Security updates on 4.4 rooted - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So has anyone applied the security update and maintained root? I ask this because the update says it will fix security flaws and malicious exploits (root falls here) so has anyone had problems with it and root??? Thanks

sir as u have rooted ur phone please do me a favour please make a debrick file and uplad it if u dont mind as i hardbricked my phone after 4.4 update thanks in advance

OK so I applied the update and root is fine so we are good there.... [saqib] I'm not entirely sure how to create a debrick image

In the how to debrick thread I posted a recovery flashable script you can use. Just flash in recovery and itll do the rest. Once done just upload the debrick.img it created on your sdcard.
If you cant find the script, let me know. Might be several pages back in the thread.

How were you notified of the security update? I'm on TMS3KK-1.1-KOT49H.1747UCUFNE4. It's a TW rooted ROM

Is the script for stock recoveries?

And @OKAstro it was in my status bar....you can also go sys. Settings>more>security>security updates

After updating SuperSU, it gave me options to disable KNOX, which disabled the annoying blocking of apps(I believe it did).
2.I installed busybox from the Play Store. I also installed Android Terminal Emulator from the Play Store.
3. I opened Android Terminal Emulator and entered these two lines, entering between them After entering the first, I granted root access, then ran the second line.
su
busybox dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/debrick.img bs=1M count=128
4. After those two lines were ran, the debrick.img file was on the root of either the external or internal sdcard. I copied that file to my desktop, and inserted my sd card into my computer(Using the MicroSD to SD Adapter).
5.Finally, I used Win32DiskImager to write the files to the Micro SDcard. After that, I pulled my battery and inserted the Micro SDCard into my phone and it was able to boot into recovery and download mode.

but it couldn't find the phone... says 'make sure usb cable connected'
am using unbranded phone.
Can't you get into recovery at all? (Assuming you used unrevoked you should be able to).
Then I'd do a full wipe/reflash from there.

I full wiped and reflashed at least 3 times, but that didn't fix the broken root
i want someone to help me find the right RUU for my phone
try this one:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
you need a froyo.
1) Please post in the correct section first [Q&A, not DEV]
2) There's a selection of pre-rooted stock roms available via SEARCH at the top
3) Flash via renaming to update.zip and sticking on the root of your SD card
3a) If fails, name it pb99img.zip and do it via voldown+power
How you lost root rights and delete this directory? I think to you need Froyo release RUU

Updating from 4.3 to kitkat

I have resisted updating my rooted Nexus 7 running stock 4.3 (JSS15R) to kitkat but am now ready to do so.
I know to do a nandroid backup (is doing it via rom toolbox good enough? ) and a fresh tibu backup.
But I have some last minute questions.
1. should I just accept the ota update or as recommended elsewhere should I use the file from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380113
2. will the update make me lose root? Can that be prevented? (I always have trouble getting the correct drivers to access the Nexus)
3. any other precautions?
Finally : to prevent accidental update before I was ready, I had renamed the system update file when it first downloaded. Now I don't remember where I found it and system will not re-download it with a message that verification failed.

Its a nexus device, even if you lose root, it takes like 3 seconds to root it again.. I want to say doing the ota when I first got my nexus 7 did not result in losing root, but I might be incorrect on that one..

I know that is true for most people, but it always takes me a couple of days to get the right drivers working for my windows 7 laptop to communicate properly with the Nexus. Then, once adb and fastboot can access the device, you are correct and the rooting is a breeze. That is why I cringe at having to go through that again.
The drivers are simple.. Just Google "nexus adb drivers" and download them from Google directly. Once you have them downloaded go into device manager, find your nexus, right click it, and select update driver. Choose the have disk option and navigate to the nexus drivers. Should be all set after that. I'll research where the update is stored on your device and reply in a minute.
EDIT: All updates should be downloaded to your /cache partition.

My /cache contains 3 folders
Where would I find the ota update file? Maybe I can install it directly.

If memory serves, when I looked for it before, it was in a "fota" directory under /cache. Look for a zip file.
I don't believe you can install it directly, nor would I want to try anyway.
Once you find it, delete it and then redownload it

Welcome to Sony. Reboot your comp and if it still doesn't show up then god knows.
Have you got latest version of flashtool installed?
Not near my pc, but am sure theres the option to browse for the ftf file in flashtool? Just make sure source folder is pointed to the firmware folder your ftf is in and flash.

Cant flash TWRP

Hey guys I'm kinda new to Android I've had a chappy phone and now an LG g pad after attempting root about a dozen times I finally managed to get it root now I am trying to get TWRP to backup the tablet and change the boot animation later but every time I tried on my pc it would fail so I installed flashify and tried with that I then I got a boot error saying security issues. The tablet stills boots but I believe the problem is the locked boot loader. Thanks for any help offered.

Have you installed root checker or another program to confirm that you do, in fact, have root? Start with that.
If you haven't installed a superuser app to handle permissions, I'd do that as well before trying to install TWRP.
I'll admit I had troubles installing TWRP as well, when looking at the forums, make sure you're downloading the version for your EXACT version of android and firmware, and following the instructions for the right version as well. Good luck!

Rooting Huawei Y560-L01 (alias Y5)

Hi!
Has any routed this phone successful? I've tried Kingo ROOT yet. (Android version: 5.1.1)
How can I root this device a step-by-step method?
Thanks!
Anyone? There's like zero information about this phone anywhere, can't even navigate the strange chinese custom reovery menu nor can I find any pictures/translations of it
edit: I can access the normal recovery menu with volume up + power which is also in English, my bad, but when I press volume down + power I get this strange menu and since pressing or holding the power button didn't do anything I had to remove the battery to exit it: imgur.com/a/eE3hb
edit2: reddit.com/r/translator/comments/3u1hwj/chinese_english_huawei_y560l01_smartphone_custom/

Looks like this thing is unlocked too, which is nice: (Well, at least it doesn't say that it is locked. I have used only Samsung devices to this point, so I am not too familiar with fastboot yet)
Code:
~ > fastboot oem get-bootinfo
...
(bootloader) Device UNROOT
OKAY [ 0.003s]
finished. total time: 0.003s
I can't seem to find the kernel sources anywhere though.. Oh well, trying to get TWRP running with the stock one then..
EDIT: Found it here: http://m.huawei.com/enmobile/consumer/support/downloads/index.htm
EDIT2: It doesn't seem to have the device specific code in it.. :I
EDIT3: Well, here is the completed TWRP-port: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-twrp-huawei-y5-t3279477 Took a day to get it working and couple of days to get the bugs out.
Thanks Nikiz for your TWRP, I got one of these last week but didn't want to use an exploit app so being able unlock the bootloader and root with TWRP is great.
Unfortunately I didn't make a backup of the Huawei recovery first but am downloading firmware from here:
consumer.huawei.com/at/mobile-phones/support/downloads/detail/y5-at.htm?id=56623
so hopefully this works if I want to make it 'official' again.

I though the stock ROM has native App 2 SD? Just go to Settings, Manage apps, select the application, Move to SD card. Not sure how well it works, as I haven't used it. Rooting your phone can't brick it. Stupid things you can do with root can brick it.
