Anyone agree? Thoughts?
The G3 is a great phone, but for the logical and rational people out there who value more than specs on paper, or aren't sold on the stupid-high resolution and its pitfalls, what would you like to see in a G3 Mini? I think this is a grand opportunity for LG to make the first "mini" phone that doesn't need to suffer from sub-par specs.
If anyone from LG is reading this, your high-resolution display is actually the main reason I will NOT be buying the G3, next to being slightly too large. I own a G2 which I find is already pushing it.
The high-resolution display is just not worth these pitfalls:
BATTERY: Life is good, but could have been even better with a 1080p display; or could use a smaller battery resulting in lower cost for the device
HEAT: Device runs hotter because of the power draw on the display. When phones get hot, the processor underclocks itself. This is why phones often get laggy when they get hot; 1080p would be at MUCH lower risk, if at all
COST: No doubt that the R&D (optimizations) to pull off this high resolution will make the device more expensive; 1440p display materials also certainly drive the cost up over 1080p
I respect LG for this technological feat, but it really only appeals to the nutty enthusiasts who get off just knowing they are running high specs, or the uninformed masses who are just too dumb to know. I know there is not much else to compete on in the smartphone space, so please bring a Mini that doesn't suck.
Here is my wishlist for a potentially perfect phone (LG G3 Mini), and it's quite simple.
1080p
5", but keeping the same sexy dimensions, materials, and design
Smaller battery is understandable since there will be less power draw
Keep the other key specs the same! (camera, Snapdragon, RAM)

What he said, but with the same sized battery. The screen size/quality is the one downside for me with this phone, too.

I think he hits it right on too for the most part. Might battery life be almost TOO good with a 1080p display? Thing would run for days and days. On a smaller device there might not be as much space for it.
5' 1080 screen, everything else the same (okay to nudge the battery down slightly if necessary, due to the smaller package).
I don't want mini performance, simply a smaller screen/package. I really don't want 5.5 screen, I have a 7" tablet with BT kbd/mouse for things that take more real estate.
I want compact, not mini. Mostly because mine is a excuse for selling low performance for premium dollar..

It does, but because it's not removable.
The Korean G2, which has a removable battery, is only 2600mAH instead of the 3000 of the international version. And surprisingly enough, it makes a big difference in battery time (or maybe it's because the firmware is different?)
I love the G3 (I mean I'm ready to love it, as I don't have it yet), but I think it's slightly too big for me. A G3 compact with the same size as the G2, only a bit thinner would be ideal (G2 is the perfect size for me). While retaining the removable battery and SD slot of course...

Looking forward to Moto X successor.
In other words, the LG G2 is the true LG G3 Mini while the LG G3 Mini is a budget POS.

I'm also looking forward to that. My next phone is either going to be the G3 or the Moto X+1, but that really depends on the X+1. Can't wait to get some real news on it. Hopefully it has a battery to die for.

I'm starting to wonder if the X+1 will have native Android L which should automatically give it 20-40% battery life improvement. Looks like August is a solid date. I hope they can deliver where the G3 failed.

Coming from the Note 2, I'm impressed with the screen size to phone size ratio. One thing that has bothered me, is how small the LED notification indicator light is. Can barely tell if it's blinking or not. Might just be me, but I loved how easy it was to see the LED notification on the Note 2.

I thought after the Moto X, everyone would jump on the ActiveDisplay. Motorola must have a patent on it or other manufacturers are still blind to the great value it adds. LED notifications feel archaic after using a Moto X.

Good point. Haven't really explored Moto phones too much, but that's some very useful/practical tech.
I'm surprised almost half the voters believe that 5.5" is more practical than 5" for a smartphone!
Looks like the newly announced 5" G3 Beat will be as good as it gets for us. Not ideal specs, but I'd still take 720p over 1440p any day. If they had made it 1080p, snap 801, and same camera, this would have made it to my shortlist.

Imo it is. 5" is too small
Looks like we have a winner!
LG G3 A
Essentially a G3 but 5.2"/1080p! My only wish is that they'd made it 5" or smaller, but looks like this is as close as we're gonna get.

Hi guys,
I would just like to get some feedback regarding the IPS screen on the Nitro. I have been using iPhone 4 for around 2 years and would like to switch to an HD android phone. However I think I am kind of spoiled by the IPS display on the iPhone as it is simply the best I have seen so far. I have compared it with others like SAMOLED+, HD SAMOLED(Pentile) or the SLCD2 and I still find it to be the most comfortable to look at. I dont have a chance to look at the Nitro screen in person as it is not available in Australia so I was thinking I can use some feedback from actual users.
Personally I think the SAMOLEDs are a bit too colorful and the SLCD2 is still a little bit washed-out. I have read some reviews on the internet and it seems like the IPS on the Nitro is not as bright as the one on iPhone but I am not too sure if it is true. So what do you guys think of the screen comparing to the ones on iPhone 4/4s in terms of contrast, brightness and color accuracy?
Thanks heaps!
Max
LG makes the retina display for the iPhone 4/4s. It's the exact same technology in both displays, with the same ppi, but the Nitro has a higher resolution.

Actually the Nitro has a slightly higher ppi than the iPhone 4/s.

iPhone 4/4S is 330ppi and Nitro HD is 326ppi (based on GSMarena.com's calculations anyway). Although small rounding errors would give different results. It's negligible in any case.
The display is phenomenal, but it's the software running the display that will make you scratch your head. Gingerbread isn't optimized to run a display of this resolution. There is banding on gradients and certain times you will look at the screen and make you doubt it.
However, when ICS hits, it'll all be cleared up. It's still the best display that I've sen on an Android phone yet. I returned my Galaxy Nexus for this phone. There is no replacement for sharpness and color accuracy, both of which this phone has.
If coming from an iPhone, you won't be disappointed.
The ppi is definitely negligible, but as a former iPhone 4 user myself, I can assure you the Nitro HD's screen is just as great with the added benefit of being large enough for true HD. I wouldn't ever take an iPhone again. Way too small.

Yea that's exactly the same reason I am switching to android. If the screen is indeed the same quality then I will be very happy to get a Nitro or maybe wait for the Optimus LTE2 as I dont like the Tegra 3 on the 4X.
The coming iPhone 5 is better. If you want to taste ICS android, LTE2 is perfect, for its longer battery life.
I'm getting out of patience with charging the batterys.

I`ve read once that ah-ips is in fact a AFFS matrix. Can anyone proove that or is it wrong?
One interesting variation of IPS is the AH-IPS architecture developed by LG Display. This type of IPS panel uses the AFFS (advanced fringe field switching).

I found AFFS type matrix in only 1 phone in whole world and it is Nokia 5530 2.9"
AFFS panels are mostly utilized in the cockpits of latest commercial aircraft displays. Seems like ours display is only on par to expensive commercial aircraft ones and not to some cheap $h1t pentile amoleds

eh?
what does the "coming iphone 5 is better." mean? of course it will be better, that's the point. why would it be worse? worse than what? the 4? a blackberry? smoke signals?
BUT- it's all rumor and speculation at this point and the screen size is a guess too.
not to mention, it's a year away and no one has even guessed how it will address lte and batt issues with that.
bottomline: certainly a smart phone released a year from now should be better than any phone on the market today.
next, the lte2 is perfect for what? op isn't in korea. and its longer batt life is based primarily on the larger batt, and from what Ive gathered, not on any real sw tweaks.

longer batt life due to S4 Krait based on 28nm, and therefor way too cooler than ours Scorpion, and secondly radio chip is inside of S4 so helps reduce power. Seems like I've get lte2 in my hands sooner than at&t will bring official ICS to light
for LTE2 there's own tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1635089

i've read the thread, hell i commented in it weeks ago.
but I tend not to buy into the marketing that the lte2 is automatically better at handling the battery, i'll wait for some testing.
on the other hand, a batt ~350mAh bigger is an obvious difference.
not saying the phone won't include some break-through batt tech that solves the problem of battery power, but i've yet to see any proof and i tend to distance myself from the pre-release marketing.
The screen on my LG Spectrum is phenomenal when compared to my old AMOLED DROID Incredible. I've also compared my screen to the screen of friends' iPhone 4s and 4Ss. So long as the brightness is roughly equivalent, the LG Spectrum comes out ahead because it is true HD.
Watching Netflix on my phone in HD is awesome and everyone I've shown it to is exceedingly impressed. Even iPhone owners.

This is exactly why I chose lg nitro for my upgrade. I compared displays of samsung, htc, moto razr and iphone. Samsung colors looked non-uniform on the blue side. Moto razr is, well, not much to write home about. Htc, not good either. Iphone's display is very good and normalised and it looks more effective with appke's aesthetic design wrapped around it. But I am an iphone hater (like mac though).
First thing that stands out with Nitro is it's display. Very clear and even. But it's design is same old plastic and mmmehhh..still chose the phone because the display is the best in the current android crop and too good to pass. Put the leaked ics, not the cm9, and you have a neat package. Also, as previous user of cm9, a big shout out to them, they gave the nitro community the first taste of ics which is greatly appreciated.

Is there actually a noticeable difference between CM9 and the leak in terms of display?
Aside from the random blue flash on CM9 and considering my limited time on the leak (~an hour), I'd say no.
The leak is more fluid and customised. But the major positive is the battery life. I had to recharge twice a day using cm9. Now with the leaked version the phone still has some juice left end of the day.

I agree... in order to get decent battery life out of CM9 I've had to switch over to hspa+ and use SetCPU to reduce my CPU speed while the screen is off, as well as manage my wifi well.

Okay, so I'm debating on whether or not getting the G3. I need as many opinions as possible whether or not to get it. Please list your pros/cons along with your comment. Right now, I'm stuck with either the M8 or the G3.
My previous devices were:
Samsung: S2, S3, S4
HTC: Inspire, Wildfire S, EVO 3D
Sony: Xperia Z1 C6903
LG: Nexus 4 (current)
I really liked my Samsung's just cause of the AMOLED screen. I stripped TouchWiz most of the time and stuck with AOSP. I liked my HTC's cause Sense was actually pretty cool besides the heavy UI. I liked my Z1 cause it was waterproof. I love my Nexus, because, 1) Life's Gangster 2) straight Google 3) decent specs even today.
Cons: TouchWiz, is full of useless gimmicks. Sense, then, heavy UI. haven't used any other version since 4.1. Sony, odd but useful UI.
My girfriends brother just got the M8 and he said he loves it. Is only other (smart)phone was an S4. I'm not sure whether to get the G3 or the M8 though. He said that he used the G2 and he said it was **** without explanation. I was gonna get the M7 but since HTC took the SD card slot away, I'd have no use for my 64GB.
I love that the G3 comes with 3GB ram for the 32gb with expandable to 128GB. I kinda like the rear power/volume buttons. I love the lockscreen (using it on my N4). I love OIS and the Infrared depth sensor. The only things steering me away from it is the 5.5" screen and it not being waterproof. I'm not too worried about the waterproofing because hello, taking a shower with my Z1 wasn't anything exhilarating. I think 4.7" is a sweet spot for screens but I definitely got used to my S4's 5" other than having to reposition my hand to drop the notification shade down.
Please help me decide on what I should do. Sorry if this isn't in the right thread, I figured I'd put it here cause 1) I'm asking a question (2 about the G3.
Thank you.

Only you can decide.
No one can give you an absolute "yes" or "no".
You have already found two negatives FOR YOU in G3 - 1)screen is too big 2) not waterproof.
If you are in the US, you can buy it from your carrier, use it for 13 days and then decide whether you like it or not.

Yeah but opinions can help a lot. I mean the screen "seems" to be too big. It'll be different when I actually get the hold the device and see how it feels. For the waterproof thing, hopefully there will be a case that at least protects it from light rain or something. My N4 isn't waterproof and I'm okay with that. It was just a nice luxury when I had it noting I really need. There's always those companies out there that do it to an extent. Do you have the G3?

Lol. I'm using the Xperia Z Ultra! 6.4" of finger and Palm splitting. All other phones feel so small to me but I'm trying to find the sweet spot so I can go back down under 6". I'm getting the G3. Love LG designs and I miss owning the OGP. @Maine_Coon same here. I was checking out my gfs brothers M8 and my thoughts are: Pros: its surprisingly thin, surprisingly lightweight, Sense seems a lot faster, boomsound is greatly improved and bassy, the pictures look amazing, the top where the IR blaster looks slick. Cons: I have to slide the phone down a bit in my Palm to reach the power button (I'm used to side power buttons). I don't like how they moved it to the right of the top of the phone. You have to strain your finger to press it. I don't like the placement of the headphone jack. Its not directly in the center of the bottom of the phone, it looks cut off. I don't like the recents panel.
So yeah, I'd rather take an OIS camera with an infrared laser rather than dual cameras. I have never witnessed an OIS camera before and I think it would be sweet. I think I'm steering towards the G3 more than anything. Let me know what you think of it if you get it before I do.
@Jammol 6.4" is massive! Honestly, my Z1 was too big for me and it even had a 5" screen. I loved my S4 once I stripped TouchWiz off of it, unlocked the Sim and bootloader. I only got rid of it because Samsung released that Knox ****. I mean I still rooted and flashed ROM's with it removed though. I just think Samsung is steering more toward unless gimmicks that they think people would use. Don't get me wrong, air view was pretty tight, but that's about it.

Sure will.
The only thing that bothers me is that some report "dim", or not enough brightness.
I almost always keep the brightness at 100%.
Have such a screen dull would be a shame.
Battery life is non-issue for me, I always have the spare. Unless it is not possible, as with G2 and Z Ultra
Everything else suits me perfectly.
Already sold my i6000 and G2, Z Ultra will follow if I will be happy with G3.

Are you talking about the G3's screen being too dim? If so, having a 1440p QHD screen you would think they'd have to limit something with it to conserve battery a little better. As what @Jammol said, if the G3 is actually worth it, I'll probably keep it until way past it's lifespan. The most I'd probably do to it is slap AOSP on it like I did with my S4 depending on how the UI is.

With T-Mobile's Uncarrier 5/6, I doubt locked bootloader will stay for long. T-Mo is really trying to win more customers and I think if they allow unlocking of bootloaders, that would win a lot of people in my opinion. Hell look at Verizon, they may have the most advanced and fastest LTE, but I'd rather have a fully customizable phone than fast Internet, especially when I have Wi-Fi at home. But again, that might all change with Android 5.0

Think about the OnePlus One if you're ready for a 5.5" phone. Comes with CM from the factory, the most open and dev-friendly device atm. Only prob is availability and few reports of yellow tinted screen (sounds like the N4 a while back haha) and can't try before you buy. G3 is beautiful but hobbled by GPU thermals and too many pixels, prob locked bootloader, needs Windows to get it ready for custom roms.
Or if you need a G3 wait a month or two and it will have Snapdragon 805 to solve all the major issues.

Yeah the OnePlus One looks like an amazing device but I kinda like UI options. Hell, even when I had my S4 before I put AOSP on it, there were so many themed versions of TouchWiz. I never really witnessed a LG UI before and I'm interested to find out what it's like. I would definitely get it, but the whole "invites" thing is a huge dilemma. I'm waiting for Xaiomi to hit the US. Cheap, but beefy phones.

-only snapdragon 801
- the display is outdated..2k and/or 4k with qhd is the future
-no microsd slot
-no water resistant
-no removable battery
-no ir blaster
-too tall, with big bezels..taller than the g3
-oneplus devices tend to have a yellow tint on the screen
-CM takes too long to update their work
-by the time u get it there will be better phones already

That doesn't make any sense. 2k/4k resolution is only needed on a much larger screen, while the 810 is slated for sometime in 2015. If you're willing to wait a year then this whole discussion is moot.
@CrashTestDroid you really think they'll come out with a G3 with an 805? I just want something beefy enough to play Modern Combat 5 when it comes out.

same thing was said when 1080 came out...ppl were saying it was pointless etc..and now it is standard and 810 which will be 64bit is expected to be available in devices by the beginning of 2015

i was one of the winners from the race contests and i ended up giving my invite to somebody else because of the reasons below:
-only snapdragon 801
- the display is outdated..2k and/or 4k with qhd is the future
-no microsd slot
-no water resistant
-no removable battery
-no ir blaster
-too tall, with big bezels..taller than the g3
-oneplus devices tend to have a yellow tint on the screen
-CM takes too long to update their work

The only downside (if you dont like big phones) is the phone size itself. I find it hard to operate with one hand. Since its a phablet you'll probably use two hands most of the time.
I currently own an LG G3 Beta version and I can say that it is excellent. Battery life, screen, features are more than enough. I wish it was around the 5" spot but then again the beautiful QHD display makes up for it.
I am interested to know if the quad HD display was a buying factor for you guys or instead it was a deal breaker? ; Personally for me I find the Lg G3 great (I wanted to buy the G2 last year but there's no sd-card slot and removable battery) but the quadHD display is a deal breaker for me : it eats battery, increase temperature, reduced brightness and performance and you can hardly notice a diff between 1080p and 2k.
Vote guys thx
At first it was a huge factor since it was a rare upgrade to 1080p. The 1440p screen was only seemingly noticeable when first viewing it but in hindsight I realize there was no added detail in things like web viewing. Even the extra pixel detail in 2k videos is a bit too squashed to fully realize its clarity. I also bought it for what I thought would be speed, performance and battery life. It really hasn't lived up to anything except its design aesthetic. To me its just my smartphone now and not my top of the line smartphone. I can only hope future Android updates will improve the performance of this phone since it really has some amazing specs and is more than capable of delivering a good user experience.

I love the design too but performance looks pretty poor and I don't think updates will fix it... it is limited because of that 2k display, which tbh is just a gimmick.
Note 4 is rumoured to be a 2k display which will use the snapdragon 804 which lead to believe snapdragon 801 is not really meant for 2k display in the first place.
So what phone are you looking to buy? S3 S4 Sony SP G2 or G3
Your recent posts are very interesting!
For me the QHD display wasn't a selling point or a deal breaker for me when considering the G3. The other device I was considering was the Xperia Z2 but I was ultimately put off the Z2 by how insistent Sony was in releasing a replacement every 6 months (and lo and behold, its being announced in a week or so). What I liked the look of about the G3 was the fact it was pretty much the only Android phone left with OIS (something I really appreciated on my HTC One and was crestfallen when they removed it from the M8) and that it had a removable battery in a body that actually looked and felt (surprisingly) premium while having a larger display in a similar sized body to other flagships.
Concerning the display, I don't feel that the 1440p resolution is a bad idea. Whether we like it or not, this is where all mobile devices (flagships atleast) will be heading towards very soon, so to be an early adopter will always have teething problems. I think that the Snapdragon 801 is not the problem here that the performance "issues" people are experiencing are down to the software and restrictions put in place to control heat (which can be disabled but frankly, LG should try and focus on improving in this area and build their phones to a slightly higher standard, I guess this is probably the reason why you can find LG's flagships for 2/3 the price of competitors after a few months, there is evidently some cost cutting going on somewhere). Also coming from the One M7, while its display was fantastic (brilliant whites, spot on colours, great viewing angles), the G3's display is really not that much worse, my observations picking up that its not as bright (but still usable outside) and the whites do look a faint greyer. But the tiny bezels on the G3 are a worth it over those small niggles for me.
As much as I have enjoyed my G3 over the last month and a half, my biggest issue with the G3 is the locked bootloader and LG's reluctance to embrace third party developer practises. Many other OEMs such as Sony, HTC and Motorola now offer bootloader unlock processes for their devices, while LG is being far from transparent regarding the issue with mixed messages coming from various channels of communication. Hopefully with the G3 being a sales success for them, this may get them to reconsider.

still not sure... but it seems most probably i will break the bank and get a s5 although i like the g3 but too many issues
I know the resolution is way higher, but at 1080 on the G2 I don't think I'd appreciate the increase. I don't use very intensive apps, so the extra power there isn't too needed. How about the camera? Is it a big big step up? I wouldn't use Raw at all for Photoshop or anything, but i appreciate the ability to take fast good looking photos. What draws me to the G4 is wireless charging and probability of more development and larger assortment of aftermarket accessories. I doubt the G2 will see much more from the custom scene. The only con of the G4 is it's so damn big. The G2 was the perfect size for me when I had one. It was easily usable one handed. I haven't used the G4 extensively, but hands on at TMo made it feel really really really big. I already broke my X '14 doing hand gymnastics with my phone. Thanks
I still have a G2 and it is still an excellent phone. With the latest lollipop update the G2 runs smooth. Battery life is better on the G2, but the G4 gets a free extra battery which equals out that playing field.
The G4 is noticeably faster in all areas, but not by game changing amounts. Camera is the biggest upgrade by far. No real comparison there.
I don't see a "need" to upgrade from the G2. Just the desire to try the newest gadgets has me upgrading every few months.

Pros
Faster
Screen image quality
Louder and clearer loudspeaker
Front and rear camera
Expandable storage
Leather back
Cons
Battery life, easily get an extra 12 hours with my daily use
Wireless Storage disappeared
Edges of the phone feel cheap, specially the rough ports on the bottom.
Overall it was an upgrade that is good, but not great. A phone with this much power and screen size would match well with a 5000mAh or greater battery.
I would have stayed with my G2 if I hadn't broken the screen.
G2 was one of the best phones ever created
But seriously, other 1 or 2 annoyances (speaker) G2 was a beast of a phone
I had the G2 and had to root it to really like it. I've had the G4 for a few days and for the first time I won't be rooting. The phone is great as is. My only complaint is the wireless charging but it looks like that can be solved for 8 dollars.

I don't know about you, but my G2's screen kept overheating, and every time it overheats, my knock on does not work and the screen becomes unresponsive. This is just with the screen being on, and not gaming - mostly just reading forums and watching youtube. One of the big things is that the 808 processor isn't supposed to get hot, so even if it runs "slower" than the Galaxy, it's much smoother on a day to day basis for real usage. No hot screen = no screen issues, I hope.
Dual window is very nice. You can watch youtube while browsing forums for max trollin when you're bored. Plugging in the earphones and having it automatically launch into a music app (or whatever app you choose) is also nice. 1440P vs 1080P resolution - which I wasn't really sure of the difference until I watched some videos on youtube that explains the difference.. wow, just wow.
The replaceable battery, which I did not care for before, comes in extremely handy. It's like having instant-charge from 0% to 100%. No more sitting around running for wall chargers. However, if you do come to that point, you have QC 2.0 which charges just slightly quicker than the G2's QC 1.0. People often think QC 2.0 is supposed to be fast as hell, and in comparison to standard charging - yes. QC 1.0 wasn't THAT bad, but QC 2.0 is definitely an improvement.
The camera itself is like no other. The G2's camera was good, but the G4.. wow, just wow. I've taken so many more pictures in the past week with the G4 than I have ever with the G2. The night pics that comes out of the G4 makes me wonder if it really came from a phone camera.
I, too, was afraid of the phone size when I heard it's a 5.5" that's bigger than the G3. That was one of the main reasons why I never even considered the G3 - because of its size. When I saw videos that the phone curves for better aerodynamics/handling/ergo, I felt like the size wouldn't matter as much. It's true that it barely fits into my pants, but the 5.5" screen is AWESOME when it comes to pictures/picture editing on the fly/videos, etc etc.
With the free SD card and the extra battery, the $600 price tag didn't seem as steep.
Hope this helps you decide.

If you read all my posts you should have read that the g4 feels way too cheap for a 2015 flagship device that costs $500+. The ui has no improvements, the screen is nice, battery life is good too but on the other hand, the g2 has a really nice screen as well and also great battery life. I prefer the built quality of the g2. Cannot stand those bezels of the g4. Also the phone doesn't feel any snappier, although in paper it is supposed to be a beast. The phone has potential, but it needs root and devs to work on it. By the time that happens, 6 months will have passed. Also if you have already made up your mind, no point creating a thread.

It 'feels cheap'? We are comparing the G2 to G4 still?
It isn't much faster than the G2? Do you actually have a G4?

Sister has the g2. I have the g4 and s6 now. maybe faster is not the exact term, but I mean snappier. The g2 feels snappier. Don't ask me why, but it does. Get one yourself and see what I am talking about. And yes the g4 feels cheaper than the g2. The g2 has slimmer bezels, some metal on the side, while the g4 is pure plastic on the sides.

I don't know guys. I've spent hours in the T-mobile store playing with the G4 and I fear it's just too damn big I've lost two phone now due to drops from hand gymnastics and it would be fiscally irresponsible to risk another. I am more than likely going to purchase an S6 today. Or maybe a G2 and wait for the Nexus 5 2015 based on the G4 aaarrrghhhhhhh. Damn phone decisions...

Recently upgraded from G2 to G4. I'm one of the few that doesn't rely on streaming websites for music so my phone was almost always maxxed out due to my music. I upgraded because this had an expandable sd card slot. Now for the rest:
It is noticeably bigger and takes a bit of time to get used too, especially the keyboard due to its location and how the phone is balanced. I do like the curved screen, it feels... a bit more natural. The phones a bit harder to navigate one handed, but the G2 wasn't super easy either. The camera is noticeably better, and hopefully will get even better once xdabbeb comes around to the G4 if he/she does. I ran xdabbeb's rom on my g2. My G2 was a bit snappier but this was due to running a custom rom. I feel like the G4 will beat the G2 in this once it gets rooted and custom roms come out. I feel like alot of the sluggish behaviors are due to the carrier's bloatware and other stuff. Build quality is nice imo, better than the G2 but that's usually just personal preference.
tl;dr -- it was a worthy upgrade for me, due to camera and expandable sd card slot. minor hinderances are the size and lack of root and custom rom support but this can be learned, and dealt with over time.
Hope this helps.
G2 i still better...unfortunately for me . I bought the G4 (replaced my G3 that replaced my G2). When i bought the G3 i wanted to sell it the next day and buy a G2 again but i learned to live with it. Now i have the same thoughts for the G4. It's a Downward Spiral for LG. They made one great phone the G2.

Well, I'm hoping it's a beast, with a serious battery upgrade...
hopefully they treat this like they did the Ultra/Maxx from 2013 and that they are the same phone, but the Maxx has the huge battery...I'm not cool with the idea that the Maxx will be a lower tier device...that makes no sense to offer the high end device with crap battery

I'm not buying a moto x until the details of the Turbo 2 come out. Need to understand what is different in terms of specs and capabilities.
If it is basically a Moto X Play with better processor, I'll buy that instead of the (too large in my opinion) Moto X Style/Pure.
If the Turbo 2 is 5.7" like the Style, then I won't buy it and will wait for the next Nexus 5.

If your most desired feature in a phone is long battery life, then a lower tier device with a huge battery would make sense. I also want the latest and fastest, but a lower tier device with a huge battery would be well suited for Ingress.

Nah, the Turbo was a design failure as a follow-up to the Droid Maxx...the Maxx was a high end device with a bigger battery then anything else out there...with the turbo they needed up the specs, and then barely upgraded the battery...

details on Turbo 2: snapdragon 810, 3700mah battery, 5.4" POLED (plastic OLED) screen, available via Moto Maker with a one time design swap (you redesign a new one and send the other one back). No mention of sd card has been made. Also, no mention of bootloader unlock or a developer edition. the last two are all I need to know before I pass on the Moto X Pure 15. all of this info is plastered on Twitter. all of the tech "news sites" have this info via (at) upleaks though that account is disabled atm.

I've posted about it many times before but spec wise, this phone IS NOT an upgrade to our current Turbo.
- 810 is meh at best. Our 805 tops it after a few seconds of sustained usage. Our 64bit memory interface keeps our memory speeds right on par too.
- GPU is a hair better. Negligible at best.
- Screen is bigger which is a negative in my eyes and of lesser image quality being POLED.
- Battery is smaller albeit only 200 mAh
The only thing that would make this better than the current gen is a bootloader unlock which, let's face it, is bleak considering it's a Verizon exclusive.
Our Turbo was a great buy back in October 2014 and it's going to be relevant all the way past SD 820 devices.

Just curious, but why would having a plastic display cause less image quality? They use the same technology, I don't see why there would be any difference? Also, the bigger screen would be a lower pixel density, but with a 565 ppi on the original, there would be virtually no difference to the untrained eye.
I agree with the bootloader unlock though. If it happens, I will buy, but the snapdragon 820 should, in theory, be leaps ahead of the 805 so I wouldn't say it can surpass the 820.

Never said the 820 wasn't going to smoke the 805! For the sake of all mobile devices it NEEDS to be leaps and bounds ahead of everything out there right now.
POLED as proven in the LG Flex phones doesn't have the image quality of normal AMOLED. I can't find the specific article that went in depth on it but it's most definitely a step back quality wise than our AMOLED panel.
HOWEVER, if it truly can take more abuse without breaking than that's a trade off that would be worth it. Gotta pick your poison.

I've read the same thing also. POLED can't compare to AMOLED.
It's fine as a gimmick, but not visual clarity. Unless Motorola has developed it more than LG has.
With the Quarks we already have 3GB, 64GB storage, ballistic nylon with Kevlar underneath, turbo charging, Qi wireless charging. We have Snapdragon 805, not the problematic throttled 810. And a 5.5" display size is NOT better than 5.2". Maybe 5.3" -- but not 5.5".
Unless they offer us rear camera OIS and STEREO speakers -- which they gave the MOTO NEXUS 6 and should have given us last year -- what else can they offer? Oh, shatter proof display with less visual quality? No thanks.
This thing better be unlocked.
Im waiting if this will get stereo front speakers...
I think Turbo's loudspeaker quality is poor.
You guys should maybe take a look at LGs OLED curved TV, it has been awarded countless times in the last year as having the best screen of any TV. My uncle has the 55in version just in 1080P and its amazing. Take a look at this link http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/lg-eg9600-vs-samsung-js9500/ Yeah there's a $4000 price difference but this is Samsungs high end amoled panel, in the end the price doesn't matter, this is to show you what OLED can do so don't count the Turbo 2 out just yet.

I just bought a Moto Maxx to work with AT&T's LTE band 17, and am very glad to read this post. I was very torn on waiting to hear about the new X Force, but after the leaks, I think this summary is spot on. All great points. I really wonder if there will ever be a device made in the future that matches the Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx specs, particularly those specs combined with a 5.2 inch screen.
I'm most interested in the camera. Supposed OIS and laser focus. That's leaps and bounds ahead of our over powered 21 mp rear shooter that is slow and under par in many ways.
SD slut is nice too
I'm very torn. Nexus 6P is not for me, just too big. Nexus 5X is a disappointment all around. None of the other Verizon offerings are of any interest to me.
Turbo 2 seems to be a minimal upgrade. I was really hoping for 4GB of RAM and Stereo Speakers
