[Q] Annoying Prompts from HTC Backup - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I have Backup & reset set to back up to my Google account rather than my HTC account, so that if I ever get a phone that is not from HTC, I can restore settings more easily. The trouble is that whenever I have this option selected, I get a prompt asking if I want to back up with my HTC account every time I install or update an app even though I check "Don't ask me again" and hit NO every single time. Why is it so hell bent on bothering me about it? Is this a bug? Can it be fixed?

I don't exactly understand what you are referring to, could you explain this in a little more detail?

if you go to the google bottom of the page and select in yellow drop box shows up and says sign in as (email address) and u won't have 2 enter ur password. I tried to upload a screen shot says it can't upload

And you DON'T want this to happen?
You could probably do that by forcing the browser to show Desktop Site, but it might not have that option because you are on mobile. My bet is that it's something on Google's end, and you wouldn't be able to force any auto completion of your password.

If you lost your phone, they already have your account from the accounts & sync screen. And all of the current apps on the phone you're signed in to (sooo disabling this feature ITT won't fix your problem). Not to mention that they have everything else on the phone you should be worried about. When you lose your phone, you can instantly log into the computer and change your password etc.., but you can't get back the phone or data.
Put a passcode on your phone. Problem solved.

[Q] How to remove AT&T Address Book Pop-up

I swear I saw a post about this somewhere before I got my phone, but now I can't find it... How the hell do you get the "AT&T Address Book - Checking Subscriber Information" pop-up to stop coming up every time you open up the Contacts app?
I tried clearing cache in Contacts, didn't work. I have frozen ALL AT&T bloatware, still coming up. I'm not sure which app is causing this stupid pop-up. Help would be appreciated.
Settings -> Application Manager -> "All" tab -> "AT&T Messages"
Click Stop if its running then Disable.
See if that works.

Thanks, already tried that, for some reason it kept popping up. I ended up rooting, and renaming the app with a .bak extension, and rebooting. Seems to have gone away now. Thanks for pointing me to the right app though.
here's the old thread (it was mine)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724071
It ended up stopping popping up for me without really needing to do anything. Not sure what if anything changed but I never rooted or did any of the steps mentioned in the thread.
What worked for me is just let it do it's thing, don't hit cancel. A pop up will come up asking you if you want it to check or sync with AT&T address book next time, paraphrasing here, click no. Done. Now when I got into my contacts it doesn't come up anymore.

I did the same thing and it never came back up for me. This was before I was rooted. Even after I don't get it anymore
No clue. I let it do its thing probably 10 times and it never went away. Now that I rooted and removed anything related to AT&T, it doesn't come up anymore. I have no idea why my phone was being so stubborn with it.
Recently install SKY ICS, and there are no apps with AT&T or YP, but the checking still comes up... any clues?
I froze everything att with titanium and hasn't happened to me..

Forgot Password For Cell

Hello
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S2 [NOT updated to ICS, still running on gingerbread]
last night I put a password or pin on the phone under the security section, but now I cannot remember it. I asked T-mobile if they could reset it, however, the only thing they offered to do was guide me through a factory reset, which I do not want to do.
Is there any way to retrieve the password/pin?
thanks
PS - Pls don't tell me to reset the phone, as i already have been given that option
Reset the phone. Jk if u type it in wrong 5 times in a row a new option will appear that says forgot password. Then just sign in ur Google account and thats it

thank for the reply!
unfortunately, I did that so many times but the only message it is giving is "You have incorrectly entered your PIN 5(10, etc) times. Please try again in 30 seconds."
the option to get it via email seems to have disappeared!

Flash ics through odin...You won't lose any media. You will lose everything else though.
Or factory reset...those are your only options at this point. Unless you see a button on your local screen that says forgot password then you can enter your gmail. But other then that, not much anybody can do as far as i know

What are you afraid to lose?
If you can figure out which file is the security file and all that... I guess you can always flash/push a "stock" one to it, which should remove the password. This is only theoretical. I don't know which file it is either.

I'd say think harder lol. How do you forget a password you made, within a day?

Usually you don't... its called being shady and might not be his phone or possibly a found or stolen device.
Most of us on here have our stuff backed up and a factory reset isn't a big deal. Now some of us don't have our apps backed up, but have our contacts and such backed up thru Google. Every time I see these threads they generally get shut down by a mod..

LOL Shady is what I was thinking right after I read it..
I got locked out of my phone because my son was playing with it. It's asking for google account. I put in the google account and password but still doesn't take it. Can I bypass the google and pin code without losing data?

SMS Backup

Hi everyone,
So today I decided to make a factory reset because of the battery drain since the January Update.
I take care to made a googledrive backup (sms, call, etc...) before the factory reset.
After the configuration of the phone, I'm not enable to use the backup I made on google drive. I can't do anything (just delete it).
Somebody have a solution?
I had the same issue with my last but I think by doing another reset I was able to get it to restore from my Google backup.

^^ and/or be sure to sign in to your Google account right at the beginning when you're first setting up the phone...
*I'm not 100% certain this will "make" it work, but I believe it will give it the best shot...

Yeah, but what I had in mind is that you have the option to "skip" all the Google sign in stuff during the initial initialization of the device, which might be a detriment to what the OP is trying to secure...

Mmmm...that was a good idea, but my advice was more along the lines of resetting the device again, and to be sure to input your Google account information right at the "get-go" when it first asks when first setting up the device...not merely removing the account and re-signing the account in...
it seems that there are restorative protocols that are only "in play" when first setting up the device; i.e. you can't transfer data from one's old device using the included data cable at any other point than when first setting up the device/Pixel 2 XL...
Update.
I did a second Factory reset and by passing by the step of "transfert from an old phone" I re-enter my Google account and since this moment it give me the choice to choose each update I would like to install (from the Drive)
Now I have all my sms etc...

*hitting that "Thanks" button would be nice and a welcome compensation...

Question Dodging "Unauthorized Reset"

Hey everyone!
I've come into a somewhat complicated situation. Somebody close to me gave their password away to their email account. Very bad idea. Lost access to his phone and went out to buy a new one. Unfortunately this man logs into the same compromised email on the new phone. In between logging in on the second phone and now, the person he gave the info to has changed the passwords on his accounts and he can no longer get into his device.
What I want to know is if I flash a stock rom back onto the phone, does this bypass the "unauthorized reset" that requires a sign in on the old account? I was fairly sure it would be fine until I opened ODIN and it told me that not having the old password could cause problems. As of right now I can't find a way onto this phone. It hasn't even had the plastic peeled off yet and I can't find a way to get into the device.
A bit of a dire situation, Any help would be greatly appreciated.
