Hey guys. I know there are a lot of threads about this when 10.1 2014 came out.
Old threads seem to be abandoned though.
Is there any fix now to the offset between the tip of the spen and the point on the screen?
I am still on 4.3 so I also wanna know from those who upgraded already to KK if this is fixed.
Thanks guys!

What fix is this? My tablet and phones are always rooted and on custom roms but I haven't seen any fix from my search.
Please post link. Would really appreciate it.

on the galaxy note 8, civato had to fix it in the kernel as there wasn't any other way (that anyone knew) to fix it. some programs had built in calibrations, but other than those you were SOL with the offset.
Lecture Notes fixes the problem, the other applications I use do not. This feature is totally unacceptable for a "stable" release.

You must be lucky but there is an offset from the first time I got the tablet about 6 mos ago. It's a known issue when the tablet first came out.
It's not that bad for writing just a bit annoying when you are drawing something.

I've never had an offset problem on 4.3 or 4.4 using multiple different S Pens. But I only use the pen in Samsung and their sponsored (Adobe, Autodesk, Polaris, and Hancom) apps. I take that back, I use the pen as a mouse pointer sometimes in Jump RDP and it's fine. If people are having issues with Samsung's apps it might be the pen itself. I got one wet once and it developed a nasty offset. If the problem is in random third party apps it's most likely the developers fault. Samsung publishes an S Pen SDK but that doesn't mean third parties are using it.
i have zero offset in SNote and Sketchbook using the included SPen (and original nib), running stock KK 4.4, not rooted.
I've never had a problem with my November 2014-purchased model using Autodesk Sketchbook or other apps. I've used a few S-pens and a Watcom Feel Samsung Note model. There is offset during hoover with that, but not once I touch the screen. Perhaps I'm lucky.

I actually looked at it closer and seems like the offset was reduced on the current ROM I'm using. I remember to have like 2mm offset to the top when I was on stock and some other ROMs I tried.
I also have no offset on my Note 3 and the tablet's Spen works perfectly on the phone without an offset but then the phone's Spen also has offset when used on the tablet.
Its a lot less now, maybe 1mm to the top. I'm just trying to ignore the point when drawing or writing and just concentrate on the nib to screen contact. I just hope there's a way to disable showing the point on the screen.
I know this is an old thread, but there are always new owners to an old device like me. I recently bought a Note 8.0, SGH-I467 (AT&T) off eBay because some note taking review, even though published in 2017, still ranks this 2013 device highly for note taking. Being a 4-year-old device also makes it quite affordable. The 8" form factor is light in your hand and together with a WACOM style stylus, S Pen, is perfect for taking notes except for this 1/16" (2mm) offset to the right. I assume the review was written by someone who has 4.1.2 on his device, which doesn't have this problem.
Anyway if you are unlucky like me with SGH-I467 (AT&T, LOCKED bootloader), *NOT* SGH-I467M (Canadian version, bootloader UNLOCKED), and your tablet came with 4.3 or higher, you are stuck with this problem. You cannot download a custom kernel that fixes this problem. Nor can you downgrade back to 4.1.2.
If you are on 4.2.2, you can still downgrade back to 4.1.2.
I spent countless hours researching for a fix. Some lucky souls have solved it by drawing to the corners of the display in S Note. The theory here is it actuates Note 8.0's automated calibration. It doesn't work for me. Others have tried to toggle the left or right hand dominant setting with success. Unfortunately, such option is not available on my device.
The Reset S Pen app on the Play Store doesn't work either because it is a kernel problem, not a configuration file.
I even popped the cover of the button on the S Pen to adjust the potentiometer, but I still couldn't observe noticeable differences.
The problem with an offset to the right is the ink will be under the S Pen when you draw if you are right handed. It's no big deal when you are writing, but intolerable if you are drawing.
This morning I figure out a workaround I can live with as a right-handed person and would like to share.
Turn your tablet upside down with auto rotate enabled. Your app of course will turn right side up again, but the offset is now to the left instead!
If you are right handed, this makes a big difference because you can now see it. Instead of looking at the nib when you start drawing, focus on the cursor instead when the nib gets close to the display. Now you know when to drop down your S Pen and from where the drawing would start. The cursor would disappear after S Pen makes contact, but at this point you don't need the cursor anyway because you would be following the ink!
If you are left handed, you don't need to turn the device upside down since you can already see the offset. Just re-train yourself to follow the cursor and ink instead of the nib.
Hope this helps!

Are there any Stylus' that work like the HTC Digital Pen?
I notice that when one is used on the Jetstream, there's an icon which allows you to change pen settings ect. I think that's the only reason I'd choose an HTC Tablet atm.
I don't think the Galaxy Tab has a digitizer layer like the flyer, jetstream, or thinkpad tablet. You can use a capacitive stylus to make annotations, but it's not the same as having a digitizer pen.

Your right m8... Our Tab 10.1's don't have the hardware or software for that matter to do any type of drawing or accurate hand written notes like the Flyer or Jetstream. I had the Flyer before I got my Tab... I keep the styles in hopes that it would work with my Tab, it didn't.

Yeah, cool toy, but not even close to what the OP was asking. And you're wrong. There is no digitizer layer in the GT10, so your best bet is a capacitive stylus. Or a sausage.
I've posted this elsewhere, but I'll repeat it here - I bought the Wacom Bamboo Stylus for my iPad2, and it worked brilliantly with the iPad. I have since sold the iPad and got the GalTab 10.1, and the Bamboo barely works at all. It cant be used for POINT selection (pushing a button on a webpage or game) and it doesnt DRAW well unless you push down really hard - almost like the screen needs pressure depression in order to register.
I relied HEAVILY on the stylus on the iPad for both drawing and basic navigation, and that it doesnt work on the GalTab is disappointing. I dont know what the problem is, or what technically causes the difference, or if it's just the Bamboo, but it just doesnt work.
(And I cant imagine it's a problem with the Bamboo as all the stylii are essentially the same thing - just varying quality.)
Check out the App "TouchScreenTune" in the Development Forum or in the Android Market. You need Root to use it, but it solves your problem (especially about drawing)
Thank you... after reading through about 12 pages of posts (hard coming into a device this late and keeping up), I finally found that. Not sure I want to root yet - until now, getting rid of the Navbar was my #1 reason to root, but TSTune just moved up to the #1 spot. Waiting for Cyanogen, though.

Just root it. It's super easy. Tasks rom is incredible and with the tst app its just awesome.
It's not a matter of it being "easy", but if I want to. I'm on my fourth Android phone, the first 3 were rooted and ROMed - several times, the fourth doesnt need it... yet.
So far I have only TWO things I want to change that I can only get through rooting/ROMs... I'm not sure that's enough.
For me task's roms were the only driver for rooting.
With this installed the device was literally reborn!
The user experience is like night and day, I will never regret it.
After that i also installed TouchScreenTune...well now with a stylus (Adonit Jot Pro) and Supernote I no longer use paper for taking notes! It's just amazing.
Does this seem like a simple mistake from when my phone was produced from the factory in China or Korea, where ever our phones where made. Or does it sound like an employee from T Mobile did, for whatever reason.
So I purchased my Note 2 from T Mobile last Friday. While loving the phone for the first couple days. I finnaly pulled my S pen out for the second or third time. And ever since I put it back inin, I noticed a simple tap on the back of phone. The S pen would just fall out. One time it even went in sideways, so turned 90 degrees then it should be. And had a tough time getting out.
When getting the box ready to exchange for new at T mobile. I looked at the s pen on the box, then looked at mine. And its not even the same S pen. I'm guessing the one I had was from the Note 1.
I just found this really odd. And there's no way mine got swapped with one from note 1, cause I don't even no anyone who owns the first note. Actually I've never even seen one. And no one I no has the note 2 either. And I haven't had anyway touch or hold my phone. Especially with all these posts of everyone cracking there screen lol.
So I don't no what to think about this. Just think its really weired. Has this happen to anyone else?

Actually I did wait days before using the s pen. I didn't buy the note for that. I bought it for the multi screen. Which is why I rooted day 1 and after playing with all the settings I got to the s pen last.
The only reason I new it was the wrong s pen. Is because the logo was on the side but on the box its not.
I already exchanged for a new one. But my new s pen can only be inserted one way. The other one could twist around while 3/4 in

I have no idea whether or not Samsung makes two different models of the s-pen. It seems unlikely that they would, given that the phone has only been out since the last of September/first of October. The only logical reason that I can think of for them to redesign something that they'd already gone to market with would be if there were something functionally wrong with the original device. Nowhere online do I see any indication that they've made such a change. I got my GN2 on October 29th, which would be several weeks before your stated purchase date (according to your initial post, you purchased yours on "last Friday" and that post is dated November 30, so that would put your purchase date on November 23), and my pen design matches those in all of the ads and all of the photos I've been able to locate online (for a few examples, look here). However, with that said, I suppose that it is possible that Samsung has redesigned the s-pen and is now including a different pen with their phones.
As an aside, you might want to begin proofreading your posts for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors before posting. Well written messages lend credence to your posts, whereas poorly written messages can call the veracity of your message into question.
Good luck with your new GN2 and s-pen. It's a great device and I'm enjoying mine more and more as time goes by and as I learn more about it. I never said they came out with a new s pen for note II. I just posted when I bought my note II, it came with the first notes s pen. Anyways I exchanged it awhile ago. All is fine now. My s pen fits perfectly in now. And for sure is not the same s pen then I had before.

Hello. I bought both a Sprint and Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Amoung the many differences is the S PEN. The Sprint one does not have tne non-touch of the stylus to perform funtions on the phone.
For example, I can swipe pages or select a function without ever touching the screen with Verizon' stylus. And both sylus' are compatible with ea h phone. Tne manuals are correct for version.
My question: Has any body else experieced this. Is there a way to tell which stylus model you have? Would buying one off from Samsung products page help? Thanks!
My guess is what you are experiencing as non-touch S-Pen activities are actually the result of a mis-calibrated S-Pen. The S-Pen can actually be calibrated by carefully removing the button and turning the potentiometer nearest the tip clockwise with a tiny screwdriver. ( Clockwise decreases sensitivity )
I did this myself, and it solved the problem of Air-View activating touch elements. My service is with Sprint, by the way.
Are you finding other differences?

There are no differences between the two. As mentioned in your other thread (Verizon GNII section), my roommate has the Verizon flavor and each stylus works the same with both of our phones.

I guess my point is...which is correct? Should you be able to use it without touching the screen like Verizon manual shows, or do you have to use the hover feature with the light beam like the Sprint manual tutorial shows? Each is different. Thdy both work as it is stated for each carrier. ThT is what got me to finally post to see if anyone else who might have both to do a side by side comparison. Thanks!

your Sprint one is correct the thing you are experiencing on the Verizon one is a bug that had also been reported (and fixed) on the Sprint version... although if you like it better there is nothing wrong with "uncalibrating" your Sprint stylus so that air view touches on your Sprint one too... it's more of a matter of personal preference

Finally an answer. Thank you! I will be trying the "uncalibrating" method as it is really cool. Have a great day.
I guess I am going to have to actually go into the Verizon and Sprint stores to look at their models as even after "calibrating" both, they still function the same. Like I said before, the Verizon S Pen not actually having to touch the screen is totally cool. If you want to swipe to a different page it does it in the air. If you want to select a function or App, you just "tap" it without touching the screen. It has no round circle indicator that shows up like the Sprint model. I can't believe that I am the only one to have this working like this.
I tried the hard tap calibrating and also where you take the actual button cover off and calibrate to try to make them the same but they both still do their thing. And both S Pens function the same way if I use them on either phone. Trust me, if you could get this to work you would love it. I just wish I could figure out how to get the Sprint S Pen to do the same as it seems like it is missing something after using the one from Verizon.
Solved thanks to XDA-member!

I surprisingly couldn't find a thread asking this question, but if there is one I apologize in advance. I watched the dreadfully corny Galaxy S4 unveiling, and wondered which S4 features could realistically make it to the Note 2 when we get Android 4.2?
Air view for example, which is basically what we can do with our spen when hovering over objects, but without having to use the pen, seems like more of a software related feature that we could get with Android 4.2.
Being able to swipe screens without touching the screen, which is great when you have dirty fingers, is a tricky one. It could be that the screen, which is hardware naturally, is simply more sensitive on the S4 than the Note 2. If that's the case we probably wouldn't get this feature with a 4.2 update. It could also be software that makes this possible as demonstrated with some apps that allow you to interact without touching the display. If that's the case, I guess it could be heading our way.
The camera feature that allows you to use the front and back camera at the same time on the S4 (which I find very cool) SEEMS software related to me, but I'm not really sure about this (or any of these questions), which is why I created this thread
Would any devs out there care to comment on which features from the S4 they could see coming to the Note 2 via a 4.2 software update, and which ones we definitely won't be able to have (like infrared)? I don't want an S4, but it does have a few software features that I would love to see on the Note 2 when 4.2 arrives.
@Mods - This thread is aimed at developers, but I wasn't sure exactly whether to put it there or in General, or in Q&A. My apologies if this is the wrong section.

Hope all of them are in!
I guess the screen swipe without touching the screen should be pretty easy, the front facing camera/sensors should be able to detect that pretty easily, the software changes probably will at least have some sort of port for the Note 2. The Air view with the fingers i'm not sure, it might need some sort of hardware beyond the existing on the note 2, and if it doesn't anything else, i'm pretty sure someone will port it!

That is, if the air gestures are even camera-related. It might be an entirely different thing, though. Based on the initial hands-on videos, it may be the case. It doesn't trigger unless the hands are very very close to the display. Hmm...
I hope the camera interface makes it to the Note 2. I like it.
Infrared and temperature.
this is XXXDDDAAA
air view needs the screen to be adjusted differently from regular capacitive so we probably wont get that
the air gestures we will get because they work like the wake up motion thing we have
eye scroll will work
I've had the Note 4 for about two months now. Up until the other night I never even took out the S pen. I was in a store and had to calculate some prices and I hoped that writing them in a note was faster than typing the info in. It was, and significantly so.
Why do you use the S pen for?

I've had the Note 4 for about two months now. Up until the other night I never even took out the S pen. I was in a store and had to calculate some prices and I hoped that writing them in a note was faster than typing the info in. It was, and significantly so.
Why do you use the S pen for?
Click to collapse
In no particular order:
Handwriting notes (when it's the only thing available, you come to appreciate that it really isn't all that bad of an experience).
Using the S Pen in combination with the swype keyboard functionality has proven remarkably efficient to me.
The S Pen allows for the equivalent of scrolling over a webpage element without needing to "click" on it. This is very useful for navigating websites.
Selection of text, however mundane.
Image clip is kind of useful at times.
Image annotation.
I'm sure I do more with it, but it's not immediately coming to mind. I highly recommend using it every now and again for everyday tasks you would ordinarily execute without it (gaming excepted). You might find it works better than you thought for a particular job.
My wife is very sick and I have to be her care giver. I use it to write down appointments and phone numbers and other info I need to remember. I don't know where I'd be without it. I need to learn how to do the other stuff it'll do.
I love using the Note Series Phones. Though I have the Note 4. Because of the lack of Root. I am using my Note 3 for certain things.
But, on either phone, here are some apps that are just great. For quick access to a short note taking app. I use Snap Desk. Very convenient. The next app that is awesome for writing anything frome notes, to a whole book if you would like. That app is Papyrus.
