[Sony Xperia M] Backup TA - root required - Sony Xperia M

Hi. I want to make a backup of TA, but I can't root my phone - I tried to use "DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit". Is there any way to do root? I have stock Android 4.3

Go check the general sub-forum. You'll find the nicki root toolkit there.

Is there any way to root without downgrading?

The only way to root without downgrading is to unlock your bootloader, install a kernel with CWM embedded and then install the SU binaries through CWM.
The guide for this is in the general sub-section too.

That is correct, yes. The only way to root without downgrading is to use the nicki root toolkit. This is because all exploits used in roots on previous firmwares have been patched by Sony.

But if I will downgrade, my TA backup will be good? Or useless?

I have no clue, some users have reported that you can restore your 4.1.2/4.2.2 TA on the 4.3 firmware however. I would suggest downgrading, rooting, use the nicki root toolkit to upgrade to the newest firmware (whilst also rooting it), taking the TA backup from that firmware and then unlocking your bootloader (if you wish so).

[Q] LT28i Root

Hi Guys!
I'm sorry if this question has been asked a gazillion times, but I want to know what I'm getting into first as I am new to rooting.
I have a Sony Xperia Ion (LT28i) with Jelly Bean on it (4.1.2). I was simply wondering if the process outlined in this thread would work:
[Tutorial][ION] Flashing Firmware and Rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812168
Once again, sorry for a repeat but I'm not exactly sure about what my firmware is etc.
Thanks!

yes that will work..go to settings>about phone> and you will find all the info abt ur software versions...u are basically looking for build number here..
Build Number is:
6.2.B.0.211
Therefore since it appears to be the most recent firmware, I can simply skip to the rooting portion of the guide correct?
Thanks, I've been hoping to get my phone rooted to get rid of all the bloatware.
You guys are awesome!
I have attempted to root the device to no avail. Does the firmware have to be flashed over? Or can I use the firmware currently on it. If it has to be flashed over, my phone does not appear to have drivers in the flash tool. Can I flash without installing a driver?

u have an unlocked bootloader or locked???
I believe it is locked as I have not done anything to the phone besides upgrading to JB from ICS. I used the Sony PC Companion to do so as well.
Edit: Bootloader is locked and apparently cannot be unlocked. (According to System info)

It doesnt matter...can you tell me the steps that you did briefly and where you faced the problem?

It tells me to use the display system check but it just gets stuck hanging at a white screen on my phone and the program does not continue from there. If you could tell me the version of the root program and which option to use, I might be able to do it, but I've tried a few different versions of it with different options. Not exactly sure what I can do.
Edit: Do I have to flash my firmware before trying to root? It doesn't say anywhere that I have to, however could that be what's not allowing me to root?

This method doesnt work with your .211 fw. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460&highlight=root+211+ion
I've tried that thread's root method. All I keep getting is a screen that it pauses at basically indefinitely, and none of the other root options work.

Currently there is no way to root with locked bootloader. You need recovery to root at the moment and the only way to get one is to flash a kernel with recovery embedded in it, which requires an unlocked bootloader.

I'm on mobile currently so I could not see that. But that shouldn't be possible, all exploits (what we know of) are patched on 4.3 so the only way to get root would be to push files through recovery, requiring an unlocked bootloader currently.
I asked doomlord yesterday about if there were any exploits or tools and he said "No exploit currently works".

I did a TA backup in 4.2.2 with root then I unlocked the bootloader to root 4.3 through recovery and after that I relocked the bootloader with the TA backup I got earlier. And again, just search, if you had searched before opening a new thread you would have already found your answer

I'd rather bump this thread instead of making a new one.
Will rooting via Lorenzoval link lose any data and/or unlock the bootloader? Any can rooted phone still receive and install official updates? Sorry, first time using a Sony phone, used to use Nexus. Thanks before.

You will not lose any data and your phone's bootloader will not be unlocked. You can install official updates but you will lose root.

The blindness is strong in this one. Was just so used to StockByNUT and flashing the kernel through .ftf that it surprised me to only have a zip
How i did:
1) Flashed .133
2) Flashed Deodex
3) Flashed Debloat
4) Flashed Honami kernel
5) Cleaned cache + dalvic
Everything working but i get notification, that there is update .133 and i get it if i connect my phone with computer.
How to lose it?
Can i flash this straight from ihackers 4.1?
Hey!
Unfortunately I can't install Xposed framework on this. I get "mount: permission denied". It work on .108
Also, I can't delete any system app with Titanium Backup. This worked on .108 as well.
Is there something wrong with mounting the system partition?

Bootloader Unlock and phone's encryption support

Dear All,
I was on my way to yet another bootloader unlocked phone of mine, but I happened to have a doubt about a point mentioned on Motorola's official BL unlock link:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
My concern lies with the possible loss of encryption support.
My questions are, will my Addison's encryption be lost if:
I unlock the bootloader but don't flash any custom ROM
&
I Root my phone and use system modifications like use Xposed and Viper4Android
Thank you for your patient and relevant help!
Cheers!!
I unlocked my bootloader and am rooted. Device still shows as encrypted. Not sure why they issued that warning.
are you all using the unlocked GSM model?

Thanks for that info.
With respect to why that warning by Motorola, I believe it is because once we unlock the bootloader and flash custom ROM that might not be complied to support encryption or there might be some bugs in the custom ROM that doesn't enable encryption or if we modify system in such a way after rooting that the encryption might be lost due to these changes.
Hence, I believe this is why Motorola says "You may lose encryption support."
This was my understanding but I wanted to get it cleared on xda.
Can anyone throw some more light on my understanding?
We can then close this thread after complete clarity to all members so this turns out to be a fruitful discussion to most members here.
Cheers!!

Hold up, does systemless root actually work for the Z Play then? I haven't received mine yet, but I was under the impression anything systemless wouldn't work from reading around, like Magisk or systemless SuperSU.

I rooted my Z Play (XT1635-02) recently using phh superuser.
Installed Magisk after that, and it seems to me it's systemless
as Adaway wouldn't work till I did the systemless hack - plus /system was read only

I see, thanks. Yeah, magisk is definitely systemless, good to know it can be used normally.
Just for clarification, you can decrypt by formatting data on twrp. By just unlocking or rooting the encryption does not go away.
