Hi,
I am trying to downgrade my Xperia Arc from ICS to Gingerbread because it is very slow.
I found some information by when I try to download files required the files are only for windows.
Can I ask some geeks here to kindly provide very easy to understand step by step guide how to do it on my Apple computer? I am only average computer user and not very knowledgeable with this technical stuff.
Thank you.
Download Flashtool from http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
And search on xda for 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware for Xperia Arc, also known as LT15i or LT15a, depending on your model.

Both. "a" is for American region and "i" is for International.

But you said LT15 instead of LT18
Xperia arc is LT15, Xperia Arc S is LT18.
Thank you. I manage to download both files.
As I mentioned in my first post I am not very knowledgeable how to do it, I never heard about this stuff.
Would you be so kind and point me in the right direction or provide link where can I find step by step guide how to do it?
]I decided to try it myself .Copied flashtool to firmware folder and when I start the process following message appear. I dont know if the firmware I downloaded is ok for Mac, thats the only one I found.
Shall I press ok or find "Mac" version of firmware. I can not find it anywhere.

There are no Mac versions.
Drop the downloaded FTF file into the firmwares folder, then open Flashtool app. Then you should be able to see it.
Thanks, but I can not find any firmware folders
I saw a video on youtube how to do it on windows pc but have no idea how to do it on apple.
On windows pc:
3) Place firmware in correct location on your PC
Place the FTF file in the C:\Flashtool\firmwares folder.

There is such folder. If you looked at the picture you posted, you would see such address
Code:
/Users/[your name]/Desktop/LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.62/FlashTool.app/Contents/MacOS/firmwares
Put the FTF into that directory.
Thanks, I managed to start flashing.
However when I follow the prompts and press back button while connecting usb cable nothing is happening? Flash process do not start.

I follow the instruction from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274409
and this is the download link:
http://www.multiupload.com/L4ZWC6H3HQ
I extract the file I download, it contain:
META-INF folder, few files with ".sin" extension, as long as I know, it should be one single ".ftp" file. (correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not sclever about this) and put the ".ftp" file in Flash-firmware folder. Right?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App[/QUOTE]
i see what ya doing
firstly, the file you flash is an ftf (stands for FlashTool File)
and secondly, you dont need to extract it
just place the file you downloaded ***R800i_4.0.1.A.0.283_(1247-6212).ftf*** in the firmware folder of flashtool
open the flashtool program
click flash and select the firmware in question
then follow on screen directons (turn phone off, hold back button while plugging in, and wait for the magic to happen)
sometimes, things can sound so much more complicated than they are i hope this works for you ^_^
I checked the file from your download link and it's the right '.FTF' file and you don't need to extract it unless it's in a .zip or .rar file when downloaded. If it's a FTF file you've downloaded that's the way it should stay and be used with flashtool. Just put it in the 'firmware' folder that got extracted along with x10FlashTool etc.

it's showing the files in the manner it would if i opened an ftf with 7zip. so what i suggest to you, is to change the .zip of the download to .ftf
but why it shows on your computer as a .zip is weird?!?!!? i looked at the link, and it says .ftf maybe winrar (that is the program you unzip with, right?) changed it?
but change the extension to ftf and try again
you MIGHT need to enable "show file extensions for known file types" to do it. but try without first.
Yeah... I feel wierd too. Everybody already able to flash their rom while I can't. True it is written '.ftp' but when download it, it become '.zip' file.
Or could it be.... some one already change the file?
Thank.
GN Multimedia - Xperia Arc
did you try changing the file extension?
Yes. but still make no different.
Yeah it's weird you end up with a .zip file when downloading. I used the same link last week and have just checked the downloaded file and it says .ftf file extension.
Try downloading it on your play that might help.

So i check around the internet and found this. If you cant see the firmware content when selecting your ftf files. I found that by opening the ftf files using 7zip and deleting the for me it is the R800i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic_UK file inside then try to check whether the firmware content can be seen.
After deleting the file, the content can be seen. But i didnt try to flash it as i fear something might go wrong and hard bricked my phone. Anybody can test it out?
Idea from : lynxdog. ( I just played around the ftf folder to test it out whether can see the firmware content. )

As you have discovered the .ftf is simply a compressed file using a different file extension. The .sln files are also simply .img so you can use fastboot to flash these as required. I found that the UK generic 2.3.4 ftf file refused to decompress and be processed by flashtool so I manually extracted/unzipped the files and used fastboot to flash the kernel/system/userdata .sln to achieve what I wanted.

Same as the ICS Beta firmware i guess. As it came in a form of .img file instead of .ftf. file. So this firmware (uk generic 2.3.4) is only avail for unlock bootloader user. Bump!!!

The flashtool has an option under advance menu called bundle creation. I haven't used it but I'm guessing you point it at a folder with the collection of files (system, kernel etc...) and it does the rest.

That's okay, I found it though, but I have no idea how to work with the IMG files, as in, can't convert them into a group of .SIN_FILE_SET files to make them work with the Flash Tool bundle creator. So that won't work, because as far as I know, converting IMG to SIN isn't possible.

Too many unknown words and language.... =.=, actually i post this to hlp some user who experience what i experience. the ftf files not showing firmware content and as a result cant flash it. so, basically, open the ftf files using 7zip or anything. then delete the file that has the same name as the ftf file itself. close the 'open archive' then voila working ftf file. then just follow the guide on using flashtool to flash. , learn it from many guys. And my utmost gratitude to the ppl who hlp.

Its already a diff discussion. Lol So it dont matter. If we cant flash this .ftf then just move on with a diff .ftf. No biggie.
The decrypt function in flashtool uses the temporary files that the official sony ericcson update tool creates in the background when upgrading your device. From these files flashtool extracts data and partition info etc... and generates the .sin files.
The bundle function then collects these files and creates a single .ftf file. So, I flashed the UK 2.3.3 and then relocked my bootloader (se update tool will not work with an unlocked bootloader). I then ran the sony update tool and let it download the latest 2.3.4 firmware and saved the files to another location.
Opened flashtool, ran the decrypt function using the folder I saved the se files to then the bundle function to create the ftf. I was able to successfully flash the new ftf file without issues. Anyway, probably a flashtool tutorial around somewhere.
As the title says, my flashtool (0.9.10.1) isn't able to find the "R800i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic.ftf" file. Of course I installed the needed drivers.
Once I was able to downgrade to .42 but that was a long while ago.
I tried already these things:
Reinstall Flashtool
Install on another partition
Search for another ftf file (it's everywhere the same)
Viewed ****tons of manuals/videos
Does anyone knows what I could do?
Try using this tool. .42 firmware is available through this:

That link is for unlocked bootloader, and you are probably on locked bootloader.
Just us PC Companion to flash stock firmware.
Or find find out why flashtool can't flash stock firmware. Possible reasons - solutions
-not in flash mode - power off phone, while keeping pressed back buton plug usb to PC
-bad download - redownload
-bad file - download from other source
-Flashtool can't read path of downloaded file (special letters in directory's path) - place file in C:/ or D;/
-unknow errors - start flashtool with admin rights
-phone not recognized - bad drivers, use drivers from flashtool folder
Solution
I had the same problem, where only 4.0.2.A.0.42 Global would not show up in the Flashtool ftf list. Version 0.62 or 0.42 CN would show up fine.
I used the firmware from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477440
Using an older version of Flashtool (flashtool 0.6.9.1) resolved the problem for me (http://www.4shared.com/file/-rYqPPug/flashtool-0691-windows.html).
You could file a bugreport with the Flashtool developers.

I solved the problem by manually let the FlashTool sync the devices databases from Github
1 - Connect to the internet
2- From FlashTool > Devices > Device Sync > Manual Sync
3- after it's done syncing close FlashTool and open it again..
4- it should say loaded ninety something devices (in my case 94)
5- choose flash > flashmode and choose a folder that contains any correct FTF (not corrupted FTF file) whatever the names of the files are..
you should now have your device(s) listed in the Firmwares box with the FTF files after expanding the device name..
Have a good flashing

Finally we got someone who had the update, can you please help us to share the ftf file?
Below are the steps;
Stage 1 = Installation
Stage 2 = Getting files to create an FTF
Stage 3 = Creating FTF
PLEASE FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY TO AVOID DATA LOSS
Tools required:
1. Flashtool . Latest version can be found here
2. Sony Update Service Direct link to download is here
3. JRE may be required if Sony Update Service doesn't install it for you, can be found here
4. LOCKED BOOTLOADER is required otherwise sony update service will reject your phone.
Currently there is no way to relock bootloader, if you are unlocked you will need to wait till we have a relock procedure
Stage 1 - Installation
Step 1. Install Flashtool using the installer file downloaded above, this should normally install in C:\Flashtool
Step 2. Install Sony Update Service, IT is better if you install it to the directory C:\Sony Update Service\
when it asks you where to install, This will make things easier and quicker when creating the FTF. and this is what i will refer to in this guide
*Step 3. Install JRE ONLY if Sony Update Service fails to install it or it does not run.
Stage 2 - Getting files to create an FTF
Step 1. Load up Sony Update Service, will ask you to accept license whenever you run it with some tips before you start, CLICK START
Step 2. Next it will ask you to connect your phone, Switch off your phone, Keep hold of volume down and plug your usb into the phone. Your phone LED will briefly flash Red then Green
Step 3. SUS will tell you, you are already up to date, Tick the box and Click install
Step 4. SUS will ask you to confirm data removal, and inform you all DATA will be lost, CLICK YES
NOTE: You will not lose your data if you click yes and then follow the rest of the instructions,
Step 5. SUS will start to download the official firmware for your device, it will not install anything to your device till it has finished downloading all the firmware,
MAKE SURE YOU KEEP AN EYE ON IT AS SOON AS IT HITS 100%, PULL YOUR USB OUT OF YOUR PC ASAP, RAPID, QUICK, FAST WHATEVER OTHERWISE YOU WILL END UP FLASHING FACTORY FIRMWARE AND LOSE DATA
If you pull it out before 100% the download will stop and you will have to follow steps 1 to 5 again, it will resume from where it left off.
At this point i pulled my USB OUT STRAIGHT AWAY ! BEFORE IT TRIED FLASHING MY PHONE
Your Download will be saved in your C Drive > Sony Update Service > DB > some numbers (mine was 13740270) > blob_fs
But at this point it is not in FTF and will need decrypting
Stage 3 - CREATING YOUR FTF
Step 1. Load up flash tool. Once it has opened, click Tools on the menu bar at the top THEN SUES/DECRYPT
Step 2. Click Browse and select your blob_fs folder we discussed above C: > Sony Update Service > DB> ####some number#### > blob_fs
This will show you 4 files, not sure if some might show more or less, but generally 4 on the left in Available files
Step 3. Click on each file then the arrow to send it to files to convert then click convert, Note if it is not doing anything be patient, Decrypting can take several minutes and it will not update you until each file is fully decrypted.
Step 4. Once it has decrypted, it will automatically bring up the Bundler. Give your FTF a name, Version and Branding, see how i named mine.
Move across everything EXCEPT LOADER.SIN from the folder list on the left to the firmware content on the right using the arrows.
If you include loader.sin then you get an error when flashing with flashtool and flashing aborts! this is why i have requested you do not move/include it
Step 5. Click create, a little box will pop up with devices, just double click on C660X SONY Xperia Z or press ENTER
Step 6. Flash tool will then create your FTF, It will automatically save it in C:\Flashtool\Firmwares and also whenever you load flashtool and flash in flashmode it will show you the one you created.

Below are the steps;
1) Download the sony update service (SUS) from: http://www.sonymobile.com/in/tools/update-service/
2) Flash your phone with the latest software available using SUS. [You'll need this step to get the temporary files required to create the ftf]
3) Go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs
********[ Replace 'Program Files (x86)' with 'Program Files' in case of a 32 bit computer]********
4) create a folder "Source_files" in C:\
5) You'll find 3 larger files with filenames like "file_#########".One large file (~400MB) and 2 smaller files (~14MB and ~64KB) .Copy those 3
files to "C:\Source_files"
********[Ignore the files with filename like "ICON_#####...."]********
6) Download and install the latest flashtool from here: http://androxyde.github.com/
5) Run FlashTool
6) Click Advanced > Decrypt Files
7)Select source folder : "C:\Source_files"
8) From Files, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 3 files to "Files to convert"
9) Click OK
10) Wait till it finishes...
11) From Folder list, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move all files to Firmware content.
12) If it is ICS, tick the Disable Final Verification Check
13) On Device write the model [ex. Xperia U (ST25i)], on Version write the firmware version (Ex. 6.1.1.B.1.10) , on Branding write the local
(Ex.Indian or Italian etc.)
14) Click OK
16) Wait till the process finishes...
********[You'll get "Finished bundle creation" message on the log]********
17) When it finishes the .ftf file can be found on "C:\Flashtool\firmwares"

Finally we got someone who had the update, can you please help us to share the ftf file?
Below are the steps;

Deeply appreciate your detailed guidance. :good:
But i'm just a primer android user.
Not much understanding about above procedures.
(Actually don't want to lose the warranty so soon and afraid of my only cellphone die in my hand)
So i will search for someone more professional (in our local forum) to do these things.
Still a possibility that no one wants to help......i'll try

You can flash the rom but won't have the LTE band.
Friends, I'm there one week direct non-stop trying to root on my Sony Xperia T3 (D5106) 18.1.A.2.25 version, do not know what else to do, I've tried all the tutorials xda forum .. all give error .. when I give in flash D5103 model, error appears here, my T3 only works on the D5106 model .. How do I get to root on my Xperia T3 D5106 ??? For God's sake = ( :crying:
You can follow the tutorials found in other threads like http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-t3/help/how-to-root-xperia-t3-18-1-2-25-t3007487 or http://help.howproblemsolution.com/1377446/tutorial-root-xperia-t3-firmware-18-1-a-2-25 that show how to root a D5103. It works altough your phone will complain at startup that you have the wrong version (but it still works). To circunvent this you must flash an ftf file for the D5106. If you don´t find one you can generate your own ftf with flashtool, that should be installed in c:\flashtool.
1) start flashtool and go to Devices/Check Updates. Double click on D510X then click on D5106 tab. If you find the brand of your phone, double click it and flashtool will start downloading. If you don´t find your brand, you can add it to the list in flashtool\devices\D510X\D5106\custlist.properties. In my case I added 1 line with "1286-6141=AMERICAS-LTE" without the quotes. You find this information about your phone in C:\program data\Sony\Sony PC Companion\<youremei>\default-capability.xml , almost at the end under <filesystem> <productnumber> and <cdf> <productnumber>.
Save custlist.properties and you will see your brand in flashtool. Be patient waiting for download - it will bring almost 1 GB.
2) when download is finished, flashtool will automatically decrypt the filesets and open the "Bundler". There you should mark the whole folder list and move it to the right to the "firmware content". Now you can click on "create" and your ftf will be generated in the firmwares folder.
If the process ends successfully you will have generated an ftf and a torrent file.
Follow the steps in the tutorial to flash the .14 firmware, run the rootkit to root your device and use your generated ftf to flash the .25 firmware. Flash only the Kernel and unmark the wipe Data in flashtool.
I hope this helps, since it worked for me. happy flashing
