Dev Edition or Standard Unlocked now that we have Sunshine? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that we have sunshine, does it make sense to pay more for the DEV edition vs for the unlocked? Let me know if there is something I am missing, but we can essentially turn the unlocked version back to bootloader locked with s-on if we need to, correct?
Thanks,
Y2J

HTC M8 - Unlocked version

I was thinking of getting the developer edition, however it doesn't have the silver version. So I am wondering if S-off and unlocked bootloader has been achieved for this device? Also, is this fully both AT&T and T-Mobile Compatible?

TL;DR, You can either get the unlocked variant and get the color you really want at the expense of your factory warranty,
Or get the dev edition and maintain the HTC warranty at the expense of having a color you don't like.
Yes, S-OFF has been achieved for most (if not all already) variants of the M8, the Developer edition and unlocked edition both included. The benefit to the developer edition is that the bootloader is unlocked from the factory, and you retain your warranty. If you buy the unlocked version and unlock the bootloader, your warranty is then void from HTC.
Hallo

Go back to unlocked, S-On, and not tampered for Dev Edition?

Is there a process to go back to stock software, s-on, unlocked bootloader, and not tampered from a dev edition that is currently rooted, bootloader unlocked, not tampered, and s-off? I know this was possible with the M7.
Thanks,

No, you must leave soff, lock boot loader, but going s-on throws a tampered label again.

S-OFF HK

I'm running fully stock HK version of the M8. Does anyone have a confirmed way of gaining S-OFF with this model? Does sunshine work? I want to make sure that if I unlock the bootloader, and root my phone, I'll be able to gain S-OFF to get GPE. I just need confirmation on an HK variant being GPE or at least S-OFF!
Just try sunshine s-off it will tell you if it's possible or not...
I wanna make sure! I need someone to confirm if anyone has been on GPE with the Asian M8. Please reply! If so, how?
Sunshine tells you before asking for payment.
No better way to know for sure.... No? ?

[Q] Downgrade to older HBOOT

Hello.
So I have a One M8 with a 3.19 HBOOT and I want to S-OFF this device. Firewater seems to be broken on this firmware and I'm not paying $25 for Sunshine. So my question is, is it possible for me to flash an older version of HBOOT onto the device? The device is an unlocked European one (both carrier and bootloader unlocked) with HTC_032 CID running CyanogenMod 12, but I can go back to stock if I need to. Thanks.

Firewater won't work on any firmware as it has now been dis abandoned, Sunshine is the only way to go

Oh, that sucks. Is it still possible to downgrade HBOOT? I've heard that Sunshine doesn't work on all 3.xx devices right now.

not without s-off if you run sunshine, it will do some checks and let you know if it will work or not before you have to purchase, so, try and run it and see what happens. for $25.00 it is worth doing

No. You cannot "downgrade" hboot with s-on.
If you could, then everyone would be doing it (that is stuck with s-on) and there wouldn't really be an "issue" with 3.x devices.
As previously mentioned, try sunshine and see if your device is supported (you won't be charged if not).

CID change questions

Hello, I am an owner of HTC 10 bought in T-Mobile in Poland, Europe. My latest available software through OTA was 1.95.118.3, as shown on screenshot below, with the security patch from August. I wanted to change my CID to USA unlocked, but I have a couple of questions:
1) If I unlock the bootloader and change CID, will I be able to re-lock the bootloader?
2) If so, do you think that if I change CID to USA-unlocked and relock the bootloader my phone will be normally accepted on HTC warranty as if it was just stock? Or will they say that if my CID is from usa, my phone has to be serviced in USA?
3) Can HTC prove that I've unlocked my phone's bootloader and thus refuse to accept the warranty? I mean, even if I relock it, does HTC collect any info during the process of unlocking?
Thanks for the reply!
Your phone is out of HTC warranty either way when the bootloader gets unlocked. Even without changing the CID.
You need to be S-Off in order to change your CID, and Sunshine gives the option to S-Off your phone without unlocking the bootloader.
With S-Off "locked" you will still be able to flash a custom recovery and ROM, but staying locked will hide that from HTC for warranty. You just have to go back to S-On using Sunshine

What you said made me extremely happy One question - on sunshine changelog it says:
Version 3.4
No wipe/format for HTC 10 (when choosing S-OFF/LOCKED)
S-OFF/LOCKED will behave as S-OFF/UNLOCKED on HTC 10
Does it mean if I choose S-OFF/LOCKED it will still be shown in bootloader as UNLOCKED?

No it will show S-OFF/locked. But you can do everything you can do with an S-OFF/unlocked device.
