Hello there, I was trying to update my Tab's firmware to 4.2.2 following the instructions listed on a website I can't link to because I'm a new member. I found it by googling "update sm-t210 to 2.4.4". It's on a website called techbeasts.
I was using CWM recovery 6.0.4.7. I installed the first file, listed at the bottom of the page, the "Kernel.zip file". It installed using CWM just fine, it's a small file only about 6MB. The second file I tried to install, the "T110 on T210/210R.zip" file failed. It gave me something about 5 out 4 expected args and didn't work.
After this my tablet would not boot, it would show the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (not the animation) and then go black.
Next I tried to reflash using the 4.1.2 firmware from SamMobile using ODIN. This failed on the modem.bin. After this I couldn't boot in in recovery mode or ODIN mode. All I get is the, "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue...". ODIN still recognizes my tablet.
So I'm stuck. I've spent all night googling to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
So I managed to use ODIN to get CWM reworking. But I've hit another brick wall. Now that I've got something to work with anyone have any ideas?

Install the latest CWM (6.0.4.8) and it you should be able to flash the rom correctly.
Thanks gr8note,
So I did what you suggested, I installed 6.0.4.9 and then lo and behold, the error went away! The ROM installed with no errors. One issue is the device no longer registers with adb, but fortunately the ROM was already on my device. The device is still discoverable with ODIN on my PC.
My new problem is now I can't get it to boot in to anything but recovery or ODIN. Even if I just use the power button it boots to recovery. I just got home from work and will be searching for a solution, but any more help would be appreciated!
Thanks again.

Flash the kernel again.
Sent from my SCH-I605
Hi gr8nole, thank you for getting back to me. I've seen your name all over these forums searching for a solution.
So I have reflashed the kernel I had originally downloaded, and also tried the blackhawk kernel I found on these forums for the sm-t210. It still will only boot to recovery. I have flashed several different recoveries to my tablet. I have tried two different ROMs - one from the website I mentioned above and the stock ROM from SamMobile - and it still will only boot to recovery or ODIN.
If you had a different kernel in mind a link would be greatly appreciated. Beyond that, any other advice you can give me?

j,
a while back i read a warning about sammobile images being screwy and to avoid them.
this was the image i used when i first got my tab http://d-h.st/users/Jamison904?fld_id=21912 the 1.13 gb img not the dump
hope this helps

Hey thanks for replying.
I ended up doing a huge facepalm when I figured out my problem. I was attempting to install the stock ROM like the other ROMs...through a recovery. You can imagine my frustration when I finally realized it was not a normal ZIP but instead had to be extracted and ODIN'D.
Duh.

Alright, so I checked through a few pages on the forums, and I didn't see anyone posting about this issue I am having..
I purchased my S3 a few days ago, and instantly rooted it. I used the Odin3 v3.07 method with "root66_SPR_L10VPBLJ7.7Z" ROM. That went well and fine. Then I tried flashing CWM recovery, and when I booted into recovery, it was still the stock. So I downloaded ROM Mangager and flashed the touch CWM recovery, after it finished, it asked if I wanted to boot into recovery. I agreed. Then the phone restarted, and upon starting, it showed the SAMSUNG logo, and "recovery booting" in the top left corner for about half a second. Then it just stayed on a black screen. I could do nothing after that. I then took the battery out for about 5 minutes, threw it back in, and the phone started. So I tried to manually boot into recovery, and the same issue. Took the battery out again, phone started properly, so I then tried to get into download mode. That worked fine, so I downloaded the CWM recovery on my laptop, and connected the phone through Odin, and flashed CWM onto my phone. Odin said it passed, but I still have the same issue when I try to boot into recovery.
Any ideas on something I'm doing wrong?
It is likely that your ROM is detecting the custom recovery and replacing it with the stock one. This was a change made to the stock ROM several versions ago. Before that you did not have to do anything extra to load the custom recovery.
The versions LG8 and later have code to detect an unsigned recovery and replace it with stock. You need to:
- Download TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5.zip and place it on your ineternal sdcard.
- Get into Download Mode and connect ODIN.
- Flash the custom recovery with ODIN but do not check the "Auto Reboot" box in Odin.
- Disconnect the phone from the PC once the recovery is flashed.
- Pull the battery to power down
- Boot directly into recovery (Hold Volume Up, Home and Power buttons until recovery appears. Do not allow the ROM to start).
- Once in the recovery you need to flash the Team Epic Root from Recovery.
- Reboot
All Done

Correct; and the reason for this is because the updated stock firmware as a script basically that re-flashes stock recovery upon boot if stock isn't detected. The team epic zip removes that. After doing that; I'd recommend flashing the twrp recovery.

So whats your issue? Why do you need the stock rom...? The drivers are the same and the stock kernel is for stock only, not aosp

Okay I did some research, and I found online that the Samsung phones need .tar.md5 not .img files for recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484304
I did not use these directions since I don't run linux, and I wasn't going to download VMWare. Anyways, the way I fixed it, I purchased and downloaded Mobile Odin from the Play store. I put the recovery.img on my external SDcard, then opened the app. Under "recovery" I selected recovery.img and then scrolled down to "Flash" It flashed the recovery.img with no problems, then booted me into recovery. I then flashed mrRobinson_Ashaman.v2.20_signed.zip so I could uninstall some bloatware.
That last part was mostly for me, until I find a ROM I like.

Hey guy,
I was using CleanROM for the longest time. I've actually been using it for so long I can't quite remember how I got the phone unlocked in the first place. I want to say I used a combination of the Note 2 Toolkit and CASUAL to get there. I've been trying to get back to stock and now I'm stuck at the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 boot screen. I can get into Download Mode but I can't access Recovery at all. I've been using Odin(Which is where I messed up at). Things I've tried so far:
All of these will say they pass, but when the phone reboots, it still gets stuck at the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 boot screen.
Tried flashing the VRALJ from stockroms.net
Tried flashing philz touch recovery
Tried flashing both stock firmwares from sammobile.com for the SCH-I605.
I'm currently at a loss as to what to do now.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.
UPDATE: Ok, now when I try with one of the stock firmwares Odin gets to where it says Nand Write Start!! and it fails. Fails when flashing the Philz Touch Recovery as well.
UPDATE 2: Tried a different version of Odin. This time using Odin v3.09 and tried the VRALJB stock rom, it got to flashing the recovery.img then went to sboot.bin and failed.
UPDATE 3: Ok, using Odin v3.09 flashed philz touch recovery with Nand Erase All selected and T Flash selected. It went through successfully and am now able to boot to recovery. Seems that I was just using the wrong version of Odin3...I think...I hope...lol
UPDATE 4: Ok, so that didn't work. I was able to get into the stock recovery. But was unable to boot into android itself. Figured it's because there was nothing on it, attempted to flash a stock rom, and it still failed at sboot.bin. Attempted to reflash philz touch recovery, still fails. I'll keep trying different things, but I'm running out of things to try until I hit that insane moment where I try everything again expecting different results.
UPDATE 5: Ok, so I'm blind...or somehow didn't come across this thread before. But it helped me to fix the issue...so yeah. Thread link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120726

Haha, right? Thank you and got that plugged into the title.
I went through the normal procedure of installing a new ROM, I wiped w/factory reset, got hit with a "status 7" error. I looked it up and it's apparently a problem with conflicting recovery manager files. That makes sense because I have CWM recovery and it asked me to install TWRP. I guess you can't have both?
I followed a tutorial explaining how to edit the userscript file to bypass the error and it seemed like it was going to install at first but I still got hit with it. Now my computer doesn't recognize my s3 (d2spr) so I have to put the files on an external microSD. I tried to restore from CWM but it wouldn't let me. I'm pretty new to this stuff so I'm not sure how to proceed from here.
Your best option is Odin back to stock and start over again.

Im having the same issue. Can someone please help. I tried flashing the stock sprint rom using ODIN but i'm also stuck in recovery boot loop. Would some one direct me where i can maybe find the correct .tar to flash with ODIN
this is the one i used: L710VPUCMK3_L710SPRCMK3_L710VPUCMK3_HOME
Thanks
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help, but I'm not too optimistic. I have a SGH-M919 (T-Mobile Galaxy S4) that had a tripped KNOX bootloader and I had been installing custom ROMs on it. I wanted to ODIN back to stock, but it has caused all kinds of problems.
I was using ODIN v3.09 to ODIN the NB4 complete .tar file from Sammobile under the "AP" section with only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked. It got what looked like about 95% complete and then showed FAILED. It gets to a point where it will say:
"Complete(Write) operation failed"
Upon rebooting, the phone says "Firmware upgrade ecountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
The phone will go into Download mode still but it will not go into Recovery mode.
After the above combination failed, I've tried using ODIN v.3.07 and v1.85, different official and unofficial firmwares (NB4, MK2, Fenny's NB4), tried various USB ports on my computer, and even tried another computer. Each time ODIN fails, and sometimes much earlier in the process.
I also tried installing using Kies after all of the above failed, but Kies will not recognize the phone at all.
Is it dead, or does anyone know of something else I can try? Upon my searching, most recommendations to "brick" problems seems to just be to ODIN like I did above =/.
Thank you for any help!

I was able to flash a recovery, which is good news. The one I had on hand was Philz, which I could go straight into. Now I have a problem with /data not being able to mount, and no ROM I install from recovery seems to boot, even a full nandroid backup... Any ideas from there?
UPDATE: I flashed TWRP 2.5.0.2 and was able to format /Data, reinstalled a ROM, and it booted!! Thanks so much!!

ive read forums and trying different things for 6+ hours and was having no luck.
i read that someone took it to a best buy where they have a samsung kiosk because they can reflash the firmware.
i took it there but they were unable to reflash it.
they had the same problems i was having.
i literally just tried odin again and it worked.
i think mayb them hooking it up to their computer did something to it which then allowed me to get it to work.
if that doesnt work you can also send it back to samsung to have it reflashed,
both are FREE of charge. ( most people dont know that.
best of luck to you.
Hey sorry, have been swamped with work. Did you ever get it working or still need help?
Using ODIN to flash a complete ROM would always fail, bit have you tried flashing just TWRP recovery? For me that worked, and from there I could reformat the /data folder, and flash a new ROM in recovery. Never was able to use Odin for a full ROM but that method was good enough.
Hello So i have come to this magical website that has helped me with my issues before to bring up one of my own that i can't seem to find a solution for.
So recently i have rooted my Galaxy S6 using ODIN and what not. And everything went perfect, soon after that i flashed TWRP recovery on my phone so i could get some ROM's. But when i tried booting into TWRP, it gave me a welcome screen telling me to select a language. As soon as i tried making a selection i saw that i wasn't able to Tap nor swipe anywhere or anything really. So i was like....ok let me just flash a different versoin. Booted up to recovery and still ran into the same problem. I can't use the tough interface and idk what to do. Came here for some help
Model : SM-G920P
Version of TWRP : twrp-3.0.2-1
========UPDATE========
So recently i was trying to download exposed and caught myself not knowing what to do at all. I booted into recovery yet again cause i flashed a different version. And same thing happened. I try navigating through TWRP interface and still can't get it to do anything. So i try going back my regular usage of my phone, and then hit problem #2....it kept booting into recovery. And every time i try to reset my phone it just automatically boots into recovery. IDK what to do :/ and would love for someone to help me out.
Reflash the stock rom via odin..u need to be in download mode for this download the rom search it here on sprint xda ... After succesful flash download app call flashify go to recovery flash twrp download the version u havent flashed before im sure u already know the one that didnt worked before ... flash yup it then it will take u too recovery wipe to enter if touch still not works reflash again via odin in download mode then flashify different version of TWRP
Grab the TAR file from here: https://dl.twrp.me/zerofltespr/
Flash via ODIN.
This might not really help the OP. But for anyone whom stumbled upon the same problems. Just do
adb recovery
And the phone should boot into OS normally after stuck on TWRP which the touchscreen is not working
