Finally, good bye "whelp" and welcome "S-Off"
I have installed HK and upgraded to latest 1.54.401.10 firmware (tmobile NL has not rolled it out for some reason).
Now, what else can I do with my new l33t status?
Other than the Hk mod and Viper audio software. I froze most of the bloatware. Unless you're gonna flash a rom. I'd leave just as is.
You can clear your tampered label. You can get rid of red writing splash screen. You can convert to any m8 variant. You can flash older firmware and radio. Change your cid. Lock and unlock bootloader. Etc.. almost brick proof.

Where would I get the viper sw? What is so good about it over the stock?

Thanks, have already super cid. Thinking of converting to gpe, though not sure of the merit. I don't hate sense

No advantage to converting. Running a Rom is the same thing.

You have a custom rom but your phone is S-on? How did that happen?

You don't have to be s-off to flash a custom Rom. You have to be s-off to flash a ruu or a radio though.

Thanks, I did not know that. Guess I'm still not clear which parts of the nand are protected by S-on....
Edit: Never mind - wrong again
are there any other methods to get S-Off? I've been trying firewater for hours now and it fails every time. even tried loading roms up to the phone whilst it's copying. Nothing works. It's a standard EUR One.

This will give you S-OFF but it's a paid app. Read the whole page before proceeding
Is that what you used yourself? Anyone used it?

Its confirmed to work. It runs tests to make sure your device is compatible before making you buy a licence. Just make sure you have root prior.

Hi,
How can I update my M8's firmware, when I am S-On?
I want to be able to flash the new 4.4.3 roms, but need firmware update.
Since there is no OTA with the firmware, can I maybe use the 2.12 system dump/firmware file??
Any help appreciated!
No. You can brick your phone, wait for your ota, or shell out $25 for sunshine. It says over and over must be Soff. Not trying to sound rude but don't you think they would tell you how to do it without soff if it were possible.

a similar question... i just bought my htc one m8 (GPE) and it came with 4.4.4, i tried to gain S-Off but with a Mac its an enormous pain in the ass...so after 6 hours of trying, i gave up and rooted it without s-off and flashed LiquidSmooth and it works perfectly. I still have S-On. Does this mean i can flash other 4.4.4 firmware without having to worry about bricking the phone or gaining S-off?
Being gpe you can flash any gpe or aosp Rom. You need Soff to get back to sense roms. Mac is easier than Windows btw. No drivers needed. Just adb and fastboot. Firewater may not work.

thanks for your help, i really appreciate it!
Hi I own an HTC one m8 rooted and unlocked bootloader.
I have s on and I want to convert to GPE with OTA.
Is it possible? I know how to change CID because mine is now HTC__621

Its definitely possible, but you need s-off I believe.
You can try firewater, and failing that Sunshine. That's the only ways.

You cannot convert to GPE with OTA, the partitions on Sense and GPE are completely different, you need to do a full RUU for it.
Oh sorry....missed the ota part.
I was just talking to convert. ?

so just a normal convert of GPE without OTA, can be done without s - Off?

If you want to convert to GPE you need S-OFF as you're going to make changes to partition sizes. The only way you can do that is to have S-OFF, root alone does NOT give sufficient privileges to make changes to partition sizes. You'll also need S-OFF in order to change the MID(Model ID) of the phone in order to convert it.
OTA has nothing to do with it.
Dang it... If only I had s off with firewater before it got patched.
Is there any way for me to get GPE experience without flashing CM or any aosp ROM?

is this okay to flash without s off?
has anyone tried to superCID for this device. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317536
If so were you able to try rom from other htc one forums on your device??
Is this possible ?

I think we are cid unlocked or at least mine was. All I did was go into bootloader and issue the following command (need s-off ofc)
Fastboot oem writecid (cid you want to input).

Why would anyone want to chance CID? Just wondering. Wont you still need VZW to remove the IMIE lock before you can switch carriers.

I guess it will be useful for me because I am from India and I have a carrier unlocked Verizon HTC One M7. This method would allow me to flash Custom ROMs from other threads too.:fingers-crossed:

International, US GSM, and Sprint ones have different mount points than the Verizon one. You flash firmware from another variant can brick your device. I highly suggest against it. This is why we have a different recovery than the other HTC ones out there in the wild.

To use htcdev to unlock the bootloader as cid is blocked. Other than that, no reason at all.

I just recently did super CID on my phone to try out other ROMs on my phone. I am switching to T-Mobile, and was trying to get LTE to work. But obviously I didn't flash firmware from another variant.

HTC One M8 International (Unlocked and S-Off) is not updating to 5.0.1. Please help.
Do you have the right stock recovery installed?
Did you modified the system files in any way?
Files like build.prop or platform.xml?
UniversalKID thanks for reply. I didn't make any modification in any file and how I know about the right stock recovery?

What do you mean not updating? Are you waiting for an OTA? Since you are S-Off, I'll assume you are running a custom ROM. It won't happen unless you are on stock.
But since you are S-Off, just update your firmware, and flash a Lolly ROM.
I want to use stock lolly ROM but through OTA downloaded 5.0.1 but at time of installation, I am not able to upgrade on lollipop.

S-On I suppose? For OTAs, return to stock with the instructions and downloads in this thread.

Do not tell someone to S-ON when they're not 100% certain they're stock, plus you don't need to be S-ON to update.
OP, can you get a shot of the actual error you're seeing? Up to now you've not really described the error very well

I wasn't telling him to s on, I was assuming he was s on.
I should have been more clear in my post.
Ah, OK. I can see how it can be read that way. My bad!
