[Q] Nexus 7 2013 battery life is really bad... - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I have recently upgraded from the Nook HD to the Nexus 7 2013.
Everything is fine and good except for when I try to use it for a day. The battery life generally lasts for 6 hours, I have Android 4.4.3 KitKat, with root and CWM.
Do any of you have this problem?
I really dont want to go back to the Nook HD, its too SLOW.

Did you let your n7 get hot? Usually leaving a liion battery in the car on a summer day for even a short period of time will ruin it and reduce its life by about 40%

Depending on what you're doing, 6 hours on the stock kernel is about average.

Actually on experimental x I had 10 hours of battery... Even when over clocked to 1.7 GHz!

Is this normal battery life for the Galaxy Nexus?

Hey everyone,
I'm barely getting any juice out of the Galaxy Nexus and I was wondering if this is normal. I'm on Android Revolution HD 2.1.2 on the Jame Bond kernel oc'd to 1.4GHz and heavily undervolted. I mean I know its overclocked but that little battery?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Overclocking runs the battery down faster. That's just life.

That's worse than a non rooted gnex lol

Why would you want to oc anyway? There's nothing bogging the GN down.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
As you are on a custom rom it could be down to a few factors.
1. overclocking is generating more heat and your battery is dying faster
2. bugs or issues with battery life on the rom you flashed
3. kernel is causing the cpu never to go into sleep mode
4. badly written application causing the phone to stay awake much more than it should.
Two hours screen on time isn't the worst I have ever seen..

I would think that since Google plus and Facebook account for 14% of that part of your problem is there. And your kernel. Undervolting probably just offsets the GPU @ 384 mhz. And overclocking seems unnecessary if that is your typical usage.
I was getting 4+, almost 5 hours display time on cellular data earlier this week in 8-9 hour rundown and my kernel is completely stock. If I had uv'ing I probably could've cleared 5 hours display.

That battery life is nothing to sneeze at. It's pretty good considering the OC settings and running apps imo... As long as you have a charger handy I wouldn't worry about the battery that much. You have the phone equivalent of a Porsche - no need to drive it at 25 mph to save on gas mileage

Official Galaxy Nexus in the Philippines

This thread was opened as a venue where Filipinos can compare and discuss their experiences with the GNex. If you are Pinoy, then this is the place to be!
Came from the SGS2 and we had our own thread there where everybody was helping each other no matter where they were. Hopefully that can be replicated as well for the GNex. Post away!

Have you rooted it? What about your screen? Are you experiencing some yellow tint color?

Hello there.. bought mine first week of january from a grey market here in the philippines. Mine's not unlocked and rooted yet. Still waiting for my laptop to arrive to do it. Saw the instructions and i think its pretty hard to brick and easy to unlock and flash roms using fastboot. Came from a galaxy S2.

Hi guys! Bought mine on January through grey market. Also bought the extended battery shortly after. AOKP milestone 3, Franco kernel #13.1. Not gonna flash anything new soon, since I'm quite contented with it now. Probably when AOKP M4 is released.
Previous phone was a Galaxy S2. Only lasted for 3 months before selling it to get the GNex. Hehehe...

It was officially released by SMART at the end of January. So, yeah, it's been out for about a month. I bought mine at Thailand when I was there first week of January. I'm running CM9 nightlies with FuguMod kernel.
Just got my GNex about an hour ago from the grey market. Still have my GSII but will be selling it soon. I'll keep it stock for a few days. After that, it's rooting time and flashing ROMS. Can't wait to try out CM9. Any suggestions for a good ROM?
What type of batt life you get with the roms and kernels you're using? With standard batt of course. I barely get to 4 hours with data on all the time. I think the radio on my phone sucks. Rarely get a green signal as compared to the S2.

I can go a full day with data always on and still have around 40% battery life at the end of the day. That includes around 2-2.5 hours screen time and 2 hours or so of listening to music/audiobooks.
You are in a place where signal is poor. So the phone sends more juice to your radio in trying to maintain a decent connection. If you're only using data to send messages or text emails or anything that doesn't require high speed, try setting network to 2g only if you don't really need the speed. See if that helps.
EDIT: However, if all those 4 hours are spent surfing the internet with screen on, then you get about the same battery life as everyone else.
Will try Gummy hopefully by tonight! Guess its time to get the extended batt for this one too. Lol! Globes 3g signal isnt as strong as smart.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Wow! Glad to see many pinoys here. Also got the extended batt. I have 2 cases, ringke slim, and a SGP Ultra Capsule.
I really am a power user. I charge twice a day. 6 hours of wifi tethering. Normal usage i can get to 12-16 hours with the extended batt (2.5 hours screen time). Batt life sucks but its better than my galaxy s2 considering the screen size.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Wait ,guys all of you has GSM version? Considering I'm using LTE (verizon)and doesn't have the extended batt. I still have descent batt. life with my gnex.(gummy)
gamit ang gnex ( xda premium)
I think 4 hours is normal if that's only screen time with data on. I can easily pass 4.5 hours of screen time with WiFi and sync on, standard battery. (At least, that's what I got when I was addicted to "Where's My Water" and "Cut the Rope." Hehehe...)
For my normal usage though (lots of calls and texts, sync on, and a little bit of web browsing and Foursquare), I got 2h 18m screen plus 4h 2m voice calls in a span of 2d 7h before ending up with 4% remaining. The extended battery adds either ~1 hour (screen) or ~2 hours (voice) more to that.
As for the signal... My GNex is significantly better than the S2 for 2G, since the S2 drops the signal from time to time. As for 3G, not so much. Still difficult to get a signal from where I'm sitting, except when I stick the phone out the window, but who does that?

Average life of 3800 siedio battery

Hey guys I'm getting four hour screen time on my audio super battery. On three g and no GPS wfi or BT . Is that the average? Was kinda of expecting more. I did do as their instructions said so wanted to know. Thanks

I have the hyperion 3800 extended battery, I get 4 hours on screen and still have 10-15% left(Around 15 hour day). I keep LTE and GPS on and have brightness set to auto. Using PA + Franco milestone 5. That is my average, but I heard the seidio is better so I dunno.
I get two and a half on 2100mah

Thanks for the reply. As a heavy business user making and receiving 40+ calls a day (a lot of them 20 minutes plus) is why I ask. I have the HTC ONE XL on AT&T now and I burn through the battery by mid afternoon and with no removable battery it's very inconvenient to say the least. I've been thinking about buying the note 2 because of it's battery size and thinking it could be more productive because of it's screen size and software for documents etc...
Thanks again

Google Now on?
All Location services on?
Edge? 3G? LTE? Wifi?
Screen brightness?
Google now and the location services in google maps are HUGE battery users, but I never see if people use them or not. All these 7h, 1day battery life people are NEVER on LTE as seen in their screen shots, its ALWAYS Wifi (which uses less battery) or i don't even see a data indicator at all.
All these variables makes these battery claims baseless. Case in point: my roomate turns off data on her Galaxy Ace II, she gets 6 days battery life.

Absolutely.
I'm a power user
I have my phone in my hand all day.
I also use maps and navigation often it's rare for me to get over 4 hours of screen time.
I'm also on LTE.
I guess under the perfect conditions this phone could get 10 hours. I've never done it though.

I appreciate you guys chiming in. I have everything running full blast in the background as I don't want to have to manually turn stuff on and off as I use it. I'm just too busy to deal with it. After having a phone that I can't swap batteries in, the note 2 may be the ticket.

Battery life: AOSP vs Blur

What is everyone's best screen on time? Please note if it's on blur or aosp. Thanks!
Love my RAZR M
this thread is kinda pointless. no offense. Without a good kernel for AOSP, blur battery life will destroy aosp. If this was started, 2 maybe 3 months in the future, we might have different result.

Currently for ASOP I'd consider 3 and a half to 4 hours good. On blur maybe 5 to 5 and a half. I've gotten 6+ before but it isn't a common thing.

I work in a building with a terrible signal, so the battery life I get is definitely not as good as some of you guys, but I just can't seem to kill this phone. I'm also on gsm, which apparently eats battery quicker than cdma for some reason. I'm on deadrage 1.2.
I think we may actually get better screen on time than the maxx hd guys. I saw a thread like this and it looked like about 4 hours in a day was typical. Makes you kind of wonder, what DOES get better screen on time than this?

I actually sat down and played TD Bloons 5 on my phone this morning straight for 3 hours 15 minutes before I hit 14% battery from a full charge. I had a crappy/no signal the entire time with mobile data on (no wifi). Thought this was interesting. Since living in an apartment that's partially underground (constant poor signal), I've noticed a massive decrease in battery life. I think 3 hours of hardcore gaming under those conditions is pretty impressive!
about 3.5 hours doesn't really get affected by roms it seems
I actually ended up swapping for a note 2 and it blows the m out of the water. After 3 hours of use in the same conditions, I'll have 45% battery on the note
