I know this is not a Cyanogenmod support forum, but I think this has to do more with the structure of the system rather than the mod.
So far as I can tell, the automated installer for CM11 changed the static boot splash screen and the animation that follows it when booting into the rom. It also somehow changed the static splash screen when booting into recovery (CWM or any other). I've verified that the recovery splash screen is somehow read from a different place by temporarily flashing a different rom.
I love to tinker and customize. Does anyone know where the recovery splash screen image lives?

Inside the recovery image, unpack the ramdisk and it's the initlogo.rle

My Desire is rooted and S-Off. All I need to do is replace the boot and off animation files under \\data\local. Then flash the ROM, and there they are.
PS. I am using CWM recovery 4.0.1.4

If your s_off you can change them while the roms running. Infact if they are in data/local, you can change them even if you aren't s_off. Then just turn the phone off and back on.
So i got helped in other board:
- the bootanimation.zip dont be compressed, the downanimation can be compressed
if i change this the bootanimation is showing
I am having a really strange problem in that I cannot get any custom recovery to boot on my Oppo Find 7. I get a blank screen with twrp, cwm, etc.
When I try and flash the official recovery it goes into recovery but is only using half the screen. The left of the screen is black with half the Oppo logo, and the right has the recovery options flashing about all over the place. Am I doing something obviously wrong? or is the recovery partition corrupt?
I have used both adb and the "recovery installer" tool from this forum.
btw I can boot into the OS fine. It just seems to be a recovery issue.
edit: Solved it. Basically only nameless recovery works, the others are the wrong resolution.

Hey I have the same issue, and guessed it was the resolution as well. Where did you get mentioned recovery? Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the quick response. Now that I have a proper recovery, will I get the same issue when falshing the latest TWRP?
Edit: why is my screen all of a sudden all reddish? and when booting the device there seems to be white edges around what is supposed to be black boot screen?!
Did you get your phone from Amazon? Or did it came with COS 1.2.8?
As far as I know, those come with some new hardware that isn't fully supported by custom roms or recoveries.
If it's the case, you better restore the original rom and recovery and just wait until things get fixed.
Last week I rooted my Galaxy S3 using Odin and today I went as far as to unlock the boot and flash the phone to use a custom boot image. Unlocking the boot was fine and flashing it with Flashify using a TWRP IMG file until it asked to reboot. When it turned off it didn't boot back and I have tried removing the battery. the SD card and putting it back and it did nothing.
I honestly didn't check if this has happened to someone else in the forums because most of the times I come here its a hassle to find the right thread so if someone has already posted a solution please link me or if not any other kind of help will be welcomed.
What do you mean unlock the boot? And a boot image is not the image you see at boot if that's what you thought. A boot.img is part of the kernel. What were you trying to do? What file did you use?
Do you mean you unlocked the bootloader? The sprint s3 isn't locked. I can't figure what you're talking about.

sorry for the late reply...
I was trying to install a custom boot animation and the instructions I found where to install an app called Quickboot to make a TWRP recovery back up of the ROM to be modified in case an error happened and I had to go back to the previous setting. After I did that the app required the phone to restart to apply the changes, it turned off it never turned on after that up to this day.

If you want boot animation change, DO NOT install a boot image. Not the same thing. Boot image is part of the kernel (boot.img and ramdisk). For a boot animation, you need either a custom binary, or be using a rom that supports custom boot animations.
Did you make a full backup in twrp first? You can restore your backup.

So I love everything about the zenfone 2 4GB version now my question is there a fix for the boot animation or? don't get me wrong I like the default one but if I use a custom one you still see the Asus start up animation is this a 5.0 memory leak issue? or?
I see , you are not getting custom boot animation applied...right?
Are you flashing it right? It should go to /system/media with proper updater script.

No I am flashing it right and it does work the question I am wondering is this a bug? because it plays default asus logo before the custom Animation Because I know most phones I have owned has never had 2 different animations at startup
Yes.. never seen like this. I have had tried myself a lot of bootanimations... after the splash...it goes straight to custom boot animation.

do you know if there is a way to remove or edit the splash? I am just wondering.
I didn't unpack the splash.img yet.... just fastboot flashed a original one after unlocking boot loader.
I know there is a way to edit it cause I did flash custom splash to my tab earlier. I will get back to you on that.

Bump I know this thread is 2 months old but did you find a solution to it or?
I can't seem to get rid of the Freedom OS red boot splash screen, the one that appears immediately when you press the PB before the OS loads. I flash stock boot.img, recovery. stock OOS and community builds with full wipes and even relocking the phone. Help (sorry if this question is in the wrong place, seemed like a toss-up)
read the freedom OS' FAQ. you have your answer there or.....
use this to get back to stock splashscreen or make your own.

Hey, can I use this to replace the splash screen (not boot animation) of the Oneplus 3 (not T) to the default Oneplus one and flash it in TWRP?
