I have a boot animation I would like to use, and I am wondering how I apply it. When using ROM Toolbox, it gets half way through and freezes. I had to flash TWRP and manually restore the stock animation. How would you apply one in Sense? Would it require a custom kernel? Would you place it in /data/local?

After trying a few ROMs with DK28, there were a few boot animations I liked, one of them being Nebula's. Is it possible to pull that out of the ROM install file and flash? If so which files are needed?
Thanks.
first;boot animations can be dangerous; playing around with them. Make sure to nand backup and/or keep odin at the ready
there is a bootanimation.zip in the system/media folder.
You can swap those out from one rom to another before you flash the rom.
I am not sure what type of update script you'd need, though. To just flash the animation one the rom is already installed.
here is a outside link talking about a honeycomb boot animation and how to get that on your phone; has some good info too.

... have fun and safe flashing.
Im actually on Deck's, but when I was using CM7 I had the same problem, and Deck is a fork... so yea.
Anyways, on most roms I simply flash a zip and then boom, I have a boot animation. For whatever reason on Deck's\CM7 however, it doesn't change and it stays the custom one made for the rom. Is this something cyanogenmod purposely did, or am I noob? Thanks!
Not all boot animations are flashable, they normally say if they are.
Take the bootanimaiton.zip that you want and:
A- adb push it to /system/media
B- use root explorer and move it to /system/media
Actually, the best place to put it on CyanogenMod is /data/local/, that way it'll be there even after you upgrade your phone's software (ie, from 7.0.2.1 to 7.0.3.1).
I appreciate both of your replies, still having odd issues. The zip is flashable... i have flashed it on other roms, yet when i flash it on CM the boot animation doesn't actually change. If I move the file to /data/local or /system/media, it does in fact change my boot animation, but it's not full screen - and the animation is definitely full screen when I flash it on other roms. Any ideas?

I have attached the offending boot animation....
If someone could please point me in the right
direction on what im doing wrong...
And if someone else is having the same
problem, maybe this might show/help show
them the right way as well....
I have tried it in system/media as well as
system/customize/resource...and still a no
go...Is the internal file settings correct?
I can use other boot screens and it works
but this modded version doesn't work
what kind of rom? sense or asop. cause you missing the correct file stucture either way.
Im sorry Im using Sense and I am trying
to work it in a stock ROM that I have
been working on for a week
here try one of these. i put the correct files in both and zipped it and made it for either one(asop or sense)
these are for flashing in recovery, if you want to just add it to a rom unzip and take out the bootanimation.zip and you can replace it in the rom before flashing the rom or use root explorer
so would you know how to integrate it in
so there is no need on flashing? It has the
boot screen already "pre-loaded" when
you flash the ROM
but other then that...AWESOME THANKS!
in a sense rom you have to goto system\customize\resource and just replace the bootanimation.zip with the one you want to use. when zipping up the rom you zip the whole thing with 7zip(or whatever you use) using normal and you have to sign it using autosign(or whatever you use)
hope that helps you out, good luck with the rom
works BEAUTIFULLY!! You may use it if you like!
Is there a way to backup my boot anymation? When I installed a custom kernel it chanhed my animation I want the stock one that I had. So is there a way to back up the stock animation then flash the kernel then restore the boot animation and keep the kernel?

It depends really. Are you running a stock-based (i.e. TouchWiz, so not AOSP-based) rom? If so, do you mean the boot animation you would have were you unrooted stock? The stock touchwiz boot animation is of a particular-to-samsung (I think anyway) format, and in order to play it a particular binary is used which is called up via the kernel. If the kernel has been made to avoid pointing at said binary then it matters little as it won't know how or where to look for the stock boot animation (although you could try to rename the samsungani binary as bootanimation (back up bootanimation first obviously) in /system/bin... not sure if that would work though).
If you are running a stock-based rom but were NOT referring to the unrooted stock boot animation, then you just need to hunt down where you got that boot animation from originally - if it was from a modified stock rom the file (called bootanimation.zip most likely) would be in /system/media. I believe the same would apply for an AOSP-based rom (meaning they use /system/media/bootanimation.zip for boot animations), so you would just need to hunt down the original.
Not sure that helped at all...
Also, if/when you do find the anim you want, you might not even need to rename it. As long as you have the file, you can install it as the active bootanim through romtoolbox pro.
Edit: not at all attempting to discredit dwith. I've done both. Both work. I'm just lazy.
As fir backing uo, keeo a copy of the file on your sd or in the cloud somewhere. Even if there's a bit if redundancy in storage, it's preferable to loss, imho.
I tried to install a custom boot animation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJopFQqgjQw <-- This one, to be exact. (The dark one with no text)
Anyways, I installed it using ROM Toolbox, and rebooted. It got about 3 seconds into the animation, and froze. It stayed like that forever. So, I decided to shut down, and try again. Nothing. I even tried wiping the Cache partition. Still nothing. I have a backup of the original animation.
I have no idea how to delete the current animation, and go back to the old one. It won't even let me access my device. Is there any way to fix this using ADB or fastboot? (Or maybe a flashable animation ZIP) Thanks.

can you get into recovery if so have you got a backup or a rom on phone just flash that will fix
I can get into recovery just fine. The problem is, I don't have an old backup to work off of. I might just have to backup my data using ADB, and factory reset. I would not like to do this, so if you know where ROM Toolbox stores installed boot animations, that would be great.
