[Q] Upgrade to Kitkat or stay on Jelly Bean? - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I've had my Z2 stolen a few days ago and I'm going to get a Z1 compact to replace it. Sad story I know
Now I have a simple enough quesiton. The device itself comes with Android 4.3 and 16 GB of internal storage.
One thing that bothered me on Z2 was that I couldn't move the apps to the SD card, but with Android 4.3 I can.
When I get the Z1c next week I plan to root it, after taking a backup of the TA partition of course, but then I wonder will I be able to move the apps to SD storage and are there any issues with this?
It's my first 4.4 device that will be rooted, I was reluctant to root the Z2 since there was no way to backup the DRM keys, so I'm not aware of any limitations or drawbacks of upgrading to the latest version of Android.
I don't mind staying on 4.3 if that's the advice from the community
Thanks!

Thanks mate!
Should I root first, or let the phone update itself first?
And last question - is there an app or hack for KitKat to easily move applications and data to SD card?
I used to do it with Titanium Backup Pro, but I'm not sure that option exists anymore.

Theres an Xposed module to enable the old behaviour of the external Memory Access. It's called HandleExternalStorage

[Q] Super Noob, which method do you recommend?

Xperia Play R00X
Android 2.33
Build 3.0.1.E.0.88
Verizon
Just got the phone a few days ago. I want uninstall all the preloaded games and remove the rest of the bloatware that I saw in another thread.
After removing the bloatware I want unroot and incase of OTA updates.
It's my first android phone and am pretty worried that I might brick the phone.
1- Which method do you recommend that I use to ROOT and Unroot with the 2.33 update?
2- I have a 32GB card on the way can I copy the contents of the 8GB card to the 32card with no repercussions?
Sorry for silly questions, it's my first new phone in 6 years and man Android is amazing. I wish NANOSTUDIO was available.

Use cola rom if you want all the bloat and everything gone
cola is only 55 mb.
I would use Doomlords root tool that includes busy box
& yes you can just copy / paste the whole card contents. wont hurt a thing
Also you cant OTA update if you remove ANYTHING so just forget that idea.

Will easyroot work for JB 14.2.A.1.114??

My phone came with this firmware although I've just bought it about 2 weeks ago. It's running smoothly and I don't mind living with it but I want to root the phone in order to be able to use apps like link2sd to move app from phone storage to external SD. That's basically the only reason I want to root the phone. I just want to know if the easyroot method will work for this firmware and will rooting only be enough to move apps to SD or will I have to flash a custom rom?

[Q] Move Apps to SD Card

I have a rooted Xperia T3 running Android 4.4.2 and FW 18.1.A.21.. How do I move apps to SD? I have tried Apps2SD, AppMgr III and etc. but still can't move downloaded apps to SD. There is also no move to SD button on the AppManager.
Can i ask how you rooted your sony xperia t3? i dont know how you did it because ive been looking for a way to root it for al ong time.
after .25 update it's possible in app settings.
Can't update phone to the last version
Hi, i have Xperia T3 with the 4.4.2 software 18.1.A.1.21 and I didn't recive any update. When I go into the settings and update phone, they ask me that the last update installed but i didn't install new one. I need new upgrade because he has support for moving to the SD card. My phone have warranty for 2 years and I don't want to lose it if I root phone or install manaully update with the flash tool . If anyone know how can I install last update without losing warranty, or if anyone know how to fix that problem with the moving on sd card, I'll be very thankful for that.

[Q] Get "Access Denied" when accessing external SD Card via Wireless Storage

[Q] Get "Access Denied" when accessing external SD Card via Wireless Storage
Am trying to use LG's Wireless Storage function to copy files to the external SD Card from Windows 7 (IE11). Whereas it works fine with the internal memory (sdcard0), but I have only write access to the external SD card. It seems I can only write to it via the USB cable. Any idea why this may be, and more importantly how to fix it? Also why is it all so slow??
You need root for third party apps to be able to write to the sdcard in lollipop.

Thanks. Haven't received the Lollipop update yet, and prefer to wait for the official update. What is the easiest safest way to root? Happy to do this now my warranty has expired... I assume the official Lollipop update will come through even if I root?
Take a look at the CWM 6.0.5.1 thread for v500. I'm assuming you have a v500. If you want to receive the official update from lg (if there is one), then you have to go back to stock with lg tool.
I was under the impression (not sure where from) that the lollipop update was coming , albeit in a few months.
Frankly I can't be bothered with loading a 3rd party operating system like Cyanogen, I did it on my old HTC desire and it took a certain amount of dedication. Having said that I really should root it so I can do things like run Titanium... Is there an easy way to root it? Guess I'll have to do some searches ...
Stumproot is the program I used for 4.2.2. Use the brute force option.
Hmm - I tried stump root , but it says "Device is rooted" (which it isn't). The Grind button is disabled, and there is no Bruteforce button. I am running 4.4.2, maybe that is the problem...

Have you downloaded SuperSu from the play store? This will manage root access. Also, if you are root, highly advise installing recovery and making a backup first thing. The headache this saves later is well worth the effort.

Thanks verymuch, and I know that having recovery set up is a wise thing to do, but can't be bothered with it just yet. I thought simple rooting was easy to do, but I guess it isn't so Ill revisit the whole thing when I have some more time. In the meantime accessing the external SD card will require plugging it into my PC..

Stumproot says you are rooted? You still need SuperSU from the playstore to manage permissions. Rooting is easy.

The problem is that it is NOT rooted, despite what StumpRoot says. Titanium says it is not rooted, and I'm sure I'd remember if it was rooted... SuperSU won't install. I can download the ap but when I run it, it fails to install itself.
I would downgrade to 4.2.2 with LG Tool first, then root and install recovery.

Have found another tool to root it. It then recommend installing TWRP. My question is, if I do this, will LG's Lollipop update still come down automatically (assuming there is such an update).
You have to go back to stock completely (including the recovery) if you want to apply an official LG lollipop OTA.

External SDcard restrictions on Tab S after lollipop upgrade?

Hello all,
Not sure this has been asked yet. I did a search and didn't find anything so please excuse me if I'm asking an answered question. My 8.4" SM-T700 still runs on 4.4 Kitkat. Originally there were external sdcard restrictions where writing to external sd card was locked and one needed to root and download an third party app in order to regain full access. Is this also the case on 5.0.2 Lollipop? I'm thinking of doing an update (finally), but want to know if I'll face the same issues with the external SD on 5.0.2.
All help greatly appreciated.
Regards
Hi.
I had been running stock kitkat on my 10.5" for 18 months and i just updated to lollipop, With kitkat i had to used the kitkat microsd fix to enable write/delete but since i updated to lollipop i have not had an problems writing or deleting files on my microsd, so that`s my experience.
John.
Thanks Tinderbox! Much appreciated.
The fix still works on lollipop 5.0.2
