Alright guys, this is going to be slightly long, but hopefully I will explain every detail.
Device Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 wifi
1. I am a Linux (ubuntu 14.04) user for my daily computing, I tried doing all of this in Heimdall, but every time I tried to connect to my Tab it would not let me push recovery or boot images.
2. I got a windows laptop and used odin 3.09 to do the following.
a. In odin I pushed the unofficial clockwork recovery to the tab.
b. flashed CM 11 M7 to the tab.
result:
Tablet booted very slowly but then was in CM 11 normally, once there I did not have access to storage.
- If I try to download some thing from the internet, or take a screenshot it tells me that SD storage is not available.
- Google play store crashes every time I try to start it.
- if I go into CM file explorer it says "Error Detected The File or folder was not found"
3. Used odin to flash official TWRP recovery, and repackaged boot.ini from CM and flashed that as a kernel.
a. used TWRP to format all partitions.
b. installed CM 11 M7 and gapps from external sd card
c. Fixed permissions (I know this actually does nothing, but I tried it anyway)
result (same as before):
Tablet booted very slowly but then was in CM 11 normally, once there I did not have access to storage.
- If I try to download some thing from the internet, take a screenshot it tells me that SD storage is not available.
- Google play store crashes every time I try to start it.
- if I go into CM file explorer it says "Error Detected The File or folder was not found"
So basically right now I have a semi functional tablet with CM11 on it, that will get on the internet, run gmail, and whatever apps are currently installed, but will not download anything, wilnot install new apps, or access google play.
if I use terminal emulator, I can CD into /storage, then when I try to CD into sdcard1 it works fine, but if I try to CD into sdcard0 it says "no such file or directory".
If I try to mkdir sdcard0 it says "mkdir failed for sdcard0, File exists"
Any thoughts?

sdcard0 is internal storage, I can evidently read from it, since the system starts up.
But I cannot read from it when the system is on, and I definitely can't write to it.
Try installing FolderMount from the PlayStore. It can detect and fix issues with your partitions. You just need to run it, then reboot. I seem to get issues writing to my data partition after I install TWRP, on my SM-P900. FolderMount fixed it quickly and easily.

Hey, so I'm fairly (very) new to modifying my phone and I was having troubles
I'm on Android 4.1.1 on a SGH-T999V phone, but was unable to install CM10.1.
I rooted the phone, did as all guides said to do, and installed the tmo CM10.1 nightly to my computer as well as GApps. I transferred them to my phone via usb and then unplugged booted into recovery mode. I wiped cache and did the factory data reset, successfully on my way to completion, but then when I wanted to navigate into "choose zip from sdcard" I got an error and was not able to go in at all. I was able to go into "choose zip from internal sdcard" where there was also the CM10.1, but the operation failed. I think it said something along he lines of can't mount sd card or something like that. I was however able to successfully install GApps from the same folder and was then forced to reboot without CM, having wasted all my time.
I downloaded cm-10.1-20121224-NIGHTLY-d2tmo and gapps-jb-20121011-signed
What do I do; where did I go wrong? Sorry for my crappy explanation, but I am not extremely tech savvy.
Common issue. Download Rom manager from marketplace and install the new rom from there

Is there a specific marketplace you recommend? I use getapk but many of the files are outdated or otherwise unusable
When I use ROM Manager Premium, I press "Download ROM" and it prompts me to install CWM Recovery, but my phone isn't on list of supported devices (there's only SGS3 MetroPCS). Because of this, it won't let me use ROM Manager. What do I do?
I tried installing via ROM Manager, and I had it delete cache/data, etc but it still didn't work. Says
-- Installing: /sdcard/cm-10.1-20121224-NIGHTLY-d2tmo.zip
Finding update packag...
Opening update packag...
E:Can't open /sdcard/cm-10.1-20121224-NIGHTLY-d2tmo.zip
(No such file or directory)
installation aborted.
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.

Bump
It looks like you might have gotten a corrupt install. Try redownloading it and loading it back on your SD card. Also make sure you have updated and installed any ROM Manager files beforehand
So I have an ATT Samsung Galaxy SIII, rooted and flashed with Clockworkmod and Cyanogenmod 10.1 RC4. I updated Cyanogenmod today and could not back up due to low storage space. (Like an idiot) I still updated without manually backing up any data.
After I updated to RC4, all my GBA Roms, my Rom saves, my photos, basically all my data EXCEPT FOR system settings, texts, and app info was gone. My contacts were gone as well. I tried searching with my file explorer to find the data, but could not find anything. I also tried connecting via USB and looking with my laptop. I still couldnt find my old data, yet my internal storage space is still brimming to the top.
I DID FIND MY DATA!
The ONLY way I kindof see my data is by starting into recovery mode, choosing "install zip from sdcard," then choosing "choose zip from sdcard," AND THEN I CAN SEE ALL MY OLD APP INFO AND DATA. But I cant do anything with any of it, or access it from my computer.
Can anyone please explain to me how to get my app data, pictures, and ROMS, say, onto my laptop?
UPDATE: I used SD Maid to search for one of my GBA ROMS, and found them. So I now have a path to work with:
my old files are in /mnt/shell/emulated/
but now I can't figure out how to get them out and on to my computer. My computer doesn't show system files. I installed everything to make my computer and phone compatible with Android Commander, but it just shows a blank line where my phone should show up, and it gives me the "Android ADB device offline, can't issue commands" error. I'm so frustrated.
I have the same issue. I cant find a solution anywhere. In CWM I can see lots of old files that I had saved. I see them any other way than through CMW. And 6GB of SDcard is missing. I know those files are what is taking up the space but I can't access them.
I have a new T-Mobile Note 2. I installed TWRP and SuperSU using the toolkit. I then used Root Browser and deleted a bunch of apps ("bloatware", I thought), and apparently removed too much, as the phone no longer boots android.
I downloaded the two Tweaked 2.4.1 Rom files, checked Md5sums, OK, and coped same to external SD card. I did the recommended wipes using TWRP. Thereafter, also using TWRP, BasicInstall finishes with success, but the Tweaked.2.4.1.UVBMD1.073113.zip install fails with "E: Unable to open zip file". Then I try to reboot, and get a message "your phone does not appear to be rooted", and take the option "Install SuperSU? That also fails.
I think maybe I can't install Tweaked.2.4.1.UVBMD1.073113.zip because the phone isn''t rooted? Is that right? But I can't figure out how to root the phone either. I'm stuck in a loop. Recommendations to fix appreciated.
Thx, Gus

If you got an unable to open zip file error - even though the md5s check out the only thing I can think of is the zip has become corrupted somehow. Did you check the md5 on a computer and move the file over? Might be worth checking it on the phone (you can use the terminal interface in twrp fwiw - just use the md5sum command).
Bottom line recommendation - try to copy the full zip over to the sdcard again. Also, just to sate my curiosity - did you wipe /system before flashing?

I did recopy the two Tweaked .zip files to the sdcart - repeated attempt to install on phone, same problems.
I also unzipped the two Tweaked files on linux, and although I don't know exactly what I'm supposed to see, there's no errors and a bunch of directories and files that generally look reasonable
I think I did wipe /system on the phone before flashing - could that be my problem? Also, when I go into terminal mode in TWRP on the phone, I get a hang at "Updating partition details"
Is it possible I've accidentally deleted the unzip program on the phone?
Is there stuff I could/should do from an adb shell on my PC through a USB hookup to the phone?
thx, Gus
You could flash stock rom with odin and start over.

Hmm... maybe reflash recovery? That's very strange - especially if the first zip worked fine and the second had the issues...

I wish I could! But when I try that it hangs at "Waiting for USB debugging to be enabled". And that's even if the phone is booted into download mode.

Odin back to stock. Twrp started failing everything I tried to flash also. That's why I stopped using it. But you need to Odin to stock

Finally got it working. dwitherell was more or less right about the problem. Here's my steps: 1) did a low-level format on the external sda card 2) recopied the two Tweaked zip files onto the external sda card 3) Cheked md5sums for both files on the external sda card 4) ainstalled from TWRP, as before. BUT - this time it worked.
I'm guessing either the external sda card or one of the zip files was corrupted - as dwitherell had suggested. Thanks to him and other forum members for helping out.

Greetings:
I'm trying to help a friend to fix her Galaxy Nexus (SC-040 from Japan). Her phone would boot past the Google logo (with the unlocked icon at bottom), then freezes a second and restart at the "Franco Kernel" screen. The only hint I have is that her storage is getting somewhat full around 100MB or so left when the phone suddenly go into this mode without her touching anything system related.
I'm an IT person but don't have experience using android phones or rooting them, so appreciate your help here. Checked online and played a bit with the phone and here's what I tried:
1) Tried booting into the CWM recovery mode (v.5.5.0.2) - Wipe cache partition, as well as wipe Dalvik cache, reboot again same issue
2) Since there is no easy way to get the phone working, I plan to backup the user data (pictures, app and messages) and restore to factory settings. I tried mouintg USB storage - and get "E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)". Read on here somewhere that it is an issue with CWM and/or Galaxy Nexus doesn't support this (can someone confirm)? Perhaps using the more updated version 6 would help, which leads to next issue
3) Tried to flash to the latest CWM mod for Galaxy Nexus, but then I realize that the Galaxy Nexus has no external SD card option. Then I tried the "install zip from sd card" > "choose zip from sd card" just to see what comes up, and it appears to show me the internal flash storage folders (contains folder such as Android, DCIM, Download, etc...). Since it can "see" the internal storage, I can assume the flash storage seems to be working ok (at least at reading the folders)
4) Since I cannot transfer from an external SD card into the Nexus, I tried downloading the SkipSoft Android Toolkit. After playing around with it a little, it appears to have the option to let me: a) push and pull file from Nexus, b) flash CWM. However, after I tried using the options (and installing all files necessary at the prompt), it's telling me my phone is not in developer / debug mode and that I need to enable that after booting into Android (which I can't)
So here's my 3-4 hours of playing with the phone / online to try to fix it to no avail. My question is:
1) Is there another tool that will let me access the internal storage while in the CWM recovery mode so I can backup the files to my PC
2) Anything else I can try to get pass the reboot loop without getting to storage (step 1)?
Many many thanks!!!!
Just download fastboot and adb. Then download the latest cwm (6.0.4.5 i think) and flash it via fastboot. After that boot into CWM and type: adb pull /sdcard/ C:/ to get all the files from the phone into the root of the C: drive. If you need any explanation or guides just let me know

Thanks man for your prompt response. Will try it tonight
i had my tablet running rocket 3.1. I wanted to be able to move apps to sd and couldn't with rockets. I then downloaded the kitkat firware and installed, then rooted(with a ton of issues, "No Binary installed"). Ended up getting it corrected and rooted. I installed TWRP 2.8 and went to flash Nole Kat. That's when I started getting the error, unable to open zip. I tried to flash tranchidakat and same thing. I'm copying from windows computer to external sd. I tried a different sd and nothing different. I seen on another thread to download md5checker. Did that and no clue on how to use it. Going to do some more checking into that.
