Bricked to hell, hoping for help - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. My xperia was flashed with a stock kernel from another model in attempt to recover from a bootloop trying to install TrueAncestor GB Edition. My model is a R800at, but I had assumed it was the global model since it came in xperia packaging and not ATT pakcaging . So I flashed the rom and I thought it would work but it bootlooped. Tried lots of kernels and landed on a R800i stock kernel, which has now made my phone unable to flashmode, fastboot, or even turn on . No red LED of doom, but when I plug my phone in it makes the low pitch USB noise rather than the normal noise. I've tried my best and this is the only phone I've got for around a month when I'd be paid enough for a replacement if this is unrecoverable. Unfortunately, this means I am unable to receive contact from work, friends, family, etc. If anyone can help me you don't know how much I would appreciate it. Thanks for reading and I hope you geniuses can help this poor idiot who thought he could be a rom flashing master. :crying:

Motorola Defy Bricked? Can you help?

Hi,
this is my first message here and I hope it is in the right place.
Only 2 days after getting my defy I already managed to brick it.
Basically, I wanted to add hebrew fonts, was playing arround with a file explorer trying to copy the fonts from the microSD to the /system/fonts/ folder, then as the files were not copied I deleted one of them and tried again. Continued playing arround and then did a restart. Only Motorola logo is showing.
I tried the down arrow for starting in "Android system recovery" and tried both wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. I also tried to apply sdcard:update.zip with only the fonts in it. no luck.
I am reading and reading and not finding anything... Can someone please help me?
i think bricked is when it doesnt start at all, so its not that bad
Someone help this guy
psbh, how do you think the defy feels in hand, i like metalic phones , im not sure with this one, its light and plastic
do you value the build quality extremely , like me?
if so does it feel cheap?
thanks for your reply mariu$!
i have to admit that i already solved it by myself ~embarassed~. i should learn to try everything before i am crying for help like a lil girl.
if anyone would get to see this and had the same problem, how i solved it was by installing RSD Lite and flashing the phone with a new .sbf file. i did feel like i was close to die from sadness...
to the defy: the phone indeed feels cheap and i really doubt its outdoor "abilites". it is light and the big screen and fast processor makes it worth the 300€. i have it since 2 days and already dropped it a couple of time and it stayed one piece
i really dont want it o be cheap
do you have the white version? i think that it looks cheaper because it's as it has a rubber band arround it
i saw you mentioned the price in euros, so you bought it in europe, hows the call quality your hearing?
thanks for your answers
I agree that the white version looks cheaper, thats why I got the back one. At least from the front it looks good
I havent had the chance to call with it yet I rarely ever use mobile phones for calling... but the rest is great!
ill probably buy it too
i think after i dive it in the water a few times, it wont feel cheap, after all not many phones can do that, and it must be build seriously to be able to do that
My alternative was the XT720, but i hate the side part and the blue back
The Build quality however is exceptional
in my opinion it doesn't FEEL cheap. I could understand if someone would say it looks cheap from the back though, but i really like the design.

I got mine back to life after screwing around too much. I'm not allowed to post links yet, so go to the forums at modaco dot com, search for Defy threads started by dkspook, scroll down to the long post on page one. I even posted all the tools you'll need
Please post your results!
@Sorensiim : It works, thanks bro ! i was already near throwing this phone out f the window, thanks again for your support
You can't brick a phone by flashing roms (assuming the rom has no radio image) or recoveries, but can when flashing a new radio image and i think when flashing a new SPL bootloader
Your phone is fine if you can get into any one of the following:
ROM
recovery
Bootloader (fastboot ect)
its when you can not get into any of these, you have a true brick.
Please correct me if i am wrong

Real Brick..
Guys I really need some help here.
I've really bricked my phone! I cant flash any ROMs, even small BOOT ONLY ones.
All I get is "error flashing subscriber unit" error...
I've tried RDS Lite 4.8 and 4.8, with Drivers, every time clean uninstall and install.
RDS can see the phone no problem, I've tried changing setting in RDS, no luck...
This is the log from RDS:
ERROR: Flash failure: Phone[0000]: Error flashing subscriber unit. Device API Error: 0xE0030009 Address: 0xB101F000 Command: ADDR (Error Code: e0030009),
Detailed Error Details: Direction of the Error=1000, Command Value=200000, Code Group Number=35
All this happened suddenly after flashing to Chinese 2.2 with Higgsy Mod coming from stock T-mobile UK.
I've searched everywhere, but no one know what's going on.
Any Ideas Please...
Bricked defy for sure
My defy isnt starting at all, was flashing a sbf file when my windows crashed and now my phone is neither entering recovery nor bootloader. I think its bricked but any suggestions would be appreciated( urgently needed).
Everything needed to flash a defy, don't kill it and know what you are doing is in a Sticky in the forum. Very first post.
Edit: That's what happens when you dont see the post date hehe.
To the last poster, if you cant really enter Bootloader or Recovery, I'm afraid you really have a Brick

First make sure your battery has a full charge. You can look up the McGyver usb charging method. Your battery might not have a charge anyone. With this method you can flash another sbf. If this doesn't work then yes, you have a brick.

This happened to me, the phone wouldn't turn on but when plugged in, RSD lite still recognized the phone. If this is the case flash away. Always make sure your battery has enough juice in it. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies guys, btw can you please elaborate on McGyver usb charging method, and my phone is not at all recognised by rsd lite and initially when i was about to flash ie when my phone was is a working condition i had some issues with rsd lite v4.9 too, it would flash only one specific sbf file and none other would start(start bar wouldnt get highlighted but for that one specific fixed sbf file), the only thing that i can see on my phone is when i connect it to usb a white led glows, and finally god forbid if my phone is bricked what do i do? take it back to the shop coz its still within warranty(hardly a month over ) is it ruined by all the firmware stuff that i did? This is one of the best phones ive ever and i dont wwant to lose it. Please help me out! Eagerly waiting for your suggestions...

I also got the white LED, have you tried pushing volume down while the phone is connected to your computer with RSD lite running, when I did this, RSD recognized my phone even though my phone didn't show the bootloader. As far ar sbf files I not all worked with my phone. I tried a good deal of sbf's. Try until you find one that boots up.

I think the one that worked for me was the UK Tmobile Build # JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1.
I used baseband switcher after flashing both CM7 and MIUI (current) to get 3g working.

[Q] Need help / Advice possible Brick :D

So, hey guys, i've used this site a lot in the past, but now i need some help / advice, so i've registered. The following isn't going to be pretty but i'll explain it as best as i can.... infact, i can paste the email i sent to Sony asking for advice, it was this morning, i don't know if they operate or care
Hello people at Sony, my stupid head appears to have bricked my Xperia Arc S Android phone, it was still under warranty until i decided to unlock the bootloader, then i was having trouble restoring it back to stock android, this resulted in me trying to lock the bootloader. But alas, nothing now happens except a lonely green light flashing every so often, if i hold down menu, a blue light appears, which is charming, but then it dissipates and im left lonely again. With just a bricked phone and little dignity.
What are my options, by rules, it's void of warranty, can it be fixed? Can i pay for it to be fixed? Will my Natwest Insurance cover it on the grounds of Accidental damage (My stupidity) and Breakdown due to electrical fault, that being, no electrical softwareness is been transitorized.
I decided to go custom due to the wait for the Xperia update for my phone, out of the 273 S-I variant versions of the Arc S, 246 have gotten the update, but not mine, months had gone by, day turned to night, night turned to day, and i got desperate, i decided to root... for the first time. (And now last)
What i did learn, apart from technology will rise up and defeat us all, is JellyBean works very well to some degree on this phone, HOWEVER, the lack of Flash player caused bad results when playing content, im not sure what piece of code on the JellyBean CM10/Paranoid Android release was rendering it, but if you can get past the lack of flash for this and render images in its mobile bravia engineness then it will work a treat, and i mean it, it really did run well, obviously it was customness, but i digress...
Can anything be done? I do so love my Arc S, and just so you know, if it can't be repaired and I have to change phones, it will still wear the brand logo... Sony Ericsson... and if its your newer phones, that lack Eric's Son, i shall scribe his name proudly across the top with a sharp implement with pride. (With the care of an Adult, or someone equally minded)
Thank you lovely people over at Sony.

So, basically it doesnt boot, apart from it does vibrate with button holds and the LED flashes. I tried flashing it with flashtool and stock ROM, but flashtool came back saying it needed unknown sources and debugging mode activated, which makes me think, it could be salvagable and not bricked, however how can i change those settings if i can't get into the phone itself, is there a bypass?
On a side note, i can Hold Menu, plug the phone into my computer and it goes into blue light mode, i cant remember the term for this
but its what i was using for flashboot, you reckon i could flashboot out of this? I was trying so many different methods to try and custom rom my phone that everything got confusing, which was best to use etc, and on another note the phone never booted when i tried to relock it, so im unaware if it finished, it didnt boot at all, and this is the point im at now.
Fortunately i picked up a Xperia U for £135, second hand, actually cheaper than my Arc S second hand, crazy really, but you can see why with the size difference and a couple of small spec differences.
Any help would be appreciated. This isn't obviously the best situation but i'm wondering if anyone has encountered this stupid mistake i've cast upon myself XD
Thanks in advance.
Wait...
I've checked the fastboot status of my phone using Flashtools, and it says my phone needs to be rooted first... hmmm it was rooted, maybe it got undone with the bootloader thing, i guess i can try but i can't access the phone to debugg or allow unknown sources.
Hi Stu15,
The fact that you can boot holding down the menu button is good.
You can probably flash a custom kernel onto your phone this way using the following command.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If you have a rom that you want to use, then it usually comes with a custom kernel (called boot.img most of the time) inside the rom's zip file.
Most custom kernels have CWM recovery built-in, and here's the trick to enter recovery -
After you turn on the phone, wait for the hardware keys to light up.
Just in case you miss this, the coloured led will light up purple at the same time
When this happens, press (and release) the "volume down" button once or twice.
Then you should see CWM recovery in a few seconds.
So what you do is copy the rom to your sd card (just plug the card into your computer to do this).
Then flash the custom kernel that came with the rom.
Then boot into CWM and flash the rom (you should clear the cache and the dalvik cache before flashing the rom).
If you don't have a preferred rom, then have a look at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
It has lotd of helpful links, near the bottom of the 1st post are a few roms you can try.
I hope that you come right.
Take care,
Hotfingers
Thanks for the info, ive tried this and apparently my phone isnt rooted anymore, it must've locked itself why i tried to undo the rom install, my recovery wasnt working so i was left with little choice. I can try and root the phone but i dont think it will be possible without accessing debugging mode, which is in the phone.. doh
im going to try adb commands to try and work something, then insurance claim. woop :/ lol
[EDIT] IM BACK, im in lol, i managed to find the command to unlock the bootloader, so now im back into CWM, the problem is the recovery doesnt work, so im reinstalling the original package, go into the phone, usb debugging and unknown sources, then i will flash it with stock ROM, should work. best work, i dont know why i did this in the first place... guess i had to learn XD

[Q] Need help with network drop issue in Arc S

Hi all..
I am new to the Arc forum and have already tried searching for any troubleshooting steps but in vain.
I had bought an Arc S from eBay. The problem with the phone is that the network drops after the phone is locked via the power button OR the backlight goes off..when I say network drop, i mean that the phone goes not reachable. However while the display is ON then no problem, I can make calls, send SMS, access internet..everything works till the phone is locked.
(Note: I am unable to contact the seller of the phone on eBay..)
Have already tried hard reset, flashing stock ICS via flash tool, custom ROM etc..I assumed it might be an hardware issue..but the technician couldn't do much..he just replaced the antenna..which didn't solve the problem..
Currently I am on a custom 4.4.2 ROM via CM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Did you try reflashing the baseband ?
You can find them here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688049
Flash one (you should try the -85) through Flashtool and reboot.
Hope I helped.
Cheers.
Thank you for the quick reply..but after flashing the Baseband 85 also I continue to face the same problem...

[Q] starnge problem with my Xperia acro s

hey guys, i have an acro S, its bootloader unlocked and rooted, with 6.2.b.0.211 firmware, a while ago i got an anoying notification saying that there is an update, so i tried to update but because its rooted it wouldnt update the normal way, then i flashed 6.2.b.1.96 kernel only, it was good for 2 weeks, but then today i got a red led, and screen was black, then i almost got a heart attack because i knew it was soft brick or something, i read about it and searched for fix, but after a moment when i tried letting the phone on wall charger till red light disapear, the screen went on, and every thing was normal, relef :victory: , so now i wanted the experts to know about that, and i want to ask for a stable way to get a rooted full 6.2.b.1.96 firmware, or the latest, or even a custom room if its better than the xperia one, tnx for reading and hope you all a brick free day XD
