Well, it's not that hard, there are some apps out there which can remap keys, but as per your wish, it's not actually remapping totally, total remap is easy, but you want to change some of the function of a single key, which is kinda difficult and a lot of editing work
May be there are some apps which do open apps from volume key trigger, I don't know if it have home key trigger also
I don't remember the app name, you can search for it.
Hit thanks if I helped

Well, sorry for this late reply, but I actually don't know how to do that, I never tried that! And I have no idea about how to do that! I just guess it is possible,

Anyway to toggle Volume ON <-> Vibrate ?

Currently, the way I change my PPC profile is by pressing the side volume button, and then tapping on vibrate. That will cause the phone to be in silent mode. I believe many of us do the same?
The problem is, I find it a hassle to press on the button and then tap. It's just too many steps. Is there any app than when tapped on, toggles the volume ON/Vibrate?
Or anyone with vb.net experience can help me on creating such an app? thanks!
An app was recently posted on this board to do this. Can't remember the name. Try searching in development and hacking.

Yep, think that's the one.
I've written one in the new version of VJVolublis, but it's not released yet.

Change Keyboard Unlock

i was just wondering if there was anyway to change the key combo to unlock the keyboard, maybe a reg edit or some application.
I wish there were. I hate the combination they picked... I always miss that stupid "star" key. I think it could be possible by altering the keymap file, but then it would mess up the star key and move it somewhere else. heh
Hi,
I've been looking for an answer to this question as well, but so far no luck. I had a thread going in regards to this with a couple attempts at work-arounds if you'd like to have a look:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2099988
Here's to hoping!

In my personal case, I would like any key other than the current *Z key, as my *Z key barely works anymore making the unlock process extremely tedious
how old is the phone? Maybe it wold be best off to get a replacement from your provider. Just a thought.

I got mine in October of '07, but it wasn't through my provider (eBay). It worked fine and the malfunction of the *Z key is my fault (puddle ).
I would personally prefer the left softkey (like it is now), followed by a press of the second softkey... or even the spacebar
i was thinking the left softkey followed by the right softkey or maybe the left softkey in combination with the talk key or vice versa

But if there were keyholes everywhere, you'd still wish it.
Well don't say it's not gonna happen.... A developer could easily write a new app to do this. A keyhole in your roof is not impossible to do, it just takes money

They'd have to be just about the coolest developer to ever develop!
*hint hint* *nudge nudge*
yes. any developer who could code this what be greatly appreciated and will please a lot of people.
I got an idea.. let's ask Technology. I mean, if he was able to write his super bluray, megavision, imax, 3d, etc codecs from scratch, this should be a walk in the park for him!

Take a look to Automatic Keylock by maniac.
1. Disable 'Automatic keylock' option
2. Enable 'Screen saver' option
3. Setup all timeouts...
Now you can unlock your phone by left softkey or home button
That's some great software and I installed it on my phoen in a heartbeat. But how did you get it to unlock using the Home key or ANY other key ? There's nothing like that in the app's settings or in their forums...
I see how it works now. You don't use the phone's keylock routine... you let the screensaver come on and then it's unlockable by using the left softkey (or any key you want) or the home key. There's a problem with that though... It only requires ONE keypress. It would be way too easy for it unlock in my pocket that way. We really need a combination of two keys, that can be customized.

[Q] Physical key remap - is this even possible?

Is it possible to remap the search button so that it hangs-up while you are in a call? I find it extremely frustrating, especially when driving, to have to look at my phone to press the vurtual "hang-up" button on the screen - oh how I miss my Touch HD
I have read about physical key remap here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683902&highlight=remap but there is no indication that what I am looking for is possible.
What would it take to make such a hack? Would it be possible with an app or does it take a custom ROM to do the trick? Does the phone need to be rooted?
Thanx all!
very interested too
Does anyone have an answer on this? Do you think it is impossible?

wow i guess i have to look further but i am looking for the same thing for the mytouch4g. if anyone has a fix please pm me! thanks!
With CM you can end or answer calls pressing the trackball, so its possible to remap keys. It's really usefull sometimes when you call anyone by mistake and display turns off while trying to hang up
there is a app in the market called key mapper or something similar that does this and for 64p its not bad.
also you edit the rom de-compile it edit etc = hard work lol
you can definetly remap keys but you need to be rooted otherwise you cannot.
i would like to answer using a hard key.
has any solution been found?
I just found this: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/remap-reassign-your-android-devices-keys-with-buttonremapper/
Will try it out and let you know
Thanks. It works

specify an app after long pressed on home button

I think it`s very useful to show other stuff instead of recent apps only. I can adjust brightness and sound volumn on an ipad. any suggested apps for customizing the home key behaviour?
Install a decent launcher like LauncherPro then you can have it open whatever you want.
Not long-press, it's a core OS function.
@theOP: you may not be able to change the function of a long-press like iOS but, unlike iOS, you can change the function of a short-press, so it kinda evens out.
google should have open it to other apps for replacing or adding new stuff, just like the home screen....
Hi,
I dont like opening older posts, but better than post another new one...
So I undestood, that a home long-press is not possible to redirect as another button (e.g. Search) or to execute some bash scripts?
I am still looking for some task switcher on hw button dependend and with posibility to call it from everywhere (all tas managers using search button, which is not present on X10i). Currently I am using PreHome with home doubleclick, but it is not so good as long press could be...
Or - one question - is it possible to redirect long press on Back button? I Know, that on Camera is this possible...

I think what XperienceD want to say, he like the idea of opening old threads instead of opening new threads...If everyone did that we would not have 500 thousand "my battery is at 0%" threads.
Hi I`d like to reopen this topis
Tomorow I found, that Cyanogenmod ROM`s are able to do this natively!
Anyone using any of these ROM?
I am trying to find out what is this button menu related to migrate this function

Out of the box, no. But I think I could add it to my Xposed module. I'll look into it tonight.
That would be awesome. Please let me know.

I just updated my module (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54270469) to include a feature like this.
Thanks a lot. That was super quick.
Can you please let me know the location to place key_bindings.xml once created? Also, would this also work even if I am in XBMC and not Fire TV launcher.
Thanks again for your help with this.

It's a modification to the input layer of Android, so it will work in any app with any launcher.
Thanks. Is it possible to long press home button to open an app? If so what is the key code for long press home button on fire TV remote?

Long press home is set up to launch the Recents dialog. I guess I could modify it to allow you to override it. I'll put out a 1.2 a little later.
Thanks for your support man. This would make life so much easier for me as long press home button is ideal candidate to launch a defined app.

OK. I just uploaded 1.2 that allows you to set long press events on keys.
Thanks Man. If you don't think I am bugging you too much can you please post an example for long press home button key mapping.

I did... The example xml includes a long press and the description after it includes the keycode string for long press home.
You are awesome. I got it working. This is awesome. Thanks a lot. I just wish that the time of long press was a little longer but now I am being picky. Anyways, I really appreciate your help and wouldn't mind buying you a beer if you take donations.

Android controls the long press time. I just get a flag saying it was long of short. I used to have a donation link on some of my old stuff. If you want it... https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webs...=PP-DonationsBF:btn_donateCC_LG.gif:NonHosted
Sent donation on your way. Enjoy the beer on me.
