[Q] Help needed for a HARD bricked Galaxy sIII I747 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Plz help. Here is what happened. I messed up my device so bad it won't turn on or do ANYTHING. I was thinking about getting a jig( if those even work in my case) or having it J-Tagged, but those are MY LAST OPTIONS! I need help really bad and I know I messed up but if anyone knows how to fix it, any help will be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! You need to provide more information than you have for anyone to be able to help. What device model and carrier is it? How did you get to the bricked state? Were you flashing any firmware? If so, what? What's the firmware history - Android version etc? Recovering from a brick isn't always a hard thing and we do it all the time. We would, however, need to know more.

Hello, the model is the Samsung Galaxy SIII SGH-I747 and the carrier is AT&T. Well I tried rooting it with Team epic root, it didn't work then I tried to flash the stock rom and that didn't work either. It then was hard bricked.

Look up debrick method =) you'll need a SD card

Please go to the thread below. All the instructions and files you need can be found on the first page. You will need a micro SD card with, at least, 16Gb capacity. Won't work with an 8Gb card.

The debrick card lets the phone boot by simulating the internal workings of the device. To get the phone to start working normally, you would have to work your way up the food chain to a full 4.3 stock firmware restore. It won't work any other way. Normally, you should be able to boot into download/recovery modes as well as system with the debrick card. If it won't boot to download mode, you may need to get a USB jig. Here's what we need to do then ....
1) Download the 4.3 stock restore image from the thread below ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
2) Boot to system with the debrick card and copy the stock restore zip above to your phone's internal storage
3) Power off your phone. Boot into download mode - either with the Volume Down/Power/Home button combo or with a USB jig.
4) Flash custom recovery -TWRP or CWM- via Odin. You can download the Odin flashable *.Tar file for TWRP from the link below ...
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2att.tar
5) After successfully flashing custom recovery, remove the battery to avoid rebooting to system, replace the battery and reboot to (custom) recovery with Volume Up/Power/Home buttons
6) Select install and navigate to the stock restore zip you saved earlier. Select this file and swipe to confirm installation. Wait for firmware installation to complete
7) Clear cache/dalvik and reboot to system
Hope this works for you. Good luck!

[Q] Ascend P6 Bootloop

Hello all.
I know this has been asked a gazillion of times, but the solutions I can find, are not working for me.
I rooted my phones yesterday, for the first time and all went great. I got reverse tether to work etc etc.
I installed a few apps, and they all worked.
Then i installed Xposed framework, and it got me into a bootloop.
I tried flashing the recovery_original_flashable.img from another thread and this went perfect, but it still is in the bootloop. I can get into recovery, but it does nothing. It just lets me wipe cache and or do a factory reset and those both have no effect whatsoever.
I know I might be doing something wrong, can anyone help me?
And sorry if I am just forgetting one step in all of this.
Thanks in advance
pmbMixx
EDIT:
I got the stock rom ready, yet, I cannot exit my SD card to copy the update.app file. This is due to a drop a year back, it is bend at the sd card slot and when I use a little needle to make it come up it tries to push the whole sidepanel off, I tried connecting to fastboot and using ADB push command to drop the file there, but it does not see my device.
How to move on?

Since you cant remove the sdcard and you are on stock recovery i would first suggest that you flash twrp recovery in order to get to the sdcard. Once you can boot to twrp you can mount the storage on your computer and from there copy the update.app file you need to install a fresh copy of the system. When thats done you can flash back the stock recovery and update normaly.

Got it on there now,
Flashed the stock recovery back
Reboot into recovery->Error -> E:failed to mount.
What now? Thanks for the help in advance!
Edit:
Ok, I have gotten it to mount at least one time, but it will not run the UPDATE.APP, not with booting with VOL - and + pressed, not with VOL+ pressed nor with VOL - pressed.
I can enter the SD card, but after going in into the folders and going back it disconnects the SD card and it is failed to mount again.

Correct.
I went on trying some things, and it would not update back to the stock rom. I tried flashing TWDR (right?) and that worked, and after that I tried flasing the Cyanogen mod rom, and its working again. Although I must say, its buggy as frack.
for example: Camera wont show, it opens app but then keeps showing homescreen with a gray overlay, and when pressing the power button, it wont ever show me a menu to restart or shutdown etc.
Anyone using a rom on the P6 that does not have this problem?
Summary: I can flash custom roms, I cant flash stock roms for some reason...

you may want to flash your phone back. so this consist of
1) read up how to access to Temp CWM
2) download and transfer the full rom to your SD card
3) do a wipe all partition and go to advanced setting, wipe cache
4) install zip and choose from external SD, point to that .zip file for the full rom and apply.
5) installation may take 10min or so do not switch it off. after installation you are good as new.
I believe this should solve your problem, normal if things get bricked is due to config file error could be [syntax, corrupted, missing, setting].
Flashing should solve mostly of it unless the file that you previously accessed require root and cwm does not give permission to the file. that is a permanent bricking.
As always, newbie should not try tweaking permission required files, you end up having bricking the device as there might be no solution to recover it due to access rights. ALWAYS have a back up file so you can at least copy the file back and chmod it.

here is the stock firmware.
https://www.asus.com/Phones/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/HelpDesk_Download/
its fine if your phone does not talk to your PC now. copy the firmware to your SD card via other means. [card reader etc]
then try my method of flashing it back to original state, you stated that adb dont work, have you tried the temp CWM method yet?
the main goal is to wipe dalvik cache under advanced menu in CWM, and cache partition and all hard reset.
then you flash back your original file.
hope it works for you.

ive read about the temp cmw method and i cant figure out how to go about it. it says on the instruction that you need to turn on phone before running the cai_dat_CWM. how am i going to do this as my phone will only boot to the asus logo? thanks
just figured it out. I need to boot in fastboot so the phone will get recognized. However, the latest build available on the asus website is still 2.17.40.12. I already have the 2.18.40.12 version. The 2.17 firmware can't overwrite the newer build in temp CWM recovery. Anybody knows where i can download the full rom? Z00A-WW-2.18.40.12?

I'm good with it, simple coding would be great if you have a solution for this
download twrp from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3wzFG_FuEb3UzVKWHJSekZuQTQ/view?usp=sharing
install it via fastboot [fastboot flash recovery twrp-m8eye-2.8.0.3 (1).img] use the command inside the bracket, download this backup from http://1drv.ms/1WkbudN now for the back to work well i suggest that you create a backup of your cache on your sd card so that you can have the correct directories to copy the backup to, usually its TWRP/BACKUPS/YOUR SERIAL NUMBER/BACKUP FILES, if you wish to root flash supersu zip from chainfire,

If it still under warranty then send it in ... this usually means the data partition is corrupted.
If it is unlocked, formatting data partition in TWRP recovery will fix it but this is non-rooted stock device, so the best option is HTC service centre.

Helps with Download mode

Need some help on how to get the download mode back.
so i have HTC 10, Nougat. S-off and unlocked bootloader,
had some issues with my phone so i formatted the user data from TWRP, the went to flash the original stock ROM, something went wrong obviousely so now i lost the ability to get into download mode.
if i press the power and volume down the phone just gets stuck in boot screen, i can get into the bootloader and recovery (not the TWRP) by pressing power and both volume buttons, bot from recovery I seem to fail flashing the ROM again, it fails on the signature check and even via ADB i cannot boot to download mode.
Any advice on how to get this issue sorted. i want to get the twrp or reinstall the rom again.
PS placing the rom.zip on the SD card is not doing anything as the phone bypasses that step automatically
thanks in advance

I cannot, when i pick download mode it goes straight into a boot loop and gets stuck on the HTC logo screen nothing else happens
push vol down vol up and power
Since the computer can talk to the phone, I would try the RUU executable.
(hard to help troubleshoot not knowing what you did but flashing "original stock ROM" via TWRP is a problem)
If you're getting a signature check fail, investigate that. What file are you flashing? How are you trying to flash it? Does downloading it again and comparing the two show any differences (if there isn't a hash to verify it)?

thanks for your comment,
I will try the RUU method tonight and see if that makes any difference.
I was flashing the Original Stock ROM, but i did that from SD card not TWRP, but during the flashing the phone rebooted multiple times and then i ended up with this issue. i am pretty sure I am trying to flash the same file, but will check the Hash just to be sure.
the issue the annoys me is that i cannot access the download mode, if i could then i will flash TWRP again and restore from backup images i have.
I want to say there's a condition where you have to flash twice but I'm not certain on that but it wouldn't hurt.
The signature fail is a concern; hence getting a new file. Are you exctracting 2PS6IMG.zip from the RUU via the decrypt tool? That's what I've always done to ensure I have the correct file and intact.

Yeah, there's a lot that can go wrong there, like downloading the wrong one, the poster making a mistake, not to mention its an unknown source--especially since you're S-OFF.
Ensure you get the correct version from htc.

ok here is the latest development, wondering if anyone has any advise,
firstly extracting the file from the RUU and flashing it did not work. however i managed to find a little app called Windroid that allowed me to flash TWRP from the bootloader (without the need to go to download mode)
but I soon found out that the phone lost all its partitions. so i cannot wipe, format, install anything, but i can see a bunch of folders and filed via the TWRP file manager.
used ADB fdisk -lu I only see one single partition end was only able to remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1.
any advice will be highly appreciated I am not sure how to proceed here
thanks in advance

If you're still in this trouble: -Search for your actual installed ROM (the firmware zip with a lot of other zips inside), deRUU it (search on google how to decompress a RUU) and flash via BOOTLOADER the hosd_signed.img image (this is "download" and "RUU" modes). You can boot to BOOTLOADER holding both volume buttons and power together (try more times if it wont boot).

thanks for the response, I want to try this method too, just wondering do you have any idea how to flash the file form bootloader, given i donot have fastboot, or more precisely fastboot would not see my device, but adb does. (but if I try to reboot to download/fastboot from adb the phone just goes to sleep)
thanks in advance

Samsung Nexus GT-i9250 stuck on X screen with colours changing DATA IMPORTANT HELP!!

I have a GT-i9250 its stuck on the X boot screen with the colours changing.
I think the bootloader is unlocked when you turn it on it shows the unlocked padlock.
The phone charges and usb is being detected by PC.
When I connect in bootloader mode computer detects ADB.
How do I get this phone to turn on fully WITHOUT WIPING MY IMPORTANT DATA?
Board Name : tuna REV 9
Board REV : HSPA - 9
Boot Type : USB MMC1
Device Type : HS
Build Date : Nov 16 2011 16:29:36
FASTBOOT MODE
PRODUCT NAME - tuna
VARIANT - maguro
HW VERSION - 9
BOOTLOADER - VERSION - PRIMEKK15
BASEBAND VERSION - I9250XXLH1
CARRIER INFO - NONE
SERIAL NUMBER -
SIGNING - production
LOCK STATE - UNLOCKED
Thankyou
Which are those important data?
Which ROM version is installed?
Have you got an OTG cable for connect a USB stick?
As first simple step, enter in recovery and wipe only cache and dalvik, than reboot.
Stuck on the multicoloured X on startup for long time.
Important Data is Phone Numbers Pictures Videos Messages.
I went into recovery done wipe cache phone restarted but same problem still same problem stuck on the multicoloured cross.
For recovery mode when the green android appeared I had to hold the power button and volume up button to get options.
I have an OTG cable and USB stick.
I believe it may be a software problem.
I need to try to flash this GT-i9250 without deleting any data on the phone surely there must be a non wipe firmware method I do have a non wipe file but I dont dare try it just waiting for more feedback and see what happens.
Im not sure what ROM ive got on here right now baseband and rest of the details are above it may be 4.2.2 not sure can you tell from details above?
Appreciate your reply Kerpert.
Thank you.

Your bootloader is unlocked. You could boot it into bootloader/fastboot mode, flash TWRP recovery, then reboot into recovery and save your photos and videos at least.

Have you a custom ROM? Which one and which version?
If you have lock state unlocked, flash the twrp recovery, download it from
https://dl.twrp.me/maguro/
Copy the custom recovery into the directory where you have kept the adb and fastboot files,
type the following command to install the custom recovery image onto your Nexus device
fastboot flash recovery <recovery_image_file.name>
fastboot reboot-fastboot
Click to collapse
connect the pendrive via OTG cable
use up/down volume to select recovery mode and press power
in recovery mount all the partitions,
go into backup
select system, boot, data
set storage to USB-OTG
start backup
Unmount the usb and disconnect from the phone
connect the stick to the pc and check if the files have been all copied.
create a folder C:\backup\
connect the Nexus via USB cable to the PC, in the prompt window type
adb pull /sdcard/ C:\backup\

Now you have to reflash the same existing ROM from recovery, wipe only cache and dalvik at the end, reboot.
Hi Kerpert Im not sure what the current firmware of my phone is I think its 4.2.2 can you tell what rom I have got from the build date with the details above?
Please can you tell me exactly what to do in BABY STEPS lol so its 100% clear so I cant make a mistake! PLEASE I cant lose my IMPORTANT DATA!
I need step by step detail e.g Which version TWRP etc... and so on!
Mr Rahim Ali thank you for your response!
I really appreciate your time and effort Kerpert in trying to help me!
Thank you!
Sorry I can't understand which ROM you are using from the information upon.
Wait someother of expert that know it and maybe can give better suggests.
My idea is to do a nandroid backup and save it on pc and only after this try to bring back to life the phone, firstly by flashing the same rom you have installed (but need to identify it exactly), if it will boot, you could try with Titanium Backup to restore what you need but I'm not 100% sure it will work (you could also try to restore with TWRP, but dunnot if you can select only some apps).
Avoid to wipe DATA and INTERNAL STORAGE.
It would be very easy to find out current ROM information once you have flashed TWRP recovery. Just boot into recovery, mount system and then make a copy the file build.prop from the /system folder to USB OTG or directly to your PC. Open the file with Notepad or any other text editor. It should contain the required information.

You should have Android SDK Platform Tools installed. You can download from here.
Download the latest recovery from here or here and copy it to your hard drive e.g. in a folder called c:\maguro
You should have Universal Naked Drivers installed which you can get here.
Reboot your phone into fastboot/bootloader mode and connect it to your PC.
Provide the location where you extracted the universal naked drivers if Windows needs to install drivers.
Give the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery c:\maguro\twrp-3.2.3-0-maguro.img
and you're done!
@Snipergti, any luck?

Now that you do have TWRP installed, the very first thing you should do is take a full Nandroid backup and store it in a safe place that is NOT your phone, i.e., your PC or on a USB OTG drive.
The second thing you should do, if you haven't done so already, is to boot into TWRP, connect to your PC (or plug in the above-mentioned USB OTG device) and move your DCIM and/or Download (and any other pertinent) folders from your internal storage to said backup device.
Now, to proceed...
Boot into TWRP, hit the Mount button then select/check system. It is checked off/unmounted by default
then go back, hit the Advanced button and then File Manager
Browse to /system where you should see build.prop
select it, then copy to any location on your internal storage. connect to PC while still in recovery and copy the build.prop file from internal storage of phone where you pasted it to your PC
open the file in any text editor like notepad
now begins the guesswork part
slowly go through the text file and see if you can spot which version of Android you have installed.
IMM76I and IMM76K are 4.0.4
JRO03O is 4.1.1
JZO54K is 4.1.2
JDQ39 is 4.2.2
JWR66Y is 4.3
Hope this helps.
