[Q] OTG Problem - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

When I connect a USB device to my rooted N7 via OTG cable, QuickMount/StickMount say "successfully mounted" but the device doesn't show up in my explorer (ES File Manager). I tried two different sticks (both formatted in FAT32). One stick has a light which turns on when connecting to the N7. A mouse/keyboard is also working, so I would say the cable is working.
What can I do?

if you are rooted, try Stick Mount. It is the only way I can mint b sticks on my nexus 7.

I don't know about quickmount, but stickmount is mount under folder name USB OTG not on separate drive.

USB on the go Problem

Bought an USB OTG cable few weeks ago and it just arrived today.
When connected to the GS3 I have (T999V), it says "security policy use of external SD card".
When I go into MYfile app and search for USB OTG, nothing appeared (a flash drive is attached with text documents and other various files)
The question, isn't the Galaxy S3 suppose to recognize this USB OTG? and there's no need to install any app to help it recognize it.
Running Team Sonic R3 Custom ROM right now.
Can anyone help me on this problem?
Because the USB OTG is one the the features that intrigued me buying the GS3!
My usb otg cable is on the way from China, so don't have hands on experience. But in ES file manager, if you navigate to /mnt/ folder you can see provision to support upto 6 usb drives as you can see in the screenshot. So try navigating to /mnt and see if you can access your usb drives from there.

Well, it is not completely unusable for me.
After I install the "USB Mass storage watcher" from the play store and mount the OTG it became usuable.
But sometimes it crashes. Also, isn't the device itself already compatible with the OTG itself? Why should I need to install the app in order from me to use the OTG? (these are the two main question here).
Also, the app isn't fully stable, it crashes sometimes and it is very hard to use. (everytime you unplug your USB device you have to mount it again)

p.s: I have tried to look in the ES file Manager and I did see 6 USB dirve and 1 usbOTG option. But before I use the app to mount the OTG device on my phone none of the options works. When I mount the device through the program, I can browse the files on my USB drive in the "usbOTG" option.

Mine works fine I bought a $3 otg cable from Amazon i have the t-mobile S3 stock rooted

[Q] Getting OTG USB stick working. Questions.

Hi all,
I just received my OTG cable and I'm trying to get my USB stick working with it. I've tested both USB sticks and a USB mouse. The Mouse works fine and the USB stick is recognized and mounted but I cannot see any files on it.
What formats is the default (rooted) i989 (Telus S2X) setup to read?

Follow up on USB Host
I too am using an HTC One X running 4.1.1
I've got an OTG cable and have tried connecting a thumb drive and card reader. Both work. The drives are visible and accessible on the phone. That's USB storage which isn't the same as USB Host, but it shows that the port is active.
I can plug in the dongle for a wifi mouse, it too is recognised and I'm able to use the mouse to navigate around on the phone. This, as far as I understand, is actually USB Host in action.
The problem arises when I try to connect a DSLR and use a camera controller app like Helicon Remote or DSLR Dashboard. The app doesn't recognise that the camera is connected.
What's the difference between the wifi mouse and the camera?
Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
In fact, there is a problem that any USB storage device on the phone creates the following folder structure:
/ storage / usb / Android / data / com.htc.album / .thumbnails /
Then create multiple copies, can be found in the internal memory, same-path, including folders that contain thumbnails, but empty.
So because of these being used constantly sticks, so when the capture traces of the settings, then any writes to the phone to choose from, but it can not happen, but the capture button will be disabled, but only while again not I step into the menu.
The above mentioned directories erased because the phone reboot always create them again.
If the phone was not rebooted since I've used it and the flash drive has been physically removed it, then if I connect again, it appears no file until you restart the phone.
ya i have the same problem...im using 4.2.2 custom ....and when i use my otg cable n plug my usb it works the 1st time then if i disconnect the connect it back or use another usb it wont work unless i restart my phone....not sure why its not working....but it works for samsung note 3 i tested on my friends phone...

[Q] Cannot mount SD Card via USB OTG and stickmount (root) - works on Galaxy S2

Hi,
I recently bought a USB OTG cable and an "Integral USB 2.0 Single Slot SD Reader " so that I could use my Nexus 7 to view photos from my camera.
At first I tried using Nexus Media Importer to view files on the device, but this did not work. I have successfully been able to use this application to mount a USB thumb drive via the USB OTG cable.
I then rooted the device and installed stickmount. This did not seem to work either and there were no signs that the device was recognised by the tablet (the red light did not come on). I configured stickmount in SuperSU so that it has root access. I did not copy any data or apps back onto the device after unlocking it, and I am using the stock android 4.4.2 ROM.
I tried mounting the SD card using the card reader and USB OTG cable with my Galaxy S2 running Cyanogenmod. This mounted as soon as I plugged it in so I doubt there is a problem with any of the components.
I have tried mounting the drive both with USB debugging enabled and disabled. Is there anything else that I can try?
Thanks,
Ciaran
Reboot your device while keeping the OTG cable connected.

Thanks, this does allow the drive to mount successfully; however, if I remove the drive then re-insert it it does not remount, nor does it show up in Stickmount. Is there a way to remount the drive on-demand - just like my Galaxy S2?
You can press the 'thanks' button if it helped. Till now, I have not come across any such method to mount the OTG cable on demand. It's a cheap ploy by Google and Asus that they do not allow native OTG support on the Nexus 7 2013. Just to promote the cloud services. Mounting OTG cable is so easy on the Moto G and Samsung devices. It's a given these days.

It's gotta be the connections your using. Either the Integral SD Card Reader, or the OTG cable you are using. I never have any issues using stickmount with my Meenova MicroSD card reader. Have you tried other adapters?

^This, stickmount mounts my meenova as well as my OTG+USB thumbdrives on demand, no issues whatsoever, no need to reboot or anything, it just automounts and it's ready to go.

HTC One M9 Android 6.0 USB OTG question

Per HTC support, the HTC One M9 has USB OTG features "suppressed". Is there any relatively easy way to get this phone to recognize and support a USB connected device via OTG cable (external hard drive, Flash Drive, Card Reader, etc.).
I have the Developer Options turned on and have also changed the USB setting in those options to MTP (it does seem to revert back to Charge Only periodically). I have also tried turning USB debugging on and off. Every device i've tried works just fine on other Android 6.0 devices (Samsung Tablet, friend's Samsung phone, etc.) and even on my wife's 3 yr old HTC phone, all without issues.
For the record, I'm just a newbie. I simply want to be able to move files to USB connected external storage and use a card reader to view pictures, etc.
I have ES File Explorer loaded. When I plug in a USB card reader or flashdrive it pops up ES File Explorer but then fails to open the USB drive. Also, under Storage - the USB device is never listed when plugged in.
Any guidance would be appreciated. It ticks me off that something so simple is not easily plug and play on this phone.
Thanks,
Scott
That's weird. I'm on 6.0 but I've got otg working fine with my SanDisk USB 3.0 otg drive and my portable hdd with a otg cable and I can transfer files just fine.
