[Q] Sense 6 camera on GPE rom? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way get the sense 6 camera app onto the gpe Rom. If so . How do I do it

You can get the apk on there but it needs sense to work

independent app
Is it at all possible to make that camera app as an independent (from Sense 6) app ? Or am I dreaming ?

Dreaming. It relies on the sense 6 framework which isn't included in GPE models. (AFIK)

?!

I understand that part, where it relies on Sense 6, but how big is that dependence and how impossible is it to make that app work by it's own, like any other (sideloadable ) app ?
I mean I am not gonna handle this "issue" myself, but I do wanna have a clue how it works and how come it's that hard to do or maybe completely impossible ?!
This app is the only reason me and a lot other will not want to flash GPD on M8, cuz the camera is "bad" enough already to risk it, make it even worse ) Otherwise HTC did a great job adding a lot of hardware support for M* in GPE rom.
Thanks

I was just thinking of that exact thread; as I remember when the dev posted it, and have linked to it several times in the past myself.
Technically its "possible" as almost anything is. But whether its "feasible" or not is a completely different issue. Basically no dev is going to put that kind of effort and time into something with not that much payoff; when you can just flash a Sense ROM.

ICS Video camera

Quick question - now that the photo camera on ICS for Desire Z is mostly working, would it be hard to get it to make movies?
I have no idea how hard this is to do. Just asking
You'd have to write the code.

I am not a developer, but I am certain that, yes, this is a very hard thing to do and I really haven't read anything about progress in this regard, since zbuw came up with the initial workaround to get the camera partially working.
The main problem still seems to be that, so much code has changed in ICS that we basically need new drivers from htc or qualcomm in order to get it fully working. I expect that we won't see full camera functionality until a leak comes up from which we can extract the drivers (I don't know enough about the similarities of other devices, hardware-wise, to guess on how likely this is.

That's normally fair game but you're replying to someone who can't even post in the dev section yet, don't make him download backup wipe flash discover it isn't working then restore.. no, to the best of my knowledge (having just tested it and seen it reported elsewhere) recording does not work at this time (unless some wild development has happened in the past couple days).

thanks. I will give that a shot. I kinda need video recording working from time to time, so it will be painful running ROM without it ... is that true that none of ICS ROMs have the video camera working (just pic taking)?
From everything I have read either here or CM, what I believe they are waiting on is drivers from either HTC or Qualcom to further develop the camera. I believe they have it working somewhat. I am NOT a dev by any stretch just passing along what I have read.
Hope this helps

Yes this is true, and even picture taking is iffy at best (you have to install third party app and most people can only take non-buggy pictures at VGA (really low) quality)
If you need video recording AT ALL do not use ICS yet.
thanks guys, those statements change the ground. in fact I will wait a little longer until those drivers get released and developers can fix camera issues.
I use camera for pics often and videos occasionally, so I wouldn't like a phone like that at all.
also, what does it mean that GPS is "kinda" working now (Andromadus v10), it's broken or not?
I use Google Navigation frequently whenever I get lost or traveling to current closest (unknown) chain store location and such ... and I kinda rely on that ... I guess I need to wait for a beta ROM, alphas are not for me yet.

[Q] Any way to use stock camera on CM7 or CM9 ?

I know the chances of what I'm asking are really slim, but just wanted to confirm whether it is possible or not.
Ok,I'm considering the possibility that it isn't possible, then is there any 3rd party app which is as good as the stock one ?
Tried camera360,MiuiCamera,lgcamera but nothing can be compared to the stock camera app at least in focusing capability, and that's what I need most from the app.
If you know a better app, then please suggest.
Thank you.
You can't use any stock HTC Sense software on a non-HTC sense ROM.

[Q] Recent App to Running app

hi, Im a Verizon Galaxynexus owner, I have CM10 nightly. I have some question about the Recent App in Jellybean.
I want it tow show Only the Running apps, not the "Recents" apps. there is any mod for that?? or any way to make it??
I have suscefully Mod by myself the SystemUI.apk and Framework.apk.
also, I want to know if there is some way to make the "previews" for the recentApp to be "Realtime" instead of simple images. Just like this mod for IOS
youtube.com/ watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Zzdi1lO7V_w
and Last, I want to know if there is some way to make the RecentApp panel like the video in minute 1.47
thanks.
No, no and no... haven't seen any of those kind of mods. The only thing i've seen was being able to change the recent app panel to look like the htc sense one in a rom, forgot which one though.
I think

And what are you basing that possibility on? If you don't have any factual basis you shouldn't make such claims.

Converting to GPe. Firewater fail

Hi guys. I'm convert ing my AT&T M8 to GPe since I'm used to using my nexus tablet so much. This is my first shot at custom ROMs with android but I used to be big into the homebrew scene in the good old PSP days, so I'm not a stranger to modifying devices past their potential lol.
I've flashed my custom recovery and have installed supersu to the device, however.0, after running firewater, it fails and says firewater can't work with the device. It stops after "chugging first bottle"
I even installed Insertcoin rom because it says to do it with a rom with an insecure kernel for better results and it still fails.
- on a side note, while I have insertcoin installed in the meantime, does anyone know why after I flashed the rom my boot time is a few minutes long now? Seems strange to me.
Anyways, any help/comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

HTC patched the exploit Firewater used, doesn't work anymore. Can try Sunshine S-OFF
[Android][HTC S-OFF] SunShine for modern HTC devices
It's $25 , though it works and even in the event that it "might" not work. Your device gets tested to make sure it'll work before you have to pay the money, so if it passes you can pay, if it won't succeed you won't need to pay $25 for something that won't work...
Ah fiddlesticks! No way around that, huh? Well I guess I can learn to live with Sense. Does anybody recommend any other roms that don't need s-off other than the Insertcoin one I'm running now? I can learn to live with it but it does take roughly 5 minutes to boot, which is kind of a pain. Just wondering. Thanks.

the long boot time is due to out of date firmware look in the development section on updating firmware with S-On

No problem Keep me posted on what you like or dislike. I've been running SkyDragon since I got my HTC and would like to try that since I am itching to flash something.
Don't forget to check out Gravity Box for KK on he Xposed modules.

definitely will check it out once I get into the rom a bit.
One more quick, possibly stupid question (I'm sorry to be a pain). Granted, I understand that the sense overlay is meant to run the sense based software and was never designed for crossover development, but is there any way to bring over the duo camera software to the GPe rom? If not, it's no big deal. I was just curious. It's honestly the only thing I'd miss. The standard google cam software is alright, but I know the camera is meant to do certain things. Just wondering.

In not entirely certain about this but apparently since GPE was built specific for this device the GPE camera app supports the hardware of the camera including the duo. The difference is the camera effects which can be done post picture with the HTC software available from the play store

[Q] HTC Camera on Nexus

Is there any chance to install the new version of the HTC camera seen on the HTC One M8 with Sense 6.0 on Android Stock devices like the Nexus 5? Is there maybe a .apk floating around in the forums I didn't find?
Cheers

But there are a lot of feature that are working without the dualcamera, so it would be great to use those

Even regardless of the dual camera, the short answer is NO, not going to happen.
First off, the camera is dependent on Sense framework, so just installing the APK is not going to make it work.
Further, the effort to post the camera along with the necessary Sense framework while technically "possible" would be extremely tedious and laborious. So "possible" to port it, technically yes. Feasible? No.
