[Fix:] Broken LTE/Mobile Data/GPS - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello XDA,
As many of you have been flashing custom ROMs; some of you have had an issue regarding broken mobile data/LTE/GPS has arisen. I too had this same issue when I was flashing ROMs and decided to post my fix. This is a guide that MAY fix your problem. NO GUARANTEES
For this to work properly you MUST be on a STOCK TW ROM. I used S3R.x's ROM but you can use whatever works for you. After you have gone back to a Stock TW ROM follow the steps outlined below:
1. Enter the Samsung service mode by typing this code into the dial pad *#197328640#
2. Then go to Mainmenu>UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD>NV REBUILD> (Important: don't exit the menu yet!)
3. Wait 30+ sec
4. Long press power button and select "Restart / Reboot"
5. Now check your GPS from any software that may use GPS like "Maps" or "GPS Status"
6. Flash your favorite ROM and go about your merry way!
Credit: S3R.x ROM Development Thread
Again this is a fix that worked for me and may not work for everyone. Also if any of this info is wrong or needs corrections, I am always open to suggestions! :highfive:

I get a connection problem or invalid MMI code error.
I can still make phone calls and sends and receive texts though.

Worked wonders on stock rom after 4.4.2 update. had lost all gps and glonass, now the reset has brought my phone back from almost being thrown out of a 3 story high window to the ground. I also reset gps from the GPS Status app as well and downloaded the Xtra data and a-gps data. locks in seconds now. Thanks so much for the assistance.

[Q] Issue with ##GPSCLRX# for GPS on CM7

Hey guys, I need a bit of help. I have been using CM7 since build 0, and have been having hte GPS lock issue as everyone else has. I finally got around to going back to a sense ROM to clear the gps using ##GPSCLRX#. When I put that in it asked for the password (MSL code) and I accidentally hit ok, finger slipped. It said password incorrect and I'm not sure if it cleared the GPS or not. I tried to do it again, but when I type in ##GPSCLRX# it just disappears and the password window doesn't come up anymore.
I tried going back to CM7 and then back to a sense ROM, and I can't get that window to pop up again. My GPS still isn't locked consistently, just a quick lock every now and again, so I don't think the clear worked. I don't know how to clear it now.
I tried doing it on Myn's 2.2 and the stock ROM.
Today I did a full wipe and installed a fresh Myn's, and when I type in ##GPSCLRX# it still just disappears from the box, and it never prompts me for a password.
I would really love to get the GPS up and running, because other than that I love cm7. Appreciate the help. If someone can get my GPS up and running well I wouldn't mind donating a few dollars to a beer fund or whatnot.
CM7 RC1 is supposed to have the GPS issues cleared up.
Did you try a factory reset?
RC1 still does it.
I did a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik) when i installed Myn to do the clear, it still wasn't working.
Data wipe via clockwork is the same as factory reset, right?
Maybe this won't help, but you can try unrooting.
Any other suggestions?
Clear Data/Cache on the Dialer in Menu | Settings | Applications? Not sure what else this might muck with.

flash back to frest rom.
copy the attached epst.apk using root explorer to /system/app
when it asks to overwrite accept then install it.
your ## codes should work again.
you can also install 'gps status and tools' and clear the data there
After I went s-on and ran the latest ruu, I had to reapply the GPS fix after I rooted and loaded cm7. I couldn't get the GPS fix to work in Caulkins 1.8. It would reboot and hang at the white evolution screen. I used a rooted copy of the latest stock Tom and everything worked great.

This worked, however I still can't get the GPS to lock. :\
It seems like now I can't even get the GPS activate. If I turn GPS on the icon never comes on in the notification bar. It seems like its only trying to get a lock using the nearest tower or satellite or something.
EVO GPS not locking in GB 2.3
I did a little more research and it turns out that this is a common problem for anyone moving from 2.2 to 2.3 on evo. I found the fix by doing a GPSCLRX from my rooted stock sense rom.
0) Download the 2.3ROM and optional google apps to your sdcard; place it somewhere you can find them when in recovery
1) Download 'msl reader' from android market, run it and record your msl or call Sprint and beg for your msl number and record it for later.
2) ***MOST IMPORTANT PART*** you have to do this from a stock sense ROM. If you made a backup prior to your initial install of a custom ROM just restore it if not get stock ROM from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs
3) Once your stock ROM is up verify your GPS works and locks (GPS toolbox or Maps etc..)
4) With your GPS on; Open dialer and press ##GPSCLRX# or ##4772579#
3) When prompted for the password input your msl code from step 1
4) Phone will reboot in 20 seconds
5) Reboot into recover (power button + down volume)
6) Wipe everything and FLASH 2.3ROM + latest gapps
GPS works

I'm having GPS issues as well. I tried a similar instructions yesterday except I didn't test my GPS when I restored my stock ROM and turn on GPS during GPSCLRX. If i back up my CM7 rc3 now before I try this again can i just use the restore feature again after unlocking GPS or do I have to wipe and manual flash?
** EDIT ** I'm new to this so I want to add that I'm using the SavagedZen Kernel. Do kernels affect GPS? I haven't read that it does but just wanted to add it to help troubleshooting. I restored to stock ROM and confirmed GPS is working. Hope this works...
Works like a charm! I struggled for hours trying to get it to work and then ran across this thread. Thanks a bunch!
Can anyone help?
I'm trying to follow the ##GPSCLRX# fix documented here. I flashed to a Fresh ROM to get Sense, and got my MSL code.
However when I dial ##4772579# the dialer just locks up (looks like a previous poster had the same issue).
I got around it by saving the number as a contact and dialing the contact.
The phone rings twice then says:
"The number or code you have dialed is incorrect. Please check the number or code and try again. Message 7, Switch 351."
I tried dialing the same number from a free alternate dial app, same response.
Any ideas? No GPS really sucks
(And yes, I have double- and triple-checked that I'm dialing the right number. And yes, Sprint is my carrier.)
Oh, and using the GPS Tools app: Tools -> "Manage A-GPS state" -> "Reset" didn't change anything.

crazedfred, I actually had the same problem today. I think it might have something to do with Fresh and not the method to fix it. I originally tried using fresh and encountered the same problem you're having.
Instead, I used Sprint Lovers as my Sense-ROM and followed the same instructions and everything worked out ok. If done correctly, you shouldn't have to dial ##4772579#. Once you input the last pound sign you should be prompted to enter the number from MSL Reader.
Just a note: When I did this today I started to have some data connection issues but I'm not entirely sure if they are related. I'll update if I can figure it out.
I've had these issues any time I moved from sense to aosp...I just flash to stock rooted, run ##gpsclrx#, enter msl and actually use the GPS after reboot...

[Q] Field Trial mode (##debug#) with custom ROMs

Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the Field Trial mode to work properly with any custom ROM on the DInc. This is the screen accessed by using ##debug# in the phone.
I've tried several ROMs and haven't found any that have this program work properly yet. It usually does one of 3 things:
1. Ignores the request (similar to if you hit ##anything#). I assume this means the program was removed from that ROM.
2. Field Trial starts with a "Please wait while initiating..." banner that never leaves.
3. Field Trial starts and gets to the menu where you select 1X or EVDO to see the data, but upon selecting either one the application force-closes.
I regularly use this app to test signal strength and get cell tower information for test purposes as we do design and install work for VZW. Not sure if anyone has looked into this at all, or has an idea of where to look for the fix.
Thanks, Jeff

Any mostly stock based rom should have this working. I believe that is all part of the EPST.apk located at /system/app. Check to see that you have that file. Are you able to enter any ##???# command sucessfully? ##778# ; ##3282# ; ##3424# ; ##7764726#. I know for a fact they work on wildstangs ota rom and jermaines stock + rom. Also i know some roms use different commands such as *#*#debug#*#*

[Q] Flashing to Fix Gps Non-connectivity

Yo just bought a "new" s3 and the gps doesn't work. I say "new" because i looked at the flash counter before i rooted the phone and it said 1.
Anyways, I read through some of these threads and tried the screw tightening, that didn;t work.
I factory reset the phone, that didn;t work.
Tried topntp, that didn;t do anything..
tried other gps fix apps and nothing.....
I am a little afraid of opening up the phone to play around with gps antenna...
Has anybody found any luck with flashing a stock rom to fix this problem.
Any other suggestions please fill me in. I would really like to have a working gps.
I am running a Samsung S3
i747m
Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - vldmf1
Let me know if you need any more information about the software/firmware

1. Easiest and most reliable way. Try this first!
Enter the Samsung service mode by typing this code into the dial pad *#197328640#
Then go to Mainmenu>UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD>NV REBUILD> (Important: don't exit the menu yet!)
Wait 30+ sec
Long press power button and select "Restart / Reboot"
Now check your GPS from any software that may use GPS like "Maps" or "GPS Status"
Holy ****! You are a genius! That fixed the problem legit!
Whats the logic behind this?

[Q] GPS Fix in TW ROM (Phoenix 15.7)

Sorry for posting this here, but I lost my account and I can´t post this on the specific thread (Phoenix ROM)
After flashing a custom ROM, my gps is no longer locking, and I tried pretty much everything.
Then I wanted to try this:

Thought I post this method on a different way to get GPS back from flashing from different ROMs. When I lost it, a fresh Odin install did not fix GPS. Basically nothing worked; clear maps data, Google. Servicesframework, tightening all my screws, gps fix it apps, etc.. Tried them all.
Then I came across a post that was in a att s3 thread started by "egyptshun"
So shout outs to him.
[QUOTE/]if you dont see your gps icon on status bar. there is problem on your gps chip.
becouse that was happend to me my I747. im more confused about it.
i try more things like rom change,, firmware upgrade,, orginal samsung updates,, etc,, no more fix
after i go to the samsung service mode *#197328640#
then go to mainmenu>UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD>NV REBUILD>finish and dont exit menu
wait 30 sec
long press power button and select restart..
thats all
now check your GPS from gps software...
if this is fix your problem dont forget to thanks....

But when I press send after the code I get the error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code". I searched for this and everybody says that this problem appears when you are not using a Touchwiz Dialer, but I am (Phoenix ROM is TW based)
Do you guys have any suggestions on what to do?
