4.3 Update for T-Mobile M919 ~ DO NOT UPDATE IF...

T-Mobile finally pushed the 4.3 update earlier today but DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PHONE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR ROOT! It comes with a locked bootloader. Therefore, once you are on 4.3 stock, you can only flash stock firmwares then. If you try to root your phone on 4.3 with the standard method, it will blow your efuse and void your warranty!
AGAIN, DO NOT UPDATE 4.3 VIA OTA OR ODIN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO VOID YOUR WARRANTY. IF YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT, FEEL FREE TO UPDATE

8. I've seen people trying the test build of 4.3 touchwiz without the new knox bootloader sound and wifi does not work. This is no longer the case, see point 12.
9. There seems to be a big question mark as to weather Samsung will allow hardware repairs under warranty with the knox 0x1 flag
10. only seems to affect GT-i9505 at the moment!

12. it is now possible to install custom 4.3 TW roms which have been modified to work without the new knox bootloader, do make sure that they are free from knox bootloader before flashing. Do note also that if you already have knox bootloader flashing anything even these 4.3 custom roms will still trip your 0x1 flag

DO NOT FLASH MODEMS/BASEBAND EITHER..... does not let u make phone calls on the leaked 4.3 tw version..... or the regular 4.2.2 version and like some1 said 4.4..... not sure if it works on the official 4.3 tw released today since no dev has released a rom of it... so do not flash if u need to make or receive phone calls makes ur phone freeze and wont make the actual call

I dont think it comes with a lock bootloader but more of with new knox flash counter.

All Samsung bootloaders have been locked after MH8. This is part of Knox security.

Thats sucks. Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of flashing the kernel with a 4.3 9505 rom.
How about doing that?

So lock bootloader like on Att and verizon? I think samsung will loose a lot of business in the near future

@jovy23 flashed the OTA and now cannot Odin a custom recovery nor revert to MDL. Odin fails every time. I have a locked Verizon S4 I bought for testing (not much good that did) this is the exact same thing I fought weeks to brake.. Nothing. It is locked.

There is a Odin tar for T-Mobile MDL modem here. If you didn't take the OTA but Odin the modem you "should" be OK with this. Be sure to thank the OP of that thread!

I just wanted to throw this out there... I had the stock ROM but rooted. Did my update through Kies fine. My data stayed intact. However, as some others have reported, I lost my root. Now I'm not sure how to get it back. I've seen mention of rooting it another method will void my warranty but I can't find info on how that's done.

Thanks dude. I was to the point that I didnt cared if my knox counter was stripped but now with lock bootloader plus lock modem it seems useless. Samsung is trying really hard to keep it lock.

The only difference is that HTC gives you the option to unlock boooader on htcdev.com
Lg in the other hand they just dont give out any source code

Is it worth tripping the Knox counter at the moment?

Just curious if any of the available Roms or mods are worth tripping the Knox counter at the moment. I'm rooted and have region unlock to use ATT but that's it. Am I missing anything?

Depends on what you want. I came from an AT&T note 3 to get native Bluetooth tethering for my Gear watch, so for me it was. If you don't want to flash roms, etc. then use the root that doesn't update KNOX if all you want is root. For me, I paid full price, so I don't care.

[Q] locked bootloader and knox

Hi all
Quick inquiry and I didn't see an exact answer to a question that I have. So I have a note 3 rooted and knox flag currently set to 0x0. I was reading I think on here and some other fourms that knox has locked the bootloader. I want to flash a custom recovery and I know it will trip the knox flag. Is the bootloader locked already or am I able to load custom recovery without any issue?

Do you have the T-mobile version? If so, then no, the bootloader is NOT locked.
Flashing a custom recovery WILL trip the Knox flag though.

Hi. I kind of in the same situation.
I am a Note 2 user since it came out and have tried many ROMs without problems. I recently upgraded to Note 3 and I haven't touched anything (rooting and flashing) because I remember reading before about some problems with Knox and eFuse or something. I got a T-Mobile note btw.
Do I have to treat Note 3 differently when rooting and flashing because of this knox, efuse issues?
I tried to look for a clearer answer but I'm still hesitant to proceed. Or is the process the same as rooting and flashing ROMs on Note 2?
Also, I have a Jump insurance with TMO, is this going to have some problem if later I have to claim replacements or upgrade? Thanks a lot. Really appreciate the help.

Well, from where we are right now with the Knox counter, if you flash ANY ROM or Kernel, then the Knox will trip, and will void your warranty. You can root using Root de la vega, or Kingo root without tripping the Knox counter.
I am not sure from a T-Mobile standing if they will give you a hard time with warranty if the Knox is 0x1. I have tripped my Knox counter, and have Jump also, but I honestly don't care. I am sure that SOMEHOW in the future we will be able to reset the Knox counter....I hope anyways.

Yes you did! Thanks a lot. Important thing is at least I can root. I think I'll be happy with the stock TW, I'll just install some launcher instead.

Safestrap Recovery works on N900T!!

I've been using the AT&T Safestrap Recovery on my Tmobile N900T and it works perfectly.
I flashed the AT&T X-Note ROM port (in slot 1) that they have and it works fine on the N900T. It does install the AT&T CSC (Just for this slot, each ROM slot has it's own CSC), but installing the TMO one causes crashing in the dialer (which also happens in the international rom currently out in the TMO forum). So, just keep the ATT CSC like it is. For Wi-Fi calling, I just boot back into the Stock slot and use the stock ROM.
The AT&T Safestrap (I used latest version 3.71)
The AT&T X-Note Port ROM (NO AROMA)
This allows us to keep Knox warranty intact for those of us that want it/use knox and want a recovery to flash customized TouchWiz ROMS..
Just remember:
NO AOSP ROMS
NO NEW KERNELS (which I believe safestrap can't flash anyway)
NO AROMA based ROMS (the install will just hang)
Hopefully more ROM developers on here will release Aroma free ROMS so that we can take advantage of this excellent tool!

Isn't the only reasons this is used with the ATT phones are the locked bootloaders and not changing tripping the counter? The counter doesn't matter with T-Mobile since you can do a exchange with T-Mobile since no one checks the counter. I think there is a Samsung rep which already said that T-Mobile doesn't care about the counter. I am not 100% on what this is used for if not only the 2 things I listed.

Knox is not a counter. It's more of a container for another instance of android that is used for secure work purposes. This has nothing to do with a flash counter. If you "trip" the knox warranty, it goes from 0x0 to 0x1 and you can not use Knox anymore. Custom recovery or custom kernel will trip it. It blows an e-fuse on your phone and can not be fixed without a motherboard swap. T-Mobile doesn't always check this, but they won't just exchange the phone for you if you ask. They might let you upgrade through the JUMP program or exchange because of another issue, but not necessarily do an exchange like you put it.
Some of us want to preserve the use of Knox because we can use it for work. Some just do not want to blow that e-fuse because it permanently disables a phone feature and possibly devalues it.
ATT phones have a locked bootloader, that means they can't install a custom recovery the traditional way. The T-Mobile version is unlocked so we can, but we blow our e-fuse if we do. There are benefits and limitations to safestrap recovery as there are to the regular recovery. Even if you have a regular recovery installed, the safestrap can also be installed and allows for "slots" that house different ROMS. You can switch between those ROMS with a simple reboot. This opens up possibilities not possible before.

Great find. I used this on my att note 3 before I made the switch. Would be great to see this adopted here in the tmo note world.

People the Knox counter is only for the SAMSUNG WARRANTY! if you have any other type of warranty Knox doesn't matter! Trip that $#'t already!

The Knox warranty is not for Samsung warranty. It is the KNOX WARRANTY... like it says. If you don't know what Knox is, do some research, decide if you need/want to use it and then blow your e-fuse if you don't need it. If tripped it's stating your phone is not warrantied by Knox... not Knox safe because Knox will no longer run on your phone.
People who work in a corporate environment can really benefit from Knox, you can replace that extra work phone with one phone that has a personal side and a work side via the Knox secure container. Haha, just like in real life, you're going to find people on xda with different ideas about just about everything. Some people will never need Knox, others will. And, because this is xda, you will also find people who didn't know they wanted/needed Knox until it was too late. And now it's our responsibility to fix it for them (at least in their minds, anyway).

is there any side effect or anything using the ATT safestrap ?, also did you just blindly follow the steps from the ATT page or you did something different, i always wanted to have multiboot.

Just blindly followed steps. No side effects. Make sure you're rooted, download the att safestrap apk and install it. Open apk and click install, click reboot to recovery and that's about it.

Multi boot capability is something many could find very useful, this is great find. As a matter of fact all custom ROM should have this, so you can test them, see what works and what not and while you wait for fixes, all you need to do is reboot to get back that WiFi calling, or whatever else doesn't work and you need it ATM. For example, in my case the main reason I don't even consider other ROM is above mentioned WiFi calling, nobody else has.

About to do the same thing. May I inquire what CM/AOSP kernel you are using as the flashable zip? I haven't located anything that is just the kernel as far as CM goes. Just wondering if you are using one from the International or something...

Only problem is you will set the Knox flag since CM11 needs a different kernel. of course if you have already set it, no need to worry about it.

I tried this and it didn't work so I figured it couldn't but you said it there is a guide for it. Would you be able to provide me with the link? When I tried to install CM into another slot I just got a black screen.

You have to boot into normal twrp and flash a cm11 kernel. When you wanna boot back into tw fladh a kernel

can someone recommend a 4.3 ROM that we can flash on the TMobile running the AT&T Safestrap? I looked but can't seem to find anything but 4.4.2 ROMs.

Uhh, why would you use the ATT CSC files?

[Q] Question about root and updates.

My understanding is that the retail verizon wireless edition (non-DE) of this phone can still be rooted. But you will trip knox, thus voiding warranty. I also understand you don't have an unlocked bootloader either.
I don't care about warranty, but I do want root. My question then becomes about future updates. If knox is tripped, can I still get to lollipop when it is released. I know I would probably loose root again at that point, but I live in the hope that eventually that too will get rooted (I know it may be vain hope, but still).
If my phone is rooted, will it block me from ever getting lollipop? Because without a bootloader, I can't put lollipop on through a custom rom either.
So, for someone who absolutely doesn't care about warranty issues, is root still a bad idea?

Interesting, I read somewhere you can root it still, but it will just trip knox. Maybe they were wrong.
I'm seriously struggling pulling the trigger on buying this without root. But I don't care about warranty.

Nothing yet. It's a nice phone but if you need root go for the DE edition. I can live without root, it would be nice but it's not a big deal to me. I have other rooted phones I can mess with if I want.

This phone is great as is. I personally would not let no root stop me from getting this phone. But its up to you.
