cause bootloops so make sure you take it out and format it after unlocking.
hey can anyone help me? i've recently reverted my note 2 back to stock via odin and everything seemed fine. When the phone booted and i went through the setup process it always hangs. No matter what i do it always hangs. I've tried reflashing it and rebooting it over and over again but it always hangs. anyone know why this keeps happening?
Are you flashing the latest stock ROM? You're performing a factory reset before booting the ROM for the first time?

Yup latest stock rom, and before i flashed via odin i deleted my previous rom via twrp and formatted internal storage so its 100% clean
I've downgraded a Note 2 sgh-i317m to 4.1.1 from 4.4.2 by flashing a stock 4.1.1 ROM from sammobile.com in order to network unlock the phone. Flashing the stock 4.1.1 ROM tripped knox and could be installed via Odin because the 4.1.1 ROM from sammobile.com did not contain a 4.1.1 bootloader so I wound up with a stock 4.1.1 ROM on a 4.4.2 bootloader. After unlocking, I flashed the stock 4.4.2 ROM again and the the phone worked as it should.
I'm not sure which phone you have and I'm not sure downgrading and upgrading will work in your case but it's something you may want to look into.

I've managed to get the phone working (N7100) and it seems to run fine on Nougat. I did some testing and indeed it would always crash on setup with kitkat roms. I wonder why this is the case....
It is strange that kit kat causes a problem.
Have you tried using a different version of twrp to wipe the system before flashing with Odin? Can't think of anything else that may solve the problem.
