Rooted, s-off vzw m8. After a fresh install I have no network connectivity. I try to alter the default APN but as soon as I change the MCC/MNC numbers the APN disappears from the APN list. This includes any new APN I make as well. Any ideas?
I can use other ROMs just fine, but any time i try to use ViperRom i have no connectivity.
i've tried dirty flashing, clean wipe, and ota updates from older versions. nothing seems to get this working.

Out of the 3 things that can be flashed (ROM, kernel, and radio), what accesses the EPST settings of the phone? I know radio is affiliated with it, but my epst settings also changed when i flashed the kernel. I just want to know what not to do when i get my replacement incredible. Thanks.
Which epst settings specifically?
If you dial *228 to update prl and whatnot it will revert any manual changes. That is the only time my epst settings have changed.
I'm not really sure which settings but I know at least my PRL changes. When i dial *228 i get a message saying they cannot reprogram my phone.
It has happened to me twice. Once when i flashed my radio to 11.19 and also when i flashed the incrediblek kernel to MIUI-gold 1.1.14 ROM while i was using the stock radio.
I know it changes because my reception changes to extended network and is only 1x. If if update the PRL it goes back the verizon network and sometimes i'll get 3G.
I have never heard or experienced any changes in the epst setting when flashing any combination of roms, kernels, or radio.
Those settings are programmed when you dial *228 option 1 to activate your phone and option 2 to update the Preferred Roaming List.
But, to answer your original question:
What accesses EPST?

I would say that all 3 would because those settings tell the phone how to communicate with vzw's network.
Haha okay thanks. I'll just be more careful and thorough when reading directions then. I think I forgot to wipe the dalvik caches when i would flash the kernel/radio if that makes a difference...
I have flashed the MIUI.us 1.9.9 on my phone the other day, and MMS will not work with anything i try. I have tried flashing some random .zip file for CM7, thinking it may work. Nothing.
I have tried to fix the APN settings: by flashing back to stock rom (2.1-update1), backing up the apn with the app, flashing back to MIUI and restore apn's. still nothing. I did this with another apn app. Again nothing.
I then tried to set up the apn setting from my carrier (GCI Alaska) from this: forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/26942-apn-settings-for-gci-cellular/. Again nothing.
And I have rebooted after everything i try.
What could i be doing wrong?
I have recently flashed the virtuous affinity rom and I love it except for the fact that i have experienced several instances of the signal dropping out completely during a call and then coming back to full bars. would this be a radio issue or something different? I also have an issue with not being able to send mms messages. is there a fix to that?
thanks
Hey there.
Whenever I have signal issues...i do the following:
Wipe Fully - and format everything except SD Card.
Download RMK's OTA build...Stock. Easy to find on Virtuous Forums.
Also, find which Radio you would like to use. I use the newer radio and it works ok.
Install and boot - but dont set anything up - you wont need to.
Do A #228 and press 1. Reboot. Then do a #22899 and reboot.
Once done...you can go into your EPST functions if necessary to make any changes.
Otherwise, Download APN Backup & Restore. Once installed, backup your APN settings on your SD Card.
After all of this is said and done you will have the latest PRL updates and a proper MMS APN to use for your future ROM's.
Then you can flash whatever you want...but dont program your phone!
Once you have decided on a ROM that you like, install APN Backup and Restore again.
Make a nandroid backup.
Once done with nandroid, go ahead and delete the current APN and restore your offical APN from the SD Card.
This should work for you.
Anyone else having problems sending or receiving with MMS on the nightly builds for CM 12.1? My SMS works just fine.
I have Ting, which may be part of my problem. I am using the same APN settings that use to work for MMS in CyanogenMod 11.
Yep. I've been fighting this for 3 days now. I must have tried every CM 12.1 variant out there with the same result. The APN list shows Ting... but you cannot select it, modify it, or save it. Reset to Default APN doesn't work... Rebooting 18 times doesn't work... flashing the various APN "fixes" like for FreedomPop, MVNO_CDMA, etc doesn't work. But like you... SMS, Phone, and Data (on WiFi) work fine. However, MMS and data (on 3G/4G) don't work.
What has worked... backing off to either a Stock ROM or CM 11. So something in these recent CM 12.1 builds is just broken. The only reason I was trying to upgrade from CM 11 to CM 12.1 was because of that StageFright vulnerability. So I may just go with the Stock ROM until I see the CM 12.1 APN issue for Ting has been resolved.
I've been using the clear google messaging app from the TBO updater app and just installed their latest hangouts to try. They both have been handling mms better than any other messaging apps and sometimes the stock mms will work by just having the gmessenger app installed. I've been rom hopping lately and it seems pretty much the same for me across most CM12.1 based ROMs. Also, you could try editing the actual apns-conf.xml file under /system/etc/ back it up first tho and for permissions 644. from my Virgin Mobile Tri-Band model S3

You should be able to modify Ting by touching the name, even when the button for selecting it is absent. You may need to add "default" to the type once you have it open. I have Ting and I have had to deal with this somewhat as well. I believe I saw some recent Ting APN updates get pushed through as well. Have you tried Exodus?
There is also another thread in here about lollipop and 5.1 which has information that may help.

Exodus? Nope... but I'll be checking it out now!
If you don't mind me asking more about the APN. How many are actually needed in there? If I were to delete all the APNs and just manually setup the 1 needed... is it just the LTE version pointing to http://mms.plspictures.com ... or ... http://mms.sprintpcs.com and making sure the "type" has "default" in it? It's the one thing that I can't understand. Out of every forum I've read... not 1 mentions just blowing all the APNs away and just simply adding a single APN for Ting. I don't think I really need all 8-16 APNs (depending on the ROM you flash).
And this question is open to anyone. Is there any reason you have to have all those APNs for other networks like Boost, FreedomPop, Boost Mobile, etc? What should the APN contents be for just Ting? Inquiring minds want to know.

I actually tried that myself but didn't have any luck with it sticking past reboot or even holding the data signal right. It's possible it might work. I don't know enough about APN's to say for sure. Did you try adding "default" to the beginning of the Ting APN type and then save it?
Hi all,
After upgrading to Marshmallow, I've had many problems with Xposed. Flashing it seems to completely remove any mobile data/texting functionality. I've seen this on Stock GPE rom, Wolla GPE rom, S.Rom and Skydragon as well. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know a fix?
Thanks!
Suggestions
I'm not an expert but I'd probably try the following steps:
Ensure you're using the latest version of the xposed framework (v79, sdk 23 as of present)
Check APN settings before and after xposed install for any noticeable changes
Flash the latest radio file (you can find radio files here)
You've been clean flashing (wiping data, cache .etc) all these roms right?
Keep me posted

I have flashed v79, sdk23. After flashing Xposed, APN settings completely disappears from the settings app (pretty noticeable I guess ). Also get a "Service not available" toast when I toggle Mobile Data. Pretty sure I have the latest radio. I took the newest Lollipop OTA from T-Mobile before unlocking bootloader/flashing custom rom.
Interestingly, when I tried to dirty flash the rom after Xposed broke stuff (to remove the files since I believe they're installed to /system) mobile data remained broken.
I've gone back to not using Xposed, but Greenify just isn't as good.

Hmmm okay so I've done some research and I have a few ideas if you're willing to put the time in.
Likely solutions -
*#*#4636#*#* in dialer, check phone info -> "Set preferred network type" and make sure it is correct for your desired network (probably GSM)
*#*#4636#*#* -> phone info and turn radio off and then on
Anything unusual under phone info?
Other options (after xposed install) -
Toggle aeroplane mode (sounds simple but you never know)
Boot without sim card inserted, turn off, boot with sim card inserted.
Re-flash latest radio
Long (hopefully failproof ) method -
Completely reset phone using RUU
Install any OTAs
Root, unlock & install TWRP
Install xposed
When you go to settings -> wireless & networks -> more -> cellular networks, is the APN option the only thing missing? Just for reference, I have data roaming, preferred network type, APNs and network operators. If you have any of these options I'd highly recommend playing around with them to see if this allows APN settings to appear.
If it's just APN settings missing, I'd assume it's some kind of radio/sim detection error. If that isn't the only issue then something must be corrupt and I'd recommend starting from scratch.
