Hi all. I am looking to ditch my cable plan completely and use a jailbroken/unlocked apple tv or fire tv. Can anyone tell me which is better? Ive seen apple tv has a ton of media programs and you can find almost anything on it. On fire tv ive only seen that you can put xbmc on. Please correct me if im wrong. Thanks for the help.

I put this on the Kodi Genesis forum but have had no luck so thought I would see if anyone here has come across this.
Ok guys, have a fire TV running genesis 5 and kodi 14.1 with no problems at all. Decided yesterday I would buy a fire TV stick. Installed kodi 15.1 on to it and genesis 5. Went to a tv show I watch and came up no streams available. Went to the exact same tv show on my fire TV and instantly all links came up! They are both in the same room connected to the same router.
I decided I would try downgrading the fire stick to kodi 14.1 so I had the exact same setup as the fire TV box. Still no streams available! How can this be happening? It's doing my head in! Any help guys would be greatly appreciated. By the way I have a very strong wifi signal on my stick.
Thanks
Darren
I have a similar problem! Except it's with IceFilms. When clicking on a movie, all I see are three dots (one up folder). I'll keep an eye on this thread. I hope you get it working!
I just got my fourth fire stick yesterday and have the same exact problem. All the other sticks work great, I don't know what they have done. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck.

I think I know what the problem is, try changing the view to say a list or poster or go through the view types until the list appears properly.
I have tried changing the views with no luck. It has to be down to the stick. What I have noticed is the stick comes up with "no stream available" in Genesis but it still says working for another 15-20 seconds. I know there are streams available because they come up on my fire TV for this particular TV show. It seems to be timing out or something like that, like it is not finding the streams quick enough then just shows "no stream available". May something to do with speed or memory of the fire stick?

I uninstalled everything and hooked it to my other TV using the power cord that came with it. Every thing is great now, I put it on the other TV that had USB for power and it still works on that TV. So I'm not shure if you used the power cable that cane with it or not but use it to program it.

Do you mean delete kodi from the fire stick then use the power cable to the stick and then reinstall kodi & genesis?

I have done this myself, even factory reset the Fire TV Stick and it hasn't worked. So don't be disheartened if this doesn't work! You're not the only one.
I had this same problem and solved it here:

Hello, I'm struggling to find much info but I'm trying to figure out if this is the right forum for Amazon fire TV stick, I'm seeing lots of stuff for Amazon fire TV but is this the exact same as fire TV stick?
I'm basically wanting to have my fire TV stick setup with something like Nova launcher and install a TV app for watching TV and also a few other apps for TV shows ect.
Any info would be gratefully received and if I'm in the wrong place I apologise but if you could point me into the correct place that would be great.
Thanks
I have both and the Fire TV is better/faster. The Fire Stick is good if you plan to move it around to different TVs or take it with you while you travel.
They are basically the same thing though, just one has better specs. If this is for your main living area I would get the Fire TV not the stick.
So I don't own a firestick so maybe I am missing something here but shouldn't I be able to just install the firestick software on a flash drive and plug it into my tv and stream? I'm assuming the firestick is just a program accessing streams to Netflix and Hulu etc etc.. I own a Samsung smart TV (believe it's tizen) and have read up that kodi doesn't work on them basically. Just boggling my mind that this isn't simple. Is it a thing to install a os and kodi on a flash drive then hook it into the TV? I'm seriously dumbfounded over here.

Suggest you do some reading on it first. It's basically a
"Mini computer" with processor.

I don't know what to tell you, man. At this point, you might as well hook up a HTPC to your TV.

You can't be serious. How did you even figure out how to make your computer go to XDA? Clearly you don't understand technology.

Hahaha.
wow.....cut the dude some slack. he seems to think the Fire Stick is similar to a usb drive with software on it. Everyone isn't tech savvy, and even some who are may not be familiar with what a Fire Stick is.

What an ignorant comment. Fortunately I don't see Moderator under your name so you don't get to say who belongs here and who doesn't. I'm not interested in going back and forth with you so this is my last post on this topic.

As far as I know, you can't run another OS off of a USB stick plugged into Tizen. Even if you could, you'd need to output to HDMI or cast to the screen some how.
A FireTV Stick runs Fire OS and outputs through HDMI so your TV just runs it like any other set-top box.

Fundamentally you need an operating system , which in your question is the FireTV OS, and you need a background hardware set, PC or the like, FTV compatible, computer on a stick (FireTV for example) which the (FireTV) OS is written to run on. They both must be mated to each other to function correctly and output the results, video, computation, music, or what-ever. Gotta have both.
Now, you could install Kodi for Windows, for example, on a USB drive, via a PC, and plug that into a PC and Kodi will run, as the Windows OS and hardware are it's operating hierarchy. You may also be able to install FireTV OS onto a USB drive, via another hardware/software set which is compatible with FireTV, so that hardware could use the USB as a 'system drive', as it were. Not very practical, and too much of a work-a-round to get to the end point of having a FireTV system which works.
... easier to just buy a FTV.
Good question, never-the-less.
Hey there,
I am really stuck with the Amazon Fire Tablet. Since Amazon is giving them away for around 30 EUR I thought that might make an excellent remote for my TV. The idea is, that I stream everything via my Chromecast.
It works fine wit Plex and other Apps. Only Netflix seems not to support Chromecast when it runs on any Amazon device. I read somewhere here, that the netflix app checks the name of the device in the build.prop and if it figures out it is an Amazon device it will not offer Chromecast as an option.
My problem is, that I am on Fire OS 5.3.2.1, and as far as I know this version cannot be rooted.
Does anyone know a way how to change the name of the device in the build.prop without rooting the device?
Or is there perhaps another way to get Netflix and Chromecast running on the Fire Tablet?
Many thanks
Ilja

Hi lingley.
Did you find a solution for this? I´m having the same issues and its driving me crazy..
thank you.
Im sorry if I missed this or it has been posted before but is there a way to manage fire tv sticks that are in different locations? My Mom and other relatives all have fire tv sticks with kodi that I gave them throughout the year and they don't know how to update kodi or manage builds. Is there a way I can do it myself from home without giving them links to youtube videos or long phone calls?
