Last week my Nexus 7 (2013 wifi) updated to 4.4.3 and it has been working fine for the last few days.
Then suddenly it stopped connecting to my home wifi, in the space of a few seconds, the signal goes from excellent to weak even though I am only a few metres away from the router. It will not automatically try to connect, but when I hit connect it goes from a strong signal icon, saying 'connecting' then back to 'saved' then to 'disabled', then 'not in range' then strong again etc. Each time I try to connect it tries to connect then a second later goes back to 'saved' without trying to do it again.
I have tried static ips, changing the settings on the router, taking off security completely, changing channels, and it acts just the same.
It was rooted and with the toolkit have tried reverting back to stock and unrooting it and although the process says it is a success, I cant get past the first page as you have to log on to a wifi network and it still is doing the same thing.
Is this a hardware or software issue?
All the other devices in the house connect to the wifi network without a problem it is just this now which without wifi is basically a brick.

I don't understand this: you updated for 4.4.3, then reverted back to stock. Can you elaborate on this point, please?
If you did not try a data wipe, you can try deleting the following two folders and rebooting: /data/misc/dhcp, /data/misc/wifi

By stock I meant flashing a stock image and unrooting it. It was stock anyway but rooted. I also tried a full data wipe in custom recovery.
The problem is, I now can't get past the first page when starting up as you have to log into a wifi network before you can get into the phone.
(1)Try rebooting your router.
(2)You may be able to bypass the welcome screen by tapping on the four corners of the screen starting from top left and going clockwise.
[Note: I borrowed number 2 from Mooem on android central. You should thank him if that one works for you.

Thank you, but rebooting was the first thing I tried.
I also just tried tapping the four corners of the welcome screen but that didn't work either.
It is becoming apparent that perhaps it has a hardware fault as I would have thought a hard reset would have cleared up any software issues.
After a few more frustrating hours, I managed to flash a custom rom on it, no joy, then flashed back stock, did a full erase, nothing.
I then sat on the router settings, took off security, changed channels, changed frequency, still the same.
The I took the back off, the 4 springs are still there so it is not a connection problem.
So has the wifi just died?
The strange thing is after most logging on attempts, the wifi signal for the router dissapears or says disabled and then comes back again about 10 seconds later.
I cant get past the login screen to put debugging on so that I can lock the tablet so that I can at least take it back to where I bought it from. The tapping the four corners thing doesn't work with this rom although it strangely did with the custom rom (CleanRom 4.4.3).
Do I just bin it and buy another one?

I don't think you need to have debugging on. Just boot into the bootloader manually and then you should be able to lock it.
If you turn off bluetooth, then all is ok. Seems to be a bug in update to 4.4.3

Perhaps the most annoying thing is that I had stock rooted....then I switched to Liquid Smooth v2.2 (I'm just saying because the problem has spanned across both ROMs....thus it can't be a ROM issue)
But pretty much, when the WiFi is connected, sometimes it'll cut out...and go to 3G.....then maybe it'll come back again, and maybe it doesnt.
Only time the problem gets manually fixed is if I go to the pulldown menu and click on WiFi (the WiFi button is already lit, but I unclick it, then click it again) and then it'll come back.
But if I go to settings --> WiFi, it will force close. Only way to fix it is from the pulldown menu.
My WiFi policy is set to "never sleep" which is fine because it goes into sleep mode when I use DS Battery Saver.
Can someone help me, so that it doesn't automatically disconnect? Thanks!!
I'd go back to full stock
[ROM/RESTORE][!MB1 OTA!](3-05)Quick Return to UNROOTED STOCK WITH FLASH COUNT RESET
and see how things go, I've heard that using root toolkit can cause weird wifi problems if that was used to achieve root.
I'd stay on stock for a few days. If wifi stays wonky then bring it in to sprint. if not then try to root again. (if you used the toolkit then use the method outlined by qbking777 - you can find his channel on youtube)
Good luck

Well this problem doesn't occur in other home's WiFi, only mine.
And it's been recent, probably like 2 months.

Ah, well that would have been good to mention before
things i would check:
It may be due to your security type on your router.
I have mine set to WPA2/PSK; you might play with that.
any new apps installed on your phone
maybe a firmware update to the router if you've updated the modem on your phone
if not, maybe update the modem on your phone
if all else fails. I'd still go all the way back to stock and check it out. because that gives you a know starting point with not augmentation.
Ok so I had this same problem a while back and after a little Google-fu I found a solution.
I found that people were able to fix it by changing the SSID of their wireless access point. I changed the SSID that my router was broadcasting so it would have ONLY alphabetical characters (went from MOTOROLA-8472J to MOTOROLA) and the problem magically fixed itself.
Dont know why this happened, but it seems like its a problem across Android, as opposed to a single device
Hope this helps
Mine is like JMF23 but I'll change it to something else.
Problem isn't just my router. I just went to a friend's and it's the same thing. I am extremely frustrated and I have no idea what to do.
The WiFi keeps connecting...then disconnects. When I go to the settings, the IU freezes. I can only enable WiFi again from the pulldown menu.
Did you try going back to full stock as jdelano mentioned above?
I need major help!
I am currently on my third HTC One, after two attempts at a solution, and I am still having the same problem. Here it is: I will connect to my Wi-Fi at home, successfully browse a few pages online, press the power button to put it to sleep, press the power button again to turn it back on, then see (in the status bar) the Wi-Fi disconnect then reconnect, try to browse more pages online with no luck because the connection does not work. The only way I can consistently get Wi-Fi to work on this phone is after waking up my phone from sleep I have to turn Wi-Fi off then back on to re-establish the connection.
I've check my settings extensively and changed a few defaults in an attempt to get this to work. Here are my settings currently: "Keep Wi-fi on during sleep" - Always; "Wi-fi Frequency band" - 5 Ghz only; "Wi-Fi optimization" is checked; "Best Wi-Fi perfomance" is checked. My Wi-Fi password was entered correctly and I am currently writing this on a laptop connected to the same home network.
I am at my wit's end. I just want this beautiful phone to work properly. Are there any suggestions as to what might be causing this and how to fix this situation? Or am I doomed to an endless cycle of HTC One exchanges until I find one that works? Please help! Thanks.

Honestly, 3 HTC Ones having the same problem, and such a specific same problem... Sounds like a problem with your router.
I would try totally resetting your router. Not just unplugging it, but resetting it completely and setting it up again.
I had something similar happen to me (phone wouldn't connect to WiFi upon wake-up, I also had to turn WiFi off then back on) with my HTC Evo several years ago, I exchanged the Evo thinking that was the issue but the exchanged Evo did it too. Re-setup my whole network and have never had the problem again.

I will give that a try. I'm thinking the same way. There's no way I can go through 3 phones and have the same problem and be the only one who is having this problem. I will gladly wear my dunce cap if it works. I just want to end this Shakespearean tragedy.
And to answer andybones, yes the default is to have that selection unchecked so I had the problem even with unchecked.

OR
VZW needs to drop an OTA, QUICKer
Go to a Starbucks, friend's house or something and test it out.
The problem has to be with your router. My One has the best WiFi connection of any device in my house except when I can't run hardwire to my desktop. But that has two 3" antennas.
It's the security, if you're running WPA2 it might have problems. Try changing encryption to TKIP.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. What solved the problem for me was that I went to the Verizon store, had the technician help out, and they Googled the problem and saw that a factory reset would solve the issue. I never saw this result when I Googled the solution, but I went along with it. This worked in the store and I was able to connect to the wi-fi hotspot in the store. When I went home the wi-fi connection worked just fine. The reason I didn't do this in the first place is because I did a factory reset on the first two phones I had and the problem persisted. For whatever reason it worked this time.

i bought htc one and it seems i also have this issue ..BUT .. i have an wifi extender and seems it attachs with it very smoothly .. so i think the problem is inside the router it self ..ill try to figure out why .
EDIT : The problem seems to be only exist on the D-Link Routers which i have "Not sure if all router or just mine" .. it gotta be frequency disturbing or something
Same problem for me. here is what ive gone through..
Just got the phone today OUT OF THE BOX
first thing i seriously tried was connecting to my linksys router with a wpa2 algy.
im on a dumb data plan and need to conserve, Anyway wifi was having a hard time connecting so i slapped the thing in airplain mode and tried to to reconnect to the router.
no dice, ok.. hmm did a factory reset twice, you name it i tried it.
taking it in the store for a replacement this week.
No need
I found out the problem is in the router it self .. you see , it connects to some old routers in condition they dont have password ... Im not sure why but i changed my router and with new one and gave it password and everything works fine now.
The problem seems to be in old routers i think.
Edit : my new router is tp-link im not sure about others

Thanks bro that was right
So I'm running stock 4.4.2 Rooted, and as of 2 weeks ago, I'm unable to connect to wifi at my gym. The signal strength is strong, yet I try to connect and after awhile of attempting to connect over and over again nothing happens, but sometimes I get an error saying "failed to connect, network to slow" or something along those lines. My wifi works perfect fine at home though. All info I could find just leads to factory reset which won't happen for me. I've deleted that wifi over and over and put the password in again several times, no change. It's only me with this issue though and as I said, friends with the exact same setup can connect perfectly fine. This just happened out of no where one week after working fine.
Well now that I think of it, over a period of two more weeks before the no connection at all issue, it was starting to turn into a crawl for speed but only for me.. Stock everything Rooted, and stock kernel.

.....have the gym reset their router..... cause if you can still connect to other WiFi out there then i think it less of your phone and more of the router at fault here
Well, then why is only my phone effected? People with the same version and Rooted and such don't have this issue

my only other suggestion would be to flash Ktoonez(might have misspelled his username) TW Kernel and Tweaker and to Flash the NDC modem; from personal experience NDC modem gives me better 4g signal....yet it also gives me better WIFI signal as well as connectivity, some will say it doesn't affect WIFI but it did for me so you can try that since you don't want to Factory Data reset it.
Well my phones disconnected anyhow. I can only use wifi really so I keep it in airplane mode with wifi enabled
Hey all. I need some advice. This morning my G3 (D850) dropped WiFi connection for no reason. It says the signal is good but the network info says saved, secured. It will attempt to connect over and over again and if it does connect the signal is weak as can be and it drops the connection within 2 seconds. My coworker has a G3 also and is connected to the same work network I am. His connection says excellent where as mine said good. His device connects just fine with full bars. I'm baffled. I've already tried manually selecting 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz instead of auto select and that didn't help at all. I've tried manually turning off WiFi and turning it back on. I've tried turning airplane mode on and then off to refresh the connection and that didn't help. I've done a battery pull as someone in one of the android authority forums suggested that (apparently I am not the only one having this issue.), didn't work. I've unchecked WiFi optimization - no dice. There was another post on a different forum here on XDA that said turning off WiFi and then deleting the WiFi config folder located in data/etc/wifi and then rebooting fixed the issue for them so I tried that. After reboot when I tried to turn on WiFi my G3 rebooted itself. Does it everytime. SO, I had to restore to a nandroid backup (btw I'm on rooted stock 10f) to get the phone to stop hating my WiFi toggle attempts. Last ditch effort I did a factory reset hoping for an easy fix... Nope. I don't know what else to try. It was fine yesterday all day. This morning it was perfectly fine and then randomly started having this issue. I haven't altered any system files whatsoever. I really don't want to send my device to LG for warranty replacement so I'm hoping someone can help me out that may have had this issue and resolved it. The only difference between my device and my coworkers device is he is still on 10d and I am on 10f. That could be the issue I guess but that doesn't really explain why my device has been perfectly fine until this morning and I've been on rooted 10f for weeks. I am planning on flashing back to straight bone factory stock 10d when I get home here in a few hours from work but Idk if that will help or not. Judging from the amount of google search results of "LG G3 WiFi connection problems" this seems to be an issue for several people. I won't know if it's on the software side or hardware side until I get home but in the meantime has anyone had these issues at all? People have had success in changing to Static IP but I would have to do that for every connection I attempt to connect to and that's a pain in the a$$. Also, that does nothing to identify the root cause of the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks for the reply. So it turned out my phone just randomly decided it doesn't like my work network anymore. Idk why lol. I got home and it hooked right into WiFi. Gf's WiFi and open networks as well. I call shenanigans. I went ahead and flashed back to 10d anyway though.

I am having the same issue! But it is happening in other networks too...sometimes I get the phone to connect but it only works for a while and when I check the networks it only says Saved, even if I try to connect again
Having the same issue, whether at work or home, my wifi has become near useless. I've even gone as far as trying a different ROM. Didn't work.
Same thing here
I also have tried factory reset, installed a new ROM, changed settings in my router... but the problem remains I don't know what to do anymore, I use wifi a lot!! I searched through other topics but no one seem to know how to solve it. Unfortunately my warranty already expired, I took my phone to some technicians but honestly it didn't help at all...they all said it was a software bug and I should wait for an update but if it was just that a new ROM would fix it,right?
I am not very familiar with phone hardware but I assume that if it was a hardware problem I wouldn't be able to turn it on or connect to any network, right?? (any experts here???)
Any solution is welcomed.
anyone please?? :crying:
P.S : I tried a new baseband, new kernel and new ROMs. So far, nothing changed.
I can connect sometimes but get kicked out within minutes. At other times I only get the saved, secured message.

Had WiFi dropouts on every LG ROM on this device.
It would drop on any WiFi network I tried. My old phone and all other devices have no issues at all.
Bit the bullet and unlocked bootloader and went to CM13, rock solid WiFi now. IMO LG's software is borked.

Right now there is only one way: LG Developer program.
I think that is problem with 6.0
My network is ipv4 and i think phone force ipv6. In developer options have option to use lollipop settings but i think that is not doing any better
There was an issue with Verizon 12B that was recalled with similar issues.
Never had Wi-Fi issues otherwise. It was patched in 13B

Same with me on 20a... wifi connects but there's no internet connectivity. Then it comes good for a while but eventually drops the wifi connection completely. Sometimes it forgets the wifi password and I have to re-enter it. Makes the phone essentially useless on wifi. A factory reset seems to be the next step unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Same problem on 20b
The WiFi problem seems to have settled down for me now. I went on a binge of uninstalling and reinstalling apps, cleared all app caches, rebooted several times, and recited some incantations (mostly beginning with f). I haven't spent a lot of time using it on WiFi but it seems a lot more stable. Will keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
I came back to a stock based ROM from CM13 because the lack of camera functionality and all my WiFi dropouts are back again. This is really disappointing with this phone as it is completely random and none of my other phones/devices have ever had problems like this. End of my tether with it to be honest, this phone will be going on eBay at this rate.
Well I've been running catlog tonight and it didn't take long for the WiFi to blip.
If there are any catlog experts out there I would really appreciate it if anyone could have a look to see if there is any indication of what is causing this random disconnection and then reconnect shortly afterwards
Many thanks in advance.
Sorry, can't help with the catlog. But having same problems.
I did 3 hard-resets with always the same result: wifi works fine for 1-2 days, than breaks.
The connection is strong an seems stable but data-throughput and ping times are ugly (0,4 Mb down, ping around 2-3 seconds).
Here's a screenshot that perfectly shows the impact: same phone, same setup, same wifi. just 1 day between the tests.
i.imgur[dot]com/JYI7b9I.jpg (sorry, can not upload pics)
Any ideas how to fix this? a DNS problem?
btw: IPv6 is disabled on the router.
I have the same problem and i found a solution for me. I'm using pebble smartwatch with G4 and i noticed that when i disconnect my watch or turn off bluetooth, wifi stays stable. If you have a bluetooth device like me you can try this method.

I've also had my G4 get into a state where Bluetooth is stopping WiFi from working. I posted a thread about this here. To summarise, I've twice gotten into the state where my WiFi disconnects whenever I put the phone to sleep. When it wakes up, it takes ages to reconnect. Sometimes it fails to authenticate and forgets the password for the WiFi network. Even when it is connected, the connection is very flaky. This only happens when I'm on a 2.4Ghz network and Bluetooth is enabled - if I disable Bluetooth or switch to my 5Ghz network then WiFi is ok.
I've had this happen to me twice now... the first time was straight after the update to MM. I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling apps, and eventually it came good. After a few weeks the phone got into that state again. I tried clearing cache, factory reset, and reinstalling MM using the LG Bridge "Update error recovery" option and nothing helped. Once again I went through my apps one by one and uninstalled and reinstalled them and once again the phone came good.
This is a huge pain in the butt... not sure how long the phone will hold out before it gets into this state again. I really hope there's a MM update that addresses this soon.

I've noticed my Bluetooth problem in two ways. One of them was connecting a Bluetooth speaker while the watch is connected. When i connected speaker too, wifi had no issues.
And the other situation that i made my wifi stable was going into safe mode. Even Bluetooth on i was able to connect and stay connected to wifi when i was in safe mode.
Which apps did you have to reinstall? Do you remember?

I just started going down my app list and uninstalling apps which looked like they might have something to do with bluetooth, then putting the phone to sleep and waking it up to see if the problem was still there. I got a bit slack and maybe uninstalled two or three at a time before testing. I should have been more systematic about it but I wasn't really expecting it to work. I'm pretty sure the last one I uninstalled before things started working was TuneIn Radio so if you have that installed you might want to try uninstalling it. I've since reinstalled it and WiFi is still working.
