(Q) S-Off - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running insert coin on my at&t HTC one. I've tried several times with fire water to gain soff. If anybody has a suggestion that would be excellent

You have a custom rom but your phone is S-on? How did that happen?

You don't have to be s-off to flash a custom Rom. You have to be s-off to flash a ruu or a radio though.

Thanks, I did not know that. Guess I'm still not clear which parts of the nand are protected by S-on....
Edit: Never mind - wrong again

are there any other methods to get S-Off? I've been trying firewater for hours now and it fails every time. even tried loading roms up to the phone whilst it's copying. Nothing works. It's a standard EUR One.

This will give you S-OFF but it's a paid app. Read the whole page before proceeding

Is that what you used yourself? Anyone used it?

Its confirmed to work. It runs tests to make sure your device is compatible before making you buy a licence. Just make sure you have root prior.

Does Anyone have RUU file for Asia_HK_1.28.708.15

As title,
I'm having trouble with bricking my HTC ONE X, but I cannot recover my phone using the older version of RUU with Error 140, and I cannot find any RUU file for Asia_HK_1.28.708.15, does anyone have this version of RUU file?
Or anyway to S-Off my phone? As I know, I can flash older version of RUU if I S-off my phone.
Thank you very much.
Push, anyone help?
No S-Off and no 1.29.708.15 RUU (you got the version wrong, right?)

I can't find that version your looking for.
If your hboot etc updated, you can no longer use older RUU versions.
1.29.708.9 is the latest RUU I think that you can try.

He has 1.29.708.15, that RUU isn't available.
Best bet is to restore android backup and don't forget boot.img.

Sorry? Could you explain more? Thank you very much!
Can you confirm that you have 1.29.708.15 (not 1.28...)?
And secondly, since you can't install the RUU, as it doesn't exist, what problem are you trying to resolve?
You're unlocked, so you can restore a backup (which you should have taken immediately after installing clockworkmod) and its boot.img, or you can install another custom ROM.

First, thanks for your kindly help.
I just forgot to mention that I've relocked my phone before my first RUU
And I cannot get into Android OS ofcourse, as well as Recovery.
When I turn on my phone, it just automatically boot into bootloader.
I've tried to RUU again but unfortunately it didn't work out as I mentioned.
Just pretend your phone is fine and go through the whole process of unlocking and installing a custom ROM.
Oh, you might try
fastboot erase cache
To fix recovery.
I can't fathom why the RUU install would not work.
As long as your in fastboot USB, there isnt any reason why it wouldn't work.
There is a RUU for 1.29.708.9,
I'm guessing he's trying to use an older RUU with an older hboot.

I know I haven't had it confirmed, but through my awesome psychic powers, I know he has 1.29.708.15, therefore no RUU that we have is new enough.

He's needs to tell us his OS software then.
But if his hboot was updated, its his only option.
Unless he's not doing it correctly, I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Thanks both of you first.
It seems my hboot has been updated and it seems there is no way to downgrade it.
The only way I can try is to re-Unlocker my phone.
Hope it will work.

As long as your adb is working, you shouldn't have any problems doing this.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

You don't need to find the specific version of an RUU, you only need to make sure the region of your RUU matches up with your phone's country code.
If you are sure you have an Asia_HK device, make sure you download the Asia_HK RUU, if it doesn't work, re-download fast boot, run the erase cache, relock your bootloader and install the RUU.

Running Rumrunner a second time...

So on my htc one i ran rumrunner to get root and installed superuser and flashed CWM. well before i couldnt get CWM to flash so while some people on here tried to help me one person decided to be a troll and said to run "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" and it made my phone S-on, i havent flashed any new recoveries or anything and i was wondering if i could get S-on. my phone speaker has blown and i need to get my phone back to stock so i can bring it in under warranty.
There's a thread on how to return to s-on stock. Easiest way is with the ruu s which both signed and unsigned versions of are on here

So will I have to use the decrypted or encrypted one?
And do I have to do it differently depending if I have the encrypted or decrypted one?
With being s on I believe you have to push the signed version via adb.

Rumrunner won't work with 4.3. You must be on 4.2.2. Shouldn't be long before there's a method for 4.3. Just not yet.

Works for all models. Just got root/S-OFF my VZW One the other day with no problems.
It works, I'm on 4.3 hboot 1.55. Firewater unlocked bootloader and s-off.

Silly question. Once I use firewater and achieve S-OFF, what next? just install SuperSU from the play store to have root access? Also, do you lose data with Firewater? On 2.10.605.1.
Thanks.
No data loss, but you have to flash cwm or tarp and install superuser from there. At least I think, I'm kinda new at this too.

I believe after you gain S-off you have to install a custom recovery. Then you'll have to flash a ROM with SU in it.

[Q] Updating firmware with S-On??

Hi,
How can I update my M8's firmware, when I am S-On?
I want to be able to flash the new 4.4.3 roms, but need firmware update.
Since there is no OTA with the firmware, can I maybe use the 2.12 system dump/firmware file??
Any help appreciated!
No. You can brick your phone, wait for your ota, or shell out $25 for sunshine. It says over and over must be Soff. Not trying to sound rude but don't you think they would tell you how to do it without soff if it were possible.

a similar question... i just bought my htc one m8 (GPE) and it came with 4.4.4, i tried to gain S-Off but with a Mac its an enormous pain in the ass...so after 6 hours of trying, i gave up and rooted it without s-off and flashed LiquidSmooth and it works perfectly. I still have S-On. Does this mean i can flash other 4.4.4 firmware without having to worry about bricking the phone or gaining S-off?
Being gpe you can flash any gpe or aosp Rom. You need Soff to get back to sense roms. Mac is easier than Windows btw. No drivers needed. Just adb and fastboot. Firewater may not work.

thanks for your help, i really appreciate it!

Firewater fails - can't S-OFF

Hello
So I tried running firewater on my One M8 but it failed. I got this 'remember the golden rule? Never take an OTA update? Apparently you don't. Device patched by HTC, you are out of luck.' Is there anything I can do? Btw I'm running CM11 if that matters.

As the many .... many threads on s-off already say :
Use a STOCK rom and a STOCK kernel and a STOCK recovery, then try firewater.....Does it fail ? Use SUNSHINE (Google it) when that fails you have to wait for SUNSHINE 3.0 (or whatever the next update will be called)
NO other way and NO other options are available !

Then i suggest to read up a bit more and learn the terms and all the things you need to know to get back to stock/how it all works/and what exactly certain things do. And most important why you need s-off and root.
Ask yourself these things first and then start modding a device.
