[Q] Benchmark low - how to push the benchmark higher?

Hello!
So, I have a DHD with the Revolution HD ROM (2.0.8) and the Buzz Sense kernel. I have locked the CPU to min/max 1516MHz Perf. scaling and, upon running the AnTutu System Review 1.2("System Benchmark" under Market) I get a score of 1879.
Yet in the Rankings I see that the #2 device is a DHD with 2.2 @1516MHz with a whopping score of 2774!!!!!
So, how could I reach those heights? The only thing I can think of is the slow SD card that came with the mobile (read/write scores: 34/117), but other than that what could be holding me back?

I have reached pretty high scores while testing, but then the overall rom smoothness has pretty much sucked. It is normal that synthetic benchmarks give lower results when you use a custom rom, the optimizations that ensure general smoothness and usability cause it. One big reason is CPU scheduling, in custom rom (custom kernel) cpu time is divided for each task in a different way, thus reducing the overall benchmark score.

Aha... but then this means that this or the other ROM do not let a specific app (say, a heavy 3D game) take the phone to its full potential...

Incorrect, it is just the synthetic benchmark that suffers. Games will run fine, faster than stock.

Jkoljo's right.The overall system speed is much better,performance is better,but it sucks a little in benchmarks.If you are so desperate to see high benchmark scores(I was once too! )try kamma's 1.4 kernel.Quadrant 3200.Need I say more?

Really? 3200? Wow. Just out of curiosity, what scores are you getting with other kernels?
Well, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter - I haven't seen an app or game that runs slow or choppy or whatever. It's just for the heck of it

Oh yeah,I know what tou mean!
Anyway,with Lee's and Apache's kernels I get about 2500-2600 in Quadrant.CPU clocked all the way up to 1.5 GHz of course!

How do you overclock your EVO

Still learning in the scene but I rooted my phone sometime 1 month ago and now using MikFroyo custom rom. Now I hear you can overclock the device to get a better benchmark on the device. My question is how ??
Please be easy on me lol. I am coming from a iPhone which is pretty pampered over there.

You need a custom kernel first. Developement section's got a nice selection, with tons of posts showing peoples set-ups.

Don't get too caught up in benchmarks. A better score doesn't necessarily mean it is faster in real world usage. More for braggin rights than anything else.

You can't overclock with a stock kernel. Like chris66 said you gotta go with a custom one.

Check out netarchys kernels, great work he does.

What is a safe range for battery temp.? I'm running in the mid 90s F. Sometimes it even gets up to 104 or so....... ?

cpu settings are built into CM7 now, thats how i manage it

That's normal. Basically, if you get to 50C (122F), then it's time to shut off your phone and yank the battery then stick them both by the window. Android will start *****ing at you that it's too hot at that point.

Leedroid but what kernel

Hi all,
I've got Leedroid and would like to know how the hell people get the 3000+ scores on quadrant ?
I've used most of the roms with a lot of the kernels but the most i get is around 2500 - 2600 , i've heard that the kernel by Kamma is a good one but i'm at a loss as to which one i should use.
So if anyone could point out which one i could use for .
1. Stability.
2. Battery saving.
3. Benchmarking (without smoking my device of course)
Any answers would be appreciated.

the first thing you need to understand is quadrant is ****, it is not an acurate indication of the speed of your device, a few devs have made kernels that trick quadrant into giving it massive scores, but in reality there kernels are not the best that being said, you wont find a better kernel for stability or speed than leedroids one, it is flawless you can download it here

Have you noticed much difference between 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 kernels? The LeeDroid thread is getting very lengthy to read through these days to catch up on new updates lol!

Tbh I use leedroids newest one an its really good, quadrant gets 2500 +
The device is smooth as silk, bit then again it always was.
I didn't know that quadrant was pants, I thought it was a good benchmarking tool.

Confirm that the newest kernel of Lee is the best!but in a few days he prepare a new awesome BFS kernel...

If you want good quadrant, buy the paid app which gives higher scores than the free one. Do the I/O hack which core and lee droids use. Use Leedroid kernel at max freq, performance governor, and finally run it in airplane mode.
Follow all those steps and you will get around the 3000 score.
You should state if you use quadrant standard or advance when posting results as they do differ. Otherwise it's like comparing oranges to mandarins. They are both orange but one is always bigger.

Yea it's just the standard version of quadrant, I thought that it would do the job.
Also i don't want to trick it or actually buy an app just so it can give me higher scores, that's not actually helping at all, i'll try the airplane mode to see if that helps, my phone is rapid anyway so it's only for my own satisfaction and to see how high i could get the score to go to.

Overheating

I've OC 1,8 GHz... I know that when playing games, phone's temperature raises, but when I'm playing NFS HP it almost burns me. What can I do with that? Does custom ROM may reduce the overheating?
And which ROM is the best?

reduce your overclock to 1.4ghz...really no need to go above 1.4ghz currently

yeah, but with 1,8 GHz is the best score in Antutu...

So in the end its just about benchmark score..

Antutu means nothing......im not understanding this recent fad in basing your phone on Antutu etc etc maybe im just old school i dunno.....you asked about overheating and i gave you an answer......benchmark scores mean nothing at the end of the day....

Ok... and what about the best ROM?

search for it and install which u find its best for you

there is no "best" rom, rom's are down to personal preference. try them all see which you like.

Overhaeting at 1.8ghz while you are playin a game that stresses the RAM? Are you serious??? that is your phone's way of telling you that it cant take it, reduce the OC before it blows up...!

it wont blow up, but it does reduce the life of the CPU ALOT

I'm running the Titanium Kernel build#4 and occasionally take it up to 1.7GHz; the handset does get extremely hot (battery temps were somewhere in the range of 50C-60C, I think) so I never OC that high anymore. It probably cant be very good for it
As for "best" ROMs, it really does depend on what you prefer, but flashing the Titanium Kernel and running the Lionheart governor seems to give the best performance and battery life at a 1.4GHz OC, for me anyways.

For me no heating on 1.7 ghz but when I was on 1.9 ghz then it was heating....

That is true. The CPU can withstand ~100°C but not your hand. Standard phones has plastick fascia, so you are not sensing the heat that much as in our aluminium V. The phone can withstand that much, the question is how long...
As for me, I use the phone at stock 1Ghz, and for me it is more than enough.

Anyone interested in an Over clocked kernel or rom?

I've compiled Resurrection Remix with over clocked CPU (@2.2ghz) and GPU (@800mhz) and it's not that much of an improvement. I'd say PUBG runs little better now and some improvement in benchmarks. Well, I wasn't expecting miracles either but let me know if anyone wants an over clocked ROM or kernel. I am trying to add exfat support (I'd be happy if any devs can help me with that) as many user wants but I'm getting nowhere for now.

I can even take it to next level with CPU @2.4ghz and GPU @850mhz but I think that would be overkill.

I think it's little less than the stock ROM but now it depletes faster while gaming (as gaming pushes all cores to max).

Nice. That kernel would be great to VR

Well , good idea is to make only OC kernel and then setup it via kerenel audiutor eg. -- OC @ gpu would be nice because it is weakest part of MZP . I've just made benchmark on stock oreo antutu 7.1.3 = 75716 pts. while on latest Cosmos 3.2 rom result was 81703 pts.

Yeah, that would be interested. I was playing wirh that, I think it was, Atrix time... Don't expect miracles but could add a bit to battery life. And a bit more in freezing the phone or crashing the apps

Under volting is not a good idea, it creates a lot of issues. To increase battery life use smart pixels, build prop tweaks and also amplify and greenify. However for screen on time, lowering resolution and smart pixels are best options.

Yeah, nice idea
I think stock runs on 8.0 while Cosmos on 8.1 so that might've improved it somewhat,
I wish if there was some tweak to OC GPU of normal ROM.

I think a kernel with overclocking possibilities would be nice. In fact, what I would really love was to see a port of Elemental X or Blu Spark kernels.
