Hi,
As the title says, I converted my T-Mobile M8 to GPE (stock). Is the phone now unlocked to work with SIMs in Asia?
Anything carrier that was "locking" it down should be gone, right?
Thanks in advance!

Yes with s-off you can easily convert it to Developer Edition - International or GPe

thanks. that was the only thing i had in mind that whether or not the international roms are compatible with it. coz verizon and AT&t m8 have separate development forums on xda

thats because the americans cant agree to use the same radio frequencies for their networks, so companies need to make different models for each carrier.
i bought myself an used phone on o2, s-off'd it, changed the cid to GOOGL01 and flashed the GPE conversion RUU. HTC__001 is the sim free cid if you want to flash a sense RUU to completely unbrand your device

You'll be good with international based ROMs. You wouldn't be good with others. The O2 M8 is International WWE. You may have to update your firmware though, to run the latest ROMs, otherwise your wifi will not work.
I'm not sure if the HTC one m8 unlocked is the same as HTC one m8 off contract and also if you have a HTC one m8 off contract and you unlock the bootloader is that consisdered as a htc one m8 unlocked? (im asking this because i saw that developer edittion and htc one m8 unlocked is getting the lollipop update and mine is not)

Unlocked means it is not tied to a specific carrier, like Vodafone or AT&T. Although my M8 was Vodafone UK branded, I bought it in Greece with Italian papers inside and it was a sealed box. Also it was unlocked, not the bootloader, but the phone was unlocked to any carrier. Bootloader was unlocked by me with HTC dev.

thanks for the reply, i was really getting confused, but then why does mine not have an update from htc to official lollipop eventhough mine is not tied to a carrier? (P.S. my bootloader is still locked)

Because Lollipop isn't out yet. Only for the Dev Ed and GPE versions.

If it is s-on and locked, you can use HTC sync to manually update to 4.4.3. You could also use dottat's RUU EXE for s-on users to update.

Unlocked, rooted, S-Off. Running stock US fw.
Is there any benefit to converting to WWE, or will the stock US fw be okay for whatever GSM carrier I wind up with in Munich?

No one?
Trolling eBay for a HTC 10 and see unlocked Verson, T-Mobile, AT&T. Are they all equal when it comes to root with Sunshine or HTC Dev and custom ROM availability? Been away from HTC since my M8 and want to device to root. I'm using AT&T if it matters and I don't know if the unlocked Verizon has all the LTE bands. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Verizon variant will be pain in the ass to s-off and use on AT&T. Same for sprint variant. Try to get full unlocked variant. Tmobile variant should be ok also.
