[Q] G Pad, Kit Kat 4.4.2, KOT49I.V50020b: Which TWRP.img (and/or aboot/loki file)? - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morning
I have:
LG G Pad 8.3 with LG's custom interface OS
Android version 4.4.2
Kernel version 3.4.0
Build number KOT49I.V50020b
Software version V50020b
Here is an image of the software information:
http://s30.postimg.org/taiyvu2k1/2014_06_28_14_31_41.png
I have already:
The LG drivers installed and updated -
Rooted the G Pad with towelroot's tr.apk (many thanks to the guy who made that method!)
Root checker and SuperSU installed and verifying the device is rooted
Google USB drivers (after rooting, the device refused to be recognized through the USB - installing the Google USB drivers seemed to fix that, although occasionally it dissappears again and I have to unplug/replug the USB cable)
Google ADT Bundle (adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140624 - although to be honest, my knowledge of using this program is limited)
Flashify (and Rashr - uncertain which is best to use, although both look good)
My goal:
Install TWRP
Use TWRP to install Cyanogen Mod
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. My G Pad has a micro SD card, which it can also write to (thanks to the G Pad being rooted). I'm a competent Windows and Android user, but by no means a hacker. If I want to upgrade or fix something, I read read read and try try try. But installing a new OS on my tablet is a new experience and I don't want to turn my tablet into a permanent brick! I have done all my homework, and think I know all the concepts, and generally the procedure. Now I just need the specific files and procedure for my G Pad.
My questions are:
1) Which TWRP recovery/boot image should I use to flash my device? (I tried a version, and briefly turned my G Pad into a brick! Fortunately I tried some power+volume combinations that I discovered, and that seemed to return to the original system.) My best options I have found seem to be:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551499
plus using step 3 here (a loki-exploitable ABOOT and TWRP)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698267
...or only:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/213
2) Do I need to use an aboot/loki file first? (Apparently 4.4.2 doesn't have a loki exploit? I'm a little unclear about this tbh.)
3) Can/should I use ROM Toolbox or ROM Manager?
4) If you try to flash a TWRP, and it doesn't work, does/can the device just return to the standard OS? (This is what seems to have happened with my G Pad.)
5) Should I wait until the community has more experience TWRP-ing and modding the G Pad Kit Kat 4.4.2, V50020b device? (There seem to be a lot of posts with people installing TWRP and installing another OS.)
Many thanks in advance. And while I am decent with computers and technology in general, I humbly ask to speak/explain it to me including steps you probably already know are obvious(!) - I don't want to miss anything, and it is probably not obvious for me, as this is more or less my first time! If I can make this question clearer, or can provide better information, I will update this comment. Again, many thanks in advance!

This TWRP worked for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2641409 and for version V50020b.
With this recovery you can flash LG based ROMS like LRS G Pad http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621904
If you want to install an AOSP based rom you have to downgrade to a 4.2.2 rom or bootimage http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621904 (flash the 4.2.2 zip from recovery , reboot again to recovery , and then flash CM or AOSP based rom)

Thanks!

root on N1 CyanogenMod Edition possible ?

just got my N1 CyanogenMod Edition.
really want to root and install an 4.4.2 rom on it…
but when i look in the forums I can't figure out if its impossible to root CM Edition N1 or install an 4.4.2 rom on it…
I'm not a noob, but want to be sure before starting anything
if i can install a 4.4.2 rom will the internal storage be one full size internal instead of two partitions ?
Hey there. I, too, have been wondering for a few weeks how to upgrade my new CM edition N1 from 10.2 to 11. Most of the advice here and elsewhere relate to people with a ColorOS N1 who want to update to CM11. After reading through much material on the internet, I finally decided to take a leap of faith and do the update today. Everything went well (mostly - I had a scare in the middle because it wouldn't power off, but I figured it out), and I'm proud to say I now have KitKat on my N1 now (CM11 M6 version).
This is the guide I used to do it: http://www.oppoforums.com/threads/how-to-install-a-custom-rom-updated-4-19.6388/
Make sure to get the N1's TWRP image (not the Find 5 image listed in the guide), found here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/209
CM11 snapshot M6 can be found here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=n1&type=snapshot (first one, as of today).
Gapps are here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps#Downloads
Make sure you have the ROM and Gapps in the root of SDcard BEFORE you go into fastboot mode, of course.
Don't worry about the modem flashing step described in the guide. I didn't do it (although, I don't have a SIM yet, but I don't think we need it for N1).
Make sure to pull your USB cable from the phone after step 6, otherwise your phone won't power off from fastboot.
That's it, other than these notes above, just follow the guide, and you should be good to go! Let me know if you have any questions

root (stump) , re-root (IOROOT), BUMP, TRWP,
Rooted with STUMP initially just fine. Then had to factory reset due to a malfunctioning app.
Stump does not (yet) support re-root after reset unless you flash back to stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906
Thanks for all the helpful posts in several threads. I Rooted using IOROOT, using ADB no problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776198
Now running BUMP TRWP recovery too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...pment/bump-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-verizon-t2900590
BUT, since i'm somewhat of a n00b, i used Flashify from the Google Play store to flash the image. Worked flawlessly. http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...ock-and-install-recovery-on-any-lg-g3.275056/
(in flashify, pick 'choose file' and navigate to the .IMG file)
Thanks!!

My phone does NOT work so I'm not sure why the change log states 12B.
What was upgraded, fixed, etc from 10B to 12B? Not really a fan of downgrading.

I'm also interested in this answer. The only reason I haven't updated to (any ART) rom is because I'm unsure if I can just restore a Dalvik backup without issues. The only way I would attempt is with TWRP.
i tried doing by Flash tool and it gives error like 0000008
bring up the post!
Curious as well. I'd like to get root.
Windows user not sure how to do it on Mac/Linux
by MM to KK I assume you want to take the LG G3 D851 from android 6.x down to 4.x
here goes...
----
http://lgg3root.com/lg-g3-stock-factory-firmware/
http://lgg3root.com/lg-g3-root/how-to-unrootunbrick-lg-g3/
use the LG Flash tool plus the two files, follow instructions on that second link step by step.
LGD851_20140611_LGFLASHv160.dll
LGD851AT-01-V10c-310-260-JUN-20-2014+0.tot
That takes you back to the 4.x kitkat stock ROM, not rooted or anything.
----------------
To go north from there back towards Lollipop or MM you can at this point use
http://www.download3k.com/Install-LG-Mobile-Support-Tool.html
B2CAppSetup.exe
Install it, will put an icon on your desktop, plug in your phone, open the app.
It's pretty much automatic, it updates the ROM from KK to Lolli, then if you hit "OK" it will update from Lolli to MM
- I just got both of these steps to work in the last 24 hours.
I'm still trying to find a valid "Root" method that doesn't ask me to install a funky ROM.
I went from a KK stock-rooted(TWRP 3.0) rom to the MM 6.0 Rom, realized I didn't really want to set everything up again, restored my KK backup. Only problem was I had to reflash the modem. That was a couple of days ago and the modem was the only issue.
I'm unsure about flashing a new/clean KK rom over a MM rom though.
KK Modem (D85110r) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95832962473396848
I think I missed a step, in KitKat this phone needs a special command thrown at it so the memory cards will be read/write.
On the play store SDFix: KitKat Writeable MicroSD
I think that might be what I was missing last weekend. My phone is currently on MM but I can't root it with any method other than Kingroot and Kingroot is Bad News.
Yes. It's possible!.

Advice on updating new VS986

Hi all - I received a brand new VS986 today with 5.1 installed (VS98611A specifically). I followed the UsU procedure to unlock the bootloader and installed Magisk.
Basically I'd like to either remove some of the bloatware on 5.1 / Lollipop or upgrade to 6 / Marshmallow. If I choose to upgrade, is there a recommended ROM to flash that won't undo the UsU I already performed? Can I use my existing SALT flash drive to manually disable / remove unwanted apps in download mode?
I had a custom ROM on my previous phone (Galaxy S5) but I think I'll stick with a vanilla ROM this time, at least for now, unless there's a highly recommended M/N/O custom ROM that doesn't have any glaring issues, and will be an easy upgrade path from my current Lollipop installation.
Thanks for any advice here.
After further research, it appears I did a no-no and applied UsU to a Lollipop bootloader. Now that that's done, is flashing a stock Nougat ROM (e.g. as described here) safe to do? Or should I go through the procedure listed in #20 of the FAQ from steadfasterX and try to flash elements from a MM .ndz file first? If so, I downloaded a VS98626A kdz file - should that work to pull the necessary MM boot files from?
Sorry for the newbie-ish questions, I'm just trying to avoid bricking my new phone.

Custom Rom unsure about prerequisites

Hey guys it's been a long time since I've done anything rather than run the stock os so im a bit out of practice...
This is the version I am looking to install:
ROM][SM-P605][9.0] Unofficial LineageOS 16.0 for lt03lte
It states: "-Be sure you are on 5.1.1 Bootloader and Modem (Flash 5.1.1 firmware via Odin) !"
And I am not sure how to confirm this...
If anyone could give me a hand I have attached "screenshots" of the about page.
Thanks
Jonathan
I have found a couple ways to verify this. First you can root your device and install Root Checker Pro (and maybe others). There is a tab in RCP that is called build info and it has the bootloader listed.
You second option is to install a terminal application and run the command getprop ro.bootloader and you will see your versions listed as well. Please note you must make sure you use the right ROM for your system. For example the version 9 you linked above will not work on my tablet due to my CPU.
In my case the boot version is P600UEUC0B1.
I flashed this version 7.1 ROM and use it on my Galaxy Note 2014 Edition (The Exynos processor) but it requires a 5.1.1 boot loader (per the page) and my version works but it is not LL.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...0-cyanogenmod-14-0-unofficial-builds-t3457898
You can look at this post to try and download the bootloader. I had issues with the link to get the file and used another forum post to download it. This post has the version as P600XXUDPL1 once updated but this will not install on my device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71355516&postcount=1247
My steps
I rooted my device (used the proper tools, set USB debugging, etc... per the root method I used)
I installed the recovery manager (TWRP in my case)
Went through the process to update my bootloader per the ODIN link above
Factory Reset my device
Booted into recovery
Used the ADB sideload to get the ROM on my device
Used ADB sideload to install Google apps
Set up device
Installed SPenCommand to get my pen functions back (may be other options out there)
