Hey this just happened overnight, it just turned off and when i woke up it was on the loading screen where it says "Samsung Galaxy Note II". Its been on this screen ever since and i tried taking out the battery, sim card everything. Im with rogers and i called them and they said it was pooched but i thought id ask you guys if you could help at all. It would cost a chunk of change to send it in for repairs or just upgrade my phone. Thnaks!
In order to enter recovery mode, you will first have to turn off your device. Once it’s turned off, press volume up + power button + home button simultaneously and keep them pressed until you see the recovery mode.

If you haven't already, try booting in recovery mode, you might need to let go of the buttons after a second or two for the boot to continue. (It's been a while since I've had to do it this way, and I can't turn my phone off to try at the moment.) If that works, try a factory reset, i.e. clear user data.
If the above doesn't work, the hardware could be at fault. Am I right to assume you haven't modified the phone in any way?
Depending on what Rogers quotes you for a repair, you could get another Note 2 off classifieds (be careful with provenance as you wouldn't want a blacklisted device) or get a new one from Koodo (a Telus subsidiary) who sells them for 300$, unlock it (free from here, cheap from third party vendors, expensive from the carriers) and be on your way. (If you want your Rogers apps back, there's a code on here to change your Carrier Specific Content code from KDO to RWC, this will clear your data so do it early on.)
One last thing: the Rogers/Bell/Telus Galaxy Note II is the SGH-I317M, which shares the AT&T Note II forum, not this one.
Good luck,
Darkshado

I know. My jokes are terrible. :good:
But my situation is somewhat of a severe one. Well, Severe for me. And theres two problems. The second one has emerged while typing this.
1) Ever since i got the phone (HTC Desire Z) I have been stuck with 2g cellular data. Before this phone i was getting 3g signal with a 3g and the up-down arrows. Now im lucky to get an e and the up-down arrows.
2) This is my main problem. When i try to turn my HTC's wifi on, it says 'Turning on' as it should, but a few seconds later it says 'Error' and the options following are greyed out. Im not sure why this has happened but its become a right pain in the backside because i cant do anything on 2g. Its like shaving the razor with your beard. Its backwards. I have tried factory resets and similar things but to no avail.
My phone is not rooted as i dont know how. I wouldnt be able to do it. Its the 'one-click' methods for me aha.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Terry.
Its related to your radio(baseband).
I guess you bought your phone overseas...
Was your phone bought from local dealer or online?
Because sometimes radio(basenband) from someother country may not work for you properly.
If that is the case then you'll have to s-off your device and flash baseband/radio for your country or wwe.
(To check whether you are s-off or not, switch off your phone, remove your battery, again place back your battery. Then press volume down + power button together.
You'll be in fastboot. Check if anything shows s-on or s-off.)
Or else if you bought it from a local dealer, then you can contact them.
Thanks...
I'm fairly sure if it isn't the T-Mobile G2 branded Desire Z model and you're in the US that you won't get 3G data (If you're on T-Mobile that is), I could be wrong about that though. If you're on AT&T such as myself then you for sure won't get 3G with either model unless you specifically bought the Bell (or Rogers, can't recall) Canadian DZ.
Okay, so I found a found at a gas station a couple weeks ago and I wanna get straight talk on it. The package I got, however, didn't have a SIM card that would work with the phone... The ATT ones were too small for the sim slot and it's an ATT locked phone, so the t mobile ones that came with it won't work...
Now, on with the part where I try to unlock the phone. I was originally going to root it but I don't have any experience and heard that it could kill the phone and I just need it unlocked right now. I've looked all around the net and here's what I found.
*#0011# - can't use menu back
*#197328640# - Takes me to the debug menu but the phone control option (in some walkthroughs it's 6, in others it's 8) simply isn't there.
Any number I've entered to get me into the system control menu won't let me go back from the menu it enters me in. I'm not paying 30$ to unlock it via ebay or one of these unlock code sites considering there's got to be a way to unlock it using the system controls. Can anyone help me? I've come close a couple of times on random forums, I see people asking the question however the conversation then gets side tract and moves on to something else.
So, I tried calling att and getting them to give me an unlock code and they said because I don't have a number. I've officially reached a dead end on unlocking the phone. I'm thinking instead I'll root the phone so I can use it (I think that works). But I know that it can be dangerous and come with side effects, so what I'm wondering is if anyone can give me any information on unlocking or rooting.
I'm not sure if I included what I'm trying to do in my original post.
I found a Samsung Galaxy S4 a while ago, I kept it around for a bit and no one came to claim it after two weeks so I took it home and used it on my wireless net and downloaded some games and movies for my daughter. Now, ATT is trying to screw me over on my iphone so I'm cancelling that contract and trying to get straight talk on this this phone. I bought the pack, put in the SIM card that fit and the phone read, and it came up that I need to unlock it to use this one because it was a t-mobile sim card (The att ones in the pack didn't fit).
All I want to do is use this phone with straight talk. The super small SIM cards won't fit in it and the larger Tmobile sim cards are Tmobile on an ATT galaxy and won't work.
Please help.
Try this method, worked for me to unlock. I used method 2. Some are reporting that this doesn't work for them. You will lose sound and WiFi on MDL modem but will fix when you flash back. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597973
I purchased a used Note 7 and it is locked to Bell Canada. I tried several unlocking services online to get an unlock code but all of them have been unsuccessful, they can't find an unlock code. Is there any other way to SIM unlock the 930W8 Note 7? Or is there a way to switch SIM lock from one carrier to another?
I haven't been able to use the phone because of this
Question: when did you purchase and why?

How is that going to help him? You just want to be able to upset him if he says he purchased it post-recall?
Anyways, to the OP: It may be a long shot, but try to factory reset it without a SIM card installed. Then Factory reset it again after that WITH your non-Bell SIM card installed. I know what everyone is thinking: "wtf?" BUT...
I am suggesting this because when I got my "replacement" Note 7 after the first recall, I kept the SIM in the first phone while I set up the second phone. I used Smart Switch and installed all the apps again. One thing I noticed is that it didn't have my carrier's bloatware on it at all. It was like a phone purchased directly from Samsung to be carrier-free. After that, I removed the SIM from the first phone and installed it in the second phone. As soon as the second phone registered the SIM, the phone shut itself off, and factory-reset itself! Once it came back up, the phone had been wiped, and suddenly had my carrier's apps on it.
Because it is a recalled device and has been banned and probably will be disabled entirely quite soon. Needs to find a substitute phone.
But thanks and good luck on the advice!

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it did not work. I believe the phone locks to the first carrier upon SIM insertion. It is normal for the phone to factory reset when you insert the SIM as it needs to load carrier apps / settings. If you can think of anything else to try, let me know. I'm trying to be hopeful...
My phone just froze last night and won't turn back on. I've tried charging it overnight (even though it was almost full), tried holding down power, volume down + power, all three buttons, connecting it to a PC and holding power and volume down + power and got nothing. The screen is black, no vibrations, no led.
The phone was bought from Verizon and was rooted with unlocked bootloader.
What are my options? Verizon can probably replace my phone but what happens when they get mine, figure out some way to turn it on and find out it was rooted?
Google can also replace my phone but it'll take a bit longer. Would they care that it was unlocked/rooted when they get it?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Neither will care. Warranty it. I would use Google, there is a small chance you will get an unlockable phone that way.
Call Verizon. It's a Verizon phone anyway.
Me Too!
I have an unlocked 128GB XL Google Refurb unit from a prior warranty replacement. It was on the latest developer preview, stock and on Verizon Prepaid. I was listening to music at around 40% battery and the sound just shut off. I went to check it and the entire phone had died, couldn't turn it back on. I tried everything.
In the process of trying to get them to give me a brand new device with a new warranty or I'm asking for a refund. No reason to go through 3 devices when the product costs almost a grand out of pocket.

Thanks! I called Google and they will send me another phone upon receiving mine. Hopefully it'll be a Google variant with an unlockable bootloader.

Why not just buy a Google one?
Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Go to ubreakifix.com they are a third party repair center certify by google. They have all the part for the pixel available. Im 100% sure they can fix ur phone at a very low cost if u want to keep same rootable device.
I was there 2 days ago and in 2 hours they transformed my phone from black to very blue version (white face/screen. blue back, blue finger print, blue sim). All for $230 part amd labor, new oem parts. My screen was crack thats why i decided to do this
Needed a phone to fill the app-gap coming from Windows(don't judge) until contract expires, and bought a H791 5X on ebay last October. (more on that). Works very well for about 8 month, then it started bootlooping. Searched XDA and found thread by xcnathan32, managed to revive it. Yesterday it was updating apps(not OTA security patch), dropped dark, and won't turn on at all. Held power+vol down until fingers turned blue, and maybe 1 in 20 chance it will light up, warns that bootloader is unlocked, then stop responding and drop dark again. Twice I got it to get to recovery screen, but it froze on one occasion, and on the other occasion shows a weird orange line towards bottom of screen, and I wasn't able to flash anything before it froze again.
As I'm fairly certain this is a hardware issue, I tried chatting LG support. Gave them IMEI, and they say this is a international phone, so LG USA won't support it. chatted with Google, really nice service, but when I gave them IMEI they couldn't bring up any warranty option since they don't have my IMEI in inventory...suggested calling LG support. Just called them, and they checked IMEI and said the same thing from chat(they even greeted me by name without me saying a word), but they did tell me my IMEI belongs in JAMAICA. YeahMan. Or...NoMan?
So I'm running out of options - what should I try next? give up? Go the Chinese route for repair?(and 4GB upgrade?) new ones are on ebay for ~230 so repair in US doesn't make much $ sense...
TL;DR: got international 5x, bootlooped, no repair from LG/Google, what do?
