I am looking for an official update, i have rooted and managed to get omnirom running.
I need an official rom because i need to be able to sync with Kies. I dont care about loosing root.
I have tried the rooted official roms but odin can't sem to make them load, they wont load in twrp either.
I can do twrp and firmware but not roms through odin.
Thanks for any help
Jim

Kinda a noob question, but I rooted my Note 2 just mainly for the extra security and titanium backup mostly. When the new update becomes avaliable on the 19th, would updating via Kies mess up something on my phone? I get the message that my phone has been modified when I hit the software update in the about phone section of settings, would updating via Kies be possible since i get that message on my phone?
You'll have to go back to stock via odin before you can do the upgrade. Or, just wait for someone to make a custom Rom of the new firmware and flash that.

That's what I thought. Would it be better to wait for a custom ROM of that firmware? I don't have a windows computer to use odin, and I can't find anything like it to use on a mac

I'm going to attempt doing this tomorrow with Mobile Odin Pro. That is to say I won't have to jump through hoops in order to get the update provided it's on Samsung's site tomorrow.
Is mobile odin pro worth the $5? Would that be complicated to update my phone that way?

I just got a software update from T-mobile and I am not sure if I'm missing out on something and should I do the update since my phone is rooted and I don't want to lose my root. I'm currently on T999UVDLJA. Is there a root for this update yet or should I just wait a couple days and see what happens?

that update is from January & it wasn't anything major
I just downloaded the pre-rooted Root66 version of the firmware and flashed it via Odin.
I tried to look fror a root66 version of the firmware on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
but the latest firmware is T999UVDLJA which is the one I'm on. Do i just do the update and flash T999UVDLJA again?

You can find it in this thread.
You can try the "update only" file since it will save you some downloading - but just read to see if it applies to you. I couldn't so I just used the full firmware and then de-bloated.
I'll just flash the root66 rom just to be safe. I could flash UVLJC directly from VULJC correct? And thank you very much for the help.

You mean UVDLJC form UVDLJA ? Yes, it should be fine, I did that and just cleared the caches.
I'm pretty noob at rooting and flashing. I have everything stock with rooted UVDLJC. I did so by flashing a root66 stock rom via odin and that's pretty much the only method I know. I looked around the forum and can't seem to find a root66 of MD5 and T-mobile seems to be pushing the MD5 to my device soon and don't want to lose root. So what's the easiest method to update to the latest update with root?

If you are totally stock except for Root (that means stock ROM with no mods, Stock kernel and Stock recovery), then all you have to do is go to the market and get OTA Rootkeeper, install it and preserve Root. Once you get the OTA notification, go into OTA Rootkeeper and Hide Root, accept OTA and reboot. Fire up OTA Rootkeeper and Restore Root. All your data will be preserved and you will have MD5 with Root.
Or if you are not totally stock, then you can back up your apps with Titanium and flash (with a custom recovery, of course) the MD5 Rooted ROM in the Dev section.
Thanks! I'm on total stock. Will try that and see how that goes.

I updated via kies lost root then obtained root by installing custom recovery via Odin then flashing superuser via recovery. This way its the same as an ota upgrade which preserves all your apps. I was also on stock rooted with custom recovery before the upgrade.

Check out mobile odin too. It makes everything but full sys backups a total breeze!
One of my all time favorite apps!

How do I get the OTA Kit-Kat with a rooted v 4.1.2 ? I have SuperSu for the Superuser app and see no option to do a temp unroot (if that will even work for the OTA update).
I have managed to stay out of trouble so far, the OTA update downloads and tries to install - then I get the error "Root suspected" during the beginning of the update process. I can just turn off and on and everything is fine. I would like KitKat, but I'm seeing so many threads saying the At&T Optimus G Pro (E980) with the 4.1.2 ROM is exempt from most of the tricks supplied here for this unit. I don't know how I managed to finally root it, I tried 5 methods then went back to the first one I tried that failed before and it worked the second time. I think it was a wrong ADB version running on my laptop.
Any tried and true methods to get KitKat for this beast and still have root? Thanks.

How do I flash the AT&T KK ? Is the official ROM here, or where is it downloaded to the phone so I can copy to SD card or PC?
Just to be sure we are on the same page, you are referring to LG Flashtools, correct?
Please take it easy on this newbie! I don't know all the acronyms, to me there is nothing quite simple about it!

I am currently running my stock rom rooted. I have a sprint galaxy note 4 running 5.0.1. When I go in download mode and try to flash the stock rom to remove root so I could download the OTA 5.1.1. I can't it just fails in Odin and my phone says SW REV CHECK FAIL FUSED 3 BINARY 1. I am dying for someone to help me. Anyone that understands what to do please let me know. Last thing by the way i am able to switch to a custom rom but not a stock sprint rom.
U cant downgrade after bob7

If you are on OE1 then your only option is to odin and upgrade to OF5 then you should be stock OF5. In my opinion I would wait to take the 5.1.1 update until a root method comes out for it.
Ok thanks. I thought I had a major issue since I tried finding it everyone and there just wasn't any articles. I'll just wait
