I have lyapota kernel with undervolt but get this cpu temp. Is this normal?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That looks extremely hot my friend, I have never seen mine that hot.
What was your phone doing to reach those temperatures?
What are your settings?
Which version of kernel?
Governor?
Voltages?
here's my temps
Using lm#17 pre aroma
-75 cpu undervolt
Even under full load I'm only seeing a maximum of around 50-55

Seems really hot to me, try 017 and see how it differs mate, undervolt it a little more too

Highest at 81°C is normal...it won't go pass that. Stock kernel capped at 85°C. When reach at that temp, CPU will be throttled to maintain below capped temp.
Just don't play heavy games while charging. Almost can fried egg with this phone. [emoji39]

Will there be any problems with my phone if I have max cpu speed at 800 or lower?

No. Just don't expect enough of a battery gain for it to be worth it.

I use my phone in a very hot environment so I just want it to stay cool.
How much will under scaling effect heat produced?

The term is underclocking. It might help, but CPU temperatures vary with each phone, the best bet would be to just give it a try.

K I'll try that
Thx for replying

If you haven't already, you might want to also install a widget that monitors vital stats, like temperature. I use one called TEMP+CPU Pro. It monitors CPU usage, clock speed, temperature, and available RAM and only takes up the space of one icon on your desktop.
I've been capped to 800mhz on a kernel that goes up to 1.3ghz for 2 weeks now. No problems.
Well if it makes your face smile, I run at 600mhz.

Seriously?
Do you get any lag?
I'm currently on EXT4, VisionKernel 1.0, deOdexed EC05 and when I clock down to 600 MHz, my Epic stutters here and there.

You can raise them just not to much. If you go to high you might get boot loops, or you might fry something. Why would you want to though? Higher voltages just run the battery down faster and provides little to no noticable improvement in performance.
I have been overclocking my CPU lately, sitting good right now at 1.2 ghz. I have it undervolted as well to prevent overheating. My question is what temperature do you associate with too hot? 100 F? more?
I dont like letting my phone get over 95 F, but im just curious to know what is considered a safe temperature range.
I cant directly measure my CPU temp, as that feature is not offered on our phone which really sucks, i have to go by the battery.
I have not the slightest clue but I would think you would go by how it feels in your hand and whether or not you can "smell" the cpu burning. I usually dnt clock it above 1.2 unless I'm gaming which is bad but I have it setup by a laptop cooler so it never overheats. Id say anything more than 90 would be pushing it.....

Not true put it like this our phones automatically shut off @ 122*F I go to 115*F when i play GTA 3 @ 1.5Ghz, but i can clock to 104*F just streaming music on WiFi.
So id say personally probably around 110*F+
Yes 105*F is hot but don't run it that high forever though.
But thats the battery, CPU stays fine so id say if your running 100*F+ For more than an hour than it might overheat??? Not completely sure but like i said everyday i play GTA 3 and get up to those temps.

Do you undervolt your cpu or run it on stock cpu voltages? I'm currently running samurai assassination and my phone always crashes if I undervolt it, and usually crashes when I run it at max voltages, but only when I overclock.

I would consider 114 f overheating, that's when I have setcpu underlock to 800 mhz

Used to but because i play GTA 3 now i dont if undervolt that defeats the sole purpose to overclock so i can play without lag, once you undervolt it decreases performance but however gains in battery life.

His epic is weird undervolting drops his preformance whereas mine increases preformance......

I would agree, 105, 108 would be ok but not for extended periods. Taking the back off usually cools the phone almost 5 degrees for me, but Epics are weird

I'd say that everyday during the summer in Phoenix I'd be overheating as the daily temp rises to 115+ for weeks.

I do this too, for the battery anyway. If it overheats I uc. If I'm under %80 I uc to 800, %50 600, 30% 400

But not an option to Overvolt, and choose an i/0 scheduler. plus its a bit faster to use and works with other programs nicely
If battery temperature goes up to 40 degrees celsius, is it considered as overheating for the xperia play?
/==(CyberScopes)==\
Well, i got same when was outside 40 celsius, lol. I'd recommend to change the CPU clock.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I don't know for sure, and it certainly depends on the phone, but I don't think 40C is harmful. Pretty sure it gets bad around 60C
Yep.
30 is normal tempature.
30.2 = 60
60 celsius is harmful.

If you feel the phone gets warmer you should consider some undervolting as an option.
Will undervolting make performance worser in anyway?

Nope. The only issue is that your phone will reboot if you undervolt too far. Which is why you must make absolutely sure your voltage is stable before setting the voltages on boot.
Thanks everyone.

I have hit almost 120 F before. Not much to worry about if you're a casual user. Thermal throttle should just kick in.

highest ive seen is a cpu temp of 109C. btw 109C = 228.2F. the devices safety shutdown is at 110C. i have a feeling that you posted a battery temp of 105F. 105F for a cpu temp is quite cool, considering the body temp averages at 98.6F.

Oh, I assumed you meant the battery temp indicator that most programs give out. I'm not sure what I've hit on my CPU, but if you hit a temperature too high, cpu or battery, thermal throttle will either scale down the frequency to cool down your processor or turn itself off/reboot if the cpu or battery hits too high of a temperature, thus saving your phone.
