Can anyone tell me what is the correct process for rooting my z1 compact!!
The DoomLord's guide for rooted kernel says to get a TA backup first, TA backup guide says to get a root first, zxz0O0's guide for easy root tool asks for some tr.apk...What is going on 'round here!! >_<
Its probably noobish but PLEASE if somebody knows the correct procedure by which I get a rooted phone and also I'm able to get my phone's warranty back at will, please tell me..
Thanks a loads lot...

Also, in the first post of Easy Root Tool thread no tr.apk is mentioned.

Is everything wiped after root?
Hi Guys,
I need clarification/cofirmation here as I am in a spot of bother... Let's say that my Z1C was accidentally restored to factory settings and in the process I lost all contacts and messages.
I have now set out to try and retrieve them. After checking some software, which according to the developers, is capable of doing that it turns out that I should most certainly root the phone, otherwise the program(s) will not be able to search for this data (this information is virtually on every program's website).
Since my phone is still on warranty (and will be for some considerable time to come) I am not that eager to go all the way and unlock the bootloader. So my objective is to have root access with the bootloader locked. Now, I had a long read of the thread started by Darkimmortal on how to root Z1C without unlocking bootloader forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2634196 and before I download gigabytes and take the plunge the milion dollar question is
DO I WIPE THE WHOLE PHONE IN THIS PROCESS?
I know that in the OP it says
Take a full backup, as all phone memory INCLUDING INTERNAL SD will be wiped.

but then we have a catch22 situation - need root to recover data, rooting will wipe all data
So basically is there a way to root the phone without loosing the data I am after?

Would the fastroot solution work for FW version 14.2.A.1.114?? I don't want to upgrade to KK and I don't know if the fastroot will work with this JB firmware.

Hello, i just updated my phone to 6.0 marshmallow ( htc one m8 ) and it sucks.. so i want my 5.4 lollipop version back.. My phone is not rooted, and i do not have TWRP installed. Someone please help me get back to 5.4 Lollipop! If necesery, i will root my phone, just please tell me how to do it.
Thanks in advance !!
Hello, and thank you for using XDA Assist.
Yes, if you want to roll back, you will have to root your phone. You will also have to make your phone S-Off.
To root, you'll need to unlock your bootloader first. You can do that through http://www.htcdev.com/ You'll have to register an account first if memory serves me well. (It's been almost two years)
The instructions for unlocking your bootloader are there.
After that, you need to flash the v2.8.7.0 TWRP recovery in fastboot, then use TWRP to flash SuperSU, or flash a rooted ROM (most are rooted)
I am going to have this thread moved to the M8 help forum (M8 Q&A), and I or others will give further assistance there if it is needed.
Good luck!

Flash SuperSU in recovery *download link here*, or flash a rooted ROM.
ViperOneM8 4.3.0 for example, is a solid, rooted Lollipop ROM.

Hello, first of all I've never owned a HTC phone and so I hope nobody minds me posting a speculative question. Based on previous HTC phones, is it likely that Xposed and Gravity Box will work with the HTC 10? The reason I ask is I own some very sensitive earphones and so need the feature in Gravity Box to increase the volume steps to 50? Othewise being restricted to the normal 15 steps is quite punishing for my ears. Thanks.
The HTC 10 unlocked version will support bootloader unlocking so Xsposed will definitely be able to be installed. The HTC 10 sprint version should as well, sprint has never disabled the ability to use HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader. Verizon is another story. They block HTC Dev and we don't know if the unlocked version will work on Verizon that is still TBD. It should but i would never leave anything Verizon has a finger in up to chance. Another possibility might be like the Verizon M9 that people were able to unlock using a java card. Only time will tell for verizon but if you have another carrier I would not worry.
The phone needs to be rooted to install xposed. In addition to the other stuff needed, unlocked bootloader...and highly recommend s-off when that happens. Foolish to not S-Off a phone and start messing with it. Brick city.
Yes. Xposed is MM compatible.
Haven't heard yet if they'll update Sense Toolbox for 8 (Mikanoshi doesn't think he'll get access to a sense 8 dev device) and mods are a case by case basis for compatibility. Give it time and eventually most of the popular mods will get updated.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
xposed would be no problem at all.. You would use the sense toolbox though instead of gravity box. Although now that sense is so stripped down, I suppose some things would also work from gravity box.
Hey guys
I've google searched this quite a bit, but I'm having an issue installing xposed to the HTC10.
I go into Recovery (using TWRP) and try to install the XposedFramework .zip file, but I keep getting : Failed to mount "/system"
Any ideas how to fix this and get Xposed installed ?

yes, works perfect, make sure you get the DVDandroid version xposed installer that you have to use with it. Gravitybox works quite well with the HTC10, xposed settings in playstore is also updated to work, as well as XinternalSD, which will allow programs to write to the internal SD. hope that helps

Looking to root my Verizon HTC 10 to disable their stupid "Connected to WiFi" notifications (which perplexingly isn't an option to disable like on some of their other phones), but I'm not clear if this is possible yet... has anyone here successfully gotten it to work? The link in a previous comment is dead. I'm so frustrated with Verizon, soldering FM radios dead wasn't enough?

You can only root your verizon 10 by doing s-off first using Sunshine ($25). Might not be able to anymore after the Nougat update comes out.

Maybe the Nougat update will fix all the Verizon HTC 10 crap... now Verizon and HTC are blaming each other for issues I'm bringing up to them.
I recently upgraded to marshmallow and its been a nightmare. Phone lags, its slower than it ever was, battery drains quickly. I loved this phone now its turning into one of the worst.
Can anyone please post a guide to safely downgrade to lollipop?

Did you try formatting the phone and setting it up again? That usually solves issues with major Android releases.

Yes, factory reset. Still no changes. The phone is slower than ever and the battery life is horrible.

Hey, thanks for replying. I'm a total noob at this. I don't know what these terms mean s-off or flashing. I did tried to google them but to no avail.
Can you guide me a little as how do I turn s-off?
My device is the middle eastern version.
I'll follow rest of the guide.
Is it safe though? Any risk of bricking?
same here

I still have a lagging problem and unusable camera after numerous factory resets, cache clearing and removing disabling apps. Is there a definitive solution out there? I'm willing to downgrade to lollipop if it means my phone is restored to working properly. My phone is not rooted and I'm a complete newbie as to attempting to do that. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly received as I'm at my wits end. Thanks in advance

Thanks for tip. I tried uninstalling "HTC speak" but still getting problem. Where can I install Mobile active fix?
Thanks again.
Install Xposed installer and install the framework. You can find guides about it all over the desire eye forum. Then open the installed app i.e Xposed Installer. Go to downloads and search MobileRadioActiveFix. Download and install it. Then go back to main menu. Go to framework and reboot device from the framework.

Is the framework and app apk available for xposed yet?
Is so has instructions for installing it been posted yet?
Rooted with TWRP and Magisk.
I do have the bug where TWRP does not register any inputs unless you turn the screen off and on again.
(Takes less the a second)
I also have no SD card access in TWRP.
Some have had to turn off hide in Magisk but hide works fine for me. I have two Bank Apps hidden form root and they both work.
I have installed jrummy's busybox and jrummy's Root Checker both work fine..
Don't care for the splash screen "bootloader is unlocked and can't be trusted" so I flash another to replace it.
So I'm ready to work on xposed any help or links to help would be greatly appreciated.
If this is posted in the wrong section please let me know.

I followed this link .
https://gist.github.com/eexit/e6d5fc0984e1c7f25376d3dafa819792
I had already unlocked my bootloader
I did none of the backup stuff and started by using Android file transfer to put Magisk in the phones downloads folder.
Then from "Root the device" I went slow so I was sure to follow the directions exactly. Worked fine on the first try.
Then I installed
"BusyBox for Android" by JRummy
"Root Check" by JRummy
It's probable foolish to not do the Backup part.
If you do get your phone stuck in a bootloop look in this thread for help.
